McBride as awardees at the 37th annual Kennedy Center Honors, held Dec. 7. President Obama and first lady Michelle Obama was on hand at the Washington DC gala as Tomlin and the other honorees were celebrated for influencing American culture through the arts. Tomlin’s numerous other accolades include a Mark Twain Prize for American Humor, a Grammy, two Tony awards and six Emmys. A ground-breaking comic, Tomlin’s career spans TV, film, theater and animation. She first came to national prominence on NBC’s top-rated “Laugh-in” show, where she portrayed such
characters as Ernestine, the cranky telephone operator, and Edith Ann, an amusing 6-year-old in a giant rocking chair. From there, she branched out into comedy specials, acting (with memorable roles in such films as “Nashville,” “All of Me” and “9 to 5,” and TV shows, including “The West Wing,” “Murphy Brown” and “Damages”) and a tour de force stage performance in “The Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe.” Tickets for her Morongo appearance go on sale Friday, Jan. 9, for $49 and $59 via Ticketmaster and the Morongo box office.
