Welcome to the October issue of Designer.

It is always a hugely exciting task each year to reveal the finalists for the Designer Awards, so it’s with great pleasure that I say you can find the list of this year’s ‘pick of the crop’ on page 26. The task of judging entries is never easy.

We call upon a panel of industry experts drawn from a wide range of design disciplines, each of whom generously give up valuable time to cast their critical eye over the submitted entries.

There are a few key areas that the most successful entrants always manage to get right. Firstly, they ensure that the photographs really do their project justice. This doesn’t necessarily have to mean spending a fortune on professional photography, but it is important to give some thought to angles, lighting, and picture quality so that the results of all their blood, sweat, and tears are seen in the best possible way.

Secondly, they explain clearly and simply what sets their project apart from the rest: the challenges that had to be overcome; the exacting client brief that might have at times seemed impossible; and the innovative ideas and specification choices that made the whole ensemble seamlessly come together.

So many congratulations to all our finalists this year – and the very best of luck to all who missed out when they show the grit and determination to try again next year, as we sincerely hope they will.

But perhaps most important of all, the successful projects are those that offer something out of the ordinary. Not every designer gets to work on a big-budget luxury project of course, but creative brilliance can be just as important – perhaps even more so – at the lower end of the budget too. That’s why some of our favourite projects over the years have been those that have been relatively modest on budget, but HUGE in ambition.

Reflective Glory Designer Jean Nouvel has developed a new kitchen range for Danish brand Reform. Reflect has a contemporary form but with a creative nod to the iconic character of Art Deco. It uses reflective, monochrome surfaces in black and metal which bounce light around to create an ever-changing atmosphere.

There are also subtle grooves in the kitchen fronts to give some added texture to the design. Reform’s Founder and CEO Jeppe Christensen, said: “The grooves in the material that the kitchen fronts consist of give it a silent yet characterful expression. They reflect and throw the light in a playful way.”

Along with a handle made of anodized aluminium, the countertops come in stainless steel and Fenix laminate in either grey or black.

Making Spaces Paravents can be easily attached by the user with a zip fastener to connect Alcove units, creating enclosed spaces or providing a screening function.

Alcove has also been rethought from a sustainability perspective, with a number of durable fabrics added to the selection and the modularity of the design has been enhanced to facilitate the replacement of Alcove Plus parts.

Drain Power Bathroom brand Hansgrohe has introduced a new shower drain innovation called RainDrain.

Available in three different shower channel lines, it has been designed for efficient functionality, and simple installation. Products within the range are available in a variety of finishes that match with the Hansgrohe FinishPlus range, including chrome, brushed stainless steel, polished gold optic, matt white and matt black.

In the Zone Flooring brand Interface has refreshed its Touch and Tones range. The three-style Touch and Tones II collection provides a variety of neutral and bright colours in three textures to help create distinct spaces in office, education and hospitality settings.

Each style offers a choice of texture and pile height to create break out zones, support with wayfinding and revitalise spaces to enhance community connection.

The refresh adds 16 new colour options in three textures to the existing 50cm x 50cm portfolio.

Danish brand GUBI has launched a new selection of finishes for its iconic Beetle chair, selected by the chair’s designers Stine Gam and Enrico Fratesi.

Coming Out of its Shell

Conceived by GamFratesi in 2013 and referencing the ingenious structure of insect shells, the Beetle Chair has become one of GUBI’s most well-known pieces.

The latest take on the range – called the Beetle GamFratesi Edit – consists of four new upholstered editions. The texture-led, high-end upholstery fabrics in dark green, cool grey, neutral beige and two-tone white build upon the versatility of the Beetle, showcasing how the distinctive shell can be customised in a range of upholstered fabrics, colours and textures.

The Danish-Italian design duo Stine Gam and Enrico Fratesi, said: “We always knew the Beetle Chair was a versatile piece of furniture, but it has been really interesting to see just how well these four editions evoke such different moods and ambiences just by deploying different materials, colours and textures.”

Italian stone manufacturer Antolini has opened its first ‘stoneroom’ showroom demonstrating the range and qualities of natural stone produced by the brand.

The Verona-based company presented its new space during last month’s Fuorisalone, designing the 600 sq m venue in collaboration with interior designer Alessandro La Spada.

The displays highlight the choice of 1300 natural materials available and in stock, showing over 5000 samples from across the Antolini portfolio, including its Exclusive Collection, Textures+, Natura Collection and Precioustone ranges among others.

