YACHT & AVIATION AWARDS 2015 This year, The International Yacht & Aviation Awards celebrate their fifth anniversary and what a year it has been; short-listed projects have increased by seventy per cent on last year, Luxe et al - the host magazine - has grown to become a monthly stand-alone title and at the time of going to print the yacht and aviation industry are voting in their thousands for this year's short-listed projects. We expect voting numbers will exceed last year's final figures, early indications at this stage seem to indicate growth here too. This is really encouraging for us all, allowing industry professionals to vote on a global level ensures objectivity and fairness, unites industries and, more than that, it allows maximum exposure for all competing projects. It is an exciting time for growth and development in the industry as a whole which is reflected well in the awards as you will see. Over the coming twelve months you will have a chance to take a closer look at many of the short-listed projects as we shall feature them in greater detail over future issues. For now this is a broad look at the categories and the competition.

She features exterior design from Luca Dini and a timeless interior from the Toronto-based Dragana Maznic in collaboration with Centro Stile. With a traditional white colour enriched by matt black areas in correspondence with side windows, she features full-height panoramic windows which flood the yacht interior with natural light and offer unparalleled views.The master suite features private gym and sauna, huge master bathroom and of course office corner and walking wardrobe. As requested by the owners, the king size bed is placed in the middle of the suite. On the lower deck four large guest cabins find place, two VIPs and two doubles which may become two twin or even triple bed when required; all of those cabins feature a private ensuite bathroom, enriched with precious materials. On the upper deck, a spectacular skylounge salon finds its perfect location, taking the whole beam of the yacht, featuring full headroom side windows and even an opening balcony on the starboard side, which creates a further terrace to enjoy the nights at anchor. 14

With a strong and muscular exterior, ‘Why Worry’ is a 43-metre superyacht with a lushious and contemporary interior with extreme attention to details in a stainless steel, white, black and red combination. Based in a very contemporary interior architecture in which the protagonists are the high gloss ebony wood and the off white leather, extraordinary red and white coral pieces. These colours are a running theme throughout ‘Why Worry,’ which are replicated over the various living spaces. The chosen contemporary art is all in black and white to keep a chic and sophisticated atmosphere. In the saloon, SA&V placed mirrors in the ceilings to provide a sense of enhancement to the room size. Sophisticated touches were applied with the use of stainless steel, white, black and red details. Throughout ‘Why Worry’ the environments were created by taking into account the comfort, usable space, the typical dynamics of a ship and the experience that people have in each room.

Naval Architect: Admiral – The Italian Sea Group M/Y Flying Dragon is a planing aluminium 45meter superyacht. The Owner’s brief was to create a fast modern yacht for world cruising. A big saloon on the main deck, a huge sundeck and a balcony in the Owner’s stateroom were among the mandatory requests. The Owner’s cabin also features 3 walk-in wardrobes, Technogym in-wall equipment and a gorgeous steam room with aroma and light therapy, ﬁnished in precious onyxes. All four guest cabins are incredibly big for this size with bathrooms ﬁnished in Carrara marbles. There are mirror TVs and a modern entertainment system with iPad and iPhone control throughout the yacht. The sundeck features a teak ceiling with yin yang logo including a very special light design with disco lights and a DJ booth. A key aspect of the project is its big interior volumes, modern Asian-style design and interesting exterior colour scheme complete with a dragon. This yacht is a great mixture of Italian & Asian style with modern technologies.

LOGICA YACHTS imagined a navetta-style vessel that was comfortable, quiet and light-filled with a rational distribution of available space — a boat designed to make the most of everything the Med has to offer. Logica had to be as beautiful as a sailboat of equivalent length, but as roomy and comfortable as three of them. Derived from Brenta Yacht Design studio’s renowned work in sailboat design, the idea behind the yacht’s elegant exterior styling was to import the culture and values of Mediterranean sailing into the world of displacement cruising. She appeals to owners who are genuinely passionate about yachting and the sea. The design brief for MY LOGICA (Logica 147) called for a different set of criteria: comfort rather than top-speed performance and the romance of classic design combined with contemporary appeal. At the same time, the exterior form had to be as much an expression of its function as it would for a sailing yacht. If you start from the bow and work your way backward, the design has a coherence and fluidity with no surprises or jarring elements.” The key to producing a timeless design is taking something from the past and adding something from the future, which is more difficult than it sounds. Nassima is a 49m, twin prop, semi displacement, aluminium, long range motor yacht for luxury cruising and expeditions. This aluminium three decked motor yacht has a top speed of 18 knots and an economic cruising speed of 14 knots. At a speed of 10 knots she reaches a stunning range and makes her a true ocean voyage yacht. Her classic timeless design by Olivier van Meer features a stern garage for a car as well as two motor cycles, a spacious sundeck and a large sea aquarium on the main deck. The interior is coherent through the three decks and matches the outside style of the yacht. By having the huge sea aquarium as a division between the saloon and aft deck, the surrounding environment of the sea is brought on deck. The lower deck features a spacious, full beam VIP cabin as well as four twin guest cabins. Adjacent to the wheelhouse there is the captain’s cabin, her crew of 7 are enjoying modern designed cabins and crew mess with a fully independent Galley.

