‘Helping the Helpers’ Mazda Extends Essential Car Care Program For Healthcare Heroes By Desert Star Staff IRVINE, Calif., Mazda North American Operations (MNAO) announced today that its Essential Car Care program, which provides free standard oil changes and enhanced car cleaning services for eligible U.S. healthcare workers at dealers nationwide, will now run through June 1.
“Our family of Mazda dealers and employees feel a deep sense of gratitude to the health care workers during these difficult times, and we are proud to be able to support them in communities across the country,” MNAO President Jeff Guyton said. “We’ve seen the meaningful impact of this program first-hand, and we
are excited to continue to give something back as a thank you for their heroic efforts.” The Essential Car Care program, which began on April 16, was developed in partnership with Mazda’s U.S. dealer network. The company will invest a minimum of $5 million as part of the initiative. The program extension will
allow healthcare heroes throughout the U.S., including those in some of the hardest hit parts of the country, more time to access this program. In order to help ensure the safety of healthcare workers and service employees, dealers participating in the Essential Car Care initiative have committed to enhanced vehicle
cleaning of high-touch interior and exterior surfaces using Mazda and EPA-approved cleansers. Mazda has also encouraged dealers to continue following the recommendations from the CDC and local public health and government officials, along with workplace personal hygiene practices to help ensure the safety of Continues on Page 10

Did Pointless Travel Give Pandemic a Free Ride?
By Anthony Grant “Air travel,” senators Edward Markey (D-Mass.) and Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) recently said, “is a major vector for Covid-19.” In early February, the London Telegraph newspaper reported that “a deadly flu strain that originated in China” was being “fast exported to other countries around the world thanks to aviation. “ Were the legions of “points and miles” travelers somehow give the coronavirus pandemic a lift? It seems that the self-styled social media “influencers” were at the very least complicit. You know who they are: That self-indulgent navel-gazing millennial layabouts. The latter by methods strategic, duplicitous, or often both deemed it their life’s mission to rack up as many frequent flier points/hotel bonus points
as humanly possible to fly in first-class or business class and as often as possible. How relevant is all that now? You’ve doubtless seen the pictures of these celebrity wannabes in a first-class seat zooming over to nowhere in particular while clutching a flute of Champagne at 30,000 feet. I emphasize: flying to nowhere in particular. Some of the most outrageously outlandish firstclass cabins belong to airlines that serve some of the world’s least interesting cities. So before this crisis, the airlines based in such places had to turn to glaring extravagance to woo passengers. Remember when Jennifer Aniston took a shower in one of those Emirates First Class Shower Suites? She took the money and probably ran—to a more credible destination than Dubai (for example) could ever hope to be.
Hamad International or other overgrown foreign airports. And what did the airlines do in response? They just ate it up because the social media publicity was free. Like MarieAntoinette who got hooked on fancy cakes while the French peasants could barely pin down a crust of bread, the airlines prioritized the outfitting of the very front of the plane— that’s business class and firstclass, in other words—with every conceivable luxurious accoutrement from needlessly over-the-top multicourse meals to first-class lavatory attendants to dispensing Krug like it was tap water. And doing all that while cramming as many nonpoint chasers into the main But for those narcissistic primates who never knew any economy cabin as possible. The points poobahs and serial perk-chasers have gone mysteriously silent as the pandemic that their own pointless travel helped propagate continues. You see, some now posting pictures of themselves sitting in an empty plane with a mask on issuing a platitude-laden couple of paragraphs about how they just can’t wait until the day when they can make yet another beach run to say, the Maldives. The points and miles bloggers are sitting this one out because they’ve been forced out by circumstance, but don’t kid yourself—they are just waiting to jump back in. But “rewards” travel is irresponsible travel. Nobody should reward unnecessary travel with their time, loyalty, or attention. We must all unfollow the practitioners of pointlessness, for it has proved to be positively lethal. There is a universe of difference between chronicling one’s travels and posting pictures of the latest faux leather lie-flat seat in a firstclass airplane cabin. If you want to know what it’s like to wander a foreign land, read The Great Railway Bazaar by Paul Theroux. Explore a place through literature before whipping off there just because Kim Kardashian did a photoshoot there, or because there’s a new chain resort where you can cash in your bonus points to get the fourth night free. Make an investment in the only thing in travel that was ever actually rewarding: authenticity.
Wounded Warrior Project Brings Dolphins to Veterans
By Desert Star Staff Wounded warrior Tonya Cook spent part of her day training dolphins. The 20-year Navy veteran learned about eating habits, how dolphins play with one another, and how fast they swim. She did so with more than a dozen other veteran families, all without leaving her living room. “It’s new; I actually like it,” Tonya said. “For me, the dolphin experience was really awesome.” Tonya loves dolphins, so she jumped at the opportunity to interact virtually with dolphins and trainers from Dolphin Research Center. Wounded Warrior Project® (WWP) connected these families with this opportunity
recently. It is one of the many ways the veteran’s charity has adjusted to social distancing guidelines to keep warriors and families engaged in their homes, but away from isolation. “I think this has been a wonderful thing they have connected to,” said Joan Mehew, director of Special Needs at Dolphin Research Center. “It was educational, it was fun, but it was also calming, on top of everything that we are going through.” “I’ve never swam with the dolphins or had any interaction like that, and it was wonderful,” said Honor Andruzzi, a Navy veteran. “I got to share it with my daughter, who wants to