The hub also showcases the versatile use of natural stone, with interpretations of its use in residential, workplace, hospitality and retail settings on walls, surfaces and floors, as well as items such as shelving, desks, and tables.

With a rich history in manufacturing, Swiss appliance brand V-ZUG has been a staple part of life in Switzerland for the past century. Simplicity of use is incredibly important, with the company coining the phrase “simplexity” when they design – simple to use, complex technology.

And V-ZUG appliances are always designed to be sustainable.

Through a strong sense of social responsibility, V-ZUG embraced the principles of sustainability long before they were in vogue. Like product design, it sees sustainability as a matter of precision, innovation, exceptional design and superior outcome.

Living proof of the company’s genuine commitment to the greater good can be found at its one hundred per cent carbon neutral production facility in Zug, Switzerland. This flows through to its product offering with heat-pump technology in washers, dryers and dishwashers and the unique RefreshButler clothes airing system as an alternative to drycleaning.

The magic is in the detail V-ZUG has recently launched the new Excellence Line, a suite of appliances that balance efficiency, aesthetics and sustainability by exploring new territory in customisation.

The first frontier crossed is the colour palette, where the signature black mirror glass has now been joined by a softer version in platinum. Next, the unique and beautiful tactile interface includes “circle slider” etched into the glass making it a simple joy to use.

“The circle slider is in the middle part of the appliance, creating this symmetry”, explains Martin “It’s very important to us.

It makes the product strong, confident and powerful. Ultimately we want to bring joy of use and to bring creativity and inspiration for our customers in the kitchen”.

It’s a sentiment echoed by colleague Leea Hiltunen, Head of Product Management. “The big trends are lifestyle, cooking at home, healthy living and of course beautiful design. With the Excellence Line we have the possibility to offer an appliance that can be individualised and beautiful to use.”

V-ZUG Studio London This Autumn V-ZUG is opening an iconic space in central London. The new V-ZUG Studio will be a flagship venue for the company, reflecting their values of design, simplicity and sustainability and creating a welcoming environment to showcase the brand.

esigner Tom Dixon has created his first bathroom range – Liquid – in a new collaboration with VitrA. He says it was important to him from the outset to create a comprehensive range that encompasses all elements of the bathroom – including sanitaryware, furniture, taps, tiles, shower systems, and accessories – designed to work together or as stand-alone pieces.

For Liquid, part of Tom’s inspiration was Victorian bathrooms.

He said: “I like the feeling of permanence in Victorian bathrooms, with their big chunky taps and fat tubes. It’s an aesthetic that’s closely connected to a whole tradition of British engineering and influenced the development of the bathroom.”

The fact that clay is readily available and extremely durable resonated with Dixon, particularly from a sustainability perspective. He found it fascinating “the way a bit of grey and greasy earth can transform into something so white, clean and shiny”.

Like much of Tom’s recent work, the new collection is aligned with his increasing use of round-edged aesthetics. The designs have been inspired by elements of pop art, such as Jeff Koons and his Balloon Dog and the work of Claes Oldenburg, as well as the sculptor Barbara Hepworth’s geometry of soft forms and use of rounded marble.

Dixon and VitrA’s shared vision was to create a bathroom solution that is for everyone “contemporary without being of the moment,” he says, while being sufficiently

different from other collections on the market. Over months of close collaboration, VitrA and Tom Dixon explored lots of new ideas. “I think design should always increase the potentials,” said VitrA’s Design Director, Erdem Akan. “If you get the core pieces right, you can create combinations and potentials – creating more with less.”

Recognising the current obsession with skinny and reduced designs, Dixon has created the opposite, incorporating fatter, softer lines. The smooth, rounded edges are easy to clean, alongside taps with simple controls, while soft edges ensure a safe bathroom environment. While the overall design is stripped back and reduced – a style Dixon refers to as “expressive minimalism” – the functionality is intuitive so that

users can instinctively understand how to operate the products. “I wanted the collection to look like a kid’s sketch of a bathroom basin or a tap, displaying a clear logic and simplicity in looks and usage.”

Consciously choosing to offer only white ceramics, the range combines different materials including fluted glass and metal mesh. Taps and showers are available in chrome or for contrast, a new gloss black finish that is atypical in modern bathrooms.

