Agua Caliente’s Sunstone Spa brings a Glow of Good Health By Pamela Price There’s a touch of heaven on the spa menu at the Sunstone Spa, discreetly tucked away in its own spacious hideaway at the Agua Caliente Resort Casino Hotel in Rancho Mirage. As you enter the serene ambiance of one of America’s most highly ranked spas ( according to Forbes), the uninterrupted chorus of casino noise suddenly recedes. Instead, gently cool, calm spa-inspired music welcomes guests and in the air are mesmerizing fragrances of herbal remedies with the
promise of peaceful relaxation. In short, the prize you will win here is a rewarding few hours of radiant health and welcome respite. “You can’t put a price on this,” reminds spa-goer Laurie Weitz. “Taking time out for yourself at Sunstone is not a gamble; it is a win-win situation.” Daniel Spencer, Sunstone’s progressive director, has curated a spa menu reflecting the latest in therapeutic spa treatments such as their Sunstone Signature heated gemstone massage “using our own custom carved Sunstones
known for improving mental clarity warming the heart giving strength,” he explained. According to the spa menu, this 90-minute treatment is combined with gemstone-infused essential oils of rose, sandalwood and vetiver, which is restorative to the skin.” I experienced the Halo treatment, which had nothing to do with becoming angelic, but it did deliver a few unexpected health benefits. Maifest Contests, Dancers, and Free Rides
By Desert Star Staff BIG BEAR LAKE, Calif. –The Annual Big Bear Lake Maifest is known as Big Bear Lake Oktoberfest’s little sister. It’s a scaled-down version of Oktoberfest but provides the same ambiance of cheerful revelries. The annual Oktoberfest spinoff event kicks off May 21 and returns the following week for Memorial Day weekend, Saturday, May 28 and Sunday, May 29, for more festive good times. In addition to the new debut contest, revelers will be glad to know that the entertainment lineup gets a boost, too. Maifest organizers are proud to announce the Die Gemütlichen Schühplattler Dancers will perform traditional Maypole dances on Saturday, May 28 and Sunday, May 29. This dance troupe performs a lively show of conventional shoe-slapping, dirndl twirling, maypole-ribbon dancing, and playing wooden spoons. Another bonus is that Maifest makes it easy to get to the event and back safely. This year, the Free Big Bear Trolley gives complimentary rides to the Big Bear Lake Convention Center (home to Maifest) as one of the Free Trolley’s regular stops. With limited parking capacity, Big Bear Lake Maifest organizers encourage guests to hop

on The Free Big Bear Trolley to catch a free ride to the event. There’s no reason to fret about getting back home either because Big Bear Lake Maifest ensures its patrons get back safe with its very own Free shuttle service. The complimentary shuttle runs from 6 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. at the Convention Center. So, to catch a free ride to any home or lodging accommodation in Big Bear Valley and leave the driving to professional drivers. This traditional German springtime festival brings plenty of Oktoberfest essentials with invigorating springtime flavors. Topping the list is Maibock, a German-style brew that’s pale in color and more hopcentric than its fall/winter counterpart, bock-style beers. Maibock, which is only brewed during the springtime (mainly for Miafest), has a distinguished lightly toasted and bready malt flavor. Maibock is a specially crafted beverage to enjoy on a sunny spring day. In addition, big Bear Lake Maifest serves another refreshing springtime German favorite called Maibowle, a Champagne-
style fruity punch drink. Festive food items certain to temp the palate are cotton candy and an assortment of tasty, saved-ice treats. Another thing that sets Maifest apart from her big sister Oktoberfest is a festive Maypole known as the Maibaum, adorned with bright, colorful ribbons. Plus, Big Bear Lake Maifest adds Oktoberfest favorites to the mix, including sizzling bratwursts hot off the grill, homemade sauerkraut, fresh pretzels, apple strudel with warm vanilla sauce, a May 18, 2022

debt currently has reached $29,377,010,844,323. The meeting in Europe, where the members of the Fed met with others involved with currency, determined that they would just keep printing money. To soften the blow of Inflation. Which begs the question…Given the clear risk of extreme debt and currency devaluation… What if the $120 billion per month and soon-tobe $7 trillion printed by the Fed…… is this all MEANT to cause hyperinflation…… leading to the collapse of the American economy…… and a “Great Reset” that strips the power from the people and gives it all to the centralized financial elite? This sounds like a bad dream, But This Nightmare Is Happening Right Now, In Front of Our Very Eyes… Because, as you’re about to discover, within every major crash in recent history… there’s a “reset” that triggers massive wealth transfer and