I appreciate that Luxe et al is a title that concentrates on design within the aviation and yacht industries, however I think it is time to look a little closer at these design schemes and the components within these schemes. As you will be aware there are many titles in this sector, but no one seems to concentrate on this area - as design publishers rather than technical experts, we thought this is something we should look at, something that is well overdue, perhaps. So with this in mind we are launching Luxe et al Recommends this month, a news section which over the coming months and years will feature
key products, new ranges, design innovation and ideas all endorsed by the experts and this really is the key to this feature – we ask leading design names throughout the year for their personal endorsements, the companies that they recommend and in turn we will pass this information on to you. I am excited about this and passionate about bringing key new looks and sharing inspiration by breaking down the details of the most spectacular design schemes. This issue we have also taken a look at a selection of key projects by Ferretti Group, Heeson Yachts, Horizon Yachts, Embraer Exectutive Jets, in addition to a sneak preview of some of the projects short listed for The International Yacht & Aviation Awards 2016. Until next month Joanne

My Logica by Logica Yachts LOGICA Yachts are steel/aluminium displacement motor yachts with stunning sleek design, engineered for the highest safety, excellent performance, range and comfort. Using Naval architects PLANA Design, 45-metre MY LOGICA is a step forward in terms of seakeeping and efficiency. The key values are low consumption, long range and hull shape stability. This superyacht boasts airy interiors with plenty of natural light, enhanced by the interior décor Martin Kemp Design. Contemporary and sophisticated defines the interiors, with shades of ash greys, browns and creams. Her vast main deck saloon is surrounded by luxurious mirrors; glass, polished ebony and lacquerer– lend a sense of opulence and substance, as does the use of leather and luxurious fabrics throughout. Alongside these design touches are unexpected twists: optical fibres woven into the rugs and there are unique lighting fixtures by Kemp, the showstopper amongst which is an incredible chandelier above the dining table that wouldn’t look out of place in the Tate Modern. A total number of 12 guests can be comfortably accommodated on board, with 6 deluxe cabins, including a luxurious master cabin, one VIP and four guest cabins. The key to producing a timeless design is taking something from the past and adding something from the future, which is more difficult than it sounds. And yet MY LOGICA is a beautiful vessel within which this has been achieved. She is an elegant, bright, innovative and distinct new concept of Motor Yacht.

Why Worry by SA&V M/Y Why Worry was completed to the highest specifications by Baglietto workers at the Rossi Navi shipyard in Viareggio, Italy, then transformed into a vessel of contemporary luxury by Portuguese designers Sà Aranha & Vasconcelos (SA&V). Why Worry is a stunning, luxury yacht with a strong and muscular exterior designed with a white hull. The exterior was designed by Francesco Paskowski, Italy. The interiors are luscious and contemporary, crisp and polished, with extreme attention to details in a stainless steel, white, black and red combination. The main protagonists are the high gloss ebony wood and ivory leather, combined with extraordinary red and white coral pieces mounted on stainless steel pedestals. The Owner’s 260-square-foot cabin on the main deck is a secluded haven of tranquillity achieved by the white colour scheme and subtle lighting. The guest rooms on the lower deck are elegantly minimal. Why Worry offers accommodation for 12 guests in five suites, plus additional space on a convertible bridge deck convertible for a further guest. There is accommodation for a crew of eight, to cater to everyone’s needs. Throughout Why Worry, the designers strove to provide luxurious comfort, maximising usable space, whilst always taking into account the purpose of each environment.
Innovative Cabin Solution by SR Technics Zurich-based, SR Technics, is revolutionizing existing VIP design products on the market through the development of an innovative cabin solution for government and individually- owned narrow-body (ACJ and BBJ) aircraft. “We believe we have created a layout and concept that enables owners to make 100% use of the usable space, 100% of the time.” explains Eric Jan, head of VIP interior design at SR Technics. To meet individual tastes, the company’s designers have created the cabin in three styles – Classic, Elegant and Modern. As part of the design concept, the galley and kitchen areas on the aircraft become the heart of on-board life, accessible to crew and passengers. The design of the cabin offers flexibility and a comfortable relaxed setting. Further, as demands of an owner change, a freestanding interior ensures that adaptations can be made at a lower cost, which in turn increases the resale value of the aircraft. The product brings together advanced smart solutions that reconsider traditional layouts to enable optimization and flexibility of space; turning the ordinary into extraordinary. “We wanted to bring a new approach of interior aircraft with a new cabin experience. bringing an advanced product in minimized time with a highly competitive price. SR Technics innovative cabin solution is redefining the art of travel” commented Eric Jan.