The range also includes distinctive wall tiles, available in five designs and with colour options of white, black, grey, sage green and ecru. The tile designs reflect ripples in the water and patterns inspired by the classic U-bend, featuring embossed dots and waves that can be creatively configured.

Each of the products can be combined to create different styles and purposes, such as private and public usage, offering customers the opportunity to personalise the bathroom space by choosing from a wide range of products that includes a urinal, bidet and touch-free tap. This flexibility means that customers can use the collection in a wide variety of locations from domestic settings in the home to professional environments such as offices, restaurants and hotels.

Dixon joins a distinguished list of designers to have worked with VitrA’s in-house team to create bathroom collections, including Ross Lovegrove, Sebastian Conran, Arik Levy, Terri Pecora and Claudio Bellini.

Finalists Revealed The very best projects and products will be celebrated at the industry’s most important design honours which will be presented in London next month...

The Finalists for this year’s Designer Awards have been announced. The top-ranked projects from across the diverse range of categories includes some of the most talented designers working across residential and commercial interior projects and each has successfully come through a rigorous judging process to be in with a chance of winning one of the industry’s top design honours.

Martin Allen-Smith, Editor of Designer, said: “Once again, we’ve been impressed with the quantity and quality of entries, particularly given the immense challenges faced by everyone in the sector over the past 18 months or so. We are delighted to be able to announce this year’s finalists, and offer them our congratulations on a huge achievement in reaching this stage. These projects really do represent some of the finest work by immensely talented designers and we wish them the very best of luck.”

The longlist for the Product Innovation Award categories has also been revealed, ahead of the ‘Gold Winners’ being announced next month. Allen-Smith added: “It has been so reassuring to see that while the world has been somewhat ‘stop-start’ during the pandemic, many of the top manufacturers have managed to maintain their commitment to new product development, bringing to

market many of the great new launches that will have been in development since pre-pandemic.”

“This is exactly what the industry needs. Given that even the very best interior design projects are often only as good as the products specified within them, the development of new designs, materials, and technology provide architects and designers with the tools that they need to deliver to clients, and get things moving back to business as usual.”

All winners will be revealed the 19th annual Designer Awards, which takes place on 12 November at the Grand Connaught Rooms in London’s Covent Garden – marking the return of the event to a live presentation following last year’s virtual awards ceremony. AllenSmith added: “We can’t wait to welcome our finalists, sponsors, and all other guests to the Designer Awards in November for a long-overdue celebration of the superb creativity that exists in our industry.”

Yorgo Lykouria, Founder and Creative Director of Rainlight, collaborated with lighting manufacturer Zumtobel to create AMBITUS, distinctive because of its compact profile and circular shape to emit maximum light distribution in a sector dominated by linear forms.

Lykouria said: “It seemed to me a paradox to design a luminaire with straight lines when all natural sources of light such as the sun and moon are spherical. Linear lighting systems often express disruption in a building that has complex geometry, rather than order. AMBITUS resolves this challenge because a circle is derived from a point; it can change direction and follows a modulated form without being oriented incorrectly.”

The light’s ring shape means it has light distribution of almost 360 degrees, supplying maximum efficiency and quality of light. The design development stage involved using pliable LEDs and a highly complex tooling process, while AMBITUS’s perforated pattern is achieved using sophisticated computational formulas. It is suspended by distinctive, thin cables that also carry power and data.

UK brand FUTURE Designs has launched FUZONE500, a lighting solution that harnesses the anti-viral and anti-bacterial elimination qualities of ultraviolet light without any of the harmful effects to humans or physical surfaces.

FUZONE500 uses the natural properties of ozone to eliminate up to 99.99% of unwanted bacteria and airborne viruses without direct contact with the treated areas. The ultraviolet lamp incorporated within the system is obscured from the human eye, so can be operated while premises are fully occupied to guarantee that a space is being cleaned 24 hours a day.

The technology comprises sealed ultraviolet lamps operating on two different wavelengths to create a combination of

photolysis and ozonolysis to effectively create ozone, which generates cold incineration of the molecules ending in a safe oxidation process.

DESIGNER MAGAZINE LIGHTING Recent project by architecture and interior design studio 23+GS/318 which was commissioned to refurbish the lower ground floor of an office building in London’s Notting Hill. The dim, dank basement spaces were revitalised into a contemporary, light filled office.

Internally the resulting play of light filters into the office space, dappling shadows onto adjacent surfaces.

