Clear Yacht Interiors Shortlisted in the Sailing Yacht over 30 metres Award design et al is delighted to announce shortlist success for Clear Yacht Interiors (a Clear Group International Company) in the International Yacht & Aviation Awards 2015. The US-based interior design company will compete in the Sailing Yacht over 30 metres category with their project – Mari-Cha III. As an iconic sailing yacht, Mari-Cha III arrived at Derecktor Shipyards in Connecticut, for a major overhaul on a variety of items. Clear Yacht Interiors focused on completely transforming the interior wood surfaces, removing about 85% of the interior millwork, as well as designing, repairing, fabricating and installing select joinery pieces, stainless steel elements, stonework, specialty exterior fittings, upholstered items and lighting.
The transformation of the interior surfaces included over 6500 hours of sanding, catalysed body filling, fairing, priming and painting (Imron). The extent of damage on the veneer surfaces (previously wirebrushed and refinished in a white latex paint), lead to the decision of sanding all surfaces down to wood adding thousands of hours of “zen” sanding. This labour-intensive work achieved an overall smooth, incredibly deep luster finish with a level of perfection that exceeded expectations. The additional custom joinery, stainless steel, stone, lighting and soft goods speciality work all contributed to a minimalist-oriented design showcasing a fluid, clean décor which purposely reflected the aerodynamic, streamlined and sleek exterior of this record-setting racing vessel. www.clearyachtinteriors.net www.cleargroupintl.com

The main salon can be used for a variety of purposes, as it is divided into several sections. The fireplace with integrated library and cinema is an area for relaxation. Movable furniture and interior features mean that the user can alter the size of library and cinema according to individual taste and space requirements. The owner’s suite with its imposing King size bed, along with the main lounge, is the most important section of the owner’s deck. A writing desk and couch are placed to the right and left respectively of the owner’s suite entrance. Warm, earthy colours are used for the room interior, so that attention is not drawn away from the bed in the centre of the room. The colour palette of the owner’s suite blends into colours used for the the adjacent spa area, which also incorporates colours from the owner’s suite. The lighting also gives the bed a prominent position in the room and creates a wonderfully warm ambience. The inside of the bed’s rear panel can be customised with integrated elements such as a television, mini-bar or shelving. From the bed the owner can enjoy spectacular views of the ocean.
The brief for the Interior Design of S/Y In Love was for the design to be very flowing and simple with no sharp corners. Despite the large volumes and opens areas, guests can still can have privacy and their own suites, with living spaces quite large for a sailing yacht of this size. Similarly, there are various places on the external deck where guests can relax and choose to enjoy time together or in a quiet space alone. It was requested for the interiors to be designed in a very contemporary style. This is in direct contrast with the external design of the boat which is reminiscent of a classic sailing yacht in the 1930s. The result of this contrast is an elegant mix between the two styles that creates a beautiful yet not overdone sailing yacht
matching her owners taste and lifestyle. A scheme of light shades was decided upon, with cream and beige contrasting with darker wood and white lacquers shades. The use of natural materials creates a very relaxing feeling and a cosy interior throughout the boat. Sober lines and the furniture throughout the boat create a continuity and the interesting mix of wood and leathers with Turnstyle hardware accents brings a very classy feel. The result is an interior of an elegant simplicity. A motif inspired by Asian “Bas Relief” and styled to fit the overall surrounding design like wardrobe doors and enhanced with mirror trimming brings a Zen feeling to the interior. Ceilings are finished
in panels made of Spinneybeck leather, stitching edges in the way of French Famous leather craft brands as well as the staircases made of the same finishing on its leather panelled walls and elegantly shaped hand railings in wood and polished stainless steel stanchions. High quality fabric brands such as NOBILIS, JIM THOMPSON, PIERRE FREY and SACHO appointed with soft furniture and decorative lamps from CONTARDI with their contemporary design and polished stainless steel accents, create a very modern but welcoming and comfortable ambiance throughout the boat