“ We took up and won a tough challenge from an engineering, design, and production viewpoint, and today we can introduce to the world to an unprecedented craft, that turns into reality a new way of enjoying life at sea. The 88’ Florida writes a new chapter in Riva’s story - an Italian story that the world will, once more, fall in love with ”
Style, elegance and technology combined with impressive power and speed. Riva, the iconic yachting brand, has created the 88’ Florida, the new yacht that invents a new style and offers the opportunity to enjoy a two-fold - and so far unprecedented cruising experience. The classical Riva lines, which epitomize the brand’s timeless and sober elegance and the unmistakable style of the 88’ Florida go hand in hand with the technology innovation brought about by the ‘Convertible Top’, which draws inspiration from the automotive sector: this is how on this new 88-footer two sporty souls come together in one single yacht. The 88’ Florida is, like many of its predecessors, the result of the close cooperation between Ferretti Group’s Product Strategy Committee, the Group’s Engineering Department and yacht designer Mauro Micheli, the co-founder, together with Sergio Beretta, of Officina Italiana Design, which exclusively design Riva’s entire range. The new ‘Moon Grey’ shade, a light metallic grey that enhances the yacht’s slender lines, characterizes the first 88’ Florida and is in pleasant contrast with the ‘Bright Black’ shade details. The hull profile is truly unmistakable thanks to the innovativedesign continuous glazing featuring a stainless steel plate that bears the Riva logo in its central part. The large windshield and the steel roll bar complete this new yacht’s design. The ‘Convertible Top’ patented system The 88’ Florida is truly one in its kind in the entire yachting sector because of the innovative system that harmonizes two sporty souls on-board one single yacht: an exclusive Ferretti Group patent that has been installed for the very first time on this craft. The Convertible Top system makes the yacht convertible, as the word says, i.e. capable of shifting from an open to a coupé configuration and vice versa by automatically operating the hardtop that can cover the pilot station in the cockpit. Indeed, the Convertible Top system allows to rotate and slide the aerodynamic hardtop, thereby turning the 88’ Florida into a coupé model or to flawlessly integrate it with the deckhouse at the level of the dinette, converting the boat into an open yacht. The central area is organized as a large dining and living room - the perfect setting to sip a drink, have lunch or dinner admiring the sky and the stars or relax sheltered by the
18 Luxe Et Al
hard top. A linear sofa to starboard stands opposite the dining area, which is furnished with another L-shaped sofa near the table.
counter with two leather stools, beside which is the totem cabinet with the TV screen surrounded by mirror surfaces.
Some freestanding seats complete the furniture and allow to seat up to eight dining guests. The large central pilot station features three seats, left of which is a chaise longue facing the stern - the ideal extension of the sofa - where one can relax while experiencing the thrill of cruising. Besides the dinette with a large C-shaped sofa, ‘concealed’ by the hardtop, at the extreme bow the 88’ Florida makes available an additional relaxation area equipped with two sun pads, just before the technical area with the anchor.
The master stateroom is located amidships and enjoys the utmost privacy. Three steps - completed by a steel handrail and a second stylish handrail with steel uprights and horizontal bars that leave an open view on the bed and the large windows - lead to the incredibly bright, sound-insulated fullbeam cabin. The bed, whose frame is lined in leather, is arranged lengthwise and is decorated by an elegant array of fabrics and colours including to the linen & cotton (or, upon request, cashmere) bedspread, striped cushions and rug all by Loro Piana. In front of the bed are two wardrobes with stripedpattern leather doors, separated by the desk area and the vanity set with a pouf. The TV screen is concealed inside the desk and can be mechanically lifted and lowered. The elegance and refinement of the 88’ Florida’s on-board décor is further highlighted by an exclusive custom-made chair by Officina Italiana Design in the master stateroom. This chair has a steel structure lined in white leather and features two cushions, one for the seat and one for the backrest. The final touches to this contemporary design jewel are the leather straps and buckles found in the bed headboards in all cabins. The reading lights, also lined in leather, are the ‘icing on the cake’ in this magnificent suite.