Descending into the office space on a ‘floating’ concrete stair, the interior has a calmness delivered by a wellconsidered palette of materials.

Against the backdrop of exposed painted concrete and a pale resin floor, the retained original Victorian cast iron columns, have been painted a stark black, a reminder of the industrial past of the building.

Lighting installations such as Vincent van Duysen’s Infra-Structure system for Flos Lighting and backlit, lightly textured Clayworks fins express the studio’s play with light, in this partially subterranean space.

NikolaTesla FIT is the first induction hob with integrated extraction that can be installed in a standard base unit.

There are two widths of hob 60cm and 72cm, but both fit in a standard 60cm base. The elegant design fits flush with the work surface when not in use and the slim extraction inlet allows maximum flexibility for pan sizes. FIT’s powerful motor creates a rapid air speed of up to 5m/s which ensures fume and odour capture. In the recirculating version Elica’s high performance ceramic filters ensure up to 80% efficiency compared to an industry norm of 60%. They can be regenerated in the oven for up to five years which is both a welcome economy and good for the environment.

The Nikola Tesla range also includes FLAME, which combines integrated extraction with gas cooking. Elica has also launched three new WiFi-connected extractors that can be controlled via the Elica App or using “voice assistants” including Amazon’s Alexa. This enables homeowners to remotely control extraction speeds and lighting functions, whilst the extractors themselves can advise homeowners when grease filters need cleaning or high-performance charcoal filters needs regenerating.

The new connected models include: SUPER PLAT, an ultra slim wall-mounted cooker hood with multi-directional fume capture. It has a maximum airflow of 730 m3/h. It is also equipped with a dimmer to adjust the lighting to create the optimum environment in the cooking area.

LULLABY@ is a ceiling hood that is ideal for islands or peninsulas in contemporary in kitchens and, unusually for a ceiling hood, it can also be installed in duct-out or recirculating mode without additional outlets.

SLEEK2.0@ is a built-in extractor with a beautiful minimalist aesthetic- its single piece construction means there are no joints to impede a perfect flush installation. SLEEK2.0@ also has a dimmer and has Elica’s “Tune White” feature so you can match the warmth of the light with the other lights close to it.

And then there’s SKYDOME, a powerful cooker hood that fits flush with the ceiling and has a 28W LED lighting panel to provide the cooking area with ambient lighting. Finished in white, when it is turned off it simply blends into the ceiling.

It’s also powerful with a maximum airflow of up to 770m³/h. There are three models in the range: a standard 30cm deep model, a slim 16cm deep model for installation in shallow false ceilings, and a remote motor model also only 16cm deep.

anchester-based interior design studio SpaceInvader has created a stunning series of nature-inspired spaces at One Victoria Street in Windsor for client Legal & General.

The new, 43,000 sq ft, five-storey development by Rolfe Judd architects offers tenants a range of floorplate sizes and terraces and is the first new Grade A development in Windsor for 20 years. SpaceInvader were responsible for the scheme’s Cat A interiors and wayfinding, with a remit that encompassed the design of the reception and ground floor business lounge, the circulation area lift lobbies, all public area signage and two roof terrace areas on the building’s third and fourth floors, plus wellbeing facilities including an internal garden, showers and changing facilities.

The new building has been designed to sit comfortably within the fabric and historical surrounds of Royal Windsor. Directly inspired by Windsor’s woodland surrounds and history, SpaceInvader’s design concept for building sought to create an environment with a natural emphasis, so that the scheme’s tenants would feel inspired, motivated and energised by their surroundings. The design scheme included, for example, an internal garden area with live planting within the ground floor lounge. Users can be immersed in an ultra-green space for reflection, relaxation and reading. Natural textures include moss, wood and stone, creating a space that appeals to all the senses.

SpaceInvader Founder John Williams said: “This is a really

forward-looking scheme. It’s great to see a landlord using net lettable area in order to provide wellbeingfocused flexible space for tenants.

The prioritising of better air quality, natural connections, roof terrace space and a really delightful ground floor biophilic garden shows a real commitment to and understanding of the changing needs and views of tenants, especially in our postpandemic world.”

The scene-setting ground floor lounge needed to be a highly flexible space to accommodate many different moods and missions, as well as serving as a marketing suite for potential tenants. Visitors are first met at reception, which features a striking, bespoke reception desk with a printed porcelain, marbleeffect finish. Directly behind is a

halo-lit, timber-finish feature wall with brass inset lines in an angled, geometric pattern. A waiting area opposite includes emerald velvet high-back lounge chairs with dark timber legs by Gubi, introducing the lounge’s nature-inspired jewel tones.

