Black-owned businesses celebrate culture with scavenger hunt By Jackie Devereaux Desert Hot Springs, CA - One local charity celebrated black culture in a special way for Black History Month. Team Mom Charities hosted a scavenger hunt for school children to celebrate Black History Month at local and

black-owned businesses mostly in Desert Hot Springs on Monday, Feb. 22. According to Margaret Webb, founder and president of Team Mom Charities, “the purpose of the event was to celebrate black history while supporting small business

owners in the community, and to give parents a chance to take their school children on a much-needed field trip.” “The scavenger hunt was a fun and educational event about our black history,” Webb said. Prizes were given out to the top five winners and

announced on Jammin 99.5 FM radio. The top prize was $500 with others receiving $10 to $50 gift certificates redeemable at participating local businesses. “We’re really excited that the Desert Hot Springs library joined the scavenger hunt,” Webb said, along with businesses like Habitat for Humanity, Costco and Bona Fide Realty. “I think this brings

people together and gives a message to our youth that we have unity, diversity, and give them a sense that there are people willing to reach out and invest in the community,” said Andrew Washington owner of Bona Fide Realty. “Many businesses in our city are struggling due to the Continues on Page 2