The Financial Outcome of America and how to deal with Your Money Now
By Janice Gough The U.S. is on track for a depression worse even than the Great Depression. The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) fell by a more significant percentage in the past 3 months than it did during the Great Depression. While viewing the negative figures today when the market opened, it is crazy for anyone to invest in the market now. People should go into cash until the market gets to a reasonable valuation. In the second-quarter GDP, the gross domestic product has gone down by 35%-40%.

In the Great Depression, it took three years, 1929-1933, for the GDP to fall 26%. The products we produce and sell to other countries is falling in a downward spiral, which can devastate our country for years to come. Fortunately, we now have more social programs that can help us, and our distribution networks have improved from years ago. It is keeping us from feeling the extent of the long-term pain. As the GDP falls, more people will be phased out of jobs, along with factories and plant closings all over the country. Products will be more scarce, and costs will be much higher. With this outlook, we all must take the best steps when moving our money. So many people are cashstrapped, especially for those who have lost their jobs. These are some suggestions regarding using your assets now. One solution which could prove quite effective would be withdrawing cash from a 401(k) account to pay off all or part of your mortgage. If you’ve lost your job, you’ll have the advantage of being in a lower tax bracket than maybe a higher one in the future, so you can take the money out
of the retirement account, and pay taxes on it at a lower rate, then put it back into a Roth IRA account as things stabilize and not pay any taxes on it again. There is no deferral value in delaying paying taxes early. Because the real return is zero. Getting rid of debt will improve your cash flow. And, if inflation takes off, keeping the mortgage is A good hedge. One may consider filing early for Social Security. However, I would suggest cashing out your retirement account over taking Social Security early because by not waiting for Full Retirement Age, you could lose 25% permanently. By waiting to age 70 to receive Social Security benefits, your benefits can grow by 40%. By delaying filing as long as they can, You can accrue 8% additional earnings credit, which you get each year from age 66 to age 70, producing a significantly higher payout in retirement. Tapping your retirement accounts is a much better idea. Another option is to take Social Security immediately, but then go back to work maybe in a year or so. If you reach full retirement age (66& 2 mos.), you can suspend your benefit and start it again at 70 at

roughly a 30% higher number. This allows you to borrow at a low rate and invest at a high rate with no risk. Taking S.S. now will increase 2020 taxes, but there will likely be a large net gain. By paying down debt with the early withdrawal, You could earn 2-1/2% real return, off the entire amount that you paid off. This can work even if you have to pay the 10% penalty for making withdrawals before age 59. Other options which are out there is that there is still a housing market, so you could downsize and move to a less costly state. Or you could halfsize your house either where you live or move to a place where housing is cheaper, or maybe you could buy a similar house for half the price. You may consider moving to a state that doesn’t have a state income tax, and where the cost of living may be cheaper, like Washington state or Florida. Many people moving to states with lower taxes and reducing cost-of-living expenses have improved the quality of their lives. (These are the States with the lowest effective property tax rates are Hawaii (0.36%), Alabama (0.48%), Colorado (0.52%), Utah (0.56%) and Nevada (0.58%). Tennessee
(0.61%); West Virginia (0.61%), Delaware (0.62%), Arizona (0.63%) and Wyoming (0.65%). If you are paying a significant premium for insurance plans, you may consider Premium Financing, which could lower your monthly payment and provide a tax deduction on the interest paid. Everybody is likely to feel some pain unless you removed yourself from an island. I have thought for some time that our biggest threat, as a country, is the shrinking of the Middle Class. Remember us, we are the real ones that have made this country Great! The elite will prosper, and everybody else will have struggles with staying solvent. We must be like a squirrel and gather nuts for the hard winter ahead!