further centralization of power. Centralization is where the many are controlled by a few at the top… restricting ownership and freedom… That’s why President Ronald Reagan warned… “Millions of individuals making their own decisions in the marketplace will always allocate resources better than any centralized government planning process.” Indeed – centralization is the single biggest threat to the American way of life. So the question is… why is this happening now? Simple: because those in control of global centralization of financial power are closer than ever to their end-game!!! It’s why statements like Klaus Schwab, the Founder of the World Economic Forum, stated, “You’ll Own Nothing and Be Happy…”… are now being brashly and openly repeated by leaders of this “Great Reset”… … including those like Bilderberg and Davos frontman Klaus Schwab/ Founder. … who have no allegiance to America, its people, or its great roots… According to the Center for Research on Globalization, this Great Reset is really about..“Permanent restrictions on fundamental liberties and mass surveillance….” And it gets worse… “The World Economic Forum says the public will ‘rent’ everything they require: stripping the right of ownership under ‘sustainable consumption and ‘saving the planet.’ Just like they have been selling us the idea that we were causing the environmental changes of the earth and spending tons of taxpayers’ money to correct the problems. However, the world has been changing
since it was created. “Of course, the tiny elite who rolled out this Great Reset will own everything. “This Is One Reason Why They Want America and Its Economic Freedom to Collapse… Because it serves as the last source of resistance standing in the way of the Great Reset’s plan for full global centralization power… That’s also why, before I go any further, I have to make it clear…The best of these so-called “radical” solutions not only disrupt centralized financial control… … they solve every single one of its problems… from privacy and security… to fees and high-interest rates… or any problem you’ve ever had with a bank or payments. They also offer the “ONLY hope” to stop this movement toward centralization and preserve the American way of life. Now… my guess is that, as you read this report and see the shocking proof of what is about to happen… something inside you may say: “There’s No Way This Could Really Happen… Not Here!.” Well, tell that to the people of Australia… who have been locked down for nearly two years…Tracked, traced, and fined up to $5,000 for leaving their homes. And remember also, virtually NO ONE believed that the world’s most prominent mortgage bankers, Fannie Mae & Freddie Mac, would go bankrupt and crash the real estate market in 2008… Likewise, almost NO ONE believed that long-held American “institutions” like GM would belly up soon after… And even very recently, virtually NO ONE believed that our government would
“lockdown” the country, crushing tens of thousands of small businesses… A LOT is happening that “could never happen here”… Thus, my advice is this: you MUST be prepared…Because The Writing Is on The Wall!! And I can tell you with nearly 100% certainty that most Americans will not know what to do when centralization reaches its final form…When everyday commodity prices – including essential staples like milk, bread, and gasoline – go through the roof. Most people won’t know what to do when banks close, When their internet service or mobile phone is shut off or When their credit cards stop working…Or when they’re not allowed to withdraw cash or exchange digital currency… Some of this is already happening… There are increasing restrictions and regulations on digital currency ownership… and there are discussions that our currency will change to digital. And with massive increasing levels of censorship,
by the time we realize this is all happening…It will be too late. Can you imagine America without private property… no free speech… forced medical procedures… removing your right to abortion, no ability to earn a decent living and massive welfare-like dependence on the government! With all the money ‘ giveaways ‘during the Pandemic, people became dependent on the government. It was part of their plan. So, it could all be coming to our cities in the not-so-distant future. In short, our way of life in America will be in for the most radical change we’ve ever seen because of centralization… …UNLESS we stop it and chart a different path. The Mercury retrograde affects your thinking, communication and values. Also, your mode of transportation and all things technological. Do things need tune ups, repair, upgrades, expansions? Are all systems of contact working? Are there people you must contact, tasks to tend to, bills and correspondences waiting for your attention? Whatever must be done, do it slowly, with care and attention and give yourself more time than usual. Have intentions to complete all previous work. You have three weeks. Magical times indeed!
