Germany Wins World Cup Germany’s players lifts the World Cup trophy as they celebrate their 2014 World Cup final win against Argentina By Desert Star Staff Germany has claimed a fourth World Cup crown in a 1-0 win against Argentina after extra time in the final in Rio de Janeiro. Substitute Mario Goetze was the hero, as he scored the only goal with seven minutes to go. With that triumph Germany has become the first European nation to win the trophy in South
America, which led to jubilant scenes both on the pitch and back home, with millions of fans celebrating their feat. However, Joachim Low’s side had to do it the hard way, as they got off to a very slow start. Argentina was by far the better side during the first half, but Gonzalo Higuain and Lionel Messi missed two scoring
opportunities. Higuain had also had a goal rightly disallowed for offside. Argentina was left to rue its wastefulness in front of goal as the match wore on and Germany began to dominate. Neither side was able to score in normal time, which sent the game into 30 minutes of extra time. Argentina had its third excellent opportunity of

Bows And Wows At Pets On Parade 6Th Annual Awards
By Pamela Price More than 500 guests with nearly 90 pet dogs attended the Pets on Parade 16th Annual Awards held in the Grand Ballroom at Desert Princess Resort in Cathedral City on Sunday, July 13. The event’s honoree Lindi Bigi was the recipient of the Circle of Life Award presented by Sheryl Benoit. Lindi is a legend, with a “33-year advocate of chipping animal companions while continually holding no-cost spay, neuter and chips events”. These good deeds head up other accomplishments
supporting her dream, “a no-kill Coachella Valley.” Thanks to her dedication, an Adoption lino goes out every other week to shelters with people looking for pets. Lori Sarner, the event’s creator and founder of Pegasus Therapeutic was joined by the Humane Society in planning the afternoon event which was a resounding success, with enthusiastic barks punctuating the conversation. Mrs. Sarner was joined by Event Chairs Robin Montgomery, Pamela Moffitt Green and Malinda Bustos. Major donors included
James R. Houston, CV Studio Entertainment, Eileen T. Riley and Penny Carpenter, Bonnie and Kurt Campbell and Northern Trust. Overseeing over 125 items in the Silent auction was Kathy Hart of Bones ‘n’ Scones, Palm Springs and Palm Desert, Albeth Paris Grass served as Auction Chair.
