Cabot’s Museum Tours

A whole new experience begins December 1st By Desert Star Staff Desert Hot Springs - More than 70 years ago Cabot Yerxa started building his Pueblo as a tourist attraction. People coming to the Coachella Valley were told to see the self-described DesertRat up on Miracle Hill because he told the best stories and had the most unique items for sale in his Trading Post. For the price of an admission ticket guests were taken inside and told stories of ever-changing life in the Valley. Beginning December 1, 2014, visitors can take the new Cabot’s Pueblo Museum Signature Tour

– a new experience that includes seeing rooms not previously open to the public as well as incredible new insights into the man many believe is responsible for putting the Coachella Valley on the map. Few have left as indelible a legacy in the Coachella Valley as Cabot Yerxa. He discovered the mineral springs. He was a friend to the Native Americans in the area. He was the first sustainable builder using only reclaimed, recycled or reused materials in the construction of his 5,000 square foot pueblo. He believed in helping his neighbors and strangers alike.

He brought Hollywood celebrities to the desert. He helped layout – and build - the streets of Desert Hot Springs. And so much more. At 15 he started traveling the world, but Cabot the adventurerhumanitarian made the Coachella Valley his home. And it is the lovely place to live and tourist destination it is today because he did. Cabot’s Pueblo Museum is open, and the Signature Tour, offered Tuesday through Sundays, 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Admission is $9-$11. Group tours available.
