Design Factory

Design Factory is the regional creative development agency that promotes and supports the innovative and thriving craft and design sector within Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire, Northamptonshire and Rutland. We are a not-for-profit organisation that works to create new opportunities and encourage the development and growth of new and established craft and design businesses.

Our online directory boasts a high-quality range of unique and award-winning products, designed and made by local makers from the East Midlands. From furniture and lighting to ceramics, jewellery and textiles there is sure to be something to tempt everyone. As well as internationally marketing the talent and innovation that is created in the region, Design Factory works to support the long-term development of creative businesses. Our market development programme creates new opportunities, facilitates collaboration, and ultimately innovates and encourages the growth of new and established businesses. Newark Millgate Museum

A former oil seed mill and warehouse, Newark Millgate Museum is housed in one of the few 19th century warehouse buildings accessible to the public in Newark.

It sits on the banks of River Trent, a short walk from Newark Castle, the Gilstrap Centre and the town始s historic market place.

The museum displays exhibit collections from 19th and 20th centuries, including re-created shops and rooms as well as regularly changing art exhibitions. Altogether, a great place to meet friends for coffee. Book our special evening sessions on Wednesdays which can be tailored to your needs, or choose from spooky ghost tours, mystery object history quizzes and art and craft workshops.

abstract or they have a quirky image that makes you smile. Amanda enjoys

experimenting and has produced a range of hangings from recycled glass bottles and

Sharon Dickinson is constantly exploring

Emma Britton creates 2 dimensional

inspiration for Emmaʼs hand painted and screen printed designs comes from the

optimism found in British suburbia. Emma has interpreted 'Fresh' through colour by

blocking out those winter blues with bright spring and summer flowers.

leaf skeletons and found objects to suggest such creatures as fish, dragonflies and those of fantasy and myth.

Kelly McRobie is a textile maker, creating

handcrafted techniques. Inspiration stems from her love of antiques and Kelly uses locally sourced leather skins and British

wools to create one-off pieces that adorn

Nita makes ceramic objects and paper clay textiles and the built environment.

Currently, she is using the movement and varying states of water as the basis for

developing ceramic surface patterns, some of which have been used to create fabric and ceramic veils to 'bring fresh light through forgotten windows'.

wall panels are designed and handmade in porcelain and represent a fusion of early Japanese ceramic forms and Italian

Construction and manipulation techniques designed and produced by wrapping

Sue Blatherwick

Simplicity is important in the decoration and creation of form. Coloured slips applied in layers while the clay is wet allows the clay

to become a canvas and the form to remain fluid. Textile designs, patterns and graffiti inspire decoration. Work is single fired

earthenware, produced with ecological aims.
