NATHAN ANTHONY速 MADE IN CALIFORNIA
www.nathananthonyfurniture.com The Bonn Sofa, Winner 2015, Sofa Category Tina Nicole, Designer
It is a very busy time of year in the design et al offices at the moment; as well as our usual publications and awards, we are extremely excited as next month will be our Tenth Anniversary Issue! A lot has changed in design over the past decade, but it has been extremely interesting to look back over past issues, see how trends have come and gone and, in some cases, come back again. It is testament to the quality of professional designers that I would happily feature projects from our early issues now - they really have ‘stood the test of time’. It is also humbling
to see the companies who have worked with us year after year. Both design et al Magazine and the awards have grown enormously from launch and I am excited to see where the next ten years will take us. Over the coming months, we will be previewing many of the participating companies from this year’s International Design & Architecture Awards, which take place in September. Entries are still being accepted in many categories, but places are strictly limited so please do contact us if you have not yet got round to submitting your entry: awards@design-et-al.co.uk Until next month, Best regards, Joanne

Awards News Versatile Villa Living
The Homely Villa by LUXUR Design Pte Ltd Situated on a prominent site, overlooking a natural forest, this two storey villa redefines a new language by going beyond the appearance. In fact this is a place the owner calls home for retirement, a touching shelter for all their children who are staying apart from the family, to be warmly welcomed home during their yearly visit. By embracing clean lines and the open floor plan, the owner of the villa, is literally looking for the balance in between practicality and aesthetics. No particular style was requested by the client. However, the designer worked closely collecting individual demands from each family member for what they wished to experience in their room as well as the mutual areas. This beautiful villa has turned out to be a dymanic dwelling, perfect for all the residents. Apart from the beautiful scenery and great working trust in between both designer and client, the design worked so well because the story behind every single design idea plays a big part to fulfill the outcome. In order to ensure the optimum design theme became a reality, Luxur Design are delighted that their client offered them a sufficient time frame to source and purchase the best furniture, wallcovering and materials required from all over the world.
Timeless and Tactile Skyline Views Jasper by Liza Evans Interior Design Located in Rincon Hill, one of San Francisco’s fastest-growing neighbourhoods, the client’s brief was to do a complete re design of an apartment in the Jasper building, a new, 430’ high-rise where residents enjoy high-end, hi-tech services, such as interactive touch screen technology for valet parking, 24/7 concierge, car charging stations and a dog washing and grooming station. The open plan, 3-bed, 2-bath apartment has floor-to-ceiling windows with views of the Bay Area skyline, a wealth of natural daylight and 1400 sq. ft. of floor space. The inspiration for the apartment was film noir and the design concept was to blend present-day luxury with a mid-century design aesthetic. The client was keen to maximize the use of the open floor plan which was achieved by making spaces multi-functional using zoning techniques – the open plan kitchen needed to be a comfortable place to eat breakfast and elegant enough to be transformed into a formal dining space. He also wanted entertaining zones which worked for everyday living – a bar area, a library, dining area and a relaxation lounge and, above all, to maximize the stunning views. Subtle touches of timeless, tactile, accessories bring a homely sophistication and visual warmth. Cashmere throws sit comfortably with woven raffia furniture which is finished with nail head detailing. A mixture of wool and hide rugs compliment the wooden flooring and provides contrasting textures underfoot. The design works well as distinguishable living spaces have been created within an open plan design providing multi-functionality as well as surprising zones of intimacy. The natural colour palette compliments the abundance of natural daylight and the stunning visual impact of the Bay Area skyline.