POWER YACHT OVER 40M

The project of this spectacular 72 metre by VSY – entrusted to the expertise of the architect Espen Øino in cooperation with Laurent Giles Naval Architects – is blending traditional elements of design and layout with new variations on a theme – such as the staggered internal decks, the heights of the saloons and the innovative form of the bow. The resulting layout ensures a volume, more usually seen in yachts of greater dimensions, of 2,114 GRT. The yacht is equipped with a certiﬁed helideck, a deck for the exclusive use of guests, a separate Owner’s deck, saloons with a ﬁnished height of 270 cm and the pleasure - which must surely be an exclusive novelty - of enjoying green landscapes at sea with real house-plants crossing the decks. Concepts of the internal and external spaces are interpreted in a very unconventional way. For example, in the two main saloons and the Owner’s cabin, there are spectacular walls entirely of glass, thus allowing the eye to see and enjoy beyond what would normally be a rigid barrier.

She is a tri-deck yacht with modern and captivating lines. The dark grey color of the hull creates an elegant contrast with the soft grey of the superstructure, lowering the all profile of the yacht and delivering a more sporty and sleek design. The main deck features a spacious main saloon enriched with top quality furniture and upholstery which include precious fabrics, a bar with a marble top, a large handmade table for up to 10 people with a glass backlit panel set in the center, mirrored ceilings with brass inserts and crystal lamps. Forward on the main deck the owner cabin finds place, taking the full beam of the yacht and featuring large side windows which give natural light to the whole environment. On the floor the precious ivory and blue carpet acts as a “tray” to the four-poster bed with tufted headboard. The Owner bathroom has glass washbasins, marble floor with inserts in steel and diamond design and chromo therapy shower and bathtub. The upper saloon covers the entire beam of the deck and it’s lightened by windows that span the entire length of the deck, delivering a sportier profile to the yacht.

With a traditional and modern design, she features a raised pilot house – truly a much modern concept of the more traditional “navetta”. The grey hull creates an elegant contrast with the white superstructure, which together with the wide windows on the main deck, deliver a sleek design to the external proﬁle. The interior is a collaboration between Arch. Gian Marco Campanino Admiral’s Centro Stile. At mid ship, where the main saloon ﬁnds place, the structural bulwark gets lower to deck level to leave space to a panoramic balcony which is obtained within the side passages. This area also features full headroom windows which give natural light to the interiors.

The Next Episode is a contemporary and spacious yacht. Her main deck features an al fresco dining area next to the main salon. She also has a professional galley which can be opened up or closed off from view depending on the social setting. For this project the client desired a contemporary styled yacht with a raised pilothouse and main-deck owner’s cabin. The interior design was sought to be clear, modern and fresh, and boast a generous main salon that could directly access an adjacent alfresco dining area. The use of white-washed oak, high-gloss lacquered Wengé, and white lacquered surfaces was chosen to balance with a mix of leathers and fabrics for wall coverings and other furnishings.

The Darwin Class 96 is the evolution of the steel aluminium “Pocket Explorer”. She shows off a conﬁdent, bold, and elegant exterior look, with blue hull, white superstructure and a silhouette that perfectly reﬂects her need for adventurous travels.

The Architecture and Design project of M/Y Yolo has been focused since the ﬁrst step on great attention to every single area of the yacht, trying to create a different style and a custom layout from the standard version with the aft salon and forward dining/galley & four cabins.

One of the primary requirements for Stella di Mare was to have her be able to visit the most secluded and least frequented spots imaginable. This would not just include the Mediterranean but also extend towards the east coast of the United States and the Caribbean region. Stella di Mare is a unique vessel offering her guests a great collection of exterior areas to enjoy. From the big main deck and swimming platform aft, to the big upper aft deck al fresco panoramic dining area. Fore, a private cockpit is combined with a set of big sun pads, while upstairs a great sun deck offers guests an area for entertaining and relaxing. Sun pads, lounge areas and dramatic vista views are key ingredients for this deck. Stella Di Mare has proven to be perfectly designed for traditional cruising as well as adventurous travels, with her airy design, light ambiance and pleasant amenities. She wins over all that visit her.

The Luxury Projects team almost “re-invented” the existing furniture functions and spaces from the original standard layout as in the introduction of the SPA and the VIP forward cabin. The independent Owner Area, full beam, rich of natural light both sides, shows her incredible spaces dimensions thanks to the glass doors dividing the cabin from the wide shower in travertino customdesigned tiles. The amazing GYM-SPA area, where the wide and equipped gym is connected, with a proper wellness path, to the emotional shower and the hamman, is still enviable even in yachts of bigger dimensions.

The first Hybrid boat of her kind this all-aluminium yacht combines new lines and high technology whilst respecting the environment. The aim of the 40m sport hybrid yacht is to provide owners with a fast and sporty yacht without renouncing the comfort, elegance and style of a mega yacht. The sleek aggressive lines are designed to merge seamlessly with the environment and work harmoniously with the interior. Sport indicates the high performance of the vessel, being equipped with two MTU engines and incredibly efficient hull lines she reaches 23 knots and easily cruises at 18-20 knots. The revolutionary hybrid propulsion system offers a new quiet and efficient way of yachting. With this green approach the owner can cruise slowly with the main engines switched off, transforming this high performance yacht into an incredibly quiet, fuel efficient and graceful superyacht. The addition of the folding balconies and beach club offers owners direct contact with the surrounding environment.