M/Y ENTOURAGE by DRAGANA MAZNIC ENTOURAGE is a 47m tri-deck motor yacht custom launched by Admiral (The Italian Sea Group) in 2014.
and Calacatta, enchanting Tonelli mirrors, celebrate luxury on all levels, evoke opulence and make ENTOURAGE a place of private splendour.
The exterior of ENTOURAGE was styled by Luca Dini in collaboration with Admiral Centro Stile. The interior design came from the boards of Dragana Maznic, in collaboration with The Italian Group and Alder & Associates.
All furniture is free standing, remarkably comfortable and consists of signature pieces by Antonio Citterio, Patricia Urquiola, Roberto Lazzeroni, Limited Edition Cassina, Giorgetti, Minotti and Flexform, complemented with Jan Kath custom silk rugs, Ross Lovegrove and Tom Dixon lighting, and unique artwork produced for ENTOURAGE by Vinicio Momoli. Custom vanities, millwork and cabinetry were designed with obsessive attention to detail in collaboration with Admiral.
Its interior concept was born from numerous years of study and an effort to respond to a complex and challenging demand; to design a temple that welcomes, embraces and transports to another dimension. Dragana Maznic stated that their quest was to produce: “a sea goddess that declares perfection in all aspects.” They had a clear mission statement to achieve this: “Inspiring open concept interior spaces that are imposing in their proportions yet feel intimate and welcoming. Blur the transition from interior and exterior spaces; shower the interiors with an abundance of natural light and create unobstructed views.”
“ She is a remarkable masterpiece that provokes a spontaneous sense of well-being, where you can find and refresh your energy or get lost and indulge in visual pleasure. ”
The interior takes its cue from the strikingly contemporary, elegant exterior and infuses it with visual and tactile materials and finishes. The design strikes a balance between cutting edge and lasting appeal, between classical elements of luxury and modern sophistication. ENTOURAGE accommodates twelve guests in five cabins, with owner’s suite. The two VIP and two double guest cabins are located on the lower deck, and can be transformed into a triple bed cabins when required. These cabins are a styled in quiet shades which are brought to life with the remarkable artwork of Vinicio Momoli, who finds inspiration from the secret spots of the Mediterranean Sea, sun and music. The owner’s suite is located forward on the main deck with king size bed, own huge bathroom, office, walk-in wardrobe, private gym and a sauna. Also on the main deck is the spacious main saloon with dining and lounge area, here guests are immersed in luxury experiencing the perfect marriage between light and dark, gloss and matte, cool and warm, hard and soft combined with a rare indulgence in highly reflective material which offers intricate reflections to entertain the eye. Precise colour schemes are used throughout the yacht to create various moods. Subtle hues of aqua that reference high clear skies and deep azure Mediterranean seas are repeated to create a feeling of serenity and calm. Neutral tones of dove white ash, sophisticated taupe oak, and rich macassar ebony act as a backdrop to colour accents to ensure that ENTOURAGE is nestled in perfect harmony with its environment. Seductive fur and mohair furniture, silk, wool and linen area rugs, high gloss macassar walls, platinum leaf ceilings, back-lit white onyx stairs, testa di moro leather case goods, unique slabs of regal Nero Portoro

Guests are permitted to luxuriate in their surroundings on expansive obstacle free decks with 270-360 degree views that remain uninterrupted by interior furnishings or fixtures. Oversized windows maximise natural light, and again in collaboration with Admiral, sliding doors and a fold down balcony on the starboard side, which creates a terrace to enjoy the nights at anchor, were introduced on the Second Deck. These design features enable seamless transitions between indoors and outdoors. On the Upper Deck is found a huge sundeck area, the size of which is normally only found on much larger yachts, partly overshadowed by the hard top and featuring a bar corner, a large spa plunge pool, large table for ‘al fresco’ dining and of course sun bathing areas. The careful and considered choice of furniture and finishes here take a traditional concept and give it a decisively contemporary look without nostalgic influence, such as: B&B woven Abaca coffee table, Patricia Urquiola/B&B woven oversized day beds and hand-made crochet rug, sun pads and lush sectional by Paola Lenti. The design has created a place of complete retreat and relaxation. This space is also directly connected to the aft beach club, which is obtained by opening the transom door. This area is also connected to the garage where all the toys including kayaks, bicycles, paddleboards and a Seadoo, can be found. The launching system for those is provided through a crane which launches and lifts the tenders through a side opening port. This custom full displacement yacht is equipped with an ultra-modern stabilisation system which reduces roll motion effect and results in a smoother more enjoyable cruising experience. She features ‘at anchor stabilisers’ which work a zero speed to increase on board comfort at anchor and on rough waters. With a cruising speed of 12 knots, a maximum speed of 16.3 knots and a range of 6000nm from her 779900litre fuel tank, she is the perfect combination of performance and luxury. ENTOURAGE embraces and manifests opulence in every detail, object and accessory, with timeless styling. She is a remarkable masterpiece that provokes a spontaneous sense of well-being, where you can find and refresh your energy or get lost and indulge in visual pleasure. The end result exceeded everyone’s expectations.