Maximising Space and Light
The Heritage Collection, Parkgate House by Banda Property Banda Property aim to create homes of beauty. The finest living space possible combining the ultimate in contemporary design for modern living and comfort with traditional craftsmanship to create awe-inspiring style inside and out. The two apartments in this project are part of the Heritage Collection and as such were briefed to be the showcase element of the Parkgate House renovation, and the second and final stage of the development, the first stage of which sold out within 24 hours of launch. The design was to present lateral living on a superior level, 2,000 sq ft of open plan living space and 500 sq ft each for the bathrooms and master bedroom. It was to create a sleek, highly functional, highly luxurious and yet understated living environment reflecting its location. Space is absolutely central to the design brief for the Heritage Collection. Prime features comprise of vast living areas, unusually tall ceilings (3.3m) and beautifully restored expansive arch windows. The direction was to give maximum space and light, and the windows side by-side give a virtually un-interrupted dual aspect. The two apartments are designed to make a classical statement juxtaposed with modern living. Future proofing features such as under-floor heating throughout, built-in sound, air conditioning and recessed LED lighting were designed to be controlled by tablet or mobile devices for ease and comfort. Stileman Lighting Design created an exquisite lighting scheme that truly ties this design together. Luxurious design and finishes were central to the design direction and the high quality Carrara marble, in large proportions, ensures this in both the kitchen and bathrooms While leading the design Banda insisted on carefully selecting UK artisans and experts in their respective design fields to achieve the very best spaces for supreme living and modern entertaining.
Comfortable and Spacious Living Green Wall House by ADX Architects
The house has an eastwest orientation, the front facade faces almost directly west. The clients were concerned about the western sun, however, the views from the front were superior to the rear. The challenge was to provide views whilst not compromising on natural light, ventilation and privacy. The client’s needs were simply to provide for a comfortable and modern abode that would allow for their family to spend memorable times and stay closely knitted. It was envisioned the home would be sustainable as well, hopefully for the generations to come. The team’s design used a green wall as a buffer zone to detach the house slightly from the neighbouring house, giving an impression of it being detached. The front of the house is articulated with horizontal screens that helped to screen western sunlight whilst at the same time allow for views out from the bedroom. The wall acts as a natural air filtration system, removing toxins and releasing oxygen to the environment. It also acts as a subtle noise barrier with its lush greenery. The clients wanted the living area to be comfortably spacious and the dining and kitchen were important social areas. In terms of comfort, the bedrooms and bathrooms had to be designed with user in mind. The clients and the designers worked closely together to create the perfect house. From the arrangement of the furniture in the bedrooms to the selections of finishes and sanitary wares and fittings, ADX Architects catered to the owners individual expression throughout.
Design Et Al 17
Traditionally Perfect Forest Hill by Laura Stein Laura Stein Interiors has taken Toronto by storm with her lucious designs. One of her latest projects is this beautiful traditional home in Forest Hill. The designer’s favourite element in this design is the black wallpaper with a subtle gold fleck used in the dining room. It works to tie the two rooms together, and gives a dramatic quality/atmosphere to the space. Laura decided to use it only on the main wall so it would act as a backdrop and not overwhelm the room. When seen from the living room it looks like an extension of that space, but it has enough personality to stand on its own and make the dining room a very distinctive area. The rooms have a wealth of character. The layering of materials, the mix of colour, and the variety of textures make these spaces vibrant yet formal. The interplay between the architectural details and the shapes of the furniture were carefully considered. Open and adjacent to each other, each room needed to relate to the other while maintaining their own distinct look. The client’s taste was contemporary, but warm and comfortable. They liked strong hints of colour and bold contrasts in blue, red and orange. The client wanted to move in as quickly as possible so the design team had to decorate and make this house stylish and beautiful in a very limited time frame.
Intricate and Historical Grand Country House by Patrick Ahearn Architect LLC Grand Country House is an intimate, historically inspired country home that celebrates the natural topography and arborous nature of its site. Although the home is newly constructed, it looks and feels as though it has stood for a long time, rooted in its site and in scale with its surroundings. The densely wooded site and its location abutting conservation land, required additional review and approval from the Weston Conservation Commission. The site had to be setback from natural resources and wetlands, conservation land, and public access to walking trails. This was a significant challenge, as the team were given a large brief from thier client, however the designers were able to take advantage of the existing topography and work within the site parameters to create a full height walkout lawn level spanning the left side of the home. This allowed the majority of the client’s specific requirements and specifications for the project to be placed on this lower level, and in doing so reduced the footprint of the overall house while achieving the needs of the client. The potential oversizing of the house on the proposed site was avoided and their design was unanimously approved by all town boards that had jurisdiction over the project. The solution resulted in long views out to the landscape from the interior spaces, furthering the relationship of interior and exterior space.

“ The client’s brief asked for a contemporary and elegant primary residence with ample indoor and outdoor space to entertain guests and the owner’s extended family in a variety of formal and informal settings. ”

