“Conversation on Art”
Tools For Tomorrow event features artists Karen and Tony Barone By Desert Star Staff On October 22, Tools For Tomorrow (TFT) will present “A Conversation on Art, Love and Life with Karen and Tony Barone” at The Ritz-Carlton, Rancho Mirage, from 4-7 p.m.
The cocktail reception on the terrace will be transformed by a spectacular installation of Barone sculptures, music by international acoustic band Faults of Andreas and a silent auction offering Swarovski
crystal jewelry, purses and men’s luxury accessories. Following the reception, the renowned Barones will be interviewed by radio personalities jimi FITZ and Wendy Jane in the ballroom.
The event will benefit TFT’s arts literacy program in Coachella Valley elementary schools. The legendary Barone couple work side-by-side on their large-scale sculptures and paintings. Their interview

Cyprus, the Island of Love
By Anthony Grant Cyprus is the third-largest island in the Mediterranean Sea. The island’s historical roots — Greek, Venetian, Roman and even more — run millennia deep, making it a mosaic of cultures with dramatic landscapes studded with vineyards, castles and monasteries, some in a state of beautiful ruin. It’s an allseason island, meaning that, unlike Mykonos or Santorini, lots are going on whether you visit in the middle of winter or the height of summer. Of course, the Cypriot autumn is still warm, and when the crowds of European package tourists thin out, you’ll get more beach real estate to yourself. But chances are you’ll want to make time for more than just your suntan when visiting the true cultural crossroads of the eastern Mediterranean. Here are five things to keep in mind and help you make the most of your trip to this fascinating island. 1. Cyprus Was the
Crossroads of the World Cyprus has been the crossroads of many civilizations, from neolithic to Phoenician to ancient Greek, Roman and beyond. The discovery of copper between 3900 BC and 2500 BC was hugely important. The fact that the island was on the way to just about everywhere was an essential staging ground before the invasion of Jerusalem during the Crusades, for example. As a result, archaeological sites literally litter the island. By 325 BC, Alexander the Great had come and gone, and the Ptolemies of Egypt were in control. Paphos was their capital, and the necropolis is known as the Tombs of the Kings, carved out of rock and graced with Doric columns and frescoes, bears witness to this chapter of Cypriot history. 2. The World’s Most Dramatic Greco-Roman Theater Is Here Kourion was one of the island’s most important city-
states in antiquity. Still, a severe earthquake in 365 AD took it permanently out of commission — the clifftop Greco-Roman amphitheater faced the Mediterranean and was built in the second century. An alfresco performance space extraordinaire, it’s still used today. East of the theater, you can explore the ruins and fifthcentury mosaics of the House of Eustolios, which was initially a private villa but was transformed into a public bathhouse in the early Christian period. There’s a beach down below, but the Sanctuary of Apollo Hylates, just up the road, also beckons. 3. The World’s Oldest Wine Is Cypriot The world’s oldest named wine is Cypriot: Originally called mana — the Greek word for “mother” — and referenced by Greek poets in 800 BC, the sweet red was christened commandaria during the Crusades after the headquarters of the Knights Templar, and the name stuck.
It’s made from sun-dried grapes that grow in vineyards on the southern foothills of the Troodos Mountains, not far from the port city of Limassol (Lemesos in Greek), where the Cyprus Wine Company, or KEO, is based. While commandaria is a dessert wine, there are great wines of many varietals throughout the island, and it’s fun to visit the small wineries in the Troodos or the equally scenic hilly areas behind Paphos.
at the edge of the peninsula feels more remote than it actually is: Anassa calls itself “the ultimate Mediterranean retreat,” and with its beachchic suites, swaying cypress trees, solid range of restaurants and Thalassa Spa, it’s an apt description. Visit anassa.com.