This fabulous sailing vessel features interior design by David Easton Incorporated. The New York-based company had previously designed a sailing yacht for this particular client, but S/Y Marie is refreshingly special. She was created as a unique and sleekly elegant sailing yacht, transcending all believable realms of luxury. At the International Yacht & Aviation Awards on 9th May 2014, S/Y Marie was the winner of the Yacht Interior Design Award for David Easton Incorporated. In one of the most competitive categories of the Awards, S/Y Marie proved her worth against world-class yachts in the Yacht Interior Design category. On-board Marie, come in, go down a few steps and you will feel the special atmosphere that she has to offer. Food pours from the galley. Fingers run along smooth wood-paneled walls. A piano clings to the floor and hammers out tunes at any angle.
“ The enigma of Marie is beauty, thoroughbred performance and intrigue. She was conceived with love and a profound sense of purpose and spirit… Marie is a yacht to stand the test of time. ”
Sailing at a steady 15 knots – the Clients’ lives revolve around music and their love for the sea. David Easton Incorporated were specifically asked to design Marie around a Steinway Baby Grand piano – protected in a crate, as it would be almost impossible to install it afterwards.
The design works so well because of the simplicity and elegance that were achieved with the interiors, Gauche added: “It has created intimate pockets throughout, providing the vessel with comfort and all the modern amenities needed for today’s traveller.” Speaking about his final thoughts on sailing yacht Marie, Cobus Gauche said: “The enigma of Marie is beauty, thoroughbred performance and intrigue. She was conceived with love and a profound sense of purpose and spirit… Marie is a yacht to stand the test of time.” Founder of the New York-based company, David Easton believes the International Yacht & Aviation Awards are an integral way of demonstrating the diversity of his work to a worldwide audience: “I think the IY&A Awards are pivotal – it gives our brand an international platform and places us in front of an audience that may think we only design high-end residential homes, when in fact, we have designed numerous aircrafts and yachts over the years.”
All the furniture on-board was custom designed to be like music – there is a flow to it. The skylights, the window reveals, the mirrors, everything is in rhythm with each other.
After winning the Award for Yacht Interior Design, David Easton was delighted with the company’s success: “What a wonderful opportunity to be in this international platform of talented designers. It is a great honour to receive an award this evening.”
Cobus Gauche of David Easton Incorporated added: “Physically we wanted Marie to be open with an unobstructed flow of energy. We wanted to create light and warmth, at the same time it was important to keep spaces intimate.”
David Easton Incorporated are working on a several exciting projects in the United States, including the interior design of a Dassault Falcon 5X private jet, several residences across the country as well as a lobby in a luxury residential building in New York.
Opening the main salon to the lower salon was a fundamental move that radically transformed the living space. The traditional dark finish was replaced with buttery Anigré throughout the vessel. Marie embodies tradition and romance – but she also needed to be modern and comfortable.
David Easton plans to continue with this busy work schedule by designing a Canadian property and oversee the launch of a furniture collection: “I am in the process of designing a modular house that I want to build on a lake, an hour north of Montreal, Canada. I am also in the process of designing a new furniture collection, which will be launched in the Fall of 2014.”
Adorned in historic accessories, Marie has a classical atmosphere. She is equipped with German rapiers, English pistols, daggers, barometers, compasses and cannons galore. Gauche added: “It was a fun mission to outfit Marie with bits and pieces from history – each with their own story. There is a library containing a leather-bound collection of 16th, 17th and 18th century classics. Period marine paintings, and 15th century-style suits of armour – it all adds an interesting twist to the contemporary furnishings aboard Marie.” The integration of music, art and design is the beauty of S/Y Marie – the fact that music forms the symbolic heart of a massive boat
32 Luxe Et Al
built to race.
Due to new technology, David believes design is becoming much more accessible to people, added: “People can shop and search on the Internet, they can print in 3D, they have access to every source and inspiration possible. They are becoming a lot more educated with the process.” S/Y Marie’s beautiful and classic interior was an inspiration for everyone involved at the International Yacht & Aviation Awards 2014. The design world is excited to see future projects conceived by David Easton Incorporated.

Presented by Indio da Costa AUDT and In Flight Solutions, this spectacular airport facility will compete for the First Class Lounge Award in the International Yacht & Aviation Awards 2015.
“ Star Alliance wanted a very Brazilian Concept where passengers could relax in a special place and not in an atmosphere that is in any way similar to an aircraft, an office or any cold living ”
Based in the Botafogo district of Rio de Janeiro, Indio da Costa AUDT was established in the 1970s by Luiz Eduardo Indio da Costa as a small architectural studio. During the 90s, with the addition of Luiz Augusto Indio da Costa, the company expanded its area for product design and transport. The latest transport project by Indio da Costa is at Sao Paulo’s Guarulhos Airport - In Flight Solutions = Star Alliance VIP Lounge. The new lounge is operated by the Brazilian Branch (IFSB) of the Portugal-based In Flight Solutions (IFS) . Founded in 2003, IFS are a leading company in multi-services for air transport activity, including Inflight Entertainment; Part145 ULD Maintenance & Repair Shop; GSE Conception; Maintenance & Repair Shop; Ground Handling; Aviation Consultancy & Training Academy, amongst others. Star Alliance wanted a very Brazilian Concept where passengers could relax in a special place and not in an atmosphere that is in any way similar to an aircraft, an office or any cold living. A specific methodology was used to address and understand the user’s wishes. By focusing on specific needs of the targeted profiles, all travelling tensions are neutralised by creating a trouble free and enjoyable experience. Indio da Costa and In Flight Solutions acknowledged that clients want a homely feel – a warm place that could relieve feelings of stress. Without using an easy approach to create the project, Indio da Costa AUDT decided to utilise the heritage of Brazilian craftsmanship. The second approach was to be organic and fluid by using a diverse

