One Night Only Concert
Jason Graee and the Cats dancers. Photo by Pat Krause Story and Photos by Pat Krause Michael Childers proudly produced his 14th annual production of One Night Only that was held at the McCallum Theatre again this year. The theme for this year’s concert was Broadway Show Stoppers. Over twenty award-winning Broadway and Hollywood performers
graced the McCallum stage on April 14th. This is one of the most significant highlighted events in the Desert each year. The show was dedicated to Barbara Keller who lost her battle against cancer. She was also a founding member of One Night Only. All of these performers donate their time and their
incredible talents to do this show. Many singers come each year to be a part of this event and the charity it supports. This year all of the proceeds went to the Barbara Sinatra Children’s Center. This is always a sold out concert way in advance. Choreographer Larry Fuller directed the show, and the musical director
was Christopher Marlowe. Many concert lovers consider this the show of the year. Honorary co-chairs were Helene Galen, the famous Barry Manilow, Garry Kief, Harold Matzner and in memoriam, Barbara Keller. The Event co-chairs were Barbara Fromm and Terri Ketover. The Executive Producer was
Ken Katz, and co-producer was Nancy Downer. It takes a lot of people to put on an extravaganza like this. There is a big difference between singers from Broadway and Hollywood than the pop stars of concerts today. The performance of their songs Continues on Page 7
Denise DuBarry Hay’s gets her Star Story and Photos by Pat Krause The Palm Springs Walk of Stars held a dedication placement of Denise DuBarry Hay’s Star. The Star was placed on the corner of Tahquitz Canyon and Palm Canyon Drive across from Starbucks restaurant. Several hundred people sat in chairs, stood or took seats at the corner restaurant. Speakers included her sister Suzanna DuBarry, Harold Matzner, Patti Gribow and more. Her daughter Whitney spoke about what a wonderful mother she was and her son asked for a moment of silence to remember a special moment everyone could remember with Denise.
A special treat for the guests was when her friend Patricia Welch sang her favorite song. A few tears were shed then when Mayor Robert Moon gave his husband Bill a plaque to commemorate the day. Denise had opened two Bikram Yoga studios. Her friend Rajashree Choudhury spoke about her love of Bikram Yoga and living a healthy lifestyle. The friends and family that spoke told of what a charming and energetic person she was. She wore many hats as an actress, philanthropist, restauranteur, nutritionist, movie producer, wife and mother, yoga instructor and business owner. She led
an extraordinary life. Her Husband Bill and her children, Whitney, Kyle, and Adam were in attendance also. Denise and her husband were big supporters of Olive Crest, and Olive Crest speakers told of all the vital work they did to support that charity. She was a member and past president of Palm Springs Women in Film and Television. PSWIFT brought a huge basket of white roses in her honor and gave each guest attending one of the roses to remember the occasion and her. Her Star was then unveiled, and guests took photos and offered condolences to her family for her loss.
