CVRep honors Bob Mackie

Hugh Glenn, Phyllis Eisenberg, Holly Merrigan, Tracey Essex and Ron Celona Photo by Pat Krause By Pat Krause CVRep, Coachella Valley Repertory, held a luminary luncheon for Bob Mackie. Mackie is a world renown designer and stylist best know as the designer to the rich and famous. His clothes have been worn by many movie stars and famous people. CVRep holds several luminary luncheons during the year. This tradition has been held for many years and is a big fundraiser for the Theatre. President Mike Monachino annouced there would be new and exciting plays, a musical and more entertainment in the coming year.

The event was held at the Ritz-Carlton, Rancho Mirage and broke records in attendance with over 320 attending. Vaccinations were required and the new mask mandate was in effect. That did not deter the guests from enjoying themsleves and supporting the event. The luncheon gave people a chance to see old friends after a couple years of Covid and shutdowns. The event started with a cocktail reception in the large area by the dining roon. Speakers started by thanking everyone for coming and supporting the great work CVRep does for the

Another round of huge clapping was when they lauded Phyllis Eisenberg for her never ending involvement. She donated an elegant pen for each guest. Others mentioned who were a big part in the continued growth of CVRep, Joyce Bulifant and Michael Childers and many others. Ron Celona was the next speaker who announced his retirement. He told about

the beginning of CVRep and how it grew with the help of the many donors that made the new theatre a reality. His dream became true and now its more than a theatre but a teaching facility and new entertainment venue. Celona will be missed but his dream will continue. Staff and volunteers were also thanked and acknowledged. Honoree Bob Mackie came to the stage later in the luncheon. A video was shown with Cher and Carol Burnett and others who wore his gowns. Several women wore Mackie creations to the event. Mackie was interviewed and spoke about his new

book. Michael Childers will be honored at the next Luminary Luncheon on February 17th, so mark your calendars. New plays are always in the works. Safety is always a concern for its patrons. Big tech and Artificial Intelligence will change our lives dramatically By Janice Gough The speed of progress and how people adopt new technologies get faster over time. In other words, technology progresses “exponentially.” That is because technology builds off each innovation that came before it. You’ve probably heard of Moore’s Law. It’s an observation made in the 1960s by Silicon Valley pioneer and Intel founder Gordon Moore. Moore said the number of transistors we could fit on a microchip would double every two years, which would rapidly boost computer power. Few

people believed Moore, but he was exactly right. These days, it’s a regular occurrence. Even the speed at which these companies make money is accelerating… It took Netflix a decade to make its first billion dollars… In its most recent billion… just 31 days. Apple’s latest billion took less than two days. It is taking less and less time to generate incredible wealth. Never before have companies built such incredible wealth in such short time frames. Many companies can achieve substantial gains in less than five years. The old way of investing would take companies 20 years or longer. There are too many incredible opportunities to wait a decade or more to see tremendous gains with technological progress picking up. Those who understand and embrace these changes make more money faster than ever before. Think about the companies that have achieved greatness in the last few years: Google… Facebook… Netflix… Amazon… Microsoft… Bookings… DocuSign… Trade Desk. These are companies

are businesses that don’t create any physical products! That’s the secret! The world’s best companies – and the businesses that are exploding in value in the NEW economy, typically don’t create anything you can touch or hold! If you look at the biggest stock market winners of the past 20 years, you see that most of them have one thing in common…They don’t make anything. A company with hyper-scale potential can go from tiny to $10 billion in the blink of an eye. Visionaries look at ways to simplify and simplify things and solutions the public will invest in. This can bring investors to a once-in-a-decade investment opportunity. Artificial Intelligence is a worldchanging event and represents a paradigm shift in society. Sadly, most people don’t think about AI until they get an AI call from someone wanting donations or selling something. Not recognizing the potential uses of Artificial intelligence may be the single most expensive mistake on the planet right now. It is a once-in-a-decade investment opportunity.