TAURUS Previous financial situations not able to be tended to till now may need your attention. With all bills and monetary interactions, check and recheck the amounts for there could be mistakes. It will be important to re-evaluate your budget and spending. I think you have many valuable items, which could be sold so you have more capital to work with. Also, tend to ordering preparedness supplies. And create that environment you’re impelled to build for the times to come. A large greenhouse perhaps?

self-criticism to undermine your goodness. There may be a challenge between your love of self and your judgmental critical self. Let love win out. Someone else may activate this. Know that your childhood experiences were chosen by you for learning. Love underlies all happenings in our lives.
CANCER Fears may be ready to set up housekeeping in your emotional mind. Inform them they are neither useful nor welcome. Others can assist you if you share what’s bothering you. Allow them to listen. Fear can become addictive, looping over and over in your lower mind and bringing you to your knees metaphorically. If there is lamentation and grief, that is allowed. But fear isn’t. It isn’t real and is based on noninformation. Love is what heals. Call in the Soul of the matters.
LEO Reassessing friendships and social interactions, future goals, hopes, wishes and aspirations are your currents of thought in the coming weeks. Reevaluating these dreams and wishes keeps us in touch and aware with our internal lives. Whenever we feel tension and longing, know that new needs and aspirations are calling to be recognized. When desires are spiritualized, they become aspirations. They inform us of the pathways to our future.
VIRGO
Your life direction comes more and more into focus along with who you want to be in the coming years. These are most important considerations and ones you have been seeking. Sometimes we don’t really know what life has in store for us. And sometimes we can’t visualize anything. What in your life are you striving toward? What things/events are most important for you? Do the environments you find yourself in, reflect you? Where would you like to be?
LIBRA Several times in our lives we have spiritual experiences that lead us to reassess life’s purpose and our purpose within life itself. We define, refine and redefine; we ask if there is actual justice in life. There is but it’s often hidden unless we quest beneath the surface of the accepted reality. Ethics become important, morals, discernment, too. What are your ethics, morals and values? To remain on the path of Light, remember at all times to radiate Goodwill.
SCORPIO Other people’s money and resources will be on your mind and/or money and resources you hold in common with another. Arrange a meeting specifically concerning these resources stating what both of your needs are at present and for the future. Think gold and silver. You will reassess and rearrange but it must be done with equanimity. We will begin
to enter into a sharing economy. Knowing this you can better manage your need for power. Power with others works best.
SAGITTARIUS Remembering all previous relationships may occur the next three weeks. It’s good to assess what was gained, what worked, what didn’t and how your belief systems (patterns learned in childhood) affected the outcomes. Something special is or will be occurring concerning the heart of the matter. Perhaps it’s that you understand how love works and that it’s not about how the other loves. It’s about your intentions and ability to see the life principle of livingness in action. You are to love more.
CAPRICORN Daily work and agendas, interactions with family, friends and co-workers will be the focus. Something from the past shows up and through the intentions for right relations to occur you create a state of cooperation that surpasses all expectations. Home life on a daily basis may be changing. A previous restrictive attitude of someone near you pauses for a while. Eventually a difficulty in relationships must be faced lest something is lost forever. Schedules shift and change constantly. You have the strength to persist.