In addition, Karen noted, “Families and individuals can drive to each piece at their leisure. Art feeds the soul, and these fun sculptures are the best elixir for these unique times.” The Barones believe that art is a powerful force for good, and philanthropy is interwoven into their projects. They have long been advocates of private sector support and funding of art in public places. The married duo enlists private sector entities to support artworks gifted to children’s museums and hospitals, animal shelters, and fire stations as part of their ArtAdoption Program. They have successfully implemented this concept throughout the Coachella Valley and around the world. “An ultimate goal for us as artists is to share our creativity while spreading as much enjoyment and happiness
as possible,” said Tony. The Barones have received many philanthropy awards, including the Barbara Sinatra Distinguished Citizen (2017), Desert Arc’s Champions of Change (2019) and Palm Springs Unified School District’s Shiny Apple Award (2013). In addition, each year, they create TFT’s Vision for the Future Awards sculpture. Tools For Tomorrow’s chair for the event, Claire Smith, exclaimed, “We are so grateful to Karen and Tony Barone for their support of TFT’s free afterschool program of art, creative writing, music and drama in elementary schools throughout the Valley. Also, we are grateful to our wine sponsors Linda and Manny Rider, for underwriting the bubbly October 22. “ To become a sponsor or buy $125 tickets for “A Conversation on Art, Love and Life with Karen and Tony Barone,” visit toolsfortomorrow. org or call 760-601-3954. Amazon Wades Deeper into Wearables By Desert Star Staff Big tech companies and incumbent startups alike are becoming increasingly infatuated with wearable technologies — namely wrist-worn trackers. On Tuesday, Amazon announced a plethora of new products and features related to its health and fitness services, including: • Halo Fitness, an interactive home workout service similar to Apple Fitness+ • Halo Nutrition, a highly personalized meal planning service • Halo View, a new wearable device with a screen akin to the Apple Watch The Amazon reveal

comes on the heels of Apple announcing a partnership with UnitedHealthcare, Fitbit releasing the Charge 5 wearable, and Whoop launching its Whoop 4.0 after a $200 million capital raise at a $3.6 billion valuation. Connected fitness and trackable biometric data are in high demand. According to Pitchbook, in 2021 alone, funding for wearables and the “quantified self” has already reached the $2.9 billion mark, with more than 260 companies receiving funding. • Apple announced at its WWDC that iOS 15 would allow users to share health data with family members and physicians seamlessly. • Whoop was adopted as the PGA Tour’s official wearable due partly to its ability to detect the presence of COVID through changes in respiratory rate. • Oura Ring was selected as the NBA’s official wearable during the Bubble for similar health-related reasons. We continue to see legitimate health applications for these consumer devices as health data moves “upstream” in the doctorpatient relationship and simplified regulations on telemedicine integrations. The Healthcare Perspective What about the $12 trillion elephant in the room? That’s right, healthcare. Big tech, healthcare, and fitness are on a collision course as companies like

infrastructure to integrate with healthcare is in place; they have user trust with data privacy and a public mandate to disrupt the space. • Amazon has the least amount of time in the market with its Halo product. However, the company has already made inroads into the healthcare sector with its $750 million acquisition of drug delivery service Pillpack in 2018. In addition, the Prime ecosystem and Alexa as a pseudo physician assistant could also potentially lead to a closed-loop healthcare ecosystem for Prime users. • Facebook has yet to release its planned wearable device, and one glaring issue stands in the way of its aspirations: privacy concerns. In addition,
Facebook has eroded trust with users, which will likely make adoption a difficult sell. • Peloton reportedly has its wearable fitness device coming — not a surprise after it acquired Atlas Wearables for an undisclosed amount earlier this year. • While Whoop doesn’t have nearly the same level of resources, capital, or infrastructure as its larger tech competitors, they’ve been pioneers in the hardware space. Unfortunately, the $200 million injections of capital seem to have been earmarked for further innovation in performance instead of penetrating healthcare. COPD and the Workplace: Know Your Risks and Take Action

Apple, Facebook, and Amazon introduce products and partnerships that integrate health and wellness into their ecosystems. These partnerships and initiatives, however, are nothing without hardware. To penetrate the healthcare market, tech companies need hardware that performs up to the standard of medical-grade devices. How are the various players in the space fairing in that battle? Let’s take a look: • Google’s $2.1 billion Fitbit acquisition has yielded less than stellar results. The company also partnered with Samsung to bolster its Wear OS, and the results have been equally tepid. • Apple currently owns over one-third of the global smartwatch market. The

You will be called to teamwork, perhaps by competitors and possibly by those you consider as enemies. Don’t fret or fuss. Libra Sun, your opposite sign in your relationship house, is about bringing Right Human Relations, balance, and fairness to all interactions. You can initiate this though your intentions and will(ingness) for harmony. This will enhance your public image, create new alliances, affect your environments (inner and outer) and friendships and release love all around.