Pandemic Questions Continue
Dear R.S.: The declared state of emergency in California does not mean the Open Meeting Act or your bylaws have been suspended. Many HOA boards are mistakenly thinking that everything now is an emergency, and thereby dispense with the required transparency under the law. Quorum, notice to members, and openness are still the requirements, even during this emergency. Civil Code Section 4923 defines “emergency” as “circumstances that could not have been reasonably foreseen” requiring immediate action. There are few topics which cannot wait four days for proper notice to members. Also, meetings can still be in the open. Telephonic or electronic meetings are permitted by Civil Code 4090(b) and 4925(a) – so there is no reason to hold improper closed or emergency meetings. Even in times such as these, proper association governance is

Dear. D.C.: Per Civil Code Section 5600, associations may only assess for actual expenses. If your association is having a shortfall in its ability to meet expenses, those expenses are yours as much as anyone else in your HOA. HOROSCOPES ARIES
As everything has transformed in a moment’s notice everywhere in our world, thoughts of resources, values, money and possessions, care for others, becomes the focus. You ponder on how to be creative, how to “make all things new” and how to assure your financial future. You are not afraid but you know the future of the world is in question. You also know previous plans and agendas no longer apply.
TAURUS There is a deep purposeful need to recreate all aspects of your life, including making yourself anew. Look at and assess your self-esteem, body image, question your health and availability (“are you or are you not able to surge forward to secure the future?). You feel the fire of aspiration to have an environment in which you can use your intuitive power and purposeful use of Will. You will lead, everyone follows (except a few).
GEMINI You have many thoughts and many unusual dreams about someone from the past. Your dreams also demonstrate a new life path is needed. At first the dreams are opaque but then you realize the dreams are the Waters of Life calling you to be in a community where spirituality is the focus, purity is the rule and liberation the path, which is the pathway of the Server. CANCER I have often written the words, “contact releases Love.” This is especially important for the moon child now and in the coming months. Groups, communities, friends assist you in acquiring a greater sense of self-worth and identity, in recognizing your gifts and abilities. It’s best to be in small groups or one-onone encounters. What groups would you like to belong to? Who are your friends?
LEO You are accomplished in the world of form and matter. Your sense of identity and pride in yourself have helped you succeed in being a bright star of a leader. Now you begin a new cycle, several actually, where you move ahead with new agendas and public recognition. Remember, as a leader, to lead with love. And remember, the first test for leaders is pride. Hold yours intact. Have pride in others, first.
VIRGO Things far away interest you, especially now. Things metaphysical, having to do with justice, liberty, libraries, journeys and places of study are significant to you. You want to enrich your mind, broaden your knowledge base, create new ways of thinking that create a new future life. Hints as to how to proceed are in the visions you’re having.
LIBRA Look at all expenses especially those shared with others. Attempt to lessen the outlay for a while. Pay off loans and debts as soon as possible. There are hidden expenses you might be unaware of. Become more conscious of your finances, creating a monthly financial plan that includes planning for unexpected expenses. In some ways your life a secret. Is it hidden from those close to you? There’s a longing within your heart. What is it?
Tend to someone close by.
CAPRICORN A great depth of creativity will emerge from you in the coming times and this continues for a long time to come. There is spontaneity of spirit at the root of your creativity and a deep aspiration to have fun, to play, to be light and free and to share this with others. You have moved from the crystal form to a diamond. Your imagination, originality, inspiration and ingenuity shine as bright as a star.
SCORPIO You can be the most stable of signs when it comes to partnerships and relationships. However, sometimes you’re hidden from your partner. Scorpios need a long time in order to trust another. But when trust does come, you are theirs forever. Partnerships are a fragile balancing act. Partnerships heal and sustain and transform. You realize you always must “do your part,” impeccably.

AQUARIUS You sense the need for a new foundation, perhaps a home or a new awareness of self. You are very creative. The art that you create is a foundation of identity. However, you also must have solid things in form and matter. Although you are an air sign, it would be good to begin a garden. It would ground and stabilize you. Begin with several basil and tomato plants, oregano, parsley and dill. And marigolds.