Design a production yacht that could be customized for different markets around the world. For the prototype, China was the market chosen for the interior layout for this vessel. Chinese clients use their yacht as day boats and entertain large group of friends. So from the very beginning, large open lounging spaces were provided in all the different decks of this yacht, both; inside and out, such as the Aft Deck and Open Flybridge (on the open version). A large Salon which ﬂows into the Dining room was provided. There is room for 10-12 people who can use the state of the art entertainment system. An Atrium space was designed to enhance the openness of the Main deck forward where the Helm resides. This Atrium space open into a Bar and Game salon below, which in turns opens into a multipurpose room that converts into a Owner’s Stateroom at the push of a button.

This yacht demonstrates the purest Sanlorenzo style, enhanced and strengthened with cutting edge features and designed according to her owner’s requests and needs. In the outlook of an extended renovation of the planing hull range, Sanlorenzo found it necessary, also for customer demand, to create a new and larger ﬂagship, with more spaces and more advanced solutions. The yacht is a semi-wide body in the front part, but with the volumes exceptionally well integrated in the proﬁle of the boat. Sanlorenzo adopted many sophisticated technical innovations, such as the lifting salon windows – an exclusively automotive concept so far – that allow a natural interior/exterior relation to better enjoy the seascape from a salon that becomes a terrace. The helm station on the half deck, is a concentrate of ergonomic advanced solutions with the four individually standing control system screens, and the navigator corner as on a commercial aircraft.

With exterior design by Luca Dini and interiors design by the Admiral ‘Centro Stile’ in cooperation with Arch. Gian Marco Campanino, ‘NONO’ is a semi displacement superyacht with a raised pilot house and all built in aluminum. She features a very modern and innovative line – a real design-breaker within her category. ‘NONO’ has an elegant metallic light-bronze hull and a pearl-white superstructure with mat black areas in correspondence of the main deck windows and hard top details. With large glass surfaces providing natural light to the interiors, ‘NONO’ has a modern villa ambiance. Forward on the main deck is all about master cabin, taking the full beam of the yacht and featuring large side windows which give natural light to the whole environment. The master cabin includes a large ensuite bathroom located aft, which is directly connected with two his and hers walk in wardrobes. As a private vessel only, ‘NONO’ is to be used by the Owner and family. As a result, two of the four guest cabins located on the lower deck, are almost considered second and third owner’s cabin.

This yacht combines durable substance, seaworthy performance and low fuel consumption with airy, contemporary design and wide exterior space and surprising volumes. Nauta Air offers the perfect blend of the luxury and style of superyachts with the sturdy substance that characterises Cantiere delle Marche’s yachts such as the Darwin Class Explorers. Nauta Air yachts have been designed following a new proportion and a different balance of the interiors and exteriors architecture. A well-styled, comfortable motor yacht with an efficient wide speed range; safety at sea; built and finished to a high standard. Create a new form of long-range cruising yacht that had the ability to go fast as well as slow, with efficiency comparable to, or better than, other craft that operate in either of those speed ranges. It needed to be capable of long passages offshore, with safety andsea-kindliness. Stability had to meet the high US Coast Guard standard of commercial passenger vessels in ocean service. At the same time it needed to have a spacious modern motor yacht interior, rather than that of a typical trawler type yacht. Styling was to be a fresh version of the passage maker genre of yachts, and should remain attractive over a long period of time. The success of this design results from the teamwork of a dedicated, capable, first- class builder; experienced dealers; and designers with a wealth of relevant, practical experience. The unique hybrid hull and suitable propulsion deliver the performance sought.

The 70 Hardtop seamlessly blends comfort, luxury and performance to deliver the ﬁnest yachting experience possible. Radically different from anything else on the market, the 70 Hardtop “blends out” and turns heads wherever she goes. Signature lines and extensive use of glass create another opportunity to blend out from the crowd in absolute style with the performance to match her strikingly good looks. For the design, great emphasis was given to the sensation of space and light. A large one-piece windshield, over-size saloon side windows along with large side glass in the master cabin draw abundant daylight into the interior giving the occupants an overwhelming sense of freedom and a togethernes with the sea around them in all areas onboard. The radically modern interior reﬂects the contemporary design principles that set the 70HT apart from anything else in its class. Modern colours, lacquers and wood veneering create a truly fresh environment. Outside, the spacious cockpit features a super wide aft facing sun-pad, vast dining area with wet-bar and a hydraulic platform as standard.

The Nordhavn 68 is a seaworthy vessel that offers enormous space within a luxurious environment providing owners comfort, convenience and safety while cruising anywhere in the world. Karajas is the ﬁrst Nordhavn to be fashioned with an Art Deco theme, a style the owners employ throughout their home and wanted to carry through to their new yacht. Interior designer Scott Cole incorporated bold geometric shapes, rectangular elements, and simple, clean lines indicative of Art Deco. The minimalist look sharply contrasts the traditional style most often associated with trawlers. But, a Nordhavn – despite its traditional lines – is a modern and cutting edge machine and supports the avantegarde look. The Art Deco style is eclectic and modern and combines traditional craft motifs with Machine Age imagery. Materials used feature typical Art Deco colors of glossy black, chrome and silver, plus creams/off whites and shades of green.