TAURUS It’s time to seriously consider another regime of health, wellness, exercise, and proper eating – very necessary at this time to vitalize your energy system and adrenals. For some a vegetarian diet may be needed. For some, steaks, rare. For some shots of whiskey at night. The emphasis now and primarily needs to be on service to self. Everyone around you, including your pets, will be reflecting your health issue. Remember to use cell salts, cell sats, homeopathics and all the therapeutics we have been hearing about.
GEMINI What are your favorite activities? What are your hobbies and what do you do for fun? What types of books are you reading now? Have these changed in the past several years? Who loves you, where and how do you find freedom, and are

there any children in your life? All of these questions need thoughtful reflection in this Mercury retrograde so you can, with eyes wide open, choose a balancing of Gemini’s polarities and dualites. Do you know the difference?
CANCER It seems your property, what you own and/or where you live, may be in a state of repair, reassessment, reorientation, and transformation. At some point, emerging from your inner rooms you might consider creating a “garden room”, a “Temple beautiful”, along with a garden gate. Perhaps it’s also time for a greenhouse, new pathways and an uncluttered home office. Where and what is your community these days?
LEO It’s a good time to make contact by writing cards and letters, the old-fashioned way. Perhaps Halloween post cards. It’s also good to contact family, siblings, old friends and renew relationships, many of which may have been cast aside due to excess hibernation, inner work, intense grief, or a general antipathy toward relationships. Visiting forests and glens builds a relationship with the most harmonious of kingdoms. The safest relationship is with the plant kingdom. Chat with the devas at sunrise and sunset and before sleep.
VIRGO Perhaps it’s time for a resale sale, or maybe a new look at your valuable possessions.
Assessing your resources with new eyes provides insight into what your true values may be. Have they changed in the past twenty years? Acknowledging what you value revitalizes your identity and is a clue to which path to choose, which could change after the retrograde. Mercury retrograde always affects Virgo and Gemini the most. How is it affecting you, Virgo?
LIBRA Libras are cardinal signs that initiate new realities. They are often reluctant leaders. Do not be afraid of or shy away from leadership. But do be aware of leadership’s dangerous path. The first temptation in leadership is using power over others. Understand that others look at leaders through the lens of their own experiences, expectations, wounds, needs, projections and what they learned in childhood This is not comfortable. Only the courageous can lead. Begin creating new projects that will overflow into the next year. Something’s almost over. And something “wicked” is soon coming.
SCORPIO Visit the ill, the sick, the hospitalized, the shut away, the sad, the lonely, the lost and the limited. I visited with my brother the other day. He has Alzheimer’s. Although they say he has no mind left. I know he “saw” and heard me. When visiting those in need, connect with them heart to heart, soul to soul. And bring along some music. This act of
charity will reorient your heart towards kindness and spiritual values. Tithe, be charitable, ask forgiveness for past omissions, and seek work that heals humanity. Discipleship tasks.
SAGITTARIUS Juno and the South Node are presently in Sagittarius. Juno brings one empowerment or disempowerment. The south node offers us all the talents and gifts from past lives. Perform tasks that empower you and help others empower themselves. Are there several social situations you are unconsciously maintaining? Are they valuable and useful at this time and for the new era? You benefit when telling others your far-reaching life goals. How is your financial situation? Things are attempting to balance this month. Help it along.
CAPRICORN You are presenting yourself to the world along with your talents and gifts. This creates new business ideas and goals and newer ways to handle a possible new career. Review your past work and know that it is good. Know also that you can summon all gifts from past lives into your present, applying them efficiently and effectively to your present needs. Ask also that they provide you with a clear sense of direction. Ponder on possible plans and goals and patronage. You will be recognized and honored.