furnishings. Junkin used intricate pieces from Holly Hunt Design throughout the home to complement the design and additional luxury-brand quality.
Dorothee Junkin Design Studio designs are driven by the desire to create unique environments based on diverse narrative concepts and tailored solutions for the various spaces. Their projects are highly influenced by the context of the property as well as a client’s individual needs and aspirations. They have an international perspective when it comes to design and source finishes and decor from all over the world to achieve a signature style that is unique, thoughtfully balanced, practical and often unexpected. Providing a highly personalized design service, they strongly believe that every detail matters as an integral part of the overall design, to give each and every space the character and individuality it deserves. Every project is as unique as the client for whom it is designed.
A well considered design concept allows a seemingly effortless flow from one area to the next while imbuing each of the social primary spaces as well as the more private secondary spaces with its own distinct feel. Every room and every detail mattered as an integral part of th design for not just a residence, but for a home for one specific client: “Although our house is quite large, it does not feel cold or intimidating the way some houses can. It’s warm and inviting and has inspired both quiet nights inand fun family get-togethers, all of which come with amazing memories. For us, that’s really what makes a house a home.”
The contemporary new build Vero Beach residence offers magnificent oceanfront living in a stunning setting surrounded by lush gardens. Completed in summer 2014, the 18,400 sq ft residence occupies almost the entire width of 200 feet of ocean frontage, thus maximizing the ocean views from all primary rooms. Two pool decks, one infinity pool along the Eastern oceanfront and one pool in the secluded Western gardens provide sunny and shaded outdoor areas from the early morning to the early evening. Large sliding glass doors and thoughtfully placed furniture offer a seamless indoor-outdoor living across the whole ground floor. The client’s brief asked for a contemporary and elegant primary residence with ample indoor and outdoor space to entertain guests and the owner’s extended family in a variety of formal and informal settings. Given the rather understated style of the architecture, the client wished to avoid replicating the typical “Florida beach house” and was curious to see what an international design outlook could bring to the space. With this in mind, DJDS created elegant interiors, which combined international design influences. this was achieved by bringing together artfully applied custom lighting installations, textures, furniture sourced from all over the world, finds from the owner’s travels, vintage pieces and a variety of custom designed
30 Design Et Al
Upon entering the home the sense of warmth is palpable and allows for the instant appreciation of the intricate stunning design. The living room has the grandeur of a luxury hotel lobby which is simply breath taking. The hanging installations on the 20 ft+ high ceilings complete the room. The floor-toceiling windows make the room appear even larger than it already is which says a lot about the size of this entire home. The use of the rust furniture with the neutral tones gives it a beachy feel in the most luxurious and elegant way. Junkin said that throughout this entire project, her favourite aspect of this home was the creation of her signature pieces. She said. “At DJDS a strong focus lies on the creation of custom signature pieces for every project. For Vero Beach we designed several large custom lighting installations for the primary doubleheight spaces in the formal living room, dining room and the foyer.” She also noted the lighting installations that were collorborated with Sharon Martin when she said, “The two corresponding lighting installations of the formal living room were designed in collaboration with and manufactured by Sharon Marston, London. It was an exciting design process and once such unique signature pieces were installed, the client walked away with something truly special.”

Located in an iconic and grand mansion block in Bayswater, Elicyon undertook the refurbishment of the apartment and have created an exquisite home finished to superlative standards. The key aspect of this project was the master bedroom. Elicyon undertook the refurbishment of this apartment and have created an elegant bedroom. The private client sought an impressive boutique hotel quality to the bedroom. The specific elements of the brief were to retain the existing wardrobe joinery and the art was to be sourced post-completion to complement the design. This brief was a fairly open one, with the client placing their trust in Elicyon to create something magnificent.
36 Design Et Al
The brief was met through an adept combination of sourcing the finest materials and designing bespoke furnishings to create a truly outstanding finish. The neutral and calming colour palette contrasts beautifully with the bright accessories and detailing, and the use of soft and luxurious materials create a genuine boutique hotel feel. The existing wardrobes were skillfully transformed with a change of colour and the addition of faux shagreen to the inserts of the front face of the doors. The bespoke headboard is a focal point of the room, with its satin upholstery contrasting beautifully with the ethereal bespoke carved art silk rug. The exclusivity of the bedroom culminates in the bespoke artwork, commissioned to complement the shades of the colour palettes in the room. Cecila Halling, Creative Director for Elicyon explained that the clients wanted them to create a family home with an adventurous design. “Our clients wanted us to create a comfortable and liveable family home whilst they were willing to be adventurous with the design and colour scheme, which is a great combination,” she said. “Their inclination for metallics inspired the feature wall we created in the reception by incorporating a bespoke piece of art specially commissioned by Based Upon. Alongside an abstract skyline design in different textures of brass and bronze, this really catches the eye on entering the room.” Halling was most drawn to the beautiful bespoke art within the room, as she said this was her favourite aspect of this entire project. “We followed suit in the other rooms in commissioning an artist to create oil paintings to complement our colour palettes throughout, conjugating each element to create a genuine bespoke look,” said Halling. As well as the bespoke art, they incorporated a bespoke chandelier in the house to tie the bedroom together with the rest of the rooms throughout. Halling described the chandelier and bespoke pieces as “gracing the space with warmth.” “We incorporated a bespoke Murano glass chandelier, as well as a sofa with layers of textured silk and satin cushions, and decorative lighting to grace the space with the warmth it once lacked,” Halling commented. They used the bespoke furniture to complement the space and the layout of the design as well as bring all of the individual pieces together.

