PRESIDENT VIEW On International Day, UN underlines role of sport in promoting development, peace

Santosh Shukla, Advocate president@aiita.org

The Certainty of Success Are you just trying your luck at succeeding in life and not sure whether you will actually get there? Is doubt and unbelief haunting you and preventing you from making the most of your opportunities life? If you doubt your ability to achieve or get something, chances are you will not no matter how hard you try. There is something to be said about the power your mind yields on the results you achieve in life. The battle is not won or lost based on circumstances or fate. The battle is won or lost in the mind. According to Dr. Moses Analyzing all the times when I have experienced outstanding results in any Endeavour the one thing that stands out is that there was a certainty of success. It is a certainty that is totally oblivious to failure. It is a certainty that knows that difficulties and setbacks may come, but the ultimate end is victory and nothing else. It is a certainty that puts your mind at ease. It is that still, small, but clear voice in your mind that says “everything will be okay.” It is almost as if God himself is speaking to you and telling you to “have faith.” William Lyon Phelps said “If you develop the absolute sense of certainty that powerful beliefs provide, and then you can get yourself to accomplish virtually anything, including those things that other people are certain are impossible.” You need to be certain of the fact that success is as attainable for you as it is for any man. Furthermore, know of a certainty that regardless of how long it takes and the obstacles you may face on the way, you will live a successful and fulfilled life. Never once doubt this.

UN: On the second annual International Day of Sport for Development and Peace, top United Nations officials stressed the important role that sport can play in achieving sustainable progress and change. “Sport has the power to help develop the potential of individuals, communities and nations,” said UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. “On this International Day, let us pledge to strengthen the role that sport plays in

communities around the world. We need to have everyone on the team.” Mr. Ban described the role sport plays in encouraging personal growth, eliminating gender barriers and building bridges across lines that might otherwise divide. He added that sport helps to create cultures where fundamental values such as equality, the acceptance of rules, mutual respect and fairness are appreciated. “It helps the more vulnerable groups in society, especially young people and persons with disabilities, to enjoy their human rights, including safe opportunities to engage in physical education programmes and sporting activities,” he said. “This contributes to their inclusion in society and increases their motivation to attend school.” He underlined the role that the sporting industry can play in promoting environmental awareness and sustainable practices and commended athletes across the world for supporting United Nations efforts to achieve the Millennium Development Goals. He also looked ahead to the new development agenda, saying he would continue looking to sportsmen and women to be advocates for building a better world for all. “Sport has established itself as an effective tool for development and peace building,” said Wilfried Lemke, the United Nations SecretaryGeneral's Special Adviser on Sport for Development and Peace. “As we are moving to a new set of sustainable development goals for the post2015 development agenda, we have to make sure that sport keeps playing its beneficial role in it.”

PM Modi congratulates Shashi Kapoor India's IT plans suffer from power cuts, congestion - and monkeys for Dada Saheb Phalke award

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated veteran actor Shashi Kapoor for being selected for the prestigious Dada Saheb Phalke award. Prime Minister Modi took to twitter to convey his congratulations. "Shashi Kapoor ji is a fine actor and a stalwart of the film industry. I congratulate him for the Dadasaheb

Phalke Award," he tweeted. Born in 1938, Kapoor is known for his roles in Namak Halaal, Satyam Shivam Sundaram and Deewar, and has acted in over 100 movies to date. In later years, he also turned to production, producing movies like 36 Chowringhee Lane and Junoon. The Dada Saheb Phalke award is the highest recognition for film personalities in India, and is reportedly given on the basis of recommendations of a committee of eminent people set up by the government. The 77-year-old is the third member of the Kapoor family to get the prestigious award, following father Prithvi Raj Kapoor and elder brother Raj Kapoor.

VARANASI: As India launches an $18 billion plan to spread the information revolution to its provinces, the problems it faces are a holdover from the past electricity shortages, badly planned, jam-packed cities, and monkeys. The clash between the old world and the new is sharply in focus in the crowded 3,000-yearold holy city of Varanasi, where many devout Hindus come to die in the belief that doing so will give them salvation. Varanasi is also home to hundreds of macaque monkeys that live in its temples and are fed and venerated by devotees. But the monkeys also feast on the fibre-optic cables that are strung along the banks of the

Ganges river. "We cannot move the temples from here. We cannot modify anything here, everything is built up. The monkeys, they destroy all the wires and eat all the wires," said communications e n g i n e e r A . P. S r i v a s t a v a . Srivastava, who oversees the expansion of new connections in the local district, said his team had to replace the riverside cables when the monkeys chewed them up less than two months after they were installed. He said his team is now looking for alternatives, but there are few to be found. The city of over 2 million people is impossibly crowded and laying underground cable is out of the question.