range of kind of woods, textures, natural material furniture, tiles, raw strings, but always ensuring excellence and comfort of each piece. Cultural and representative of Brazil, The ln Flight Solutions = Star Alliance VIP Lounge provides a sense of sophistication to the VIP traveller. To create a more intimistic scale, Indio da Costa AUDT assumed the challenge of designing and developed big circular luminaries with just a single point of floor support, with 3,20m high and a cover with 5,0m diameter. Equipped with cold cathode with 15W/m to 2400k and with tensioned canvas occlusions, they create small cosy ambiances with 12 specially designed armchairs with pivot tables, fixtures and embedded electric outlets. An environment totally created for those passengers who need to relax or work. A string tunnel, big fixtures and a huge wooden panel are also featured to enrich the experience. The spacious toilets and showers facilities are situated behind this spectacular wooden panel, which are decorated with walls made of real river stones. Justin Erbacci, Star Alliance’s Vice President for Customer Experience & Technology added: “Over the past seven months, In Flight Solutions and its professional team have exceeded our expectations by delivering a consistently high degree of customer service and facility management as a lounge operator. As a business partner IFS have proven to be both flexible and mindful of their customers’ needs and highly appreciate their professional approach to commercial partnerships. In what direction do you feel that design is moving towards in a general sense? Keywords: space, warm atmospheres to be lived in, cosy feeling. The increasing importance been given to space and to the related functionalities create one significant change in architecture and interior design: focus on creating not “crowded” spaces with the introduction of few important high-end design pieces and be-spoken furniture as lighting devices. Space still means luxury and luxury means the possibility to enjoy big spaces. In the be-spoken free standing furniture and tailor-made details are really becoming an important distinguish aspect of the interior design. As in the project of a yacht interior a not dominance of structural furniture and the introduction, where possible, of free standing pieces, give more an homely feeling but at the same time a great added value allowing a lot of flexibility in any eventual future changes and refits. Name key themes to consider when approaching design in 2015 and beyond. 1. Emotion is the leitmotif that runs through all of our work. “Our philosophy is to really enter owners’ emotional worlds so that we can create new emotions for them,” 2. Start from scratch, a unique opportunity to develop new concepts 3. Art and technology combined with attention to detail 4 .Lighting 5. Research & Innovation on materials And key trends that we should be aware of? Fortunately Luxury Projects studio is generally not so influenced by the current “trend”, thanks mainly to our Clients challenging us with different and incredible requests, coming firstly from their cultural background. For the just mentioned reason Luxury Projects interiors are characterized by a cross-over of styles and the research of materials. We see yachts rich of colours and warm, joyful atmospheres in wide bright spaces where there is no contrast between living inside and outside. What projects are you currently working on? The romance of classic design combined with contemporary appeal, this was the design brief for luxury motor yacht MY LOGICA. This beautiful 45-metre vessel was built by the Italian shipyard LOGICA YACHTS and launched in July 2014. The vision was a navetta-style vessel that was comfortable, quiet and light-filled, with a rational distribution of available space. This boat would be designed to make the most of everything the Mediterranean has to offer. MY LOGICA had to be as beautiful as a sailboat of equivalent length, but as roomy and comfortable as three of them. Derived from Brenta Yacht Design studio’s renowned work in sailboat design, the idea behind the yacht’s elegant exterior styling was to import the culture and values of Mediterranean sailing into the world of displacement cruising to appeal to owners who are genuinely passionate about yachting and the sea. The exterior form had to be as much an expression of its function as it would for a sailing yacht.
“ The gentle profile, essential and discrete, was designed to maximise the interior volumes, whilst majesty and strength are displayed in the imposing vertical bow. ”
LOGICA YACHTS are steel/aluminium displacement motor yachts with stunning sleek design, engineered for the highest safety, excellent performance, range and comfort. A strong personality defined by Brenta incorporated the philosophy, the elegance and the appeal of the sailing world. The gentle profile, essential and discrete, was designed to maximise the interior volumes, whilst majesty and strength are displayed in the imposing vertical bow. With naval architecture from PLANA Design, MY LOGICA is a step forward in terms of sea keeping and efficiency. The key values are low consumption, long range and hull shape stability. Starting from the bow and working backward, the design has a coherence and fluidity with no surprises or jarring elements. Together with the clean yacht lines and the innovative technical solutions, an outstanding on-board experience is achieved. The superstructure was designed to create long sightlines through the yacht and maximise the contact with the marine environment. This superyacht boasts airy interiors with plenty of natural light, enhanced by the interior décor of London based design company Martin Kemp Design. Contemporary and sophisticated defines the interiors, with shades of ash greys, browns and creams. The styling is simple and clean. Her vast main deck saloon with its beautiful oak floor and stainless steel insets, is surrounded by luxurious mirrors, glass, polished ebony and lacquerer. Cream sofas and armchairs provide ample and plush seating either side for guests. The detail and refinement of the chic design is achieved with large patterned cushions and gold coloured coffee tables.
48 Luxe Et Al
The interior draws on luxurious materials such as Macassar Ebony, Striato Apuano and Cosmic Black marbles, combined with refined lacquered finishes that are anchored by calming floors and ceilings of stained oak with polished stainless steel “caulking.” Based Upon in London was commissioned to create a bespoke piece of art consisting in layers of pigmented resins & liquid metal hand polished to a high gloss finish, panels of a striking petrol blue, which provide a signature motif in the main deck living areas. Soft leathers supplied by the likes of Ben Whistler and J. Robert Scott in the guest cabins are married with luscious fabrics by Sahco in Germany and Holly Hunt in the USA. The custom designed carpets are by Matthew Wailes in London, while the bespoke lamps and lighting fixtures are from Altraluce in Italy, Carlyle in New York and Haberdashery in London. An “opulent minimalism” is the visual perception and the right definition to describe the mood of the interior. The final result is a delicious smorgasbord of materials, finishes and textures that delight and stimulate the senses. The main dining area is also found in the main saloon. It features a large glass table encompassed by white leather and dark wood chairs, above which hangs the most eye-catching, unique chandelier. The whole area basks in natural light with incredible views provided by the surrounding large windows. A total number of 12 guests can be comfortably accommodated on board, with 6 deluxe cabins, including a luxurious master cabin, one VIP and four guest cabins. In the lower deck, there is a separate accommodation for a highly trained crew of 9 and a wide crew mess. In the forward of the main deck, can be found an unrivalled extra-large 5.5 swimming pool; with down-stream swimming system, fresh and sea water; and a bespoke whirl pool. Spectacular, uninterrupted views can be enjoyed from around the pool as guests relax on the large, comfortable sun loungers. Her large capacity tanks allow for lengthy passages, offering the owner the luxury of being able to choose from a vast expanse of cruising destinations and routes around the world. In recognition of her RINA green certification, she has the honour being allowed to stay at anchor in the most beautiful, pure and uncontaminated marine areas. The key to producing a timeless design is taking something from the past and adding something from the future, which is more difficult than it sounds. And yet MY LOGICA is a beautiful vessel within which this has been achieved. She is an elegant, bright, innovative and distinct new concept of a motor yacht.