Below deck, the 88’ Florida includes four cabins and as many dedicated heads, all located beyond a living room that can also be used as an indoor dinette. All décor solutions explicitly draw inspiration from late 80s-early 90s atmospheres, paying tribute to some iconic Riva yachts of those times, like the Bahamas - the first to be pencilled by Mauro Micheli: the yacht is pervaded by is a warm Mediterranean style, which the Italian designer himself summarized using the term vintage, reinterpreted in a contemporary mood. Wood, steel, leather, and lacquered materials have been chosen for the interior décor. The wood selected is warm, sophisticated elm, in the new ‘Manopesca’ finish, an innovative treatment that makes the wood look similar to fabric and of peach skin at the touch. Elm has been combined with numerous smooth and striped leather inserts, which contribute to giving the entire yacht a pervasive ‘vintage’ touch and whose warm colour shades remind of honey and ripe wheat. The on-board décor is completed by several stainless steel details and white and blue lacquered surfaces. More specifically, the ‘Blue Majestic’ shade (a dark, almost black-like, blue) chosen for many details, in the outdoor areas too, contributes to the reinterpreted classical style of this yacht. White, instead, has been chosen for the ceilings, where LED light strips have been built-in to brighten the rooms at best. From the stairway located right of the pilot station access can be gained to the dinette, which is introduced by a stylish handrail made up of stainless steel uprights and horizontal bars that let one’s gaze roam freely across the room. The open space features an L-shaped sofa to starboard, further enriched by white and aquamarine striped cushions, a central coffee table and the galley, along the portside bulwark, which extends on three sides while the fourth opens up onto the dinette. The furniture also includes a stylish, comfortable breakfast
Walking forward beyond the living room, a central lobby can be reached, which leads to the guest night area. On the left is an airy double cabin, whose volume and fittings are comparable to those of a VIP cabin, with the private head and separate shower. In front of it is the second guest cabin, with single beds, dedicated head and a round shower. The VIP double cabin is located at the extreme bow and receives an amazing amount of light through the double glazing that runs along its bulwark. It is furnished with two wardrobes and fitted with a private head with separate shower. “The 88’ Florida is a dream come true, a jewel of Italian yachting that we are delighted and excited to be presenting today,” comments Ferretti Group’s CEO, Mr. Alberto Galassi. “We took up and won a tough challenge from an engineering, design, and production viewpoint and today we can introduce to the world to an unprecedented craft that turns into reality a new way of enjoying life at sea. The 88’ Florida writes a new chapter in Riva’s story - an Italian story that the world will, once more, fall in love with”.

“ The architecture of project Nova exemplifies sophistication with its rich and refined detailing. The modern beach interior utilises natural materials with minimal artificial treatment, providing a strong connection to the natural outdoor elements. ” Sander Sinot, Sinot Exclusive Yacht Design Heesen Yachts have created a new breed yacht and the first to be launched is their new 50m Fast Displacement, full-aluminium motoryacht: YN 17850 Project Nova.
Omega and Heesen of designing elegant vessels with the properties of an explorer with vast storage space and relaxing area on decks.
Following the success of 65m Galactica Star, the world’s first yacht with a Fast Displacement Hull Form (FDHF), this new 50m motoryacht offers the same superlative levels of performance, efficiency and luxurious comfort in a smaller design package of under 500 GT. Rather than emphasising the elevated speed provided by the revolutionary FDHF, Project Nova is all about fuel efficiency.
The yacht was meant to make a strong and close connection to her environment, open and uninterrupted. Vast amounts of glass guarantee transparent to the outside world: full height windows wherever possible on main deck and wheelhouse deck, create long and continuous horizontal lines. Inserted into the bulwark, the high windows give close views to the water levels from the master state room.
Her light aluminium hull, relatively small engines (2MTU x 600kW) and Heesen’s minute attention to weight control means the vessel is not only less thirsty with a remarkable transatlantic range of 3,750 nautical miles at a cruising speed of 12 knots with only 45m3 of fuel, but also more spacious. The result is unique: a high-performance, supremely comfortable displacement yacht with reduced environmental impact.
To push the panoramic views to a maximum, this sculptural exercise resulted in a ‘naked’ stern: no interruptions. The scooped out bulwarks enable panoramic views to the aft on both main deck and wheelhouse deck. A characteristic inclined support develops from the superstructure upwards towards the sunshade on the sundeck.
Heesen’s in-house naval architects and the experts from van Oossanen, who devised the FDHF, thoroughly tested her newly designed hull at the Southampton tank test facility in July 2014. The results are impressive. Fuel consumption at cruising speed is a frugal 125 litres per hour and at 10 knots a staggering 85 litres per hour which makes Project Nova the most efficient vessel in her class. This stunning piece of technology is wrapped in an elegant design package with exterior lines by Frank Laupman at Omega Architects and interior styling by Sinot Exclusive Yacht Design. Her eye-catching superstructure, vertical bow and spacious fixed aft platform with a grandiose staircase leading to the main deck put Project Nova a cut above the rest. Her exterior lines break with Heesen yachts of the past, but still retain the sense of seaworthiness and performance that has become their trademark. The vertical bow, for instance, is not just a styling exercise: it also serves to reduce the vertical acceleration that causes discomfort for guests on board. Drawing design inspiration from open-air beach villas, the yacht features panoramic glass walls that offer untarnished views of the ocean. Project Nova is a “modern, innovative yacht with striking lines and a lot of glass,” says Laupman. “More like a beach villa in style with nature all around you.” When Heesen briefed Omega Architects they asked for a more aggressive styled exterior, with sharp edges and large openings in the bulwark to enable high, open views to the water level. So a new vision was created, styled in clean and chiseled lines. Nova combines the shared heritage between
28 Luxe Et Al
Her regular plumb bow bends into a high and straight bulwark line on a clean foredeck: the tenders are recessed in the deck. Her stern has an inclined design with Flanges bending downwards from the main deck bulwark protecting the long swim platform at the sides. The designer imagined the owner enjoying the end of the day in the skylounge or in one of the exterior areas, surrounded by nothing...but the sea. Twelve guests will be accommodated in six spacious cabins. The master suite is situated on the main deck forward and has a bathroom with central bathtub. The remaining cabins are on the lower deck: the forward, full-beam VIP suite has a generous bathroom with bathtub; two twin cabins are located amidships; and the two double cabins aft are both equipped with ensuite shower rooms. Guests have direct access to the lower deck gymnasium through a door at the end of the hallway. This layout solution protects against undue noise and vibration as the gym separates the guest accommodation from the engine room. From the gym, guests can walk straight out onto the main aft deck and take a dip in the sea after a workout. The fixed swim platform offers ample space to relax close to the water and a pantry with wet bar complements this delightful outdoor guest area. Nova’s refined palette of interior materials range from open-grain oak, walnut veneers, nero seta marble, white and bamboo travertine. These natural tones and textures contribute to Nova’s cool and cosy atmosphere.