The material palette of the overall space has been chosen to give an impression of warmth, welcome and elegance. Copper detailing and tan tones, inspired by bark, lichen and autumnal falling leaves, add warmth, whilst the rich greens of the upholstery are inspired by tree canopies in the woods.

Directly beyond reception on the right-hand side, a concealed bar, cloakroom and kitchen area offers a 5-star hospitality service for visitors. The internal garden area follows on directly, featuring a living wall on two sides and large-scale planting throughout.

The lift lobby leading off the lounge features a bespoke joinery treatment with brass detailing similar to that of the rear reception wall. There is also a change to the floor finish in the lift lobby, as well as a coffered ceiling mirror. The scheme’s elegant brass wayfinding system stands proud of the walls and references both the brass used throughout the scheme and the development’s brand identity.

The materials palette from the lounge design also extends to the showers and WCs, which feature marble-effect finishes and timber locker fronts. The deer in the Great Park are referred to directly here, with large-scale images of stags by photographer Neil Mcintyre printed digitally onto backlit IPS panels, created by Polyrey.

On the scheme’s third and fourth floors are two lounges with adjoining

roof terraces, creating a unique connection to nature for tenants to work, take a break and recharge.

The technology-enabled spaces provide access to fresh air and natural light and offer the opportunity for other activities such as yoga classes.

The terraces also provide alternative working environments, with a high work bench in the lounge section, as well as lounge chairs. Outdoor seating in a green metal finish is also available on the outdoor terrace sections, whilst integrated planters and hanging greenery continue to underline the indoor-outdoor connection.

pace is at premium in every major city, but perhaps no city has to contend with such tight dimensions as Tokyo.

The Bay Window Tower House in the Shibuya district of the Japanese capital was designed by Takaaki Fuji + Yuko Fuji Architecture and comprises a small family home and office. Taking their inspiration from traditional Japanese verandas, the vision was to create rooms that offer all manner of pleasant places to sit.

The tower was designed to exhibit different environmental qualities depending on the time of year, time of day, floor, and orientation, making the most of the varying conditions in terms of light, wind, and warmth.

Carbonized cork – a material that exhibits a low weight, high heat insulation, and ease of workability – was used to reduce the thermal load.

The different floors are connected by a spiral staircase. The architects selected materials such as wood, cork, and certain types of paint – materials with their own unique character that develop and flourish over time.

In harmony with the changes to the materials, the building was also designed to meet the similarly changing needs of its inhabitants. For example, lamps are integrated into the pieces of furniture that can be moved wherever they are needed, so the room layout can be easily adapted as the children grow older. “The uniqueness of the building is the result of its environment and the people who live in it,” said Takaaki Fuji.

Integrated into one of the bay windows is a Duravit DuraSquare furniture washbasin, chosen for its timeless looks and longevity. In the bathroom, a Starck bathtub is set into the expanded window area, offering a breathtaking view of the downtown skyscrapers.

DESIGNER: What were the main challenges on a project such as this, where space and access are both at a premium?

Takaaki Fuji: We designed our own residence and office on a narrow lot in the heart of the city where old and new streets are mixed together.

Since it is in front of a train station and has the potential to be used for a variety of purposes, we thought we should create a ‘place’ rather than a house. It is a comfortable place to live that will continue to exist even after it leaves our hands and changes its use and owner.

As a method of creating a place to live, we did not construct the space itself, but tried to consciously embody each of the casual behaviors of people and make the space stand up. The form used in this project was the bay window.

We focused on the fact that the legal dimension system for bay windows in Japan is furniture-like.

The width of the bay window must be 500mm, the rise from the floor must be at least 300mm, and the upper frame of the window must rise from the ceiling. The bay window is treated as a piece of furniture, and by wrapping it around the entire floor and laminating it, a furniture-like boundary is created around the building. Sitting, laying down, washing hands, cooking, bathing, writing, and many other daily activities can be done with the bay windows.

In addition, as a fate of a narrow lot, when a new building is constructed, a wall stands in front of the window of the neighbouring house, making it difficult to breathe.