With interior design from the Genoa-based Garroni Design, the PRESTIGE 750 is born of the same values that constitute the DNA of PRESTIGE: a passion for innovation and a timeless design. Short listed in the International Yacht & Aviation Awards 2015, Garroni Design will compete with the PRESTIGE 750 for the Power Yacht up to 25 metres Award and Interior Design Award – Power Yacht. At just under 23-metres, the new PRESTIGE has been conceptualised for fuller enjoyment of life at sea, with exceptional exterior living spaces, from the extra-large swim platform to the spacious cockpit and generously sized flybridge. The layout affords privacy as well as safety and ease of movement on board.
“ The PRESTIGE 750 is as elegant as an Italian, seaworthy as a French sailor, and more liveable than any other boat in its category. ”
Renowned Italian naval designers, Vittorio and Camillo Garroni, have combined their talents with J&J Slovenian naval architects and the Prestige Yachts technical office to create a truly exceptional motor yacht. The PRESTIGE 750 is as elegant as an Italian, seaworthy as a French sailor, and more liveable than any other boat in its category. When compared with another boat of equal size, the Prestige is bigger. The master bedroom is unrivalled in size in comparison to yachts in her category. The master features a lounger, desk, walk-in wardrobe, large shower and a double-wide single sink. The salon provides room for 8 people on luxurious sofas, which also big enough to host a small party of friends for late night drinks. Up on the flybridge is the perfect area for outdoor entertaining. A large settee and table allows the owner and friends to enjoy a barbecue under the soft-touch retractable sunroof. At the bow, enjoying the sun is a must, with forward facing seating for six people and a sun pad for ultimate relaxation. Created by an international team, the PRESTIGE 750 fulfils expectations of a much

larger yacht. Conceived by a collaborative effort from French engineers, Italian designers, American and Swedish engine manufacturers, and an American naval architect, the 750 is created by the most talented individuals amongst their fields. They worked together in a continual quest for quality. New and powerful innovations from the automotive industry allow for a dependable and high-performance experience. This quest for the best talents, skills and tools, wherever they may be found, encourages openness and innovation, and continually improves performance. Established over 20 years ago, the Prestige range of motor yachts immediately found its audience. Passionate and demanding, Prestige owners sought to realise their lifelong dreams aboard an exceptional, refined motor yacht that was built to last. The brand’s success was founded on a few simple concepts: all living spaces on one level, 360° panoramic views, an independent owner’s suite. By combining these concepts in just the right way, the art of Prestige was conceived. Garroni Design, established in 1971 by Vittorio Garroni, Ph.D. Architect, has produced a variety marine projects, as well as mansions, corporate offices, hotels and restoration of historical palaces. Vastly experienced and highly respected within the yachting industry, Prof. Vittorio Garroni, has taught design, engineering and naval architecture. He also founded the Yacht Design School of La Spezia at Genoa University. As a short listed company in the International Yacht & Aviation Awards 2015, Garroni Design will compete for two categories with the PRESTIGE 750. The Ceremony, which will be held at the prestigious Hotel Cipriani in Venice, will see the world’s leading designers from the yacht and aviation industries fly in from across the globe on 15th May 2015.