“The architecture of project Nova exemplifies sophistication with its rich and refined detailing. The modern beach interior utilises natural materials with minimal artificial treatment, providing a strong connection to the natural outdoor elements. This connection is enhanced by the big panoramic windows which offer the user a vast view over the endless panoramas outside,” said Sander Sinot of Sinot Exclusive Yacht Design. Sinot commented, “The interior architecture offers the possibility of creating alternative moods and atmospheres in the same yacht by adding art, accessories and upholsteries, allowing for effortless customization. The architecture and decoration exist in perfect harmony with the staircase as a statement feature at every level.” The layout explores the multi-functionality of areas in a way that optimizes all available space. The intelligent layout combined with the design and styling creates the feeling of a truly spacious and luxurious environment. Project Nova also puts a priority on silence, the ultimate luxury. Heesen’s Mark Cavendish said that Project Nova should measure only 50 decibels in the owner’s suite with main engines on when underway and at nine knots during hybrid mode, that will drop down to 46 decibels. “Owner and guests will enjoy a vastly quieter environment,” says Mark Cavendish. To put this in perspective, 46 decibels is the sound of soft rainfall. During the Monaco Yacht Show presentation of Project Nova, Heesen invited Professor Barry Smith, who founded the Centre for the Study of the Senses at the University of London, to share his research on the importance that sound has on the other senses. “Sounds have an effect on all sorts of things, including eating,” said Professor Barry Smith. “Silence is not hearing nothing, the brain is always taking in information, what is going on with affect your mood.” Being able to run extremely quietly will not only benefit how Project Nova’s owners experience the other senses whilst on board, but will also be extremely practical allowing the captain to depart port before dawn without disturbing her guests. Project Nova’s keel was laid in the presence of the ABS surveyor last February at the Heesen facility in Oss, The Netherlands, and her construction is scheduled to be completed by spring 2017.

At the shipyard of Horizon Yachts, one of the most advantaged shipyards for tailor made motor yachts worldwide, there is a unique new yacht type under construction. In order to stand out from the crowd a completely different design concept was chosen. With a design and lines that could just as easily say “starship” as they could luxury yacht, the FD85 is no work of fiction, nor was it built to travel at warp speeds, but speed did factor into the design.
“ An advanced fast displacement yacht that blends cutting-edge design with truly usable living and entertaining spaces comparable to most 100-foot plus yachts ”
Horizon Yachts have added the Horizon FD85 fast displacement motoryacht, as a new model to the company’s luxury yacht line-up. Developed by renowned yacht designer Cor D. Rover and Horizon’s inhouse naval architecture team, the Horizon FD85 features a vertical bow design, which has been tested with Computational Fluid Dynamics; the bow design not only offers the desired fast displacement performance criteria but also increased hull volume for 25% more spacious living spaces, including a five guest stateroom layout. The FD85 has just completed one of her main construction stages, joining the hull and superstructure and is scheduled to debut at the 2016 Taiwan International Boat Show in Kaohsiung, March 10-13, 2016. “We specifically chose to focus on a hull form for the FD85 that affords flexible cruise speeds without compromising performance,” said Horizon Yachts CEO John Lu. “We also wanted this new model to incorporate modern exterior styling, tremendous interior volume, and innovative features. Cor and his team were the perfect fit for collaborating with Horizon’s in-house teams, and together we have developed an advanced fast displacement yacht that blends cuttingedge design with truly usable living and entertaining spaces comparable to most 100-foot plus yachts.” With a 23’2” beam, the new Horizon FD85 provides five en suite guest staterooms. There is a full-beam King master stateroom on deck, this Master cabin at main deck level has breathtaking panoramic views, that at the same time provides complete privacy for the yacht. There are two mirrored VIP queen staterooms as well as two twin guest staterooms below deck, with crew quarters found just forward of the engine room. The main salon and formal dining room incorporate sections of floor-to-ceiling glass windows, a design feature that is carried into the Master stateroom as well and dramatically increases natural light in these areas. A 54 square meter multi-purpose area on the upper and sundecks, an aft deck
40 Luxe Et Al
salon/dining area with a fantastic “open view” and a raised pilothouse to provide further privacy for the owner and guests are amongst the impressive design features. In the FD85’s pilothouse, a large windshield also adds natural light and maximizes visibility; however Low-E glass is utilized to reduce the amount of heat entering the yacht and the windshield’s forward-angle design minimizes reflections on the navigational instruments. Horizon focused on both function and entertaining when designing the FD85’s outdoor spaces. An abundance of aft deck space incorporates built-in and loose seating as well as accessibility to the raised foredeck from the starboard side deck; the twin staircases from the aft deck to the flybridge provide a stylish design feature that is also practical. Crew quarters are reachable from a staircase on the port aft deck and from the swim platform. On the flybridge, the FD85 offers an outdoor helm, full bar, two adjacent L-shaped dinettes, space for sunbathing