Tesla batteries created storage back- up for energy, but when Elon Musk and his team added AI, it became a much more valuable tool for using power efficiently. It merely switches you off the Grid at peak cost points and uses the energy stored by your battery. You can recoup the $12K battery cost in a year of saving energy costs. Thanks to exponential progress, our hardware and software are becoming so powerful that computers can now analyze complex patterns… cross-reference data… and perform hypercomplex calculations at near-instant speeds. The implications are incredible… and economically, they run into the trillions of dollars. AI can detect cancer faster and with better accuracy than a doctor can…It can create lifesaving new drugs quicker and cheaper than humans can too…It can review and find mistakes in legal contracts faster and better accuracy than lawyers. It can streamline and lower the costs of manufacturing. And that is what most people don’t get. AI is not about robots taking over…

Improperly Posted Agendas

By Kelly G. Richardson, Esq. CCAL Kelly: Before our monthly board meetings, agendas are provided to each owner the week before the meeting. Occasionally the board schedules a special open meeting. We know that agenda notification for a special open meeting must be provided to the community 4 days prior to the meeting. What is “four days” does it need to be posted four full 24-hour days? Does the agenda have to be delivered to each owner or is posting on a bulletin board sufficient? Thank you, E.K., Oceanside

than 96 hours before a meeting, so long as it is four calendar days before the day of the meeting. Board meetings are not required to be individually announced to each member. Per Civil Code Section 4920(c), the announcement is by “general delivery.” General delivery per Civil Code Section 4045 includes (among other methods) posting the announcement in the location announced by the HOA for notices. Starting in 2022, that location may include the HOA’s web site. Thanks for your question, Kelly

Dear E.K.: Civil Code Sections 4920(a)(d) and 4930(a) require that agendas be posted 4 days prior to the board meeting and prohibit board discussions on items not disclosed (with some exceptions based on urgency). However, the statute does not say that 4 days means 96 hours. So, absent further guidance from the legislature or courts, a notice could be posted less

Dear Mr. Richardson: What, if any, significance is there when a board fails to comply with a requirement such as posting an agenda four days prior to a board meeting? Is the only recourse to elect a new board and hope they’ll do a better job? B.H., Alhambra Dear B.H.: A board not posting agendas cannot do anything in the meeting except

deal with emergencies and hold open forum. Civil Code Section 4930(a) is quite clear: “…the board may not discuss or take action on any item… unless the item was placed on the agenda…” A failure to comply with the requirement could open the board to an argument that all of its actions are not proper corporate actions and could be set aside. However, suing is almost always a bad idea because it doesn’t change the board’s refusal to learn how to do things properly. Remember this the next time there is a call for nominations for the board. Best regards, Kelly Dear Kelly: I’ve asked our HOA to add a short description (1-2 sentences) for each agenda item on the regular monthly agenda. The response has been, “there is ample time to ask questions when the item comes up for discussion/action”. I want to know ahead of the meeting if there is a topic/agenda item I’m interested in so I can decide if I want to watch (zoom) or

It’s about powerful software running on potent computers. Over the next ten years, AI will be the ultimate tool…the ultimate advantage. Billionaire Mark Cuban said that the world’s first trillionaire would be the one who wins the AI race. By those who got there FIRST. “Getting there first is my most powerful asset.”, which is the same investment rule. Well, what they’re doing will radically change one of the most critical industries in America, and in the process, change the lives of me, you and just about everyone else in America in the coming years. If you’ve ever sold a home before, then you know that it’s probably the worst process in the world. It takes forever, as long as three months, to close a sale. Not only that, but it costs an arm and a leg to sell a home! Agent fees, staging costs, closing costs, repairs, and more often take out more than 10% of the home’s sales price. I would venture to say that selling a home is the single most inefficient retail process in the world today. Buying and selling a home is one of the only Continues on Page 4

attend the meeting. How can homeowners get this type of information on the agenda? Thank you, L.O., Nipomo Dear L.O.: The “agenda posting” requirement is designed to help homeowners decide if they wish to attend a given board meeting. Therefore, the posted agenda should contain enough information to disclose the topic of discussion. That might include a few words, such as “review landscaping performance” or “consider painting bids.” It’s not only required by law, but is also a good idea to build community trust in the board. HOROSCOPES ARIES

It’s important to maintain moment to moment awareness of all experiences each day and of all who come into your sphere of life. If aware you will see their gifts (talents and abilities) and they will reflect your talents, too This is a great revelation. Allow yourself no expectations. Remain poised in observation to all that is around you. In this silence, new values, new perspectives and the new realities you’ve been searching for appear.

