Esenyacht Shortlisted for the Sailing Yacht over 30 metres Award in the IY&A Awards 2015 Esenyacht have been successfully shortlisted for the International Yacht & Aviation Awards 2015. GLORIOUS will compete for the Sailing Yacht over 30 metres Award. GLORIOUS is a magnificent cruising ketch for 8 guests boasting sumptuous interiors characterised by exquisite workmanship in

wood and marble. The design brief was to create a comfortable warm water cruiser that combines a modern exterior with a warm, hospitable interior. She also needed to be easy to manage with a versatile sail plan that could be managed by a small crew. The owner wanted a more traditional interior than the exterior might suggest, with soft wood tones offset by pale fabrics to create interiors that would be cool and bright by day, and warm and welcoming after dark. Subtle lighting and high-gloss woodwork were also to be used to create a feeling of sensual luxury. The owner also wanted

to make the most of the craftsmanship available at Esenyacht across the full range of natural materials and specified the use of high-quality detailing to enhance the classical ambiance down below. As a sailing yacht the external areas were particularly important. Here the owner sought a number of areas suited for different needs, ranging from a protected space at the main deck level to a spacious area uncluttered by sail controls where he and his guests could relax when both at sea and in harbour. www.esenyacht.com

Acumen Design Associates Shortlisted for the Concept Cabin Award with Viva – a new business class seating concept Acumen Design Associates has achieved further shortlist success once again in the International Yacht & Aviation Awards 2015. The new business class seating concept, Viva will compete in the Concept Cabin category. Viva is a patented, high-density, lay-flat, all-aisle-access business class seat-layout designed exclusively by Acumen. The design combines in-line and angled seats to give an unrivalled density and passenger offer. As a prominent consultancy in the premium aircraft interiors industry, Acumen have designed many cabin interior products for airlines and manufacturers alike. With a thorough knowledge of the opportunities for innovation within the existing marketplace, “Viva” was designed in-house as a speculative project to the following brief: to create the most space-efficient lay-flat business class cabin with individual aisle access for every passenger, whilst maintaining a truly premium seat offer. A high density product means more passengers, so the design had to be lightweight in order to counter the increased weight. From a passenger standpoint, it was important to deliver class-leading space, with the high-end, yet simple and intuitive amenities. Lastly, in order to be commercially flexible, the underlying layout and structure needed to be adaptable enough to cater for every wide body air-frame type, and be easily customisable for the airline. acumen-da.com

SR Technics Shortlisted in the Private Jet Concept Design Award design et al are delighted to announce SR Technics as a shortlisted company in the International Yacht & Aviation Awards 2015. Created by Eric JAN, Head of Interior Design at SR Technics, ‘Innovative Cabin Solution’ will compete for the Private Jet Concept Design Award. The aviation industry has been conservative in the modernisation of private aircraft design. From the organisation of space through to the construction of the interior, VIP aircraft have traditionally been set up in

a standard layout. SR Technics have created a layout and concept that enables owners to make 100 per cent use of the usable space, 100 per cent of the time. This product brings together advanced smart solutions that reconsider traditional layouts to enable optimisation and flexibility of space; turning the ordinary into extraordinary. SR Technics’ highly competitive pricing and significant reduction in the green completion time, by up to a third compared to the industry norm, the new cabin solution offers value that has not been seen in the industry to date. It is time to rethink narrow- body interiors as they are not suited to today’s needs. www.srtechnics.com

Shortlisted: Peugeot Design Lab to Compete for the Private Jet Concept Design Award in the IY&A Awards 2015 design et al are delighted to announce shortlist success for Peugeot Design Lab in the International Yacht & Aviation Awards 2015. The innovative design is highlighted by a strong and distinctive visual identity. The HX1 jet concept is notable for its sleek body profile, terminating in the jet fighter inspired integration of the turbines. Continuing the theme, the tail plane is divided into V-tail stabilisers, mounted at 45°, which creates a unique signature in this segment of the jet. Integrated into the leading edges of the wings are powerful, state of the art LED lighting systems. The lightweight interior was created with luxury and optimised ergonomics in mind. With a modular design and intelligent seating system, it is possible to adapt the interior to comfortably accommodate 14 business class passengers or create an 8 seat VIP lounge. www.peugeotdesignlab.com