Include things educational, professional, spiritual and philosophical. Whether you believe in this or not, do it anyway, for it outlines your life’s needs and provides you with a contemplative view of your goals. Should you take this life task seriously, writing thoughts down, it’s possible that everything will come to pass. Write daily your hopes, wishes and dreams. Speak with the devas about these things. Their task is to help us manifest. They are the builders of form and matter.
PISCES Continue to eliminate debt and continue saving. Use cash when possible and invest in gold and silver and if possible land. Think about creating that community. Its need is immanent. Do all things with the thought of building the new era in the form of a refuge, monastery, mountain and forest retreat. Store up food, supplies and living essentials. This is most important now and will, in the next few months, become a resource. There are several very important items you must purchase for communal use. Manifest them. Conserve all spending as you conserve your energy. A new talent arises. Why Our Current Fiscal Crisis Is the Worst in U.S. History By Janice Gough The very fact that nearly everyone in government is shouting dire warnings at the top of their lungs is the best indicator that an outright debt default is unlikely. But the mere fact that a U.S. government default is the subject of serious debate is, in itself, a horror story. In response, Treasury bond prices plunged as their yields jumped. The Dow Jones Industrials sank more than 1,000 points in just a few days. But Bitcoin surged by about $4,000 … and then exploded higher by another $3,000 on Friday. So what is this telling us about the future of America and the changes to come about? It may be a sneak preview of the actual crisis unfolding before our eyes. It could be compared to a metastasizing cancer of debt that could tear apart our society’s very fabric. I am not a theorist. I am a realist, with always the idea that I may help you come out on top! We have a desperate Federal Reserve with no recourse other than high-speed money printing presses, placating our shores with the stimulus of every kind. Paralleling a near-bankrupt government paralyzed by exploding deficits and internal strife. All moving in one direction, which may signal the decline
and fall of the American Empire. This doesn’t mean the end of our country per se, but even when the immediate crisis is resolved, America’s status as the leader of the free world and global economy will remain in grave danger. The debt ceiling is not the source of the problem. Nor will any decision by Congress to raise it, abolish it, or just postpone the decision in some way to make or break the economy. Inflation, a collapse in the dollar, and a massive flight to alternatives will be virtually unavoidable. How will this crisis impact the U.S. economy and financial markets? We need to go no further than the grocery store or other supply markets to get that answer. People no longer trust the government. The Fed’s only plan is their printing press. The Fed has been de-basing our money for over 40 years, until the point of no return. With the billions flowing into Crypto every day, investors look to hold on to their wealth by investing in Crypto at this pivotal change in our lives. Will Bitcoin plunge or surge? Whenever Bitcoin has dropped in value, it comes on news of some Governing party who wants to regulate it, redefine the asset as security and tax it. Many people feel that cryptocurrency is too hard for them to understand. But simply put, it is an electronic currency that can be used, just
as our dollar is used today. We trust our credit card companies to add or subtract payments in our credit card account or Bank ledger. This is no different than using Bitcoin or Ethereum to record all transactions we make. These coins are comprised of an electronic chain of intelligent contracts, which is a computer program or a transaction protocol that is intended to automatically execute, control or document legally relevant events and actions according to the terms of a contract or agreement. I, at one time, wondered what a crypto coin looked like. Instead, it is merely the most prominent computer in the world. Change is always challenging to embrace. However, I will be holding classes to help anyone learn. We must educate everyone who owns the dollar in an account. Change, under the circumstances, is inevitable; just as in the past when we changed currency, the government can change the rules anytime. However, they have no control over Defi currency, which means that it is not associated with any banking or government control. The Fed. would most likely change to a Stable coin. USStableCoin is equivalent to $1 US. In the crypto world, those are referred to as Miners. They are computer geniuses using encrypted coding and artificial