We thought about how to create a form that would bring comfort to the neighbour’s properties as well. By dropping the corners of the building at 45 degrees and creating pockets of vacant land at the four corners of the site, we were able to secure

the behaviour of the windows of the neighbouring houses and allow them to enjoy light and wind. The simulation also confirmed that the octagonal shape of the building has less of a negative impact on the surrounding wind environment than a regular rectangular building.

DESIGNER: Flexibility is key for any living space – how have you incorporated flexible design principles into the home?

Fuji: The aforementioned bay windows on all sides of the building are the key point. In addition, each floor has the same basic shape, so it is possible to spend time anywhere.

But each floor has different elements, such as the kitchen, shelves, and bathroom, and the view from the windows changes drastically as you go up one level, giving a drastically different impression of the space.

DESIGNER: What was the thinking behind the choice of materials used within the house?

Fuji: The lifespan of architecture is longer than that of a human being.

If it is to live for a long time, we want the changes over time to become

the charm of the architecture. So we decided to use materials that change over time as much as possible and show various expressions day by day.

Carbonized cork gradually loses its color and becomes rounded with its corners removed. Since it is porous, seeds flying from somewhere else may implant and sprout. The interior is mainly made of wood, with plastered walls containing mica, and iron parts painted with Ferrodor paint, which also contains mica, becoming dull and shiny over time. We wanted to create an architecture that would live on as a part of this cityscape.

DESIGNER: What is your own personal favourite design element within this project?

Fuji: This is the rooftop overlooking only the sky. Tokyo is a big city with a lot of skyscrapers and buildings lined up in a row. Whenever you are outdoors, you will see buildings. It’s a magnificent view, but sometimes it can be suffocating. So in this project, we raised the rooftop wall by 2.2m to create a place where you can see only the sky. It is a peaceful place where one can feel only the movement of the clouds and the wind.

“Our clients wanted a multi-functional island which was not only practical but also the centrepiece of the room. I managed to design an L shape island with a dropdown seating area incorporating a cooking zone, a prep zone, a breakfast bar to seat two people, with a wireless charging unit.

“The back of the island served as a dropdown seating area facing the media unit, with the seating including pull storage draws underneath the bench. We also incorporated large pan draws to give the client maximum storage and organisation options. Finally, the gorgeous Silestone calacatta gold worksurface cleverly wraps this beautifully designed island which contrasts against the dark cabinetry while bringing warmth and a touch of luxury to this colour palette.”

“The pocket door system pantry creates a space where the user can store all of their clutter.

However, on opening, they are greeted with beautiful chunky shelves with integrated lighting and a 50mm quartz worksurface. Not only does this space serve as storage, but it also doubles up as a very practical prep station. The pocket door first opens like a normal door but cleverly slides neatly into the wall either side of the cabinet.”

“A truly multifunctional hob. We combined a downdraft Neff FlexInduction hob which houses an extractor fan, pairing this with a domino gas hob, giving the chef freedom of choice when cooking.”

“The tall run of units also incorporates the very latest Neff N90 multifunction oven with steam feature, a compact oven microwave, and a warming draw, giving the chef the perfect set up to prepare for a family feast. On the cooling front, we housed a separate full height Liebherr fridge and a full height integrated Liebherr freezer with a built-in ice maker, both operated by a motorised push to open system.”

“I managed to design this tricky space into a bar area with a stunning Dekton column. The bar features two wine coolers, a 3-in-1 boiling water tap and seating for one. We managed to cleverly mix glass, mirror and wood, contrasted by the rugged Dekton Laurent, topped off with some feature lighting.”

One last thing from this month’s magazine…

Future Heritage is a ‘show within a show’ at Decorex (which takes place at Olympia London, 10-13 October).

It started as the central feature at the event in 2014 and each year showcases some of the best British-based designers and makers who create new work for the show.

“This year, I feel we really need some joy and delight,” said Corinne Julius, Founder and Curator of Future Heritage at Decorex. The arts and design critic added: “For this year’s show, I have chosen makers and designer who celebrate colour and pattern, but who also revel in the power of touch, something most of us have been deprived of during the pandemic.”

The work includes unique pieces created by designers who have pushed their creativity to the limits in producing new and unexpected work, often combining traditional materials with new processes. Julius added: “It is a wonderful opportunity to share their skills with a wider audience who are in a position to commission them for their own projects. Since the start, many have sold work or been commissioned by Decorex visitors, and I’m sure the 2021 cohort will prove equally appealing.”