The scheme was to marry a modern shell with art deco inspiration which is prominent in Casa Forma’s work. The property also benefits from spectacular

views over landscaped gardens and across London making this a truly exceptional family home. The entire home has such luxurious touches and finishes in every inch of the design. Upon entering the home a sense of tranquility abounds and the intricacies of the design scheme become evident. The neutral yet cool tones bring the entire design together and complement the inspired choice of furniture and accessories. The spa area included a dry sauna, as well as a steam room and a Jacuzzi. Dark black and white marble was utilised throughout the bathroom giving it a relaxing yet luxury feel overall. The client requested a large drinks bar with a quirky art deco look, that could also showcase their crystal ornaments. Space was tight either end of the dining table so the idea of the original partition transformed to double up as a bar separating the dining and living room. Inspiration was taken from the rare woods found in Japanese forests. The clients desired a natural wood that was truly unique in its appearance. The art deco bar materials had to blend with the joinery finishes and deco look; bespoke handles were designed to give a statement to its cabinet doors. The bar also had to allow for a visual connection between the dining and living room. Faiza Seth, founder and CEO of Casa Forma, said that her inspiration comes from her everyday life. She said, “Our Inspiration comes in many forms, but most often it is through things that we experience in our everyday lives such as art, film, travel, nature, music and food. It often comes when you least expect it.” She incorporated her particular signature designs in this piece throughout the entire home. “ My personal style is contemporary classic with a touch of Art Deco which I feel is sophisticated and timeless.” She also said, “Casa Forma as a company doesn’t have a particular design style or formula because we deliver truly bespoke work for each of our clients. We always aim to incorporate their lifestyle, and personal preferences into our interior and architectural design schemes. One of our main focuses is to incorporate luxury functionality and timelessness into each of our designs, and for Casa Forma, luxury isn’t about the label or price tag - it’s about beauty, craftsmanship, quality and time.”

Obbard is property investment and development company specialising in the prime central London and Hong Kong residential market as well as commercial property investment nationwide. They act exclusively on behalf of buyers which include private and institutional investors from the UK and around the world. Founded in 1993, by principal Hugh Obbard, the company quickly developed a ‘one-stopshop’ approach to property investment, managing the entire process in-house. Bringing together the fragmented elements of dealing with different companies and suppliers under one roof, has resulted in greater efficiency, more control and premium levels of rental and resale values.
“ Our challenge was to take a standard period terraced house in a rather typical Knightsbridge street and create both more space and light in a genuinely exceptional way ”
This traditional Freehold terraced house was in need of total refurbishment. Obbard were tasked with remodelling and extending the existing 2,400 square feet and creating a home more suited to modern living. In addition to the limitations of being a terraced house over 5 floors, the property was Grade II listed. Prior to Obbard coming on board, a simple basement extension had received full planning consent. Obbard totally revised the consented scheme resubmitting the application. A basic one storey dig out with a conservatory extension was remodelled to provide an indoor/outdoor living space that connected over three levels. A living wall connected the outside space with the subterranean extension and the living, dining, kitchen and garden all interlinked with a natural flow. An additional feature was an historical 1970’s top floor extension where the ceiling height and full length picture window enabled the creation of an individual space which offered a multitude of uses from living to bedroom accommodation and media/study space as well. This particular propertys combines modernism with contemporary living to perfection. It’s a true mix of new and old with the grey hues and structured furniture combining with the original delicate finish

throughout the townhouse itself. The slimplistic modern kitchen draws the eye to large glass windows providing direction to the outdoor seating area. This area is an especially wonderful part of this home as it is here that the new modern extensions meets the old brick walls can be fully appreciated. The entire property is finished in a cool yet tonal grey and blue colour scheme that brings a sense of calmness to the rooms. Both bedrooms are simple yet have multiple patterns to create texture. The floor-to-ceiling windows allow natural light to flood into the room making it look large and open. The Living room is a fantastic demonstration of the new to old transition as the original fireplace sits comfortably with the contemporary furniture. Obbard also incorporated bespoke flooring from Nina Burgess Carpets and Rugs throughout the home to provide personalised finishing touches. As for the entire project as a whole, Owner Hugh Obbard, described it as quite challenging. He mentioned how creating more space and light was difficult. “Our challenge was to take a standard period terraced house in a rather typical Knightsbridge street and create both more space and light in a genuinely exceptional way,” he said. “ Adopting the obvious route for creating space we obtained planning consent for a basement extension. What in effect could simply have been a large subterranean extension was in fact cleverly designed to dovetail in to the existing living space with plenty of natural light and a striking visual effect. The natural light came via the design of the rear extension which connected the kitchen/living space with the newly created basement.” As for the visual effect of the home, he noted that the each space needed its own distinct characteristics. He said, “The visual effect came from the double height living wall which acts as an elaborate trompe l’oeil which brings the garden in to the lower floor. The remainder of the house was interior designed to accentuate the different living and sleeping areas so that each space had a distinct character yet retaining a coherent theme through the house.”