intelligence to make the blocks in the chain to record and store information. This is where your ledger of transactions resides. The programs inside the block consist of Smart contracts, similar to a computer program that would record your Bank transactions. Once a miner completes a block, they must be verified that the programs are a completed and a certified correct application; this is referred to as Proof of Work. The Miners then get paid a commission for the completed block. A smart contract is a self-executing contract with the terms of the agreement between buyer and seller being directly written into lines of code. The code and the agreements contained therein exist across a distributed, decentralized (DeFi) blockchain network. The codes control the execution, and transactions are always trackable and irreversible. Just as a bank assigns account numbers, where you view transactions, a Block where your recorded transactions have their own address code. By using the code, you can spend your Bitcoin asset, just as you spend cash currently. As a result, Crypto is being accepted by more and more companies who transact money, such as PayPal. and banks worldwide. Smart contracts permit trusted transactions and agreements to be carried out
among disparate, anonymous parties without needing a central authority, legal system, or external enforcement mechanism. While blockchain technology has come to be thought of primarily as the foundation for bitcoin, it has evolved far beyond underpinning the virtual currency. Anything can be Crypto sized. Art, Music, and collectibles are currently popular investments. A crypto art recently sold for $2,5 billion. Smart contracts render transactions traceable, transparent, and irreversible. There are over 12,000 crypto coins. Understanding the various functions they control can diversify their investments, just as one does with stock. For example, an American exchange CoinBase, increased stock value in Six months, from $40Billion to over$50 Billion. Coinbase is also firmly profitable, and it trades at just over 50 times earnings. Learning more about purchasing, analyzing, and holding Crypto in a safe wallet is the best way to get comfortable using it. You could just save your cash accumulation from being taken by the government in some way. Contact us at Gough Ins. & Financial Svcs. 760) 251-7724 or Cell (650)200-8291 or our office 1111 E. HOAs Can Meet Purely Virtually During Emergency

“Scenes From A Marriage” Movie Version Draws Mixed Reviews
By Jack Lyons Theatre and Film Critic Member American Theatre Critics Association (ATCA) Member Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (ATAS) When it comes to original stories made into movies and TV films, about the subject of love and marriage, one would be hard pressed to ignore the angst-filled dramas of the great Swedish filmmaker and writerdirector Ingmar Bergman. Bergman brought to the screen his series of realitybased films about the lives of Scandinavian marriages to insulated uninformed American audiences that didn’t like the feel of foreign films due to their annoying and off-putting subtitles. Most Americans thought Sweden, Norway, Finland, and Denmark were countries where people were tall, blonde, sexy, and were countries filled with lots of snow and ice during the winter months that made for great skiing and skating but also made for boring weeks where the sun was rarely seen. Actually, there was a lot more happening in their marriages than we realized. After all, sex is universally practiced and so is its appeal. Israeli filmmaker Hagai Levi decided he wanted to do a more modern updated version of Ingmar Bergman’s 1973 seminal film of “Scenes from a Marriage” that originally starred Liv Ullman, Erland Joseph, Bibi Andersson, Jan Malmsjo, and Gunnel Lindblom. Writer, adaptor/director, Levi, however, trimmed several characters for his 2021 version. The film cast now features Jessica Chastain as Mira, Oscar Isaac as Jonathan, Nicole Beharie as Kate, and Corey Stoll as Peter, as their married friends, and Sophia Kopera as Ava, Mira and Jonathan’s three year-old daughter. The eponymous 2021 movie version currently streaming on HBO platforms, stars the always fiercely bold and exciting actor Jessica