and a hot tub -- ideal for enjoying the outdoors; an interior helm is connected to the flybridge for easy transition between helms. The Horizon FD85 fast displacement motoryacht blends contemporary interior and exterior styling and functional design with flexible performance capabilities, ensuring this new yacht will successfully compete in today’s multi-faceted yacht market. Founded in 1987, Horizon Yachts is the fifth largest custom luxury yacht builder in the world as well as the number one builder in the Asia Pacific region. Over the last 28 years, Horizon has delivered over 750 luxury yachts, with more than 160 of these over 80 feet in length. Popular models ranging from 52 to 150 feet include motoryachts, superyachts, power catamarans, expedition yachts and sportfishes. The New Horizon FD85 is a real understatement motor yacht, built according the highest standards by the best craftsmen and using the finest materials available and will probably be the largest 85 footer on the market. Contemporary style lines, creative interior spaces, tremendous interior volume and flexible cruising speeds – these are the core features of the new Horizon FD85 fast displacement motoryacht. The FD85 is a truly advanced, mid-range motoryacht that incorporates cutting-edge design with functional living and entertaining spaces that are comparable to most 100+ yachts.

“ Attaining the greatest integration between the yacht and the surrounding environment ”
The WIDER 150 is unique in her ability to provide a number of luxury features only usually found on a larger vessel. She boasts three spacious decks for guests to enjoy. She has a 90-meter-squared beach club, a 7-meter swimming pool and a 32-foot tender, among other impressive amenities. The WIDER 150 is able to accommodate up to 11 guests. A 5-meter-squared master stateroom with a 4-meter-squared sea terrace is located on the main deck; four additional guest staterooms are located below deck and guest rooms have en-suite staterooms. As with Wider 42’ continuity between indoor and outdoor spaces was an issue of the utmost importance and the interior areas were managed more freely, focusing on attaining the greatest integration between the yacht and the surrounding environment, with a style that follows no fashion trend, characterised by clean lines and taut, smooth surfaces. The master suite, featuring large windows drawing in a huge amount of natural light, can be split into two separate areas by closing a sliding partition. Aft of the owner’s cabin a studio/lounge area benefits from a beautiful fold-down terrace overlooking the waves. All Wider projects feature a moment of design magic and on the 150 a section of foredeck raises up at the touch of a button to become a light yet robust roof protecting a properly equipped lounging area. The massive skylounge will be a favourite place for guests to enjoy. The interior is contemporary and luxurious. A balcony forward from the master stateroom is located on the main deck and sea-level balconies open around the swimming pool at the transom. Good spatial planning like this is a

feature on the Wider 150, from the open-plan saloon on the main deck to the saloon on the upper deck. The WIDER 150 has a state-of-the-art bridge with full ECDIS and a push-button system to provide wrap-around controls for the captain. She offers diesel-electric propulsion combined with Azimuthal pods; WIDER is the first yard to offer the benefits of a full diesel-electric system the in this size range. The WIDER 150 also has the ability to solely run on battery power for a full night or whilst utilizing the beach club, ensuring no noise, vibration smoke or smell. The key points to the project were a medium-sized dimension; contemporary yet timeless style; low consumption dieselelectric advanced propulsion coupled to Azipods; and a layout that breaks the rules for its unconventional use of spaces, namely the beach club area/tender garage, which was one of the ideas the project developed from. The aim was to build an efficient displacement yacht in all respects and the Wider 150, with a length of 46 metres, a beam of 8.53 and a maximum draught of less than two metres, while offering an array of amenities and large liveable spaces can also hug the coast and enter small harbours, marinas and bays. Since energy is carried by cable to the Azipods, there was no need for a large engine room amidships. On the Wider 150, by splitting the technical areas between the bow and stern, 25 per cent more space is left for the guest cabins and the yacht can host a [9.7 metre] tender in the stern garage. The generator room is at the bow and the battery packs are astern in two compartments on either side of the tender garage which, once the tender is out, becomes a swimming pool surrounded by a beach club which it is unique for its peculiar opening system, a side opening has been excluded as it would not have been as reliable as it is from the transom and this also achieves the idea of having a great saltwater swimming pool protected from any danger in the middle of the ocean. On each side, fold-down balconies connected to the stern platform double the available space at sea level. From the beginning, the project included a tender matching the yacht’s style and spirit. The Wider 32 superyacht tender was conceived as the Wider 150 took shape and it is as extraordinary as its mothership. Twin 260hp MerCruiser engines allow a top speed exceeding 37 knots, while the exterior styling by De Simoni leaves you in no doubt that this design has been produced to impress and perform. The use of aluminium helps to lower the vessel’s environmental footprint and it can be repeatedly recycled. It also provides greater freedom during construction as it increases the opportunity to customise and considerably shortens production times. Plans to build 50m superyacht Wider 165 were announced at Miami yacht show.