Your mother and you as mother (if you are); your relationship with children, especially daughters; concern about your home – where and how you live and what the future will bring in terms of home, family, and the quality of nurturing you give and receive. Having a pet may help you get more fit By Desert Star Staff People in the United States are stressed between work, family obligations, and a constantly changing world. According to a State of the Global Workplace study, U.S. workers are among the most stressed globally. While some stress is unavoidable and can be good for you, constant or chronic stress can have real consequences for your mental and physical health. Chronic stress can increase your lifetime risk of heart disease and stroke. It can also lead to unhealthy habits like overeating, physical inactivity and smoking while increasing risk factors, including high blood pressure, depression, and anxiety. However, a scientific statement from the American Heart Association shows reducing stress and cultivating a positive mindset can improve health and well-being. To help people understand the connection between stress and physical health, the American Heart Association offers these science-backed insights to help reduce chronic stress. Stay Active Exercise is one of the easiest ways to keep your body healthy and release stress. Physical activity is linked to a
lower risk of diseases, stronger bones and muscles, improved mental health and cognitive function and a lower risk of depression. It can also help increase energy and improve the quality of sleep. The American Heart Association recommends adults get at least 150 minutes per week of moderate-intensity activity, 75 minutes of vigorous exercise or a combination. Meditate Incorporate meditation and mindfulness practices into your day to give yourself a few minutes to create some distance from daily stress. Some studies show meditation can reduce blood pressure, improve sleep, support the immune system, and increase your ability to process information. Practice Positivity A positive mindset can improve overall health. Studies show a positive attitude can help you live longer, and happy individuals tend to sleep better, exercise more, eat better and not smoke. Practice positive self-talk to help you stay calm. Instead of saying, “everything is going wrong,” re-frame the situation and remind yourself, “I can handle this if I take it one step at a time.” Show Gratitude

3 Tips to Maintain Brain Health M
FAMILY FEATURES
any people are fearful of developing Alzheimer’s disease, especially those with a family history of the condition. Researchers are investigating innovative treatments for Alzheimer’s and other dementias, but no cure exists right now.
There are steps people can take, however, to help maintain and support their brain health. These activities often help with physical and emotional health and are generally positive habits to foster, especially as people age. In fact, a report from “The Lancet” found the risk of dementia is lower among people who adhere to these healthy habits:
1) Get Physical
According to Harvard Medical School, exercise keeps the brain healthy by helping release chemicals that support the development of new nerve cells and connections between brain cells. Exercise also improves mental health, blood pressure and the regulation of blood sugar, all of which can impact the development of cognitive diseases like Alzheimer’s and other dementias. Staying physically active can become more difficult if someone’s health declines, but doctors and other medical providers can share ways to maintain physical activity even if mobility is limited.
2) Keep Your Brain Active
Engaging in mentally stimulating activities may help keep the brain fit and potentially stave off dementia or other types of cognitive decline. For example, people who have cognitively demanding jobs (like accountants or math teachers) or who engage in cognitively stimulating activities (like learning a second language or how to play a musical instrument) may be at lower risk for developing cognitive decline and dementia, according to Harvard Medical School. Activities like these and more can also decrease feelings of depression, isolation and loneliness, which occur more frequently as people age and are also associated with an increased risk for developing dementia, according to the National Institute on Aging.
3) Track Your Brain Health and Get Help Early
One way to detect changes in brain health is to track memory and other thinking skill performance over time. Detecting changes in memory is critical to slowing the progression of Alzheimer’s, which can begin 15-20 years before the onset of obvious symptoms. Some changes in mood or memory that may raise red flags are often noticed by other people, not by the individual experiencing the changes, making it important for older adults who live alone or who do not have large social circles to track their own brain health.

Alzheimer’s Facts
One option for tracking brain health is the Alzheimer Prevention Trials (APT) Webstudy, funded by the National Institutes of Health, which monitors an individual’s brain health through regular online memory testing that can be completed anywhere, anytime from a computer, laptop or tablet. Participants take no-cost, online memory tests quarterly that are automatically shared with researchers who track results over time. If changes in memory are detected, and a participant is close enough to a study site, he or she may be invited to an inperson evaluation and, if appropriate, given the option to join an Alzheimer’s clinical trial.
n

n
While researchers are working to advance treatments and find a cure for Alzheimer’s, it’s important that people practice healthy brain habits and monitor their brain health as they age to detect any changes in memory as early as possible. Without a cure, taking preventive measures and maintaining a healthy lifestyle are the best defenses against the disease.
n
More than 1 in 9 people ages 65 and older has Alzheimer’s disease, according to the Alzheimer’s Association. Black adults are twice as likely to develop Alzheimer’s compared to white adults, according to the National Institute on Aging. Hispanic or Latino adults are 1.5 times as likely to develop Alzheimer’s compared to white adults, according to the Alzheimer’s Association. According to the Alzheimer’s Association, 1 in 3 seniors dies with dementia.