Shortlisted Announcement: Ricky Liu & Associates Shortlisted for the First Class Lounge Award design et al are delighted to announce shortlist success for Ricky Liu & Associates, Architects + Planners in the Fifth Annual International Yacht & Aviation Awards 2015. The China Airlines V3 VIP Lounge will compete for the First Class Lounge Award. Conceptualised as a pleasant retreat in Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport Terminal 2, “Plum Garden” is a leisure space where passengers can engage in Taiwanese culture and endure a luxury stay before their next journey. The lounge is designed by the

Terminal 2, with a total area of 22,000 square feet. The design project for the United Club and United Global First Lounge at Heathrow Airport’s new Terminal 2 began with a clear focus: to creatively and responsibly deliver distinctive, stylish and state-of-the-art airport lounges”. The architect approached the project as a hospitality assignment, designing a series of spaces that offer customers many opportunities to feel at home while travelling by creating distinct and comfortable spaces. Using timepieces throughout to represent detail and precision, the lounges are shaped into three zones; the United Club, which includes signature furniture pieces, vintage aviation artwork and sculpted organic

installations and private phone booths; Shower Suites, featuring high-end spaquality shower and restroom facilities; and the Global First Lounge. The Global First Lounge establishes a new standard for international lounge design by elevating the concept of traveller luxury. The lounge offers private phone booths and a chef-prepared a-la-carte menu, while bronze, stone and eucalyptus wood details are featured throughout. With unobstructed views of the tarmac, the lounge culminates in a modern English Tea Lounge with a replica Big Ben-style clock and a wine room.

renowned architect, Ricky Liu, and represents a nation with exquisitely fine culture. The façade of ‘Plum Garden’ has a “Moon Gate”, transformed from traditional circular shape into an oblong gate that looks like a peach (Tao) pronounced homophonically as ‘Taoyuan’ where the Lounge is located. The massive painting “Jade Mountain in a Sea of Clouds” of Master Junbi HUANG as well as the caisson ceiling elevate the exuberance and importance of the reception lobby. Ricky Liu outlines six main themes that illustrates the main conceptualisation of the design and the goal of the implementation:

Taiwanese foods, specialties, and local arts to the travelers.

1. Boundless Presentation – Promoting Chinese Heritage with an accent of Taiwanese culture to the world. 2. Heart-warming Hospitality – Marketing

Located at Amsterdam’s aviation hub Schiphol, SUMMUM The Private Jet Lounge will compete for the First Class Lounge Award. ‘Summum’ – the Dutch word for “summit” is the perfect name for The Netherlands’ most exclusive private jet lounge. Amsterdam-based FG stijl spent six months crafting an interior to reflect

the lifestyles of those who use it: combining style and practical functionality at the highest level of luxury. Situated on the 4th floor of Schipol’s new private jet terminal, the lounge spans 500 square metres. This location offers an expansive vista through wide, landscape-shaped windows across the private jet runways, disembarkation area and helipads. The entrance corridor is dominated by a backlit honey-coloured onyx wall which is reflected by 6.5 metre mirrors on the opposite wall and offset by black carpet and ceiling. The Concourse A First and Business Class Lounges brief was to incorporate the key branding elements that describe Emirates: elegance / timelessness / warmth / hospitality / comfort / hospitality / neutral tones

Darley Interior Architectural Design (DIAD) have been successfully shortlisted in the International Yacht & Aviation Awards 2015. The Emirates First & Business Class Lounges based at Dubai International Airport will compete in the First Class Lounge category.

The lounges feature an excellent range of facilities – comfortable and welcoming as well as logical in their flow, incorporating privacy, comfort and technological convenience as top priorities. Sophisticated finishes and fabrics are practical and easy to maintain, which endure the traffic circulated through the lounges. A differentiation between First and Business Class such that First Class allowed more spacious seating arrangements with the feeling of arriving at a top-end hotel by including aspects such as focal tables, fresh flowers, use of Emirates signature burl veneer and custom-designed fabric and genuine leather enhancing the Emirates brand.