JHP have achieved shortlist success in the International Yacht & Aviation Awards 2015 design et al are delighted to announce that the leading retail design firm will compete in the Retail / Leisure Space category. JHP’s store for global duty free retailer Dufry in São Paulo’s Guarulhos Airport is unlike any others in the world of travel retail. It is a highly colourful, vibrant and dynamic

The large circular glowing red ceiling drum acts as a great armature, facilitating the dispersion of customer journeys around it to different parts of the store. Brazilians are among the world’s greatest eye-wear buyers so the design agency placed sunglasses in this location – the heart of the concept. The brand new store concept to addresses two core elements: prepares for the huge

TYIN tegnestue Architects Shortlisted in IY&A Awards 2015 design et al are delighted to announce shortlist success for TYIN tegnestue Architects in the International Yacht & Aviation Awards 2015. The TRD Heinemann store will compete for the Retail/Leisure Space award. TYIN was asked to design this regional area in the Heinemann store at Trondheim Airport. The project has two main objectives. First, to show the uniqueness of the city and its cultural heritage. Second, to create something authentic and real, in stark contrast to the otherwise artiďŹ cial
60 Luxe Et Al
and sterile environment of the airport. Hiding behind the facades of Trondheims unique wooden buildings are the backbones of Norwegian building tradition, the timber log structures. This way of building is several centuries old, and still in use today. Trondheim is also known for its steel industry related to shipping and seafare, another integral part of Norwegian cultural heritage. TYIN began the process by searching for an old, traditional log house typical for the Trondheim-area. The log house dates back to the 1880s. After saving it from certain destruction, it was carefully dissected and moved it to an indoor building hall. The rotting logs were
removed, and the shape of the remaining structure dictated the design. The project is carried by miniature pier houses, a common trait of Trondheims traditional building mass. The miniatures are silhouette replicas of actual buildings. The steel shelves are burrowed deep into the timber logs, with each module containing a complex network of electric wiring, supplying the shelves with LED-lights. Remaining logs were cut into pieces and used to create a natural wooden back-wall. All work on the project was done by local craftsmen in a local setting. www.tyinarchitects.com

In what direction do you feel that design is moving towards in a general sense? As design and production tools become more and more intelligent through digitalisation, the reality of things will come closer and closer to whatever we imagine, making our manmade landscape more intuitive, emotional and organic. With regards to luxury I think designers need to strongly re-evaluate their approach to this category. The concept of luxury should go far beyond expensive materials and perfect craftsmanship in order to enhance status. Especially in yacht design one should wonder if luxury comes down to being isolated in an air conditioned box, or is luxury about your experience of traveling through nature and landscapes. What is your relation to the ocean around from your vessel? These questions don’t seem to be answered often. Name five key themes to consider when approaching design in 2014 and beyond. Every project requires its particular approach. As a designer I’m not concerned with general themes but project, client, context specific themes. My approach to any theme is as follows: simple and recognisable yet treated in a way that has never been done before. And key trends that we should be aware of? Tjep. commandment number seven: Thou shalt not conform to trends, thou wilt serve thy brothers and sisters by living thy own trend. If you could offer one piece of advice when it comes to design schemes, what would it be? Start with the big idea and work down slowly towards details. The concept should be formulated in one sentence and understandable for a non-designer. If you have non designer grand-mother or grand-father that would be your reference.

designed by Koop Himmelblauw. We are working on the Philips Lighting Application center in Eindhoven, a place where Philips will demonstrate the newest LED technology in a retail environment. We will soon start to work on the Brussels Airport Common Lounge for the new wing. A new restaurant design for Schiphol Airport conceived as art hub. My more personal work includes a collection of limited edition handcrafted furniture called: Bronze Age to be unveiled and Designblok in Prague this October. A designer’s work is so diverse – how do you manage to hold down a career and a life? Diversity is what keeps the creativity flowing. You are often at your best when approaching a subject for the first time. If you stick to one subject project after project it becomes harder and harder to innovate. For me a day at work feels like life, in contrast a day at the beach feels like work. I’m exaggerating but you get my point. As I advance in my career it becomes easier and easier to let go of work to concentrate on quality time with my loved ones. The ambition is still the same but the sense of urgency to ‘get there’ is less dominant as you advance. How important are The International Yacht and Aviation Awards as recognition of talent and achievement? It’s good to have a quality award specifically geared at Yacht and Aviation design. Recognition via awards is an important validation moment for both designers and their clients. My career was propelled when I won the Dutch Design Awards for the British Airways fist class lounge at Heathrow Airport.