Chastain as Mira a shallow, narcissistic, young mother and wife married to Oscar Isaac as Jonathan, a Philosophy college professor who rarely challenges Mira when messy home life and workplace confrontations occur. He prefers the rational approach much like that of a Talmudic scholar in discussions with the ambivalent passive/ aggressive Mira. We meet them nearing the end of their marital bliss days that now turn into thoughts of separation on Mira’s part. This is the tipping point in their marriage where the rubber will soon be meeting the road of reality. Their marital life is tedious, and slowly paced and is loaded with dialogue that strains one’s credulity and authenticity. For starters, where is Mira’s concern for how she and Jonathan’s actions will forever affect their daughter Ava, portrayed by Sophia Kopera.? Jonathan is shell-shocked by Mira’s decisions and her unreal attitude of being a parent and mother. He pleads with her to talk things over. “We can work this out with therapists. Let’s discuss this.” But Mira demurs. Her mind is already made up. I seriously doubt that many female viewers will embrace the behavior of Mira. And, yes, the film is not all “strurm and drang”. There are many moments of aching poignancy in Levi’s script about the ups and downs of married life that affect everyone in the film and as well as in real life. If one had to choose a character in this story to root for, I suspect it would be Jonathan based on his fatherly love and deep concern for Ava’s future. Screenwriter/ director Levi leaves such ‘rooting’ decisions up to his audience when it comes to choosing one parent over the other. Regardless, their marriage has all the elements of an impending train wreck right from the get go., but it is not the screaming, drunken, bombastic sort depicted in Edward Albee’s “Who’s Afraid
of Virginia Woolf”, but it’s close enough on an intellectual level to claim a ‘civilized’ kinship. Most of the dialogue scenes are delivered in hushed and whispered tones - so make sure seniors are wearing their hearing aids while watching. I get the ‘stylistic’ decision that signals intimacy, and as such, demands that the love scenes be spoken in tones that are low and slowly delivered for maximum effect however, employing that directorial crutch only heightens the glacial pacing even more. But, no more spoiler alerts here. A final note: the film has strong language and may not be suitable for young viewers. The excesses of our 21st century liberated society I

suspect influenced this 2021 Levi rewritten adaptation of ”Scenes From a Marriage”, which resulted in receiving mixed reviews. The actors after all, are working to execute the writer/director’s vision. This they did in highly nuanced performances. The talents of Nicole Beharie and Corey Stoll, however, are wasted here. One could make a case for the ubiquitous prop of Red and White wine consumed by all, save Ava, has the largest on screen time in the film. That shouldn’t happen unless you’re watching the film “The Lost Weekend” a film about alcoholism that won an Oscar for Ray Milland. With respect to the actors who had nothing to do with the flaws inherent in
the script, Jessica Chastain and Oscar Isaac are gifted actors and it’s a joy to watch their riveting performances. Isaac’s “Ex Machina” a film about artificial Intelligence and Chastain’s performance” in “Zero Dark Thirty” about the search for Osama Bin Laden, and “The Help” respectively, were breakthrough film performances where audiences and producers took notice. I can’t wait to see “The Eyes of Tammy Faye”, staring Ms. Chastain, as televangelist partner and wife of disgraced preacher Jim Bakker that opens in theatres this month. Four Fantastic Titles Showcase Top-Tier Sounds Death Cab For Cutie’s “Soul Meets Body,” an affecting version with guest vocals from Chase Kerby. Information: BigStirRecords.com.