Embraer Executive Jets delivered 73 Phenom 300 in 2014, making it the most delivered business jet in the world, according to a report by the General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA). Deliveries of this aircraft reached a total of 60 in 2013, also the largest quantity for that year.
“ Since Phenom 300 is the category leader in performance and reliability, Embraer decided to honour this great aircraft with a hallmark design reflecting both automotive and aerospace racing heritage. ”
In just five years of operation, the Phenom 300 fleet has reached the 250 aircraft mark, having accrued a 57% market share in the light jet category. The aircraft is in operation in more than 20 countries and has accumulated close to 200,000 flight hours. It is one of the fastest light jets, having recently established a National Aeronautic Association (NAA) cross-country speed record in the United States, from Bellingham, Washington to Albany, New York. The Phenom 300 performs among the top light jets, with a high speed cruise of 453 knots and a six-occupant range of 1,971 nautical miles (3,650 km) with NBAA IFR reserves. This range allows nonstop flights from Miami to Telluride, or Los Angeles to Orlando. With the best climb and field performance in its class, the Phenom 300 costs less to operate and maintain than its peers. The aircraft is capable of flying at 45,000 feet (13,716 meters), powered by two Pratt & Whitney Canada PW535E engines with 3,200 pounds of thrust each. The Phenom 300 offers a spacious cabin, designed in partnership with BMW Designworks USA, and the largest baggage compartment in its category. The largest windows in the class deliver abundant natural lighting in the cabin as well as in the private lavatory in the back of the aircraft. The comfort of the seats, with recline and full movement capability, is enhanced by the best pressurization among light jets (6,600 ft. maximum cabin altitude). The Phenom 300 features distinct temperature zones for pilots

and passengers, a wardrobe and refreshment centre, voice and data communications options and an entertainment system. The pilot-friendly cockpit enables single-pilot operation and offers the advanced Prodigy Touch Flight Deck. The features it carries from a class above include single-point refuelling, externally serviced lavatory and an air stair. Since Phenom 300 is the category leader in performance and reliability, Embraer decided to honour this great aircraft with a hallmark design reflecting both automotive and aerospace racing heritage. Many of their customers are entrepreneurs who believe in a performance lifestyle and a “no excuse for failure” work ethic, reminiscent of the brave men and women who continue to push the boundaries in the air and on the ground for the sole purpose of a First Place finish. With interior design by Joshua Rea and exterior design by Joshua Rea and Rodrigo Castaman, the innovative features of this custom Phenom 300 include contrasting stitched seats and asymmetrically placed serial number on the left wing. The custom exterior paint and interior finishes celebrates aerospace and automotive racing heritage. The Phenom 300 is a very comfortable and sporty aircraft. Owners are often the pilots who feel the paint scheme is an extension of themselves and their passion for flight and speed. “We are very grateful for our customers’ preference for the Phenom 300, a truly revolutionary aircraft, designed with extensive customer input and feedback,” said Marco Túlio Pellegrini, President and CEO, Embraer Executive Jets. “This achievement further reaffirms our commitment to deliver the highest level of customer support and services.”

A Unique Airport Experience South African Airways VIA Business Class Lounge

South African Airways Passengers can now enjoy a stylish new domestic departures lounge, the VIA Lounge, at OR Tambo International Airport. Following months of extensive refurbishment, the new facility has been appropriately named VIA lounge, as the lounges are a transition point for travellers for their travel via the airport to the destination of their choice. The idea was that every new SAA VIA lounge would offer a uniquely different experience, drawing on the culture and cuisine of that particular region. The new lounge experience at OR Tambo affords travellers the opportunity to relax, unwind, work or even socialise in a stylish and comfortable environment that incorporates classic contemporary lines that drew on African earthy tones to compliment the SAA identity. This inviting lounge also makes use of design textures that delivered a premium quality experience and a welcoming space that was both a home away from home and an exclusive club.