Applying their own renowned attention to detail they create kitchens that are more than just beautiful: they are crafted for living and function. Representing the ultimate luxury of having a room built to personalised specific requirements right down to the very last detail, a kitchen can be crafted in a wide array of styles, all sharing the Design Intervention dedication to the creation of handmade, bespoke kitchen furniture that is tailored to the needs of each individual client. The main feature of this project is a maximal modern kitchen for a couple that love to entertain. The client’s wanted a kitchen that was as glamorous as they were yet, smart enough to entertain in at all times and functional for a couple that also likes to stir up a meal. In this kitchen, they combined copper, polished steel and gold tones for a thoroughly, fresh and unique finish. They selected a vibrant blue heavily-veined granite for the island top. It provides a show-stopping focal point and a visual anchor to the space. A mosaic backsplash in blush tones accentuates the copper elements and the rose tones in the granite slab. The rose tone of the copper adds warmth to the space and a visual connection to the coral tones used in adjacent rooms. Trimming copper fronted doors in steel has allowed Design Intervention to integrate stainless steel appliances seamlessly into the design. Gold hardware keeps the look glamorous, linking the kitchen with the rest of the home. The intricate design of this kitchen works so well as it fully reflects the personality of it’s owners; stylish but approachable, fun yet elegant and a little bit of the unexpected all in one.
Minimalistic Masterpiece
Tour Odeon 21 by A2ZEN Consulting A luxury yet contemporary space in an innovative architectural masterpiece which is revolutionary for Monte Carlo. The kitchen needed to have a dining area and to be comfortable for family time. The kitchen was designed so that the sea view would be predominant at all times while preparing food, eating a snack at the counter or sitting at the table. The designers at A2Zen left ample access to the terrace so that there could be a good flow between indoor and outdoor dining. They wanted the kitchen to feel as important as the rest of the property. The designers wanted the kitchen to be a continuation of the living/dining room, so they wrapped the wall adjoining the living room in the same walnut. The entire space was designed with a special attention to materials. The property needed to be given its importance and needed to ooze luxury without being opulent. In the kitchen this was achieved with the wall panelling and integrated TV, secluded behind the mirror. The Swarovski Chandelier was the touch of plush, yet very sober with it’s leather structure.

Equipped to Entertain Wimbledon Family Home by Chantel Elshout Design Consultancy Chantel Elshout Design Consultancy were instructed to design a functional open plan kitchen for a large family house built by a local developer. The kitchen needed to appeal to a wide selection of potential buyers and integrate with the informal living area. The kitchen is equipped with professional appliances which could cater for large social events whilst remaining practical for everyday living. The island is equipped with hobs, preparation sink and a seating area facing the spectacular tiered garden. Handblown glass pendant lights and solid wood breakfast bar soften the look and link area to the living space. All of the units are finished in Basalt Grey & White Satin Lacquer creating a striking contrast against the soft, off white walls. The Silestone composite worktop has a beautiful natural texture and is extremely hard wearing. Finally, the glass splash back is kept neutral and adds another subtle layer of reflection against the matt finish of the units. Free reign was given in terms of the colour palette and the layout. The space in which the team had to work was ample, this meant that the island could become the centrepiece of the room whilst allowing for thoroughfare all around keeping the space functional and elegant. Chantel, CEO of Chantel Elshout Design Consultancy, said “We were given free reign to choose the colour palette and the layout. I love the different textures in the room as so modern kitchens can very easily feel cold and clinical.

Traditional British Heritage
Leinster Square by Alchemi Group Leinster Square is an elegant, Grade II listed stucco terrace that has been converted into 11 homes, all situated on a heritage garden square. As the building has a historic grade listing, the design brief was to create a space that incorporated traditional British heritage elements, while modernising the fixtures and fittings to benefit 21st century tastes. The overall intention and brief was to create a space that specifically references a Victorian past, with touches of the elegance and grandeur of the period, while incorporating the lifestyle needs and desires of contemporary residents. The key element in the whole Leinster Square development has been its historicity. By restoring several of the features to their Victorian and Edwardian glory, the design team have enabled the modern amenities and lifestyle led choices to show to best advantage. The combination of Victorian inspiration with modern living has allowed the Alchemi Group to create a unique building with its own voice and history. Traditional materials, such as a timber floor laid in a beautiful, heritage herringbone pattern, are an elegant throughline throughout the entire space. Meanwhile the open plan kitchen and dining area is equipped for family living or entertaining.
Kitchen re-designed for Modern Family Living Townhouse Drayton Gardens by Taylor Interiors
Taylor Interiors was appointed to completely refurbish this unique 5 storey -townhouse in Kensington, London which consists of four bedrooms and small yard. The task for this brief was to completely demolish the existing kitchen and remove old floor tiles. The original kitchen lacked the requirements of modern living and as such had insufficient storage and freestanding appliances. The brief for Taylor Interiors was to address these issues. The design team chose an Italian supplier to produce an elegant kitchen in traditional finish with corda matt lacquer. The tall units consist of two built in fridges, freezer, wine cooler and microwave. They have also added two pull out units with very practical trays to store all groceries. The backsplash of the main kitchen is tiled with a beautiful mosaic, created from a combination of glass and natural stone. The extractor is hidden in the upper unit. The two slats of granite used to make the worktop were specifically chosen by the team, who went directly to the stone supplier. Yvette Taylor, CEO of Taylor Interiors, said “The kitchen is incredibly practical. It offers sufficient storage for everything. The family has four complete sets of dinnerware, glass ware and cutlery. It all perfectly fitted into our kitchen.