TAURUS Know that plans will change; feelings and emotions too. Memories will be part of the holidays this year and you have many. You will sense and feel those who are no longer with us. Know they still love you, always remaining close by. You will have new revelations about your work in the world. Perhaps a book, a painting, a work of creativity, a poem. Follow the signs, intuitions and impressions. A whole new world of art and creativity appears!

GEMINI We all miss traveling. Travel offers prospects and plans that change the course of one’s life, advancing us into the future. This is especially important for Geminis. When retrogrades occur our focus turns inward and memory becomes available. Thoughts, ideas and plans become practical. Seek new ways to communicate.

Open your heart to loved ones with new understanding. Offer forgiveness if needed. You will never be the same after. That is your Christmas gift to the world this year.

CANCER New insights come forth about the people in your life, especially old friends and groups you have belonged to. Before you had global ideas. But now you have a deeper more personal understanding about how others live their lives. Communicate your insights to those who care for you. Become interested in what others think and say. Ask for their insights. This creates deeper connections. And then love is released. You are surprised. Love happens.

LEO Tend to your health with great care. If a doctor is needed, it’s best to seek a naturopath and/or a Functional doctor (MD) in your area or close by. Naturopaths and functional doctors diagnose, test and look at health differently. It’s important to have a new approach to all things now, especially health and well-being. From health to work to animals to plants to co-workers. The holiday season offers illuminations and revelations. Listen in silence, create moments of solitude. Information comes on little cat’s feet.

VIRGO

Notice your creative expressions expanding, increasing exponentially. Happiness, enthusiasm and playfulness come forth and you recognize these are natural gifts within each of us. And then something spontaneous occurs and you understand your life experiences from birth to the present and into the future. Then you understand everyone else’s, too. And everything transforms daily in front of your eyes. And then there is joy. And it’s in plain sight.

LIBRA The past returns for review. Nothing can stop this. Gradually a new perspective appears concerning childhood, home, parents, siblings, family interactions. Childhood impressions change like a kaleidoscope of colors. With revelations your understanding increases and you enter unexpectedly into a state of compassion. To anchor this surprising shift, you reorder everything in your life, work and home. And a state of wonder follows you everywhere. You then forever choose wonder.

shopping processes in the world that has yet to be digitized, and by extension, streamlined and made hyper-efficient…until now! One small, emerging tech company is pioneering a breakthrough e-commerce platform across the U.S. real estate market. In so doing, it will finally leapfrog the $1.6 TRILLION real estate industry into the digital era and eventually turn into the “Amazon of houses. ”The company is an e-commerce platform where consumers can buy, sell and view homes online. By streamlining and digitizing the home selling process, It Accelerates the home selling timeline by leveraging big data and algorithms, in which they can accurately price a home in minutes, and sellers can close a home sale in as little as three days. cutting costs– By eliminating profit-takers in the supply chain, you reduce all-in home selling costs from over 10% to just 6%, comprised of a 5% service charge and 1% to 3% closing costs. By simplifying and streamlining the real estate supply chain, It turns to sell a home into a super-easy, one-to-one process between the seller and the company. This opportunity here is unmistakable. Their digital platform for buying and selling homes offers a significantly superior shopping experience. The company already operates in 21 markets, and has served over 80,000 homeowners, sold $10 billion worth of homes, and grew the number of homes sold through its platform by over 500% from 2017 to 2019. Thanks to a powerful force called the “network effect.” If you’ve never heard of the network effect, it works like this…In 1994, Jeff Bezos