Film Noir Festival 2022
Lauren Welfare, production director, Host-Alan K. Rode, Eddie Muller and guest Vega Dean. Photo by Pat Krause Story and Photos by Pat Krause The 22nd Arthur Lyons Film Noir Festival was held from May 11th thru the 15th. The event was held at the Palm Springs Cultural Center, formerly known as the Camelot Theatre. Alan K.Rode is the producer and host. Michael Green, Executive Director-Palm Springs Cultural Center and Eric Smith, Cultural Center Manager, welcomed this year’s Film-Noir again. The Film Noir Festival has been
held here since its beginning. Film Noir brings some of the best in old Black and White well-known past movies. Great film of thrillers, crime and suspense. Movie with stars like Burt Lancaster, Charlton Heston, Kirk Douglas, Gene Tierney, Farley Granger, Betty Grable and Victor Mature. People grew up watching these films made by iconic directors. Fans want to see these movies again. Many have had to be

restored. Young people now have an opportunity to watch these on TV. Seeing them in a theatre brings another dimension to the film. This year brought another well-known movie critic and author, Leonard Maltin, to the theatre for a book signing. His new book, Starstruck-My Unlikely Road To Hollywood, was held before the screening of the movie, They Live By Night, a 1949 classic.
Another guest this year was Victoria Mature, daughter of Victor Mature. She held a special event with her multitalents by singing and a special holding tribute to her late father with film clips. Fans filled the theatre for these films. Most fans bought event tickets to be able to watch many movies during the Festival. Eddie Muller, TMC’s Noir Alley program, was on hand to introduce films and
noir discussions. Some of the Films shown were I Wake Up Screaming, Detective Story. I Walk Alone, The Guilty and one of my favorites, Leave Her to Heaven. Some of the proceeds of the Festival go toward the preservation and restoration of these old classic films. This is a way for many generations to see these films of yesteryear; sad to say that many are already lost forever.

No Baby Food: 6 Foods with Important Nutrients for Infants By Desert Star Staff At nearly all hours of the day, parents of infants have a lot to think about, including being conscious of what their little ones are eating. From birth and beyond, proper nutrition is fundamental for continued health. Particularly now, as the world is facing a Baby Food shortage. In fact, according to the World Health Organization, optimal feeding during the first three years of life is vital for its role in reducing the risk of chronic disease and promoting normal mental and physical development. Therefore, it is critical to ensure that nutritional needs are met with various foods while regularly offering new and different flavors for healthy eating for infants. Consider these sources of essential nutrients recommended by the experts at Plum Organics. Orange Fruits and Vegetables: Offering a combination of mildly sweet and savory flavors, orange fruits and vegetables, including butternut squash, pumpkin, carrot, and sweet potato, provide multiple vital nutrients. They’re great sources of beta-carotene, a carotenoid converted into vitamin A in the body. Vitamin A is essential for a robust immune system, healthy skin, and optimal vision in dim light. Additionally, these fruits and veggies provide potassium that
helps maintain the body’s fluid balance and, in turn, is essential in controlling blood pressure. Meat, Poultry, Eggs, Beans and Legumes: This group of foods provides savory flavors for babies to enjoy along with a multitude of essential nutrients, including: * Choline: plays a vital role in metabolism and early brain development. * Protein: essential for growth and development and optimal body functioning. * Iron: supports brain development, immune function, and overall growth. By around six months of age, babies’ iron stores built up in utero are typically depleted, so they need to start consuming food sources of iron around that age. In fact, according to “The Journal of Nutrition,” 20% of babies between 6-12 months are at risk for iron deficiency. Therefore, during infancy, it’s encouraged to offer babies foods like Plum Organics’ Carrot, Sweet Potato, Corn, Pea & Chicken Baby Food Pouches that make it easy and convenient to prioritize iron-rich protein foods and savory flavors. * Zinc: supports immune function and overall growth. According to the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, approximately half (54%) of United States infants fed human milk have inadequate zinc intake. Fish: Along with providing nutrients like protein and choline, fish (such as salmon,