Calm and Inviting
Bathroom by Janey Butler Interiors This project was part of a total renovation with all new interior architectural changes to be made to a stunning 300 year old two storey Old Stables. The new bathroom was finished with a calming colour scheme and using natural materials, incorporating Italian porcelain concrete wall tiles and wood effect floor tiles, this project is the first time these tiles were used in this country. They have been laid in a stylish herringbone style format with underfloor heating throughout. The lighting scheme was given particular consideration and the final choices were a stunning Ochre LED Bronze Lighting Sculpture and John Cullen spot ceiling lights, and LED recess lighting, all on a Crestron Lutron Home automated system. The choice of bathroom furniture was made with equal care: Bagnodesign egg bath with Vola fittings used throughout in brushed stainless steel and a stylish concrete diamond cut mitered floating tile shelf with cut through structural glass detail was installed. To create a soft glow in the light original Venetian PlasterSilver leaf artwork in a stunning complementing colour scheme was incorporated. Natural coloured Yves De Lorme bath towels, Aesop organic natural bath products from Australia, and a drift wood stool with faux fur rabbit fur adding soft textures to this space. This particular room works so well within the design of the rest of the house due to the calming natural colours and materials with elegant details and subtle lighting. Janey Butler Interiors have created a luxurious, calm, spa feel to this exquisitely relaxing bathroom.

Out with the Old and In with the New
Townhouse Drayton Gardens by Taylor Interiors The task for Taylor Interiors was to completely demolish the original bathroom. The scheme for the layout was changed entirely and new plumbing and electrics installed. The design included an elegant freestanding bath supplied by Noken, which was accompanied by Hansgrohe Starck floor tap. Taylor Interiors added a contemporary style double basin made from offwhite coloured corian above which were positioned practical drawers for storage finished in taupe glossy lacquer. The entire wall on the side of the washing table was tiled with beveled mirror. The designers added large cornices to the ceiling to give the room a more sophisticated look. The walls are decorated with beautiful Romo wallpaper which incorporates Jessica Zoon art. The shower partition is constructed using a single transparent glass panel and the back wall is tiled with attractive glass mosaic, which continues the-off white and golden colour scheme. The recessed shelve in the shower has been cleverly illuminated by LED lights. A feature of this room that captures its individuality is the shape of wall tiles, which were inspired by the beauty of natural leaves. This bathroom is practical and spacious, with plenty of storage, yet the design has created an luxuriant room to be thoroughly enjoyed.

Boasting more than 160-feet of shoreline, Regalia is located on one of the last oceanfront parcels on Sunny Isles Beach, Florida, fixed on the southern border of Golden Beach’s two-mile stretch of residential houses that allows for unobstructed views to the north and the west. The organic, flowing façade stands as an iconic fixture and anchor for the future skyline of “Billionaires Row”.
“ Once inside, the open flowing floor plan and spectacular ocean views provide a serene sanctuary for owners and guests and an ideal setting for entertaining. ”
The Regalia 18th Floor Residence is a true masterpiece that results from the organic beach life vision of Bernardo Fort-Brescia, founding principal of the world-renowned Arquitectonica, the architecture firm behind Regalia. The property was exquisitely appointed by Charles Allem, designer and principal of CAD International. The extraordinary eye for luxury and balance, art and practicality, makes Charles Allem one of the very few designers capable of enhancing the spaces and elevating them into a lifestyle with the finest details. Interiors and public spaces were also designed and finished by Charles Allem, whose resolute determination to create a matchless masterwork resonates throughout every aspect of Regalia. It is an exquisite example of sophisticated coastal oceanfront living which exudes opulence, luxury, and evokes tranquillity. As you step out of the elevator, you are greeted by beautiful art work floating on sandy taupe linen wall panels leading you into the residence. Hand-finished natural wood floors in a similar sandy taupe colour and a neutral architectural palette provide a muted backdrop for the iconic elements throughout the residence. Once inside, the open flowing floor plan and spectacular ocean views provide a serene sanctuary for owners and guests and an ideal setting for entertaining. The oversized silk and wool area rug designed by Charles Allem embodies the sophistication and natural palette of the surrounding environment and creates the perfect base for layers of stunning furnishings and luxurious materials. The dining and great room walls are finished with upholstered leather panels and the stone surfaces throughout this magnificent beachfront home are honed to emphasize the sophisticated comfort felt through every detail. The spacious kitchen continues the natural colour palette and is fitted out with top-ofthe-line cutting edge appliances. A warm and intimate breakfast area provides a casual respite from a more formal dining.