Designed to turn heads, the breathtaking 181 ft/55.4m custom motor yacht Turquoise was built in 2011 by Proteksan Turquoise. Under her new owner, Turquoise has undergone a considerable interior reﬁt in 2014.

Appointed directly by the young Owner of the yacht and thanks to his trust, Luxury Projects (LP) Team had a real chance to change the complete mood and style of the yacht during the whole reﬁt process.

The Reﬁt was done in Italy, Genoa at Amico. Amico worked on all Exterior changes and MVS & Associates were the interior contractors. M/Y Turquoise’s new owner requested that H2 Yacht Design reﬁt the yacht with a more Plush look inspired by M/Y Talisman Maiton due to the fact that they have Chartered M/Y Talisman Maiton (designed by H2) a few times and loved how she worked.

Design and use of innovative materials were the focus points that allowed LP to fulfill the Owner’s requests and refresh all the interiors of the yacht achieving soft and relaxing atmospheres to be lived in. Avoiding the standard shiny leathers generally used on side and front panels of an open-yacht’s main salon, LP Designers carried out research into different finishes. The final result was that custom-made wall papers were used for all the vertical panels in the Salon, but also in different tactile finishes in the staircase and the forward TV lounge.

Elegant styling, beautiful furnishings and sumptuous seating feature throughout her living areas to create a tactile and comfortable environment to relax in. The Spaces, both exterior and interior, have been designed to accommodate as much human interaction as possible, to create a nice family atmosphere.

One of the major tasks for the Designers was to successfully marry the existing wood with the innovative aforementioned materials.

The new design was conceived to give her a new identity with a less formal interior suited to a younger and more relaxed lifestyle for groups of friends but doubling as a chic party vessel for high proďŹ le events. As well as providing a neutral backdrop for his 20th Century art collection, the owner felt the calm sophisticated atmosphere needed dramatic focal features to offset the rich monochromatic textured surfaces. A new internally lit onyx bar on the main deck provides a new meeting point for guests (as well as a discrete host station for crew during parties) offset by an astonishing eye-catching backlit black agate wall behind the new dining table. The observation lounge was re-orientated to look out - not in - and provide a haven of tranquility that can be transformed into a private cinema at the touch of a button. The use of new materials and products such as the feature marble by ShellShock Designs in the new modern interior creates bright, comfortable, ďŹ&#x201A;exible spaces allowing effortless change in use and mood from family to party mode by day or night supported by hugely improved service provision by the crew. M/Y “FOAM” is a 35 metre full displacement motoryacht, with a steel hull and aluminum superstructure, fully customized by the owner and designed by the in house design team of The Italian Sea Group, the ‘Centro Stile’. With a traditional and modern design, she features a raised pilot house – truly a much modern concept of the more traditional “navetta”. The grey hull creates an elegant contrast with the white superstructure, which together with the wide windows on the main deck, deliver a sleek design to the external proﬁle. The interior is a collaboration between Arch. Gian Marco Campanino Admiral’s Centro Stile. At mid ship, where the main saloon ﬁnds place, the structural bulwark gets lower to deck level to leave space to a panoramic balcony which is obtained within the side passages. This area also features full headroom windows which give natural light to the interiors. The sun deck is between the largest within this size, as well as the aft beach club.

Interior design on Yacht Entourage was dictated by absolute passion, tenacity and unquenchable enthusiasm of the entire Design Team. Developed and designed by Dragana Maznic in collaboration with The Italian Sea Group and Adler & Associates, its interior concept was born from numerous years of study and an effort to respond to a complex and challenging demand to design a temple that welcomes, embraces and transports to another dimension. With an intimate and welcoming aura, Entourage features open interior spaces that are imposing in their proportions. By blurring the transition between interior and exterior spaces, the interiors are showered with an abundance of natural light and create unobstructed views. Throughout the interior, a constant dialogue between light and dark, gloss and matte, cool and warm, hard and soft create visual interest and awaken the senses. Rare indulgence in highly reﬂective materials offers intricate reﬂections that entertain the eye.

This yacht demonstrates the purest Sanlorenzo style, enhanced and strengthened with cutting edge features and designed according to her owner’s requests and needs. The yacht is a semi-wide body in the front part, but with the volumes exceptionally well integrated in the profile of the boat. Sanlorenzo adopted many sophisticated technical innovations, such as the lifting salon windows – an exclusively automotive concept so far – that allow a natural interior/ exterior relation to better enjoy the seascape from a salon that becomes a terrace. A wide use of double glazing as bulkheads on the lower deck separates the guest cabins leaving the light flowing through the space and allowing a total view of the full beam. For the interior decòr, the best Made in Italy products were chosen, with brands like Edra, Minotti, Boffi and Artemide. A skilful lighting system hidden over the canvas roof can softly spread the light from the spots that remain invisible when not in use during the day.