Photos courtesy of Getty Images arctic char, steelhead trout and sardines) also offers interesting new flavors for babies. Plus, fish contains DHA, an essential fatty acid important for eye and brain development during infancy, and vitamin D, an essential nutrient that supports healthy bones and teeth. Broccoli, Cauliflower and Spinach: Along with the introduction of slightly bitter flavors, veggies like these also provide vitamin C, an essential antioxidant that’s particularly important during infancy because it helps the body better absorb non-heme iron from plant foods. When feeding your baby
iron-rich foods like beans, whole grains, nuts or seeds in infantsafe forms, pair them with a fruit or vegetable high in vitamin C for optimal iron absorption. Whole Grains: Amaranth, barley, quinoa, and iron-fortified cereals offer nutty, mildly sweet and savory flavors and dietary benefits, including iron, zinc, protein and potassium, and dietary fiber that helps support digestive health and healthy bowel function. Consider an option like Plum Organics’ Banana, Zucchini and Amaranth Baby Food Pouches that make it easy to expose babies to the flavor and experience of nutrient-
rich whole grains. This type of exposure helps increase the likelihood that they’ll continue to accept whole grains and benefit from the nutrients they offer as they grow into toddlerhood. Coconut Cream and Yogurt: Mild, slightly sweet flavors like coconut cream and full-fat Greek yogurt also provide fats essential for overall growth and neurological development. Plus, fat is a crucial source of energy for on-the-go infants. To find more information and convenient foods that give infants the nutrients they need, visit plumorganics.com.
Thousand Palms Canyon Road Repair Project to Start Construction in June
By Desert Star Staff INDIO HILLS – Riverside County Supervisors advanced the Thousand Palms Canyon Road Resurfacing Project this week. This significant project will fix up and improve the entire 4.2-mile length of Thousand Palms Canyon Road. This scenic road runs between the community of Thousand Palms and the communities of Indio
Hills and Sky Valley. The project is expected to improve vehicle safety, provide broader shoulders for bicyclists and enhance the road used by many hikers and visitors to the Coachella Valley Preserve. The Riverside County Transportation Department will make a presentation on the project at 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 17, at a Zoom meeting of the Indio Hills Community
Council Community members can learn about the project and the construction plans and have their questions addressed. “I am glad we are nearing construction for the resurfacing and widening of Thousand Palms Canyon Road, a beautiful drive from Thousand Palms to our unincorporated communities in the northern part of the valley,” said Supervisor V.
Manuel Perez. “This will make travel much smoother and safer for our residents, visitors to the Oasis Preserve, and bicyclists, who will have a widened shoulder to use.” The Thousand Palms Canyon Road Resurfacing Project will begin construction in June, following the Riverside County Board of Supervisors’ approval of the construction contract, awarded Tuesday to Matich Corporation of San Bernardino. The project will resurface the deteriorated roadway with new pavement, provide five-foot-wide paved shoulders for bicycle use, and add turn pockets for two driveways near the
Coachella Valley Preserve. Other safety enhancement measures include rumble strips, signage and striping. The total budget of the road repair project is $4.8 million and is funded from the county’s SB 1 funds, generated from the gas taxes and vehicle registration fees paid by motorists. The work will be phased to keep the road open during construction as much as possible. Construction is expected to be completed in late summer 2022. Additional information is available on the project Web page, https://rcprojects.org/ thousand-palms. Source: The office of District 4 Supervisor V. Manuel Perez

NOTICE TO POTENTIAL BIDDERS: If you are considering bidding on this property lien, you should understand that there are risks involved in bidding at a trustee auction. You will be bidding on a lien, not on the property itself. Placing the highest bid at a trustee auction does not automatically entitle you to free and clear ownership of the property. You should also be aware that the lien being auctioned off may be a junior lien. If you are the highest bidder at the auction, you are or may be responsible for paying off all liens senior to the lien being auctioned off, before you can receive clear title to the property. You are encouraged to investigate the existence, priority, and size of outstanding liens that may exist on this property by contacting the county recorder’s office or a title