The master spa bath features a freestanding oval tub where you can enjoy beach views. An expansive double vanity and an oversized shower with teak slat floor are just a few of the wealth of amenities to be enjoyed in this impressive space. With only 39 residences, one per floor, Regalia is the epitome of luxury and offers unobstructed 360- degree views of the Atlantic Ocean, Intracoastal Waterway and South Florida, through the 10 ft. high floor to ceiling sliding glass doors and windows, which mark the entire perimeter of the residence. The kitchens of Regalia will be designed by ITALKRAFT. A joint effort between Alex Xakoustis and Raul Gutierrez, two highly regarded experts in Italian kitchen design and installation, ITALKRAFT has become the premier consultant in South Florida for these three most important spaces in a home. Founded by Charles Allem in 1988, Miamibased CAD International, Inc. is one of the global design industry’s premier firms. CAD International is inspired by the vision of its founder, Charles Allem, to go beyond design in pursuit of provocatively luxurious lifestyles. As Director of Design of CAD International, Charles Allem drives a team of designers, draftsmen, architects and project managers to execute to perfection commissions of virtually any scale, scope, and consequence. For Allem, art is integral to interior design. His art-centric approach has made a splash in commercial projects like Hong Kong’s Mira Hotel, where contemporary chandeliers set the mood, and the W on South Beach, where an in-suite glass bar makes guests want to stay forever. Regalia is an example of how he integrates art into design, such as setting paintings with bronze frames into sliding panels and recessing art into the walls. Walls are leather panelled, and art abounds. “We are all influenced by where we live,” says Allem. “Miami right now is inspiring me more than ever before. There are more important architects and more great buildings. Miami is going through marvellous areas of change. People want things properly done. Before this, there was a fusion of everything. There is a global desire of international design with the Brazilians and South Americans. When you start to see good architecture, it means things have shifted. It is a great time to be in Miami.”

Prestige Global Designs is very diversified in all interior design styles. They create and build luxurious interiors worthy of the finest hotels for residences, show suites, hospitality and offices. The award-winning firm prides itself on luxurious design customised to individual requirements, and ingenious planning for maximum spatial functionality. Prestige Global Designs seeks to exceed the expectations of business and home owners that are accustomed to the finest life has to offer by transforming their living space into a showcase of prestigious living.
“ Walking into the rooms, there is an immediate and overwhelming sense of warmth and excitement as the eye-catching vibrant warm colours accentuate the surroundings. ”
One of their prized designs is the a luxurious sanctuary that rejuvenates the senses. Towering above one of the world’s most famous shopping districts, The Orchard Residences in Singapore represents the pinnacle of luxury available only to a privileged few. The project’s client gave Prestige Global Designs a design brief calling for living spaces to be crafted from the highest quality materials and furnished with timeless accessories from the world’s most iconic brands such as Versace Home, Armani Casa, Fendi Casa, Dior and Le Mercier’s Fine Furnishings to name a few. The design had to showcase the building’s grand view of the city and ultimately convince even the savviest property investors to make one or more units their own. At the same time, while creating a setting for the most lavish lifestyles, the design had to be neutral to appeal to the widest array of customers. It was also important that the design carried no religious symbol or meaning. Working with the existing layouts, size and number of rooms, Prestige Global Designs chose a contemporary luxury resort theme. Walking into the rooms, there is an immediate and overwhelming sense of warmth and excitement as the eye-catching vibrant warm colours accentuate the surroundings. The layout and design itself makes this truly one of Singapore’s finest accommodations and it is totally in keeping with the sophistication of the local culture. The bedroom has a masculine approach to the design yet remains universally inviting. The lighting scheme enhances the accent colours which provides a gender neutral aspect throughout. Wood, marble, sandstone and plush rugs; vibrant floral motifs; and a neutral yet rich palette of gold, beige, brown, red, orange and green was used to create a refined yet luxurious atmosphere. Tea-coloured mirrors were used creatively to catch natural light