Two of today’s best singersongwriters have just released phenomenal new albums, while several important collections featuring never-before-released recordings are also available. Artist: Brandi Carlile Title: In These Silent Days (Low Country Sound/ Elektra Records) You might like if you enjoy: Indigo Girls, Margo Price, Brandi Carlile Tell me more: Six-time Grammy Award winning artist Brandi Carlile has returned with her astounding “In These Silent Days,” a 10-track album that fully showcases the American singer-songwriter’s amazing alto lead vocals and ability to mine emotion with each note. Although primarily categorized as part of the alternative country and Americana genres, Carlile’s new Dave Cobb- and Shooter Jennings-produced effort features selections spanning a myriad of styles. Indeed, “In These Silent Days” should introduce even more discerning listeners to her music. The gorgeous ballad “This Time
Tomorrow” and equally tender “Letter To The Past,” acoustic “Mama Werewolf” and “When You’re Wrong,” genre-defying rocker “Sinners, Saints and Fools” and poignant disc closer “Throwing Good After Bad” all resonate with immediate and palpable power. Listen to Carlile’s searing and soaring vocals on the country rocker “Broken Horses” where her performance has her scaling sonic and emotional heights with artistic power and otherworldly ease. Carlile is scheduled to perform a highly-anticipated set at the Stagecoach Music Festival in Indio on April 29, 2022. Information: BrandiCarlile.com. Artist: Dar Williams Title: I’ll Meet You Here (Renew Records/BMG) You might like if you enjoy: Shawn Colvin, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Aimee Mann Tell me more: Dar Williams has released the wonderful “I’ll Meet You Here,” the singersongwriter’s first new album in six years. The great news is the 10-song disc is marvelous from start to finish, with consistently-
melodic tracks bolstered by literate songwriting and lush musical arrangements on full display. The album’s informal theme — one of “acceptance” — is ideally in tune with the times where a global pandemic stopped the world in its tracks in 2020 and forced many to reexamine their life. These are songs that challenge and reward with lavish musical soundscapes with Williams’ rich soprano bolstering each selection. The engaging opener “Time, Be My Friend,” magnetic “You Give It All Away,” magical string section-enhanced “Berkeley,” buoyant Americanastyled “Today And Every Day” and ascending baroque poptinged “Sullivan Lane” are among the bewitching originals on this outstanding return. Information: DarWilliams.com. Artist: The Lunar Laugh Title: Nighthawks! (Big Stir Records) You might like if you enjoy: Jason Falkner, Marshall Crenshaw Tell me more: The Lunar Laugh’s new collection “Nighthawks!” is the perfect
introduction to the Oklahomaspawned trio; the Big Stir Records release includes more than a dozen live recordings spanning the indie pop troupe’s full career as well as several terrific new exclusive studio tracks (the captivating “I Wanna Know” and tuneful “It’s Okay”). Fans of melodic rock and powerpop will find much to admire in the work of the threesome — Connor Anderson, Jared Lekites and Campbell Young. Lush harmonies, nuanced musicianship, bona fide hooks and an infectious spirit are obvious in the parade of songs recorded live. The sing-along “Alive,” indie rocker “Waiting For A Sign,” tuneful folk rocker “Tell Me A Story,” countrified chamber pop nugget “The Bedroom Door” and Americana “Nighthawks And Mona Lisa” showcase the diversity of their approach. The Lunar Laugh’s cover of Neil Diamond’s “Solitary Man” is spectacular — it is as wistful as the original 1966 recording but fortified by shimmering vocal harmonies. The collection also features their cover of
Artist: Laura Nyro Title: Go Find the Moon: The Audition Tape (Omnivore Recordings) You might like if you enjoy: Laura Nyro, Carole King Tell me more: Fifty-five years after an 18-year-old Laura Nyro auditioned for famed music producer Milt Okun and A&R man Artie Mogull, the historic 1966 recording has been released commercially. “Go Find the Moon: The Audition Tape” (released by Omnivore Recordings on Sept. 10) is fascinating and showcases a young artist already in command of her skills as a pianist and singer. There is a spontaneity to the session, with a mix of original songs and fragments of reworked covers along with studio chatter capturing the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Songwriters Hall of Fame artist at the dawn of her extraordinary career. Incredible moments include her spirited opener “And When I Die” (an original that would soon be recorded on a hit album by Peter, Paul and Mary, and become a hit for Blood, Sweat & Tears), the tender “Enough of You,” jazzy delight “Go Find the Moon” and affecting “Lazy Susan.” Information: OmnivoreRecordings.com.

