Extreme Sports in CA By Desert Star Staff California is worldfamous for producing wine, movies, television shows, and endless orchards of fruits and vegetables. With an amazing collection of extreme sports activities to choose from, it’s also top of the mountain when it comes to fueling adrenaline and goose bumps. So, if diving with great white sharks, hurtling down a crazy-steep mountain-bike trail, or shooting some Class V rapids is your idea of a good time, then

California has you covered. The Golden State’s breathtaking natural environment, from snowcapped mountain peaks to wave-swept coastline, has made it a go-to destination for action sports enthusiasts for decades. And many of those sports, such as surfing, mountain biking and rock climbing, were also developed or taken to new heights here by legendary figures. So, when it comes to heart-pumping thrills, eXtreme marks the spot

right in here in California. • Surfing: California’s signature adrenaline sport, it’s been part of the state’s DNA since a trio of Hawaiian princes first rode some redwood boards off the coast of Santa Cruz in 1885. California took surfing mainstream, leading the way with everything from board innovations to apparel lines and legendary contests. And surfing royalty still gather here for the fabled breaks and pro competitions, including the Mavericks big-wave

Story and Photos by Pat Krause The Palm Springs Walk of Stars held another Star Dedication on Feb. 22nd at 2 pm at 155 South Palm Canyon Drive. The dedication was part of Modernism Week and the iconic photo, Poolside Gossip. Nelda Linsk was the lady in Yellow in the picture that was on display during the Dedication Ceremony. Mayor Robert Moon spoke and noted that Feb. 22nd would always be Nelda Linsk Day and provided her with a Palm Springs Plaque about the dedication. The next speaker was a

friend and colleague, Gary John. John spoke about how he found out that Linsk was the lady in yellow from friends. He said he was introduced to all the famous people that Linsk knew and partied with them in their homes. He told of the fantastic life that Linsk has had over the years from being on TV in children show to an impressive modeling career and her years in Real Estate. Linsk has lived in Palm Springs for 50 years and has made a massive impression with all the work she has done for charities. Her friendship with Frank

and Barbara Sinatra and the building of the Barbara Sinatra Children’s Center is legendary. The next speaker was Robert Marx, Barbara Sinatra’s son. He thanked Linsk for being a friend to his mother for many years and for being at her bedside every day before she passed away making her laugh and smile with stories. President Robert Alexander introduced all the prior Walk of Stars honorees and noted that this star had the most honorees at any star. Fans lined the street,

meet in Half Moon Bay. • Kiteboarding and Windsurfing: We’re not just shooting the breeze when we say California has some killer spots for harnessing the power of the wind. From the San Francisco Bay and Sherman

Island in the Sacramento Delta to Pismo Beach and Jalama Beach County Park on the Central Coast, kiteboarders and windsurfers will be blown away. Continues on Page 14