developed the best and most efficient way to buy things online, Amazon.com. His service was far better than other e-commerce sites. As a result, lots of people wanted to buy stuff on Amazon. The more people used Amazon; the more sellers wanted to ensure their products were listed on Amazon…The more sellers wanted to be listed, the more buyers it attracted… and so on. That is the incredible power of the network effect… Each new user vastly increases the value of the business! Amazon created a virtuous, selfreinforcing cycle that exploited the network effect to the tune of starting a company worth more than $1 TRILLION. The network effect is also the secret behind the hypergrowth we saw with Google, Facebook, and Netflix. From now on, Companies need to harness the power of the network effect, as well. The more home sellers a December 22, 2021

company has, the more buyers the platform will attract. There is massive potential here. In the next decade, cars that drive themselves will be just as much a part of our everyday lives as smartphones are now. Big data is the oil of the 21st century. In this new era, companies and people become more innovative and more efficient with the help of data. AI and algorithms will revolutionize the way you use and interact with your smartphone… A company with a new breed of software that is going to radically enhance productivity and profitability at America’s most giant corporations by orders of magnitude… similar to how Microsoft Office and Excel saved businesses copious amounts of time and money by allowing them to automate calculations and financial analysis—only this new software takes things to a whole other

level. And, this is still just the tip of the iceberg, but they all have these things in common: 1. They are revolutionizing the way we use technology… 2. They are hyper-scalable… 3. And best of all, they’re off the radar of just about every mainstream investor on the planet right now, so there’s plenty of room for growth. Technology is changing our world in profound ways, and one well-timed move right now could pay off big over the next few years. That opening track is no fluke; subsequent originals spanning from the luxuriant “Buggin’ Out” and Baroque sortie “What’s With Your Heavy Heart? to the gorgeous “Desert Ships” and sweetsounding “The Unbroken” are spectacular. While an initial listen will impress with the instantlyinviting melodious soundscape, closer and repeated listens cast a well-deserved spotlight on Frater’s smart lyrics and sharp arrangements that further define the 10-song LP. Information: BigStirRecords.com. Artist: Hasaan Ibn Ali Title: Retrospect in Retirement of Delay: The Solo Recordings (Omnivore Recordings) You might like if you enjoy: John Coltrane, McCoy Tyner, Elmo Hope Tell me more: This year has seen a slew of lost and previously-unreleased

recordings from the likes of The Beatles, Colin Blunstone, Michael Nesmith, and Steve Goodman released. Add “Retrospect in Retirement of Delay: The Solo Recordings” to that notable list featuring jazz pianist-composer Hasaan Ibn Ali. The special two-disc, 21-track release is a dream come true for jazz lovers. The groundbreaking Philadelphia artist is primarily known for “The Max Roach Trio Featuring the Legendary Hasaan,” released via Atlantic Records in 1965; sadly, it was the only commercial recording featuring Ali’s playing released during his short lifetime. Fortunately, 2021 has seen Ali — who passed away in 1980 — reintroduced to a wider audience via “Metaphysics: The Lost Atlantic Album” (released March 5, 2021) and equally compelling “Retrospect in Retirement of Delay: The Solo Recordings” (issued on November 19, 2021). The story of how “Retrospect in Retirement of Delay: The Solo Recordings” came to be is a tale 55 years in the making. Produced by the team of Alan Sukoenig, Lewis Porter and Grammy winner Cheryl Pawelski, the collection features mastering by Grammy winner Michael Graves and a wonderful booklet with essays and previously-unseen photos that shed more light on this important release. Ali’s piano playing is breathtaking across the two discs (he is heard on a mix of originals and standards). “Retrospect in Retirement of Delay: The Solo Recordings” is currently available on audio CD and Digital; the title is set for release via a four-LP vinyl version in 2022. If the Trustee is unable to convey title for any reason, the successful bidder’s sole and exclusive remedy shall be the return of monies paid to the Trustee and the successful bidder shall have no further recourse.
