United Way VIP Gala

Story and Photos by Pat Krause The 27th Annual VIP gala, Paris En Rouge, was held on May 12th at the Ritz-Carlton in Rancho Mirage. This is the fourth year the Ritz-Carlton Hotel has hosted the event. There was a special cocktail hour with a “Rouge Cocktail” for the guests. This gala is growing each year for the
United Way of the Desert. They raised over $150,000 last year and hope to increase even more this year. The event was underwritten by local Philanthropist and owner of Spencers Restaurant, Harold Matzner. The Gala is proud that all monies raised stay in the Desert. The event honored
By Desert Star Staff Donald Trump said he wanted to discuss “facts” with Russia, ranging from airline safety to terrorism, during last week’s White House meeting. A Washington Post story has accused him of revealing classified information to Russian officials. In a tweet, Trump said he had an “absolute right” to discuss these matters with Russia, noting that the conversation was held at an “openly scheduled” White House meeting. The “facts” discussed included terrorism and airline flight safety, according to Trump, who noted that he wants Russia to “greatly step up their fight” against Islamic
State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL). Trump sent out the tweets after a Washington Post story accused him of revealing highly classified information to Russian officials during last week’s Oval Office meeting. “We had a very, very successful meeting with the foreign minister of Russia,” Trump said on Tuesday, answering a question at a White House event with Turkish President Recep Erdogan. “We want to get as many to help fight terrorism as possible. And that’s one of the beautiful things that happening with Turkey.” The claims in the Washington Post have

fresh approach for this gala. There was a delicious French Inspired Dinner with fine wines. The cocktail reception heard the fabulous band, The Sensation Showband, entertain. Several guests enjoyed dancing to the music prior to the dinner. The Sensation Showband with its great singers also
entertained for dancing after dinner. There was a large live auction during the cocktail hour and an active auction just before dessert was served. There were nine dynamic auction items to help raise money for this worthy cause. A gala of this size takes a Continues on Page 12