The Owner’s brief was to create a fast modern yacht for world cruising. A big saloon on the main deck, a huge sundeck and a balcony in the Owner’s stateroom were among the mandatory requests. The Owner’s cabin also features 3 walk-in wardrobes, Technogym in-wall equipment and a gorgeous steam room with aroma and light therapy, ﬁnished in precious onyxes. All four guest cabins are incredibly big for this size with bathrooms ﬁnished in Carrara marbles. There are mirror TVs and a modern entertainment system with iPad and iPhone control throughout the yacht. The sundeck features a teak ceiling with yin yang logo including a very special light design with disco lights and a DJ booth. A key aspect of the project is its big interior volumes, modern Asian-style design and interesting exterior colour scheme complete with a dragon. The project Darwin 96 Stella di Mare is an the evolution of the model 86, but, from the younger sister retains the intimate elegance, with greater availability in terms of space and amenities. The interior is developed around a theme: the search for lightness. A smooth colour palette and luxury materials such as natural Elm, open pore white Elm and Travertino marbles, Stella di Mare boasts an interior style that is lush, luxurious and welcoming. This in addition to the large windows ensures a feel modern, clean and warm at the same time, thanks to the elm colours that change from brown to golden reﬂections. An Italian superyacht often means Italian design, and Stella di Mare is certainly no exception. With all interiors her style is perfectly contemporary and light, with sleek lines and modern, soft shapes. Overall, Stella di Mare offers an impressive, subtle and stylish take on superyachting. .

With a strong and muscular exterior, ‘Why Worry’ is a 43-metre superyacht with a lushious and contemporary interior with extreme attention to details in a stainless steel, white, black and red combination. Based in a very contemporary interior architecture in which the protagonists are the high gloss ebony wood and the off white leather, extraordinary red and white coral pieces. These colours are a running theme throughout ‘Why Worry,’ which are replicated over the various living spaces. The chosen contemporary art is all in black and white to keep a chic and sophisticated atmosphere. In the saloon, SA&V placed mirrors in the ceilings to provide a sense of enhancement to the room size. Throughout ‘Why Worry’ the environments were created by taking into account the comfort, usable space, the typical dynamics of a ship and the experience that people have in each room.

The Luxury Projects team almost “re-invented” the existing furniture functions and spaces from the original standard layout as in the introduction of the SPA and the VIP forward cabin. The independent Owner Area, full beam, rich of natural light both sides, shows her incredible spaces dimensions thanks to the glass doors dividing the cabin from the wide shower in travertino custom-designed tiles. The amazing GYM-SPA area, where the wide and equipped gym is connected, with a proper wellness path, to the emotional shower and the hamman, is still enviable even in yachts of bigger dimensions. The cosy salon with the relaxation area at forward and the custom lounge sofa opposite the TV are showing exactly the idea of asymmetrical spaces, where the dining area is the aft port side just behind the galley, custom designed in a white lacquered wood and top/splash in silestone material, same used for the bar counter creating a continuity of material from outdoor to indoor, through the big window for a direct serving facility and overlooking the cockpit with the comfortable aft sofa. The Sundeck offering an incredible space, allowed the designers to create different areas to enjoy sun, dining, relaxing and chilling out. From the Jacuzzi joint to the side sunpad, the relaxation sofa is mid ship positioned, opposite the bar counter, fully equipped with fridges, icemakers and a big barbeque-grill. One of the most exiting outdoor areas still remains the amazing forward sunpad on the maindeck with a proper atmosphere lighting and backlit biminis, where the top sound system is making it the proper space to enjoy a great cruise. 42

Christened “GIGRECA”, this deck saloon sailing yacht features a composite hull and deck. As a unique and highly bespoke sailing yacht, she boasts a double engine conﬁguration which guarantees fast and safe passages, without compromising the performance under sail. The Silent 76 creates a new breed into the bluewater cruising yachts; she is clearly a fast cruiser, offering a high level of customisation both inside and outside, all cloaked into a proven hull. ‘Gigreca’ is characterised by a full custom hard top, made of aluminum and glass, delivering a shadowed and protected area to the cockpit. Furthermore she boasts a dark metallic grey hull with dark red waterline stripes; the superstructure is painted in beige, while the hard top, aft rollbar and spars follow the same colour scheme of the hull. The big size hull windows, directly bonded into the hull, offer a fantastic seascape view, both at anchor and under sail and ﬂooding the yacht interior with natural light. Below deck the yacht is incredibly spacious, offering guests areas usually typical of much bigger yachts, thanks to the substantial volumes offered by the hull. 46

SAILING YACHT

As an iconic sailing yacht, Mari-Cha III arrived at Derecktor Shipyards in Connecticut, for a major overhaul on a variety of items. Clear Yacht Interiors focused on completely transforming the interior wood surfaces, removing about 85% of the interior millwork, as well as designing, repairing, fabricating and installing select joinery pieces, stainless steel elements, stonework, specialty exterior fittings, upholstered items and lighting. The extent of damage on the veneer surfaces (previously wire-brushed and refinished in a white latex paint), lead to the decision of sanding all surfaces down to wood adding thousands of hours of “zen” sanding. This labour-intensive work achieved an overall smooth, incredibly deep luster finish with a level of perfection that exceeded expectations. The additional custom joinery, stainless steel, stone, lighting and soft goods specialty work all contributed to a minimalistoriented design showcasing a fluid, clean décor which purposely reflected the aerodynamic, streamlined and sleek exterior of this recordsetting racing vessel.

