Memorial Flower Drop

They always have the flower drop from a B-25 airplane that drops red and white carnations onto the museum grounds. Hundreds of people brave the heat to be able to honor our dead heroes

from the many wars. Parents bring children to be able to see Americans honor these heroes. Everyone hopes to be able to bring home one of the carnations that come down from the sky. Each carnation is a symbol of one of the heroes that lost their lives in the protection of our country and its freedoms.

By Desert Star Staff RANCHO MIRAGE - Les Dames d’Escoffier International (LDEI), Palm Springs Chapter is pleased to announce its 2017 scholarship awardee, Janelle Vidal, one of the first class to complete all four years of Rancho Mirage High School’s culinary arts institute. Vidal will be attending the University of California, Los Angeles studying Environment Science with a focus on food science. She is awarded an annual $2,000 culinary scholarship that will continue throughout her career at UCLA upon demonstrating good academic standing. Vidal achieved Distinguished Scholar and the Principal’s Honor Roll awards

with a higher than 4.0 GPA throughout her education at Rancho Mirage High School. She was a member and historian for the CAFÉ Academy, vice president of the Spanish Society, member of the Key Club, Culture Club and Tennis Club, ranking among the top ten on the Girls’ Varsity Team for tennis. She had a culinary internship at the Hyatt Regency Indian Wells and volunteered in activities for seniors at Atria Hacienda in Palm Desert. Vidal plans to pursue a career that is related to culinary and nutrition. She chose Environmental Science “because there are many

and was supposed to go to his sister who is 94 and was unable to attend. The award was presented to DeeDee Radler, golden star wife of Capt. Gregg Radler, who accepted the award in her behalf. The medal was donated to the Museum. People donate precious items to the Museum so

others can know of their sacrifice and bravery and will always be remembered. Congressman Raul Ruiz spoke about the award, and the sacrifices made for our country and others gave proclamations and speeches. Vendors surrounded the Continues on Page 10