Child Advocates Press for Better Telehealth Program as Legislature Reconvenes By Desert Star Staff SACRAMENO, Calif. -The Legislature reconvenes this week, and children’s advocates are speaking out in favor of a bill to facilitate telehealth during
the COVID-19 recovery. AB 2007 would continue a federal policy instituted in response to the pandemic that lifted some restrictions limiting community clinics’ efforts to offer medical appointments
via phone or videoconference. Mayra Alvarez, president of the Children’s Partnership, said telehealth will allow more people to be treated. “By putting that in place, these necessary flexibilities,
we can ensure that more families have access to the care that they need, when they need it,” Alvarez said. She noted that virtual medical appointments can address barriers to care, drawing in people who live in rural areas, have limited access to transportation or who can’t take time off of work. The State Assembly reconvenes Monday, and the state Senate will hold a special COVID-related session on Wednesday. Alvarez also has urged lawmakers to implement AB 2315, which would improve telehealth in schools, so mental-health issues can
be more readily addressed once schools reopen. “The social-emotional impacts of not being at school every day, of not interacting with friends, of being worried about your parents if they are essential workers - this is going to be an ongoing crisis for us,” she said. The bill requires state agencies to develop guidelines around telehealth for schools. It passed in 2018 but has not been fully funded. Korean Film ‘Parasite’ Makes Oscar History
This year the South Korean film “Parasite” made Oscar history by being the first foreign-language film to ever win the best picture Oscar in two categories--foreign and domestic. In doing so, it knocked “Marriage Story,” “JoJo Rabbit,” “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” “The
Irishman,” “Little Women,” “Ford vs. Ferrari,” “1917” and “Joker” out of the running for Oscar gold. That doesn’t seem quite fair to me, but why should the Motion Picture Academy care about my opinion? That being said, it doesn’t mean that “Parasite” isn’t an exciting and disturbing film fiction by
Korean director Bong Joon-ho who won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival as well. The film “Parasite” is a tale of two families. One is rich, the other poor. As the story begins, we meet the poor family first. They live in a shabby apartment below street level. The daughter Kim
Ki-Jung (Park So-dam) has a job folding pizza boxes, and her older brother Ki-woo (Choi Woo-Sik) is a clever young man who never completed his college education. This day he is visited by an old school chum who asks Ki-woo if he would like to take over his job as a private tutor. Ki-woo accepts, and thanks to his sister, who is a wiz on the computer, a college diploma is printed out. In no time the entire family lands a job in the wealthy Park Dong-ik household. Kiwoo will tutor the daughter, and his sister will be hired as an art therapist for their young son Da-song. Soon their mother will replace the housekeeper, and their dad will become the family’s driver. Things go well for Ki-woo’s family--until they don’t. It turns out that Da-song keeps in touch with the former housekeeper, so she knows what is going on with his parents. One night while they are away, the housekeeper returns, and at that point, all
By Desert Star Staff TROY, Mich., - Even during these unprecedented times, drowning prevention remains a top priority, as more than 70 percent of childhood drowning incidents occur at home. This is why Goldfish Swim School, the leading premier learnto-swim franchise concept, is kicking off National Water Safety Month (May) with the launch of ‘Goldfish At Home’ to provide free, virtual dryland swim lessons to families nationwide, along with a variety of online and interactive water-safety focused initiatives and activities. Goldfish aims to make a splash by virtually uniting communities across the globe while spreading the important message of water safety awareness. As drowning remains the number one cause of unintentional injury-related death among children ages 1 to 4, taking the lives of three children in the United States every day, Goldfish Swim School remains committed to making a positive impact to help lower these staggering statistics. With the support of franchise owners across the system, brand ambassador and three-time Olympic Gold Medalist Ryan Murphy, and Founder of Water Guardians: Levi’s Legacy - Nicole Hughes, the brand is rolling out a variety of fun and engaging virtual initiatives that bring communities together in the name of