RBI rate cut not enough to stimulate manufacturing: FICCI NEW DELHI: Ahead of the RBI's bi-monthly monetary policy review on Tuesday, the FICCI said on Sunday that any cut in interest rates would not be "adequate to stimulate investment in manufacturing" given the lack of "significant change in demand conditions". The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) in its latest quarterly survey said 69 percent of respondents do not foresee any substantial increase in investments by their organisation as a result of reduction by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in repo rates at which it lends to commercial banks. "Interest rates or cost of finance continues to be sticky. At least 58 percent of respondents reported availing credit at over 12 percent average interest rates," FICCI said in a release. "For Q-4 (January-March 2015), 73 percent respondents reported that they don't have any plans for capacity additions for the next six months. Availability of land, delay in regulatory clearances, poor demand conditions, and high cost of

borrowing are some of the major constraints affecting the expansion plans of the respondents," it added. In terms of order books, it said the survey result "remains same as of the previous quarter (Q-3), indicating no significant change in the demand conditions". The FICCI survey gauges the expectations of manufacturers in 13 sectors - textiles, capital goods, metals, chemicals, cement and ceramics, electronics, auto components, leather and footwear, machine tools, food and fast moving consumer goods, tyre, paper and textiles machinery. "Responses have been drawn from 272 manufacturing units from both large and SME segments with a combined annual turnover of over Rs.400,000 crore," the FICCI said. The RBI is widely expected to leave the repo rate unchanged at 7.50 percent at its first monetary policy review of the new fiscal on Tuesday, after two unscheduled rate cuts made this year. "Not expecting any rate cuts this time, not for another one or two months".

Apple stores are already selling the August smart lock, which works with both iPhone and Google's Android phones, document scanner app which provides a secure way to control access to homes 'Office Lens' for iOS from an app on the device, the Mirror reported. There' no longer a need for keys and codes; just tap on the phone of and Android tablet can help people to select who enters and who Microsoft has launched a mobile doesn't. Business Insider magazine stated that, while this document scanner app for iOS and technology might look like just a new device and a new Android smart phones called Office app, the implications are far-reaching. In boon for bitcoin, UK to regulate digital currency exchanges LONDON: Britain took a significant step towards becoming a global bitcoin hub on Wednesday as the government announced it would regulate digital currencies for the first time by applying anti-money laundering rules to exchanges. Already the centre of the $5-trillion-a-day market for traditional currencies, the UK is fast emerging as a centre for digital currencies too, cementing its place as

An app will unlock your doors NEW YORK: You can open this lock with an app installed in your smartphone. The lock made by a company called 'August' essentially

allows you and anyone you register to open your door with an app. Your friends, family, or even the plumber could download the app, you could give them a code, and they get in, CBS Local reported. You can even have that code expire, meaning they

will only be able to access the door for a limited time. The 'August' lock costs about $250 and another $250 to install it. Inspiring as it may sound, security experts are not very enthusiastic about it. Because mobile phones are hackable and if your phone is hacked, you will lose access to your own house. "The population in the planet can now get into your pocket and wallet, electronically from China or some other place. When you put your information in any computer device that is connected to the internet then you're talking about the entire world potentially accessing that thing," security expert Silka Gonzalez was quoted as saying.

European's financial technology, or "FinTech", capital. In a report published alongside finance minister George Osborne's annual budget statement, Britain's Treasury said the new regulation would support innovation and prevent criminal use of digital currencies. The proposals will be consulted on early in the next parliament. Tom Robinson, co-founder of Elliptic, the world's first bitcoin insurance vault in London, and a board member of the UK Digital Currency Association, said the new regulation effectively served as a "stamp of approval" from the government. "It provides enough oversight to provide legitimacy without stifling innovation," he said. "I think it is a good balance between on the one hand the U.S. and specifically New York, which I think have gone too far, and what a lot of countries are doing which is just completely ignoring it."