insurance company, either of which may charge you a fee for this information. If you consult either of these resources, you should be aware that the same lender may hold more than one mortgage or deed of trust on the property. NOTICE TO PROPERTY OWNER: The sale date shown on this notice of sale may be postponed one or more times by the mortgagee, beneficiary, trustee, or a court, pursuant to Section 2924g of the California Civil Code. The law requires that information about trustee sale postponements be made available to you and to the public, as a courtesy to those not present at the sale. If you wish to learn whether your sale date has been postponed, and, if applicable, the rescheduled time and date for the sale of this property, you may call (844) 477-7869 or visit this Internet Web site WWW.STOXPOSTING.COM, using the file number assigned to this case 097905-CA. Information about postponements that are very short in duration or that occur close in time to the scheduled sale may not immediately be reflected in the telephone information or on the Internet Web site. The best way to verify postponement information is to attend the scheduled sale. NOTICE TO TENANT: Effective January 1, 2021, you may have a right to purchase this property after the trustee auction pursuant to Section 2924m of the California Civil Code. If you are an “eligible tenant buyer,” you can purchase the property if you match the last and highest bid placed at the trustee auction. High school seniors invited to gain work experience By Desert Star Staff RANCHO MIRAGE, CA – Sunnylands invites graduating high school seniors to an open house at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 22, to learn about a paid internship program that trains eligible college students to serve as Sunnylands guides. The Sunnylands tour guide internship program offers competitive pay and internship credit opportunities from participating colleges, universities, and majors. It is also designed to help students prepare for their future careers through professional development workshops, individual assessments, and the exploration of “soft skills” to develop strengths as team members and future leaders. The new interns will begin instruction in August and will serve as Sunnylands guides from September through early June 2023. Students will have the opportunity to stay for three seasons, receiving advanced skillbuilding programs each year. Sunnylands is the
former winter home of the late philanthropists Walter and Leonore Annenberg. Throughout the second half of the 20th century, the couple famously hosted Hollywood celebrities, U.S. presidents, British royalty, and other dignitaries at the 200-acre estate in Rancho Mirage. Currently, the estate operates as a high-level retreat center, drawing experts from various fields to address pressing societal issues, from a cure for HIV to U.S.-China relations. Adjacent to the estate, Sunnylands Center & Gardens serves as the public access point for the estate but is a destination point in its own right, featuring nine acres of desert gardens, an art exhibition, and informational kiosks on Sunnylands and the Annenbergs. “Tour guides are responsible for advancing the educational mission of The Annenberg Foundation Trust at Sunnylands by providing a welcoming experience at the Center & Gardens, historic
house, and grounds through guided tours,” said Michaeleen Gallagher, director of education and environmental programs. “As a tour guide, students will be able to gain work experience in a beautiful environment that incorporates art, architecture, history, hospitality, golf course operations, and environmental sustainability.” High school students attending college in the fall and their parents are invited to an open house at Sunnylands Center beginning at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 22. Guests will have an opportunity to ask questions about the internship program and hear from staff members about various aspects of Sunnylands. Then, at 5:15 p.m., attendees will be invited to walk onto the grounds of the historic estate for a light informational session about Sunnylands’ history and the Annenbergs’ commitment to education. The banquet will occur at Fantasy Springs Resort from 4 to 7 p.m. on June 12 and is open to everyone connected with the Foundation. “This annual ceremony is a most rewarding experience for the scholarship recipients and their families, our scholarship partners, friends of our Foundation, and those in the community supporting our mission,” stated Dr. Carreón Foundation Executive Director Ricardo Loretta.
Students with Mexican/ Latino ancestry from all Coachella Valley high schools, and Palo Verde High School in Blythe, were invited to submit a scholarship application.
