911 System Restored By Carlos Herrera COACHELLA VALLEY - The 911-phone system is up and running again after the entire, Coachella Valley was without service today. The Frontier Communications 911 telephone system was down for about three hours, leaving residents of the Coachella Valley unable to reach first responders via the three-digit emergency number. The system went down at 5p.m. While the phone system was off-line, emergency dispatchers in all valley law
enforcement agencies continued fielding calls through a ten-digit telephone number. Officials with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department said the issue appeared to be with Frontier Communications, the phone provider through which the 9-1-1 centers are connected. Frontier officials were able to resolve the problem by 8 p.m. However, they are not sure what exactly caused the system to crash. Meanwhile, law enforcement officials say they are well-
By Desert Star Staff Iceland produced a stunning result against England in the 2016 UEFA European Championship, winning 2-1 in their last-16 clash in Nice and setting up a quarter-final against the host-nation France. Playing in their first major tournament finals, the Icelanders shocked England by coming from behind to claim a historic win. Iceland’s population is around 330,000 – compared to over 53 million for England – but they defied their status as minnows to claim the most momentous victory in their history. England took an early lead on four minutes through
a Wayne Rooney penalty after Raheem Sterling was brought down in the box. Iceland, however, evened the score less than 60 seconds later when Ragnar Sigurdsson – who plays club football for Russian side FC Krasnodar – swept in at the back post following a flick-on from a long pass. They then sensationally took the lead on 18 minutes when Kolbeinn Sigthorsson found space on the edge of the box and got a shot away, which England goalkeeper Joe Hart could only parry weakly into his own net. England had plenty of
prepared for these instances. “We have emergency back-up number for these situations, people have to dial a tendigit number, but his is readily available for this purpose and set up for the public,” spokesperson for the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Armando Munoz said. No reports of any issues reaching first responders during the outage at this time. KMIR News reached out to Frontier Communications regarding the outage, we have
yet to receive a response. Police say the best way you can prepare for these situations is to save the tendigit dispatch number of your local law enforcement agency.