M/Y Why Worry was completed to the highest specifications by Baglietto workers at the Rossi Navi shipyard in Viareggio, Italy. It is the seventh displacement yacht in the Baglietto 43 displacement-yacht series. This 43m power yacht was then transformed into a vessel of contemporary luxury by Portuguese designers Sà Aranha & Vasconcelos (SA&V), based in Lisbon, in collaboration with her Owner. SA&V chief designer and co-CEO is Rosàrio Tello, who helms the company with co-founder Carmo Aranha. Sà Aranha & Vasconcelos was created in 1985 and was initially geared towards designing decorative and lifestyle pieces. Through a lifetime of developing projects in urban or rural, public and private residential areas, the new challenge to create “mobile environments” came along with interior design projects for two private yachts: Maiora 39 metre and the Baglietto 43 metre Why Worry. The success of which resulted in the next sea project of the sailing yacht Maravilha.
“ The interiors are luscious and contemporary, crisp and polished, with extreme attention to details in a stainless steel, white, black and red combination. ”
Why Worry is a stunning, luxury yacht with a strong and muscular exterior designed with a white hull, she is the close sister ship to the yacht Ancora, also built by Baglietto, and retains the renowned Baglietto 43 ‘sports yacht’ look. The exterior was designed by Francesco Paskowski, Italy. She features a full displacement aluminium hull and aluminium superstructure. She is equipped with an ultra-modern stabilisation system which reduces roll motion effects and results in a smoother and more enjoyable cruising experience. This superyacht reaches a maximum speed of 16.5 knots and cruises at a comfortable speed of 15.5 knots. She has an impressive range of 4,500 nautical miles at an economical speed of 12 knots. The interiors are luscious and contemporary, crisp and polished, with extreme attention to details in a stainless steel, white, black and red combination. The main protagonists are the high gloss ebony wood and ivory leather, combined with extraordinary red and white coral pieces mounted on stainless steel pedestals. This colour selection is repeated throughout the vessel in the various living areas. The contemporary, highly sophisticated theme is complimented by carefully chosen black and white artworks. In the saloon, SA&V maximised the spacious feel and created the illusion of double height by placing mirrors on the ceiling. This technique used throughout the yacht

reflects the chic design and captures natural light and the blues of sea and sky brought indoors by the large windows. A silk-cotton carpet from Limited editions contrasts with the rich wenge floor, two Gica armchairs by Eduardo Climent rock on steel ribbons of stainless steel, and custom sofas are swathed in ivory leather, cotton, and chenille with horsehair piping. A polished oak table from Julian Chichester in the dining room is surrounded by Ligne Roset chairs with white leather seats. Softly illuminating the space are custom pendant lights incorporating stainless steel and silk. The Owner’s 260-square-foot cabin on the main deck is a secluded haven of tranquillity achieved by the white colour scheme and subtle lighting. The light and dark colour scheme is enlivened here, as elsewhere on the yacht, by shimmer and shine. Mosaic ceramic tiles, in the teak-floored shower, feature a softly glimmering finish. The alabaster vanity, which holds glass basins from Arclineas, has an integrated LED that provides a welcoming light presence. The Owner’s quarters also feature fitted his and hers wardrobes and an office. The guest rooms on the lower deck are elegantly minimal, featuring Tacchini chairs with reflective stainless-steel frames and crisp white linens with red accents. Silkcotton rugs stretch over nearly the entire floor, and sound absorbing ivory leather clads not only the custom beds but also the walls. Outside, hardy teak floors and weatherresistant acrylic-upholstered furniture grace the upper decks, including the flybridge, where dining takes place at a custom glass and stainless steel table. Next to the wheelhouse is the ideal space for soaking up those glorious Mediterranean sunrays. More formal dining with a custom table, Royal Botania chairs, and illuminated alabaster side tables from Atelier Alain Ellouz, can be found on the upper deck. Why Worry offers accommodation for 12 guests in five suites, plus additional space on a convertible bridge deck convertible for a further guest. There is accommodation for a crew of eight, to cater to everyone’s needs, whether they are watching a movie on the 52-inch saloon TV, a same-size TV in the skylounge, or soaking in the on-deck Jacuzzi. Throughout Why Worry, the designers strove to provide luxurious comfort, maximising usable space, whilst always taking into account the purpose of each environment. With such a high calibre of design and finish, there really is No Need to Worry!

Christened S/Y ‘Gigreca,’ this deck saloon sailing yacht features a composite hull and deck. She boasts a double engine configuration which guarantees fast and safe passages, without compromising the performance under sail. Built by Admiral – The Italian Sea Group, ‘Gigreca’ will compete for the Sailing Yacht up to 30 metres Award and Interior Design Award – Sailing Yacht in the International Yacht & Aviation Awards 2015. The Admiral Sail Silent 76 – S/Y ‘Gigreca’ creates a new breed into the blue-water cruising yachts; she is clearly a fast cruiser, offering a high level of customisation both inside and outside, all cloaked into a proven hull.
“ Outside, ‘Gigreca’ offers huge spaces completely dedicated for relaxation, sunbathing and ‘al-fresco’ dinners. ”
She is characterised by a full custom hard top made of aluminium and glass, delivering a shadowed and protected area to the all cockpit. ‘Gigreca’ features a dark metallic grey hull with dark red waterline stripes; the superstructure is painted in beige, while the hard top, aft roll-bar and spars follow the same striking colour scheme of the hull. The big size windows flood the interior with natural light, offering a fantastic seascape view, both at anchor and under sail. Below deck the yacht is incredibly spacious, offering areas usually typical of much bigger yachts, thanks to the substantial volumes offered by the hull. The same thing applies to the cockpit, where the sensation is to be on a 90 footer, however, ‘Gigreca’ feels easy to sail, both under engines and under sail. Fully customised by the owner, she offers four large cabins – one master, one VIP, one double berth and one double bunk cabin, each served by en-suite head with separate shower. This delivers unrivalled privacy to both owner and guests. The interior of the Admiral Sail Silent 76 can be organised in different layouts as this model comes with several alternative solutions. saloon, which boasts unmatched volumes and includes the galley. The interiors are further enriched by precious material usually found on motor yachts, such as marbles, onyx, several kind of natural leather, which have been worked to be as much light as possible, in order not to affect the performances under sail. Aboard ‘Gigreca,’ the owner is sailing the boat himself, together with family, and the crew is only intended to stay on board for short periods, helping the owner mainly for mooring operations and to maintain cleaning and general running. Outside, ‘Gigreca’ offers huge spaces completely dedicated for relaxation, sunbathing and ‘al-fresco’ dinners. Aft of the steering wheels, a flush deck area can be filled with cushions for sunbathing and also provides access to the opening transom and garage. As one of the biggest garage ever found on yacht of this size, ‘Gigreca’ is able to accommodate one waterjet tender up to 3.2 metres and a jet ski – one alongside the other. Without the need of an actual crew, everything is ‘push button’ operated. The standard carbon boom can host an in-boom furling main which can be operated from the two pedestals with an electric system. The mainsheet has two fixed points on the aft roll-bar managed by a magic trim, concealed below deck at mast level. During Monaco Yacht Show 2014 ‘Gigreca’ had the pleasure to receive the plate referring to the Green Plus Platinum certification and Comfort certification both issued by RINA (Registro Italiano Navale) ‘Gigreca’ is one of several short listed projects for The Italian Sea Group in the International Yacht & Aviation Awards 2015. The event is set to be held on 15th May 2015 at Hotel Cipriani in Venice.

