DESIGN ALIVE Guide to obtain credits for your courses
GENERAL INFO Design Alive is proud to announce that our courses have been accepted for credit by the NCCRS - the National College Credit Recommendation Service. For full description of each course please visit www.nationalccrs.org/organizations/design-alive). Successful graduates of all courses will receive a Design Alive diploma upon completion of the course and now those that want who want to put their courses towards a degree can benefit from more than just an excellent education. Fees If you have successfully completed a Design Alive course in the past 5 years or are a current student and would like to receive credits for your course or courses, you will be required to do pay an Admin fee of $150. This fee is for retrieving and preparing your transcripts and for receiving one copy of your official transcript from our partner company, Parchment. The transcript can include one or all of the courses you wish to receive credit for. The transcript can be received via secure email sent directly to the college of your choice or yourself. Any additional copies of transcripts will incur a fee of $5 per transcript and $2.50 if you want it mailed to a non-USA address. This introductory fee is subject to change in the near future and will be a charge of $25 doilar per credit. Extra Requirements Please be aware that besides for successful completion of your course, there are some courses that require additional tests or projects to be completed in order to obtain credits. These are in additon to the standard course requirements such as homeworks, quizzes etc which still apply. Details of completion requirements can be found on the course pages in this booklet. Please read this carefully before paying the admin fee in case you do not want to go ahead, if the workload involved may not be worth it for you. COMPUTER GRAPHICS PHOTOSHOP: CG PS 01 Digital Imaging Credit recommendation: In the lower division baccalaureate/associate degree category, 3 credits (semester hours) in Graphic Design, Media Arts, Graphic Arts or Digital Art •

Midterm project: To create a travel poster using 5 separate images that are composited to form a unified whole. You must demonstrate the use of at least one special effect.

Final project: To create a dramatic and effective Surrealistic style poster/advertisement using at least 5 separate images using various Photoshop techniques.
ILLUSTRATOR: CG AI 01 Digital Drawing Credit recommendation: In the lower division baccalaureate/associate degree category, 3 credits (semester hours) in Graphic Design, Media Arts, Graphic Arts or Digital Arts •
A written midterm exam

Midterm project: To design a full figure three dimensional mascot for a school or organization using path tools, advanced coloring techniques and type tools.

Final project: To create a full page illustrative interpretation based on a photo or series of photos.
INDESIGN: CG ID 01 Desktop Publishing Layout Credit recommendation: In the lower division baccalaureate/associate degree category, 3 credits (semester hours) in Journalism, Desktop Publishing or Graphic Design. You will need to have completed the Preparation for Print Course as this is combined with Indesign for credit purposes. this course is offered self paced, consists of 8 classes and costs $500. • A written midterm exam •
Midterm project: To create a 2 or 3 page newsletter for a hobbyist group/organization, using text, imagery, tabs, style sheets and master page concepts.

Final project: Create a set of two book covers for a series, demonstrating a use of basic InDesign concepts, style sheets and master pages, special printing techniques and preparing files properly for print.

GRAPHIC DESIGN The following 4 courses make up the Graphic Design & Portfolio course. One cannot do one course without the other.
TWO DIMENSIONAL DESIGN (GD D1 01)

This course is the first semester which covers design rules, color theory and design history

TYPOGRAPHY (GD T1 01) Credit recommendation: In the lower division baccalaureate/ associate degree category, 3 credits (semester hours) s in Graphic Design, Media Arts, or Digital Design. GRAPHIC COMMUNICATION II (GD D3 01) Credit recommendation: In the lower division baccalaureate/ associate degree category, 3 credits (semester hours) s in Graphic Design, Media Arts, or Digital Design This course includes the following projects: • Restuarant branding and menu design • Multi-page brochure design • Packaging design
WEBSITE DESIGN The following 3 courses make up the Website Design and Development course. One cannot do one course without the other although it is possible to get accreditation from WD 01 and WD 201 without WD A2 01
WEB DESIGN COMPREHENSIVE (WD 01) WEB DESIGN ADVANCED (WD A2 01) Credit recommendation: In the lower division baccalaureate/ associate degree category, 4 credits (semester hours) in Graphic Design, Media Arts or Digital Design
Credit recommendation: In the upper division baccalaureate degree category, 4 credits (semester hours) in Graphic Design, Media Arts or Digital Design
This course is the HTML/.CSS module and requires a written HTML/CSS exam to be completed as additional work

WEBSITE DEVELOPMENT 1 (WD 201) Credit recommendation: In the lower division baccalaureate/ associate degree category, 4 credits (semester hours) in Graphic Design, Media Arts, New Media or Web Design This course covers the design aspect of websites as well as Google Analytics, Email marketing, SEO and social media. and requires a written exam to be completed as additional work.

MOTION GRAPHICS The following 4 courses make up the Motion Graphics course . One can do video editing as a standalone course but the 3 AE courses cannot be done independantly.
VIDEO EDITING (MG AP 01) In the lower division baccalaureate/associate degree category, 3 semester hours in Art, Communications, Media Production or Multimedia.
FUNDAMENTALS & PRINCIPLES OF ANIMATION (MG AE 01) In the lower division baccalaureate/associate degree category, 3 semester hours in Art, Communications, Media Production or Multimedia. •

ADVANCED ANIMATION (MG AE 02) In the lower division baccalaureate/associate degree category, 3 semester hours in Art, Animation, Media Design, or Multimedia. •
Character animation project ( for students who attended classes 16-17 and earlier)
VISUAL EFFECTS IN ANIMATION (MG AE 03 ) In the lower division baccalaureate/associate degree category, 3 semester hours in Art, Animation, Media Design, or Multimedia. •
A final project using 3D type and camera.
SO WHAT ARE YOUR NEXT STEPS? 1. You must confirm that have completed all the assignments and projects of your course and that you have read this booklet and are willing to undertake any extra work if relevant. 2. Pay the admin fee on our website. https://designalive.com/student-center/credits/ 3. You need to login to parchment.com and set up an account. You need to specify where the transcript is being sent. You have 2 options to choose from. • Email or postal delivery to yourself • email or postal delivery direct to your college. If you chose to receive the transcripts to yourself, you will be responsible for submitting it to your college. Please be aware that your college may only accept transcripts sent directly from Parchment. Each transcript costs $5 and Design Alive covers the cost of the first transcript. Please note that a paper delivery only is valid for Excelsior college and the address is Office of the Registrar 7 Columbia Circle NY, Albany 12203-5159 US 4. Miriam will then send you info about any extra assignments to complete within 24 hours of your submission. Her email is miriam@designalive.com. 5. Once you have completed all necessary work, please submit all assignments to Miriam for grading. 6. Once we have graded your work we will prepare a transcript and send it to you for checking. Once approved we will upload it to parchment to fulfill your order. You will receive automatic notifcation of this next stage.