Lens, which will allow users to take snap photos of documents, receipts, business cards, menus, whiteboards, sticky notes and more. Office Lens works with OneNote. It was first launched a year ago as an application designed only for the Windows Phone. Office Lens was launched on Apple's App Store and on Android phones, alongside other Microsoft applications, including Office and Outlook. This is a part of the company's newer strategy to embrace other platforms outside its own. According to TechCrunch, Office Lens identifies the text on the images it captures using optical character recognition (OCR), which allows users to locate the file using the keyword search in OneNote or in Microsoft's Cloud storage site, OneDrive. Users can also convert the images they scan of paper files and whiteboards into Microsoft Office formats and more, including Word documents, PowerPoint presentations and even PDFs and JPGs. These files can then be inserted into OneNote as images. Office Lens also offers a businesscard scanning function that lets users turn cards into contact details which they can add to Outlook or your phone's contact list. Microsoft's app also offers the ability to create an online archive of your scans in its own OneDrive service. A preview for the product is available on Google+ for Android users. There they will be able to test the version ahead of its public debut. The app is available on the iTunes App Store for iOS users. Microsoft now has over 100 iOS and Android applications in total. It has already launched some of its most popular products and services to competing mobile platforms like iOS and Android, including by launching Office for iOS late last year, as well as Outlook for iOS and Android, various MSN properties, OneDrive and more.

Interstellar movie gets cool 80s inspired text based game Christopher Nolan's 2014 hit science fiction film, Interstellar, got everyone thinking about the potential future of humanity. Set in the near apocalyptic future when Earth's crops have been ravaged by blight, Interstellar focuses on a crew of astronauts who travel through a wormhole in search of a habitable planet for humanity. And if you've been obsessed about the movie, you can now try out the Interstellar Text Adventure game. The text based game is set in the world of Interstellar and launched just recently. If you are familiar with classic 80s text-based computer games like Zork and dnd, then you won't have too much trouble with this one. The game pits you in the role of a lone scientist sent on the Lazarus Project to discover a new home for the people back on Earth. It's fairly simple and your main task involves placing four probes to see if the planet is suitable for human life. However, simple does not make the game any easier and people who have played text-based games before will have an advantage over others. Still it is quite fun to try out and pretty well written to boot. Also remember to type 'help here' a lot if you want to know all the available commands, otherwise you may end up confused.

US economy only adds 126,000 jobs in March

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court struck down Section 66A of the Information Technology Act, 2000, saying that it was violative of Article 19(1)a of the Constitution, which guarantees freedom of speech. Announcing the verdict, the bench of Justice J. Chelameswar and Justice Rohinton Fali Nariman said that the Section 66A is unconstitutional for being vague. The challenge to the validity of section 66A was raised by Shreya Singhal, following the arrest of two girls Shaheen Dhada and Rinu Shrinivasan -- for posting comments critical of the Mumbai bandh in the wake of the death of Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray in 2012. The hearing saw NGOs Common Cause, People Union for Civil Liberty and individuals including selfexiled Bangladeshi writer

WASHINGTON: US employers added the fewest number of jobs in more than a year in March, the latest sign of weakness in the economy and one likely to further delay an anticipated interest rate increase by the Federal Reserve. Nonfarm payrolls rose 126,000 last month, less than half February's pace and the smallest gain since December 2013, the Labor Department said. The weakness was concentrated in the goodsproducing sector, which has been hurt by a strong

dollar and lower crude oil prices. Leisure and hospitality also saw a sharp slowdown in jobs growth, suggesting harsh winter weather could have dragged on hiring. While the jobless rate held at a more than 6-1/2-year low of 5.5 per cent, the workforce shrank. The labor force participation rate returned to a more than 36year low reached late last year. "The report confirms the emerging narrative of slowing growth momentum seen in the other economic indicators. It will weaken the argument for a mid-year (rate) hike," said Millan Mulraine, deputy chief economist at TD Securities in New York. The tepid increase in payrolls ended 12 straight months of job gains above 200,000 - the longest streak since 1994. In addition, data for January and February were revised to show 69,000 fewer jobs created than previously reported, giving the report an even weaker tone.

Taslima Nasreen joining the challenge which saw a repeat hearing after an earlier hearing by a bench of Justice J. Chelameswar and Justice S.A. Bobde remained inconclusive. Broadly, the contention by most of the petitioners was that section 66A was vague which gave ample scope for an arbitrary interpretation and misuse of the provision by police. Section 66A reads: "Any person who sends by any means of a computer resource any information that is grossly offensive or has a menacing character. TM