A client approached Su Marine to build a comfortable sailing yacht based on their successful collaboration, ROXANE. His brief was for a more compact version capable of operating with a smaller crew. To improve sailing performance, the team have reﬁned the hull lines and introduced a ﬁn keel carrying a big bulb. Draft is moderate at 3.60 m enabling IN LOVE to cruise the Mediterranean bays and islands without much hindrance. A ketch rig with beautifully detailed Dökar aluminum spars, nitronic rod standing rigging, Navtec hydraulics, Bamar hydraulic furlers and lazy jack – full batten on main plus mizzen gives controllable wind power to a crew of three. There are three crew cabins for a total complement of six. Spacious engine room houses two generators as well as a 600 hp Scania engine turning a Bruntons Varifold propeller. With this set-up she burns 60 litres per hour cruising at 10 knots. Full throttle pushes her to 12 knots easily. Construction is executed in the best Su Marine old world craftsmanship, but using epoxy laminating technique for every structural component.

SAILING YACHT

In the last days of December 2014, the Sunreef Yachts shipyard launched the ﬁrst unit from the newest line of sailing catamarans – the Sunreef 74. In accordance to the wishes of the Owners, she has been named WildBerry. Her main characteristic feature is the elegant and dynamic design, which has been achieved thanks to a sleek superstructure with vertical bows and limited freeboards. The yacht has impressive living space and a fully open 35m2 saloon, which is located on the main deck, and offers spectacular panoramic views. The mast, boom, crossbeams and even the tender lifting arms are built in carbon, which makes the Sunreef 74 Evolution light and quick, while remaining stable. The very ﬁrst unit launched will also feature a carbon furling boom which will make all manoeuvres even easier. One of the unique features of the yacht is the fully automatic sail system, that allows the boat to be handled by only 2 people.

This layout has been developed for a potential private owner or as a very suitable adaptable arrangement for charter work as well. There are very generous entertaining spaces with a main deck saloon and dining room, conventionally divided but could be made into one generous space.

This 57m offers a modern classic exterior, heli-pad and two 8 meter tenders on the main deck creating the opportunity for an expansive aft beach club. The addition of the crow’s nest creates the perfect vantage point for those incredible views as the owner journeys the far reaches of the globe. The interior is spread over 5 decks all accessible by a lift and central stair case. The helm is located on the 4th deck which allows the upper deck to house the owners suite with incredible forward facing views. The key features of this explorer vessel are the ability to hold 2 large tenders, jet skis, heli pad and still have the volume to hold 14 guests in complete comfort. Hydro Tec feel the design ticked all the boxes that the team set out to with a classic explorer exterior look that is strong and elegant which also offers the owner the full interior and exterior superyacht experience.

The main deck spacious owners suite with his and her bathrooms -as drawn- incorporates fabulous automatically engineered port and starboard terraces providing fantastic open aspect vistas at anchor. It also combines a starboard side ofﬁce and a port side VIP suite. These are adaptable and could become a private owners gym in place of the VIP suite or 2 suites when the forward or aft lower deck suites could be joined to become a large full beam VIP suite with lounge and bedroom to maintain 6 on board suites. All decks are accessible via a 2 person elevator (having wheel chair capability).

Comprised of highly qualiﬁed designers, both companies have provided a unique and distinct project in Austin – a 74m explorer. With a balance of masculine and feminine interior elements, there is an excellent balance between light and dark, which achieves innovative colour variations. The interior is a perfect example of nature’s colours and textures: shades of blue and pine-green are inspired by water, wind, clouds and the countryside. The main salon can be used for a variety of purposes, as it is divided into several sections. The ﬁreplace with integrated library and cinema is an area for relaxation. Movable furniture and interior features mean that the user can alter the size of library and cinema according to individual taste and space requirements. The owner’s suite with its imposing King size bed, along with the main lounge, is the most important section of the owner’s deck. A writing desk and couch are placed to the right and left respectively of the owner’s suite entrance. Warm, earthy colours are used for the room interior, so that attention is not drawn away from the bed in the centre of the room. The colour palette of the owner’s suite blends into colours used for the the adjacent spa area, which also incorporates colours from the owner’s suite.

Using his extensive experience in nautical design, Aldo Cichero has designed an innovative 163m mega yacht with a steel hull, alloy superstructure, twin screw propulsion and a cruise speed of about 16 knots. The yacht consists of 8 VIP staterooms, 54 cabins, 60 bathrooms, 4 galleys, 2 main garages, 4 service boats, 4 rescue boats, 10 jetskis/ waverunners, 2 swimming pools, a fully equipped gym, a tennis court, a helipad, a cinema/ theatre, a decompression chamber, an infirmary and a deck entirely for the owner. This new concept breaks the usual strategy in today’s mega yacht design for its overall design from the aesthetic and functional point of view. The external lines have no reference to other stylistic solutions that have appeared on the market. The shape of the aft upper decks with the colouring of the hull and the form of the windows, simulates the dynamic effects of a luminous wake of filaments of a comet. Aldo Cichero thought to recreate an authentic exotic garden on board, to give the sensation of being on a island in the middle of the sea. The innovative cube on the flying bridge contains an oasis of tropical plants, inspired by ancient hanging gardens with many water games.

Sarp Yacht had to create a motoryacht which would stand the test of time. The intention for the design was to give character to the vessel in every possible setting she may sail to. For this her lines had to be nicely flowing, well-proportioned and fresh. Her shape and size are carefully refined to stay just below the 500 gross ton mark. Steel was the obvious choice for a strong and reliable hull with ample tank capacity. However, Sarp Yacht opted for epoxy composite to construct her curvy superstructure. By doing this, the team could save weight from the superstructure and fairing compound. The interior of Sarp Yachts’ new 46m motor yacht blends loft apartment styling and mountain chalet influences with a combination of high end natural timber and metal finishes. The aim was to produce a sophisticated and elegant interior, interwoven with clean simplicity of design that results in an inviting, comfortable and relaxing atmosphere. Organic marine animal inspired shapes dominate the design.