“ The lounge will offer a fantastic pre-departure experience displayed through warm hospitality that has become synonymous with the SAA brand ”
Instead of a formal reception, the public space and the reception area are integrated to form an approachable ‘meet and greet’ helpdesk. This transitional space reflects the start of the journey and SAA’s strategy in its service orientated approach whereby a visitor is guided towards the Platinum or Premium lounge. The interior environment was designed to create an open plan space that not only connected the traveller intuitively to the vast airport apron with interleading areas and large window panels, but also allowed them to be immersed in their own world of privacy with alcove highback pods, multiple plug points backed up with up-to-date world class technology. With the focus being on the traveller being away from home, personal comfort zones, and a variety of seating arrangements for different personality types were introduced. From comfortable single seater chairs and ottomans to siesta chairs, stone walls, wood finishes, different weaves, textures and the genuine leather touches gave the space an impression of a truly international African feel. VIA Lounge features ample and comfortable seating areas, fresh cuisine options, a rotating art gallery showcasing South African artists, a Junior Pilots children’s area, runway views and high-speed internet. Soft leather bench seating with wooden mobile coffee/

laptop tables enables travellers to quickly keep in touch with the world with their technology of choice, watching the world go by on the latest state-of-the-art LED TV or simply enjoy a quiet magazine read. In high contrast to the finishes in the lounge, the food and beverage area was designed with a Deli experience in mind, offering quality, local and International cuisine. This area had to cater for high volumes of people so Thai food counters and Islands were set against Moroccan inspired mosaic tiled floor displaying fresh and well presented food and the combination of African Objet D’ Art on the shelves against clean white metro tiles creates and truly international feel. The flow from the deli area was picked up in the dining area adjacent to the deli. Attention to details was captured in bespoke hand crafted marble tables with hand turned, lathed wooden legs. “The Lounge will offer a fantastic predeparture experience displayed through warm hospitality that has become synonymous with the SAA brand” said Kim Thipe, SAA Head of Marketing. “Whether they want to relax or work before a flight, the lounge is a perfect place to do this”, Thipe said. The Lounge Design was completed by Gaby De Abreu and Larry Shiller of SWITCH, an award winning Johannesburg based agency. The new domestic lounge is the perfect addition to SAA’s unique international arrivals lounge, ideal for passengers arriving from the UK who are connecting to a domestic flight. The international arrivals lounge offers customers the opportunity to freshen up and take a shower before making the short walk to the domestic terminal where, after clearing security, passengers can relax or catch up on work prior to their domestic connection. As the traveller sits comfortably in a grand repo chair, feet on the footstool, looking out onto the concourse, sipping a cappuccino, with their wi-fi enabled ipod, surrounded by local artwork hanging from the walls and taking a note of details such as the cityscape of Johannesburg cut out of metal tables, the wood engraving on Zulu mama chairs and the studs in the soft luxurious classic leather upholstered bar stools, they can appreciate that this truly wonderful eclectic mix of African, contemporary and classic styles overlaid with superior service personifies the brand of a truly World Class lounge.

Lelievre With a chic contemporary spirit the Twentieth Contract collection offers a range of materials and textures relevant to the hotel and traditional market. Developed in flame retardant Trevira CS polyester fibres, these fabrics reflect nature, the play of light on surface textures and a harmony of elegant motifs. Inspiration for this collection comes from handcrafts and a certain ‘savoir faire’. In imitation of natural fibres, raffia, subtly woven horsehair, light embroidery, polished stone and wool blends the collection is attractive and so easy to use so it’s all ready to go. Carriere, like a slice of veined marble polished by craftsmen, the subtle wave design of it is woven in rich heavy satin. Although using modern technical processes, the weave and shaded colour variations mimic the warp yarns in traditional hand weaving techniques. These effects can also vary from one production to another. This fabric gives the optical effect of marble or stone, with the fluidity of the curtain creating curving columns. The repeat does not need to be aligned as each panel has an individual cut marble appearance. www.lelievre.eu

“ I design from an artist’s point of view and my work is never generic nor repetitive. Good design must be original, stand the test of time and shy away from trend. Above all, the completed project must reflect the lifestyle, status and taste of my client. I like to think of myself as an actor interpreting many different roles, giving my best interpretation by creating a work of art that is unique, personal and one-of-a-kind. ” - Stef Albert
New York based design company, Stef Albert, have been shortlisted for a Concept over 40m Award in The International Yacht and Aviation Awards 2016 for their superyacht, Iwana. The unique and one-of-a-kind interiors of Iwana derived their inspiration from the slick and timeless design of the exterior. As a vessel beyond contemporary standards, it carries an impressive art collection and custom furnishings of the highest quality. Every detail designed and manufactured by Stef-Albert Studios, it meets the impeccable standards of the discerning owner. With ground-breaking surface materials and finishes, luxury and beauty is all the eye meets from top to bottom. Iwana has an overall length of 87m / 288ft and a 15m / 49ft beam. She has a berth capacity for 16 guests in 8 cabins and crew of more than 20. Stef Albert designs interiors and buildings that represent the lifestyles and standards of his roster of international clientèle. His work creates arenas reflective of success, power, wealth and passion for quality and beauty. Approaching design from an artist’s angle, his interiors are not merely functional, but unique works of art. In the case of Iwana, the 87m Superyacht with exterior design by Alexander McDiarmid Design he transforms spaces to house an impressive art collection to balance artfully created fittings, surfaces and custom murano glass work. The project is a showcase of the ultimate artistic luxury on the open seas “I wanted to create the ambience of an exclusive nightclub whilst simultaneously merging the expansive exterior waters and skies.” Whether the owner entertains lavishly or prefers the privacy of the breath-taking master suite, the Iwana raises the bar as a one-of-a-kind design. From the moment guests’ step on-board, sophistication and elegance rule. Walk down the elegant, DNA Helix inspired master staircase or by the simple yet sophisticated and elegant elevator design, guests are immediately transported into a comfortable yet perfectly composed and chic interior space. Discrete crew access, prep and storage areas and dumb waiter are located either side of the elevator. In the dining room you immediately see how the dinner table conversation might unfurl: the full height, floor to ceiling, uninterrupted sea view through the expansive glass window
84 Luxe Et Al
offers a view unlike no other. Glazing is from GL Yachtverglasung, Germany and is Lloyds type-approved marine glass that can replace steel.