and further the concept of space within the property. Gold trimmings were also added meticulously such as around wall features, paintings and mirrors to lend a subtle and refined additional dash of luxury. Decorative touches and tableware were all painstakingly sourced from renowned design brands. As in all successful interior design concepts, lighting was an important consideration from the very beginning. Besides having general lighting for practical reasons, energy saving and easy to maintain LED lighting was used to accentuate prime wall features and paintings. For example, LED light strips were installed in the living rooms to achieve a luxurious atmosphere and accentuate the attractive sandstone-cladded walls. The main design intent of Prestige Global Designs was to create a highly luxurious sanctuary in which residents could relax, revive and rejuvenate. Therefore, elements such as silk soft furnishings, essential oil burners and diffusers, candles and candle holders, decorative woodcarvings, water feature and a combination of both natural and dark stained timber all helped to achieve the required ambience of a peaceful retreat from the bustling city beneath the property. In addition, the entire property is infused with the fragrant scent of lemongrass. Michael Ong and Jeremy Tang, founders of Prestige Global Design, said that their design inspiration for this particular project comes from every life experience. “We have a very strong passion in design. Basically, design inspiration can come from anything and everything around us – fashion, cars and even fragrances that conjure certain emotions and thoughts.” The duo also stated that they use textures, colours and materials to transform the most simple rooms in to the most spectacular rooms. “We understand the effects of textures, colours and materials in interior design, and uses these elements to transform the simplest room into one of splendour and sophistication to meet the unique demands of its clients, bringing their fantasies to life in a masterpiece of functionality and beauty.” Great attention to the minutest detail has enabled Prestige Global Designs to create a contemporary, luxury resort where residents can escape the crowd through a sanctuary that rejuvenates all five senses. The Orchard Residences in their prime location atop Orchard Road offers residents an oasis of peace and calm above one of the busiest shopping districts on the globe.

As for design, Bygraves says her inspiration can come from anywhere. “The possibilities are almost endless. I trained as a dancer and the creativity of the industry lead me to pursue design as a career, using my imagination and learning from everything around me. We have been heavily influenced by Chanel, evident in the quilting within our furniture designs, and I also love the iconic work of Hermes, Ralph Lauren and Bottega Veneta.” And as for Weiss, she says, “We’re always on the lookout for design inspiration- as a spiritual person, I love discovering beautiful natural stones and crystals for our projects, they have powerful healing properties and look fabulous as a coffee table centrepiece or focal point in an illuminated niche. We currently have some stunning examples on display in both our lifestyle showrooms, including quartz, amethyst and pyrite.”
walnut joinery and bespoke leather doors complement the carefully selected furniture from the highly regarded Hill House Collection. Tell us a little about your background: I was born in the United Kingdom and educated firstly at St Mary’s School and then the INSA University in Lyon, France. Hong Kong then became my home, working for Morgan Stanley and Barclays Bank. I also lived in Vietnam, Singapore and Bahrain, returning to London after 2 decades where I now live with my husband Dan and our two children, Charlie and Jack. How would you describe your personal style: My personal style is a hybrid of comfort and luxury. I love classical detailing and timeless shapes both in architecture, interiors and fashion and believe that elegance is achieved through a balanced combination of thoughtful detailing and beautiful finishes. Where does your inspiration come from: An innate sense of adventure has defined my life and shaped my design philosophy. I have been lucky enough to travel to many countries, summit many of the world’s highest mountains, drive a team of dogs on a sled to the North Pole and cross the Sahara on horseback! These travels have undoubtedly inspired an eclectic and uniquely diverse outlook and ensure my design ethos continues to evolve. In what direction do you feel that design is moving towards in a general sense? There are two interesting trends in design with serious weight and relevance for my clients: The first is personalisation, gone are the days when design houses rolled our mass design with little regard for individual clients backgrounds and personalities. Bespoke finishes, unique colour combinations and rare objects combined with monogramming create an entirely personal and unique interior for each client and they now expect this level of imaginative design. The second trend is towards the increased usage of raw natural finishes in a luxurious environment our clients are incredibly culturally sophisticated and do not always

Client expectations are driven by 7* hotel environments large his and hers dressing rooms and bathrooms are a must. The economy will rise and fall but Grade 1 and 2 listed buildings in central London will always be attractive to foreign markets as long as you can develop for modern living. Split listed building consents over many applications to ensure the maximum chance of alteration. Don’t listen to the hype, talk directly to the source. There are so many developers and developments in central London and lots of opinions alongside them, there are probably 5 specialists in London who really know what they are talking about and whose investment advise can be trusted.
How important are the IDAA awards? They are incredibly important! The UK has a wonderfully disparate design industry but we all come together under events like the ID&A awards, its a wonderful opportunity to be appreciative of others talents and to celebrate all the effort and hard work that goes into creating some of the most beautiful interiors in the country. What Projects are you currently working on? Palace in Kuwait, beach villa in the South of
France, beach villa on the Palm in Dubai, Castle in Oxfordshire, Private Jet partnership in the US, UK and Dubai, family homes in Doha and some beautiful listed properties in Mayfair, Knightsbridge and Belgravia. What are your aims and goals for the next 12 months? We are installing 21 projects in the next year (!) and I would love to get to the end of the year, pause (preferably somewhere hot), and reflect on what a terrific job my team have done in supporting me and ensuring all our clients are incredibly happy with the final result for each project. Second to this we are launching some amazing new products through our London Boutique and showroom in Doha. I am excited to see how ecommerce and our recently relaunched website will help us share these with a new and extended audience.