water safety awareness. Virtual Storytime With Bubbles – On Wednesday, May 13, at 12 p.m. ET, Goldfish Swim School brand mascot Bubbles will be hosting a special storytime reading via Facebook Live, premiering his newly animated book while sharing how he learned to swim. Waves for Water Safety – On International Water Safety Day, May 15, Goldfish Swim School is challenging its social media followers and beyond to update their Facebook and Instagram profile pictures to reflect Water Safety Waves to bring greater awareness to the importance of water safety and drowning prevention. Live Water Safety Q&A – Hosted via Goldfish Swim School’s Instagram Live on Wednesday, May 20 at 12 p.m. ET, Goldfish Swim School CoFounder Jenny McCuiston, and Nicole Hughes, who tragically lost her son Levi to a drowning incident in 2018, will join forces to provide parents and their children water safety education. Those who tune-in will have the chance to ask real-time questions and hear from two mothers who have dedicated their lives to water safety. ‘Recess with Ryan’ – Every Monday at 3 p.m. ET, three-time Olympic Swimming Gold Medalist Ryan Murphy is hosting an interactive social media series via Facebook Live where kids can participate in a water safety exercise challenge
while Murphy provides inspiration, answers real-time questions, and virtually interacts with families across the nation. Those who participate and complete the exercise challenge are entered to win prizes from Goldfish Swim School, the USA Swimming Foundation and more! “Even while our schools are closed, we know there is still so much we can do to ensure more children learn the importance of water safety,” said Chris McCuiston, CEO & Co-Founder of Goldfish Swim School. “As stay-at-home orders continue to extend and social distancing becomes the new norm, we have been working to debut creative ways to connect our communities and stay true to our mission of educating children on water safety while teaching
them how to be safer in and around the water. It is our hope all these virtual initiatives help make a true impact.” To help families adjust to new lifestyles amid the pandemic, Goldfish Swim School has rolled out various at-home activities, like coloring sheets and memory games, for parents to download and enjoy with their kids, along with fun play-time ideas such as practicing swim technique in the bathtub. Additionally, with the majority of school districts having adjusted to virtual platforms, Goldfish Swim School is now offering its free W.A.T.E.R. Safety Presentations virtually. Deadline Looms for Public Comments on EPA’s Transparency Rule By Desert Star Staff Time is running out for public comments on a proposed Environmental Protection Agency rule change that would block the agency from considering scientific studies that don’t make their data publicly available. Opponents argue that environmental data often includes personal information about patients, and say it’s standard practice to keep citizens’ medical information confidential. Rachel McIntoshKastrinsky, program manager of Medical Advocates for Healthy Air with Clean Air Carolina, maintains these types of rule changes should be postponed until COVID-19 is less of a crisis. She points out that the EPA last month rejected scientists’ recommendation to reduce the amount of fine particulate matter allowed in the air. www.desertstarweekly.com
“The EPA is moving forward on this transparency rule, on this PM 2.5 standard, during the middle of a pandemic, when health professionals -- whether they’re scientists on the front line trying to develop these tests, or whether they’re literally doctors and nurses that are in clinics and in hospital right now treating people -- do not have the capacity to comment on these rules,” she states. The deadline for public comments on the rule is May 18, but McIntosh-Kastrinsky says the country’s medical professionals and scientists are too busy fighting the coronavirus pandemic to properly weigh in. Andrew Wheeler, the EPA administrator, says the rule is needed to boost scientific transparency. So far, more than 31,000 comments have been submitted. Research suggests exposure to air pollution over time can contribute to the development of serious lung conditions. breathing in polluted air. “The airway can narrow, and it also starts spasming,” she explains. “When that airway gets narrowed, they cannot get air in, they cannot get air out; they literally cannot breathe. Air pollution can trigger an
asthma attack. Air pollution can trigger a COPD exacerbation.” The EPA also has stopped enforcing environmental regulations, citing concerns over the coronavirus pandemic. It remains unclear when enforcement will resume.