“Inspired by the beautiful curves and lines of Iwana’s exterior, it was important to me to balance form and function and create a coherent flow from the outside in”
With ample natural light, the expansive dining room has two main focal points: the monolithic wall adorned in a customized light-weight faux marble with gold inlay, and the incomparable beauty of Mother Nature’s enchanting horizon views. Overhead dining table lighting incorporates individual hand blown Dale Chihuly glass pieces lighting the Stef-Albert designed dining furniture collection.
The Owner’s Private Deck - imagine going to sleep under the stars….A haven of calm and tranquillity. A place to truly get away from it all and one reason for owning a superyacht in the first place. As the top and upper most private deck of Iwana, the Owner’s Deck offers complete privacy and intimacy from the rest of the yacht. With the option of private or selected guest dining, it is where the owner escapes to reflect, discuss business or entertain in private. Closest to the open skies, it sports beautiful shades of blue in ranges of indigo (reflecting night skies and the deep ocean) through sky and powder blue combined with white and gold as references to the clouds and sun. With unique finishes, leathers, fabrics and hand blown Venetian glass light fixtures, it forms the perfect backdrop for the multi-million dollar art collection. Whether the owner chooses to live and entertain casually or formally, the spaces are timeless and original. With its heavenly bedroom and its vast glass ceiling, the suite offers complete escape into bliss and privilege.
The black marble décor and interior design theme continues through and into the piano bar and lounge area. Here is found the incredible built in fish tank, piano, games table or a space to relax and enjoy the lounge areas. In search of unique flooring and surface materials with the aesthetic of rare stone and marble but without the weight, Stef-Albert developed a product suitable for opulent interiors. As non-skid flooring and close to real variants of marble and exotic surfaces for walls and ceilings, Stef -Albert expresses beauty and luxury beyond the generic. Created and developed by Stef Albert, these are produced through a modern version of a 17th-century technique, “Scagliola,” which combines seline, glue, synthetics and natural pigments to imitate marble and other hard stones without excessive weight. The collaboration of Alexander McDiarmid Design and Stef Albert comes from a shared love for design along with their mutual admiration of opposite yet very complimentary skills and the coming together of these two passionate designers created this magnificent masterpiece. “Alex’s designs and concepts are slick, progressive but never experimental nor contrived. To me balance and proportion are key elements in design that are often overlooked for the sake of size and flash. Like elegant sports cars, his vessels are eye catching, new, artistic and original. These vessels will stand the test of time as artistic creations of unique individual character and form.” - Stef-Albert, Interior Designer. “A privilege to work with such a talented, unique and creative mind. A designer who truly understands the principal of ‘less is more’ and who’s sought after style translates as second to none when nothing less than the magic of individuality will do”
Similar to panoramic roof windows on modern cars, the super glass structure integrates a full length, panoramic roof window running over the yacht. This incorporates a solar panel system in the ‘Magic Smart Glass’. All glass on the yacht is electronically and colour switchable changing instantly for privacy, sun/glare protection and visual entertainment. There appears to be huge expanses of glass used in the yacht. Obviously due to current manufacturing capabilities, a one piece large glazing structure cannot be viably produced. Therefore an automotive glazing and bodywork technique is applied in ‘colourway break’. This in essence disguises the supporting structures behind the glass giving a visual impression of one continuous piece of material. The amount of natural daylight that enters the yacht is on another scale altogether. Stepping aboard Iwana guarantees the ultimate experience of modern yet timeless sophistication of balance, beauty and rhythm. As designer of luxurious homes to the rich of the rich, Stef-Albert brings the very same qualities of top-drawer design and luxury to the wide seas of seven-star living.