Emirates Airline, world-renowned for its high standards in service excellence, believes in extending the same level of service in their Lounges. These Lounges, aimed at the Business and First Class traveller, were to be an extension of existing Emirates Lounges around the world, incorporating the Emirates brand but a first ever for Emirates in terms of their scale.

Launched by the Italian ship builder Admiral Tecnomar – The Italian Sea Group, Zahraa is a sleek 30-metre superyacht from the Tecnomar Nadara range. She is designed exclusively by Tecnomar Centro Stile and features highly personalised specifications from top to bottom. On the 9th May 2014 at London’s prestigious Hurlingham Club, Tecnomar’s Nadara 30 Zahraa was an excellent competitor in the Power Yacht over 30m Award at the International Yacht & Aviation Awards 2014. Admiral Tecnomar’s other outstanding yacht, Cacos V was the winner of this category.

“ Zahraa has a muscular exterior, with classic and captivating external lines – in line with the values of Admiral Tecnomar. She also features unique space optimisation for a 30-metre yacht, charming lines, sophisticated interiors and stunning lighting system. ”

With a unique ambience, Zahraa is a standout yacht in her class. The new luscious bronze hull provides a sportive look, but still retains luxury like no other. She features lowered bulwarks and the extra-large windows, which allows maximum natural light in the main deck and all Guests’ cabins. Zahraa has a muscular exterior, with classic and captivating external lines – in line with the values of Admiral Tecnomar. She also features unique space optimisation for a 30metre yacht, charming lines, sophisticated interiors and stunning lighting system. The main aft deck features an al fresco dining area, which is conveniently designed close to the large aft swimming platform. The fore deck is the perfect sunbathing area where guests can relax on large sun pads around a luxurious Jacuzzi. The impressive exterior deck space allows guests enjoy the sea breeze air in pure relaxation, without compromising inter space. With two double guest cabins, one VIP and the Owner’s suite aft on the lower deck, Zahraa can accommodate up to 8 guests. The sleeping quarters boast immense quality – all of the guest suites have modern and warm design schemes, which compliment Zahraa’s bold personality. The Owner’s wishes were straightforward and meticulous. He desired an elegant yacht that was contemporary, but not too modern, as he expressed a particular desire for classic elements. The interior features a warm and welcoming design scheme with large open spaces – an area where Admiral Tecnomar have triumphed. The Owner asked for ultimate comfort especially in the saloon, where large bespoke sofas are set on either side - an area the Owner uses frequently for

business. In the saloon, there is also a bar in backlit onyx, a huge seating area and, perhaps crucially and somewhat remarkably, noise is non-existent. Federica Lo Franco of Admiral Tecnomar, added: “The brief for comfort took precedence for the client over any other need.” Zahraa has a wealth of standout features, however when asked of her favourite aspect, it seemed clear Federica believes it is her overall versatility. “The surprisingly spacious outdoor areas for relaxing and conviviality; the cozy and comfortable main saloon featuring a glamorous bar corner in backlighted onyx, the two modern design leather sofas and the full beam Owner’s cabin. Although the Nadara 30 Zahraa was not the eventual winner of the Power Yacht over 30m Award at the International Yacht & Aviation Awards 2014, she was an excellent project along with the winner of the Award, Cacos V – the other outstanding superyacht from Admiral Tecnomar – The Italian Sea Group. Speaking to design et al at the Awards Ceremony on the 9th May, Federica Lo Franco added that the IY&A Awards recognise excellent achievement in the design industry: “We strongly believe and invest in design. Our shipyard has an in-house Centro Stile with more of 10 designers at an Owner’s disposal - the International Yacht & Aviation Awards represent an important achievement for designers. We hope to have a new 145m project listed here next year!” Zahraa is a beautiful example of a yacht with traditional and classical features. Her interior has a contemporary ambiance, which provides an insight into the potential future design of superyachts. Lead by Giovanni Costantino, Admiral Tecnomar – The Italian Sea Group is an internationally renowned shipyard, which invests heavily in design, technology, research and development. The Group represents two fleets: the Tecnomar fleet and the Admiral fleet. Both have different values that add a new dimension to the Admiral Tecnomar – The Italian Sea Group. The Admiral fleet has an elegant and prestigious tradition, whereby the Tecnomar Fleet brings a sportive performance and technology with no compromise.