5 Tips for Bringing a New Pet Home periodically through a glass window to get used to sharing the space. Allowing your pets to play with each other’s toys can also create familiarity with their new housemate’s scent.
Photo courtesy of Getty Images By Desert Star Staff Bringing a pet home for the first time – even if you already have other pets – can be an exciting moment. However, it’s important to involve the whole family in discussing whether your family will foster or adopt, and what each family member’s responsibilities with the new pet will be. It also takes preparation and patience to ensure a smooth transition. Regardless of the type of companion you’re welcoming into your home, adjusting to

Also create a pet-friendly space with a bed or another way to divert attention, such as a scratching post for cats.

Plan time for daily walks, solo playtime and trips to the park or backyard to play fetch. Tribes Sue for CARES Act Funds, Press Treasury to Act
Yurok Health and Human Services staff members Courtney Mattz and Cassandra Charles assemble weekly food boxes. (Matt Mais/Yurok Tribe) By Desert Star Staff SACRAMENTO, Calif. --
Two California Native American Tribes, the Yurok and the Agua
Caliente, are part of a new multi-tribe lawsuit to force the
U.S. Treasury to disperse $8 billion earmarked for Indian Country in the CARES Act. The funds have been held up by another lawsuit challenging whether Alaska Native corporations, which are not federally recognized tribes, should get part of the money. Yurok Tribe chairman Joseph L. James said COVID-19 is putting a huge strain on tribal budgets. “We are fronting money that we don’t have,” James said. “We closed our economic businesses -- our hotel, our casino. So, we’re taking a hit just like everybody else across America.” On Friday, a judge in the Alaska Native lawsuit ruled the funds should be disbursed. But the Treasury said in a status report that it hasn’t yet determined how
to allocate the money. James said the Yurok tribe has closed the reservation to visitors to protect its rural population, which includes many older members with preexisting conditions. The tribe is distributing food and has temporarily waived many of its members’ household bills. “For our membership, we waived our monthly water bills, our internet, our loans. We waived those for the months of April and May,” he said. “Our Yurok Indian Housing Authority waived the rent. So, it’s really ‘all hands on deck’ for us.” According to a recent study from UCLA and The University of Arizona, the rate of COVID-19 per 1,000 people is four times higher on Indian reservations compared with other parts of the country.
HHS Asked to Rescind End-of-Life Directive Waiver By Desert Star Staff NEW YORK - Advocates for end-of-life care options have written a letter asking the federal Health and Human Services Secretary to reverse a waiver of a federal law that requires patients to be informed of their right to refuse treatment. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services issued the waiver last week. According to Kim Callinan, president and CEO of the organization Compassion and Choices, research shows that when given the option, about 80% of seriously ill patients will refuse invasive medical procedures. But with the waiver in effect, fewer people will be asked. “It’s going to make health-care providers ration care for their patients rather than empowering patients to make decisions,” says Callinan, “and allowing their decisions to be paramount
in end-of-life planning.” She strongly recommends that everyone fill out the state form specifying advance directives for end-of-life care. The forms are available online at compassionandchoices.org. Corrine Carey is senior campaign director for Compassion and Choices in New York and New Jersey. A few days ago, both she and her husband tested positive for COVID-19. She says that has raised the level of discussion about end-of-life planning in her household. “For myself, for my family, it’s really important that you know what your loved ones want,” says Carey, “and what level of care you want should you be facing a health-care crisis.” To accommodate socialdistancing restrictions, Gov. Andrew Cuomo has signed an executive order easing
regulations for documents including end-of-life directives. Callinan notes that the letter sent to HHS Secretary Alex Azar this week encourages him and Congress to take actions that will benefit both patients
and health-care providers. “Reinstate the Patient SelfDetermination Act requirement,” says Callinan, “and instead, take some very specific actions that will result in much more widespread adoption
of advance-care planning.” She contends that advance directives give providers muchneeded guidance, especially when hospital resources are strained by a health crisis such as the COVID-19 pandemic.
By Desert Star Staff In his rush to accuse Beijing of unleashing the scourge of Covid-19 on an unsuspecting world, the US Secretary of State said the coronavirus was man-made, before making a U-turn without even blinking. “The best experts so far seem to think it was man-
made. I don’t have reason to disbelieve them at this point,” Mike Pompeo told ABC’s ‘This Week’ when asked about a statement from the US intelligence community that unequivocally said the opposite. Host Martha Raddatz twice asked Pompeo to clarify whether his view differed from
that of American intelligence, and he voiced his total support for the spies – though he stopped short of actually saying “I don’t believe the virus was man-made.” Pompeo used his airtime to once again accuse China of covering up the severity of Covid-19 in the early days of the outbreak. “The Chinese
Communist Party had the opportunity to prevent all the calamity that has befallen the world,” he claimed. “The Australians agree with that, you hear that the Europeans are beginning to say the same thing. I think the whole world is united [in its] understanding that China brought this virus to the world.”
The US diplomat claimed there was “enormous evidence” to support the US government’s accusations that the outbreak started with a leak at a lab in Wuhan, but he said he could not answer the question of whether it was done accidentally or intentionally.