Zuckerberg loses OVER $6 BILLION as Facebook-empire crashes By Desert Star Staff According to Forbes, Mark Zuckerberg is facing some significant financial consequences, losing billions of dollars, as well as his No.5-richest man rank as users continue to be shut out of Facebook, Messenger, Instagram, and WhatsApp. After mass complaints about the various platforms in the Facebook family being down and users getting error messages when trying to log on, the company said it was working to resolve the issue. With all four now off-air for several hours, Zuckerberg has faced a pile-on on rival social media platforms, and habitual Facebook users have taken to other apps that aren’t experiencing issues, such as Twitter and Telegram, to express their dissatisfaction. Many have even temporarily celebrated the absence of Facebook. “Facebook and Instagram
go mysteriously offline, and, for one shining day, the world becomes a healthier place. #facebookdown — Edward Snowden (@ Snowden) October 4, 2021.” Zuckerberg has lost billions as a result of the outage, according to realtime tracking by Forbes. Moreover, its list of “today’s winners and losers” tracks from the close of business the previous day, meaning the CEO’s massive losses have occurred since users began experiencing technical issues. According to the data, other leaders in Big Tech have also seen recent losses, with Amazon’s Jeff Bezos and Microsoft’s Bill Gates both losing billions, too. However, those losses are still comparatively minor in the shadow of Zuckerberg’s $6.7 billion hits at the time of writing. Nevertheless, the loss has put Zuckerberg at sixth on Forbes’ list of the
world’s top billionaires, with Elon Musk at the zenith. Facebook stock has dropped multiple percentage points in the wake of the aforementioned technical difficulties and a ‘60 Minutes’ interview with a whistleblower from the company that aired on Sunday night. Data scientist Frances Haugen came forward as the source of a recent report claiming the company had been aware of the adverse effects its services could have on users, and its censorship ‘measures’ had been used to increase only its profits rather than to fight misinformation, as it had claimed. Haugen will appear before Congress this week for a hearing titled ‘Protecting Kids Online,’ which will focus on the alleged harmful effects of Facebook’s algorithms on youths.

the payee or endorsee as a matter of right. The property offered for sale excludes all funds held on account by the property receiver, if applicable. If the Trustee is unable to convey title for any reason, the successful bidder’s sole and exclusive remedy shall be the return of monies paid to the Trustee and the successful bidder shall have no further recourse. Notice to Potential Bidders If you are considering bidding on this property lien, you should understand that there are risks involved in bidding at a Trustee auction. You will be bidding on a lien, not on the property itself. Placing the highest bid at a Trustee auction does not automatically entitle you to free and clear ownership of the property. You should also be aware that the lien being auctioned off may be a junior lien. If you are the highest bidder at the auction, you are or may be responsible for paying off all liens senior to the lien being auctioned off, before you can receive clear title to the property. You are encouraged to investigate the existence, priority, and size of outstanding liens that may exist on this property by contacting the county recorder’s office or a title insurance company, either of which may charge you a fee for this information. If you consult either of these resources, you should be aware that the same Lender may hold more than one mortgage or Deed of Trust on the property. Notice to Property Owner The sale date shown on this Notice of Sale may be postponed one or more times by the Mortgagee, Beneficiary, Trustee, or a court, pursuant to Section 2924g of the California Civil Code. The law requires that information about Trustee Sale postponements be made available to you and to the public, as a courtesy to those not present at the sale. If you wish to learn whether your sale date has been postponed, and, if applicable, the rescheduled time and date for the sale of this property, you may call In Source Logic AT 702-659-7766 for information regarding the Special Default Services, Inc. or visit the Internet Web site address listed below for information regarding the sale of this property, using the file number assigned to this case, CA01000111-20. Information about postponements that are very short in duration or that occur close in time to the scheduled sale may not immediately be reflected in the telephone information or on the Internet Web site. The best way to verify postponement information is to attend the scheduled sale. Notice to Tenant NOTICE TO TENANT FOR FORECLOSURES AFTER JANUARY 1, 2021 You may have a right to purchase this property after the trustee auction pursuant to Section 2924m of the California Civil Code. If you are an “eligible tenant buyer,” you can purchase the property if you match the last and highest bid placed at the trustee auction. If you are an “eligible bidder,” you may be able to purchase the property if you exceed the last and highest bid placed at the trustee auction. There are three steps to exercising this right of purchase. First, 48 hours after the date of the trustee sale, you can call 702-659-7766, or visit this internet website www.insourcelogic.com, using the file number assigned to this case CA01000111-20 to find the date on which the trustee’s sale was held, the amount of the last and highest bid, and the address of the trustee. Second, you must send a written notice of intent to place a bid so that the trustee receives it no more than 15 days after the trustee’s sale. Third, you must submit a bid so that the trustee receives it no more than 45 days after the trustee’s sale. If you think you may qualify as an “eligible tenant buyer” or “eligible bidder,” you should consider contacting an attorney or appropriate real estate professional immediately for advice regarding this potential right to purchase.