The first Oyster 125 Flybridge, Twilight is a powerful performance cruising yacht with a stunning open plan, split level living area. The upper saloon offers an uninterrupted panoramic view. The yacht was commissioned to represent the very latest in global performance cruising. Capable of ocean passages with good performance, but nevertheless having large volume, this yacht is a very good cruising boat.

“ Twilight is a powerful performance cruising yacht with a stunning open plan, split level living area. The upper saloon offers an uninterrupted panoramic view.. ”

At the International Yacht & Aviation Awards 2014, Oyster Yachts was successfully shortlisted with Twilight for the Sailing Yacht Award. With a view to series production, Oyster Yachts brought together one of the best teams of internationally recognised designers, engineers and consultants to research every aspect of the overall design concept, structural specification, engineering and interior design. For over two years this team, including Dubois Naval Architects and RMK Marine, optimised the Oyster 125. This huge input of expertise, goes way beyond that invested by any individual purchaser due to both time and cost. This significant investment has created a truly class leading superyacht. RMK Marine delivered the OYSTER 125 Flybridge version to the Client of Oyster Marine in the beginning of May 2013. The yacht is packed with domestic systems and carries a full range of hotel equipment contained in the engine room. Superyacht quality suppliers were used in the build of this yacht, such as the air conditioning plant supplied by Dometic, Galley equipment by Miele, Sewage treatment plant by Ecomar, and marine fridges by Penquin. In comparison with other typical Dubois designed sailing super yachts, all domestic related equipment, with the exception of the galley fridge compressors and the boilers is located in the engine room in addition to the normal ship systems, such as the fire and bilge, fuel systems, etc. To fit all this equipment into the engine room has been a challenge and this could only be achieved by full 3D modelling of all equipment and pipelines. The drive system of the Oyster 125 is common to similar systems found on other Super yachts and is provided by a Caterpillar C18 engine and a Hundestedt four bladed propeller system. “A flybridge yacht at 125 feet (38m) is new to the design world”, comments Ed Dubois,

Founder of Dubois Naval Architects. “The flybridge offers excellent visibility when sailing the yacht and a private area when not sailing, i.e. when at anchor. The saloon area is very large and one could be forgiven for thinking one was stepping on board a much larger yacht. The composite construction has been very well executed and all in all we are delighted with the result.” This exceptional Oyster superyacht offers accommodation usually associated with 50 metre plus designs. Ed continues: “Our office has now designed many yachts of this size and it is from this base that Oyster approached us for the design of the Oyster 125. The challenge was to allow the flybridge to offer both the benefits but not detract from the overall appearance of the yacht. We hope we have achieved this.” From the outset the Oyster Marine Interior Design Team’s aim was to style a classic teak interior, which would be comfortable and easy to live with for long distance cruising or simply partying at the dock, and which would reflect the owners long standing history with Oyster as its founder and his early preferences with a whole range of classic smaller Oyster yachts owned by him during the last 20 years. Given the history of the Owner with Oyster, a focus on practicality and seamanship and a ‘yacht designed by sailors for sailors’ was essential. Joinery detailing had to include practical handholds and soft radiused corners, function as always would be paramount as it is on all Oyster yachts. It was a pleasure for the team to work with Dick Young, employed by the Owner to complement the Oyster team’s work, and who added contrasting oak, soft fabric panels and enhancements to the interior layout. Crew accommodation would follow the general colour theme of the guest areas, however floor and worktop colour and material choices would be lead by the need for ease of maintenance and practicality. The interior design process ran concurrently with the structural and engineering aspects of the design, at all times the need for ease of access to all systems throughout the yacht was paramount. This mixture of engineering effort by RMK Marine and Oyster together with Naval Architecture by Dubois culminated in a performance Super Yacht – The Oyster 125 Flybridge.