This Boeing 787-9 VIP concept design was created by Svetlana Mojic of VIP Completions Ltd. and owner Salt & Water design studio. The design explores the different possibility that light and reflection provide - using modern white, black and a range of silver and grey tones to create a light and dark effect providing the eye with contrast, in conjunction with the use of various textures and material surfaces. As a winning project at the International Yacht & Aviation Awards 2014, the Boeing 787-9 VIP claimed the Award for Private Aviation Interior Concept Design. The brief for the design was to fulfil both private pleasure and business use by the client with the requirement for some unique features and styling to certain zones throughout the cabin. The resulting design certainly caught the client by surprise and aptly completes the large wide-bodied aircraft originally designed for low numbers of occupancy.
“ With a unique salon layout, the length way split of the room provides a cohesive flowing style. ”
Upon boarding the aircraft, the owner is welcomed by a large galley and foyer area. To the right, there is a unique and eye catching feature setting a certain expectation and always promoting a feel good smile. Navigating into the first of the larger designated zones, this area features a combination of owner and guest TTL lay flat seating, relaxation seats and side tables. Following this, a formal meeting and dining area with central table. The arrangement of a forward galley and the personal space of the owner or occasional charter guest located in the aft of the aircraft ensures that staff are not required to walk through these personal spaces and can serve from a forward galley. This allowed VIP Completions to satisfy the client’s requirements of ample sized bedroom and en-suite bathroom. Various linen and cushion colours are stowed on-board providing an immediate and simple change creating the desired ambience for the owner and guests. In using modern black, silver and grey are utilised as base colours – this subtle change either standalone or in conjunction with the adjustment to the lighting of the bubble wall and back-lighting, creates several possibilities for the aircraft to provide a different look and feel. With a unique salon layout, the length way split of the room provides a cohesive flowing style. The seating arrangements represents the client’s wish for the flow of water, and provides an area which is removed of straight
lines and immediately relaxing. Behind the bar and along the length of the salon where the ceiling line meets the wall panels runs a back-lighting strip which can be adjusted for intensity or a softer ambience and changed in colour to the mood of the owner and guests; either together or independently. This open plan seating arrangement suits formal and informal discussion, relaxation post dinner from the dining room, as a cinema or vibrant use for cocktail and entertainment occasions. The idea for water was met with anticipation, complex in design with investigation to regulation and to be fit in a non-structural manner. The innovative bubble wall in the salon contains a very low quantity of water which is up and backlit; and with a mirror finish behind provides for a much deeper look than exists. LED lighting colour is operated by an app in the client’s phone, or the control unit. Providing visual shape to the bubble wall the surrounding area is finished in black leather, the curved shape from top to bottom representation of a river, also reflected in the shape of the main salon seating arrangement, a subtle but effective touch. The Swarovski crystals are the perfect reflectors of light – the galaxy look to the main ceiling feature arrangement provides a star like display as the light catches the crystals and is a feature in both the main salon and owners suite, a perfecting setting when relaxing in the bed. The client decided no business or second class seating at the aft of the aircraft opting instead to use the latter third of the aircraft for personal use; with a full width bedroom, private study with make-up area and large en-suite bathroom with shower. In the ensuite walk in shower and bathroom doors are reflective providing a chrome space type look. Overall the private bedroom and en-suite are more than ample in size and complete the design concept. VIP Completions provides advisory and client representation for private jet aircraft interior and exterior completion; ensuring alignment of the clients requirements from concept to completion. The Mayfairbased company collaborates with leading designers worldwide to provide a complete client service including preparing project specification, design, contract advisory, and management to final client delivery.
