Photo by Pat Krause Story and Photos by Pat Krause The Desert Cancer Foundation held its 13th annual Paint El Paseo Pink on Saturday, Oct. 12th. Well over 2000 people walked to fight breast cancer. Registration started at 7am and the walk began at 8am. The event
started in the street across the Gardens on El Paseo. Several hundred people took part in a fun event where they followed an instructor on stage dancing to YMCA and other upbeat tunes. This got everyone in the mood for the walk. Men, women, and children all took
part where laughter and camaraderie were the norms. Many others watched from the sidelines also danced with them because it was just pure fun. The city blocked off El Paseo just for this particular walk. Pink t-shirts were everywhere. Several women
wore gray t-shirts that read, Flat is the New Pink, for women who have survived breast cancer and opted not to have breast reconstruction. One woman was proud to show her surgery scars buy covering them with a beautiful floral design tattoo. I saw a lot of
mothers that brought young children in strollers and other young children to make the walk. Men were also prominent during the walk to support this great cause. I talked with local baseball great Steve Garvey, Continues on Page 2