This truly graceful explorer yacht offers modern lines whist keeping the elegance of a classic motor yacht. The design brief given by the client was to produce a modern yet classic explorer with elegance and grace. She had to travel the world in complete comfort and be able to handle whatever the sea throws at her. Adding the huge rounded aft doors to enter the saloons opens the interior to the exterior seamlessly and still offers incredible views when closed. The folding aft hatch / beach club when open offers the owner and guests a vast outdoor entertaining space. The design is particularly successful as the team managed to merge the clients requests with new ideas such as the opening aft hatch for easy access and embarkation to tenders. They managed to keep the classic feel of an explorer vessel, but with adding the large strip windows and folding balconies for a modern touch.

Snow is a new sailing vessel with a radical approach. Her elegant lines with streamlined touches, combines modern design with classical taste. She has a draft of 4.85 m keel up / 7.5 – 12.1 m keel down with an innovative foldable keel, featuring a beam of 10.6 m. One of Snow’s many groundbreaking features is her twin masts that split upon hull and increase performance and stabilization. Aiming to offer an ultimate sailing experience, Snow is one of the newest generations of retro schooners with improved strength, comfort and sailing joy. Referring to classical schooner line, she has two equal-length masts that split and converge on hull edges instead of being placed on centerline. This twin mast feature brings enhanced stability and a considerable amount of space, therefore offers ﬂexibility in interior layout. Her modern lines serve for both beauty and functionality. With a nearly vertical bow, she has an increased waterline length and therefore more speed and hydrodynamic qualities. With increased space in interior and exterior, Snow offers relaxing areas, rooms for sports and recreational activities. The interior concept for Starfish draws inspiration from beautiful machines, nautical traditions and nature. Shiny metallic surfaces and carbon fibre forms are combined with natural wood, leather and stone to create an atmosphere that is both contemporary and classic. Nautical motifs of circles and stripes are reinterpreted as distinctive design themes to create a fresh aesthetic experience. The beautiful machine combines both function and style - not only is it beautiful but it is also beautiful to use. The beautiful machine is progressive and modern, it pushes boundaries. It utilises technology to create new experiences. Adventure has never been so glamorous. Materials are used in a pure and simple way emphasising their inherent beauty. Wood, stone, leather, wool, stainless steel and carbon fibre are combined and contrasted to create a distinctive atmosphere. Shiny surfaces are contrasted with matt, smooth textures with coarse, natural materials with industrial. The Saloon is streamlined, spacious and flooded with natural light. It features extensive full height glazing capturing spectacular views.

The final project was introduced during the Press Conference hosted by The Italian Sea Group at Yacht Club Monaco, on the occasion of the 2014 Monaco Yacht Show. It represents the synthesis of the values of the Group and it’s a perfect combination of the elegance and purity of yacht design joint with the force of the shipbuilding industry, in which the Group has a remarkable strength. During the show, an impressive 3m long scale model was on the shipyard’s display. � Force 145 was designed by Monaco based studio Dobroserdov Design focusing on innovative and elegant lines with a smooth and low profile design, in order to virtually lighten the overall design. The impressive continuity of glass surface, which has become a trademark of Admiral, ensures plenty of natural light throughout the ship, from the bow of the yacht – where an exceptional observation lounge has been located, assuring to VIP guests a breathtaking panoramic view – to the stern area, where a double level beach club & SPA with both internal and external swimming pool really makes this project unique. This area has been conceived as the main convivial and informal area of the yacht and it’s provided with any amenity you may need on board a yacht of this size. Interiors and beach club & SPA area, developed by Turin based architect Gian Marco Campanino - GMC Design, have been thought in close relation to the overall design of the yacht, in terms of fluidity, curved lines, rounded shapes and a large use of full-height sliding glass walls, in addition to double height spaces, private balconies for all VIP suites, indoor gardens and ponds, impressive fireplaces; all that matched with a style both futuristic and warm, made of the most precious materials and finishes combined with fresh and innovative layouts solutions, for a contemporary new top-level luxury standard. This 94 Voyager project combines the canonical yacht forms with the latest technological content: modern classic in the original sense of the meaning.

The plumb and ﬁne bow, canoe stern, raked mast, big cowls and classic windows with the balanced use of varnished timber all around deﬁne the character of this beauty.

It’s a timeless, so called contemporary chic interior with a personal touch, where luxury and elegance can be found in every detail. It is the perfect blend of traditional dutch yacht architecture, with a powerful elegancy and cutting edge technology. The pedigree 94 Voyager project aimed to bridge a gap in the current market, offering clients many features usually restricted to larger yachts.

Another exceptional design attribute in this classically styled but completely state-of-the art Yacht is that the upper deck is dedicated to the owner with his suite, dayroom library, protected exterior snug and open aft deck. The interior is a ‘Colonial-Style’ inspired design using a combination of classic details. The main objective being to maximise the natural light giving the interior a wonderful light and relaxed feeling throughout. The main saloon has a combination of light and dark finishes with a distressed dark wood floor and painted bulkheads. The bulkheads have a variety of classic details including raised and fielded panels and plantation style shutters. All these features are complemented by the use of antique bronze mirrors. The aft entrance has two oval feature cabinets with marble tops for displaying sculptures. The entrance also features a glass antique back-lit ceiling panel for added ambiance.

