Oracle takes the lead in the bid for TikTok as Trump administration set to review the proposal this week. By Desert Star Staff Tech giant Oracle’s offer to partner with – not purchase – Chinese-owned vlogging platform TikTok will be reviewed this week. US Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin has confirmed
that after the firm rejected a Microsoft takeover. Mnuchin revealed in an NBC interview on Monday that the Trump administration had received Oracle’s proposal, adding that it would be reviewed over the week by
the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) national security concerns. Under last month’s executive order, parent company ByteDance was given until September 20 to sell TikTok’s US operations
or face a nationwide ban. Oracle submitted its proposal over the weekend as ByteDance rejected competitor Microsoft’s bid to purchase TikTok’s US assets. Unlike Microsoft, which worked with Walmart to acquire the

LA County issues $100,000 reward for information of cops shooting
By Desert Star Staff The Los Angeles County governing body has earmarked $100,000 for tip-offs that might help the police capture a suspect, described as a young black man, who shot two deputies multiple times in their car on Saturday while unprovoked. “The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors has authorized a $100,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect,” the LA county’s five-member governing body announced on Sunday, as the point-blank shooting of two police officers near a metro station in the city of Compton

An unknown attacker, who could be seen on a surveillance video released by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, approached the patrol vehicle and discharged his weapon multiple times, heavily injuring two deputies inside, a 31-year-old female officer and her 24-year-old male partner. The assailant could be seen leaving the scene unimpeded as one of the stricken officers struggles to open the vehicle’s door.