She will appeal to an owner who appreciates timeless style over current fashion trends. Her dynamic lines emphasise her length while the softness of the yacht’s surfaces adds an extra air of class. Thanks to the generous length of 94 feet, the yacht’s proportions have been optimised and combined with maximum indoor and outdoor living space. Mulder’s craftsmanship abounds throughout the main joinery, where brushed nickel lines are the main theme, resulting in beautiful and elegantly designed cabinets and walls. From professional applications to leisure use, the catamaran is a fascinating new concept to explore the deep sea anywhere in the big blue. Naval architect Cedric Ardoin aptly designed an elegant multipurpose catamaran with advanced technologies to operate a submarine with the full line-up of U-Boat Worx submarines. Dedicated for day charter with limited crew requirements, is a support vessel which can accommodate up to 12 passengers. Moreover, the choice of engines includes an inboard diesel and a class 4 water jet, ensuring a 25 to 30 knot cruise speed. The large platform on the back for the C-Explorer submarines is equipped with a hydraulic platform that can lower down the underwater craft when launching is required. “The is the accomplishment of my yachting experiences,” added Cedric Ardoin. “This basic version can easily be personalised, by adding for instance crew cabins or research laboratories, extending the application to match the exact nature of the client’s need”. 66

The key aspects of this project are light and space. The design brief was to bring the space and the feeling of a mega-yacht into a 26 metre raised Pilot House. The D26m Ilumen is not just unique in design such as merging interior and exterior spaces, but also in the experience it offers its owner. The owner and their family have the feeling of being in a luxurious villa with modern architecture but on the sea. The owner’s suite provides 180 degree panoramic views. A retractable ceiling makes it possible to sleep under the stars to the sound of the sea, an experience previously reserved for mega-yacht owners. The owner can literally breathe with freedom, being surrounded by nature without having unnecessary obstacles. Floor to ceiling windows are complemented by glazed side passages to ensure the ocean is always in sight. Exceptionally luxurious detailing and the most opulent materials are used such as backlit white onyx, ebony, zebrano, matt oak, silk, and soft nubuck leather.

PECONIC 43 is inspired by the classic Down East yacht, a maritime archetype indigenous to the north eastern United States fishing and yachting industry. As the perfect launching platform to create a contemporary statement, PECONIC 43 maintains the inherent traditions of the region it stems from. PECONIC 43’s hull flattens out the raised forward bow more typical of a classic Down East motor yacht, adding the feel of speed and power to the hull’s shape appropriate given the twin Yanmar Marine 8LV 370 MHP engines in its power plant which gives the PECONIC 43 a robust top speed of 48mph. The hand-crafted yachts by CH Marine, which include the iconic designs Vendetta and ALEXA for American singer /songwriter Billy Joel, evoke the style of the Downeaster and pay homage to a golden age of yachting with their exquisite detailing and refined hand-selected materials. The Peconic Bay, which separates the North and South forks of New York State’s Long Island, is steeped in maritime and seafaring traditions. Long Island Baymen have harvested the rich fishing waters for over a century using Down East vessels. Yachting in the region continues to link the famed harbors of Sag, Montauk the Hamptons and New York City as well as the Connecticut coastline, Block Island and other maritime destinations- teaming the region’s waterways with pleasure, fishing and commuter vessels.

The hull form is dominated by a long chine at about middle height of topsides. The inside volume and heeled stability is enhanced by this chine especially at aft part of hull. Two crew cabins are positioned in this flat portion aft of the galley and third guest cabin. A raised salon is the hub of all traffic onboard with access to all compartments. Forward of the salon down three stairs are two guest cabins. Further forward of this is positioned the master suite. All cabins are ensuite with separate shower stalls. On deck forward of mast is completely flush with the exception of 120 mm high bulwarks running the length of the vessel. The anchor system is also hidden under a flush hatch, deployed by utilising a folding arm. A mixture of hydraulic winches and captive winches enable this exciting yacht to be versatile in megayacht racing or three-crew passagemaking. Rig will be a tall, three sweptback spreader, carbon spar with nitronic rods. (EC6 carbon standing rigging is also possible).

This 12m motor yacht features interior design from by Haak interior design of excellence and exterior design by Fuhrmann & Ochoa Hamburg. The interior space is conceived of 8 persons with 3 double cabins in the middle and front of the yacht (both cabins can be changed for lounge expansion) with 2 bathrooms and shower. At the back of the yacht there is an excellent sized kitchen area with lounge and dinner area opposite. The interior represents waves and the organic forms of the ocean and flow throughout the body of the boat. The sundeck features a bar and lounge area as well as a washing room. The interior elements and furniture comes with warm and natural colours. The style of the whole interior architecture is characterised by curves and wave shapes. The interior aesthetic therefore reflects the basic shape of all yachts. “Conventional straight lines, corners and edges are avoided where possible. This enables the dynamic lines of the exterior surface to flow straight to the heart of the boat – a perfect symbiosis between interior and exterior”, explains Kathrin Haak.

Marshall The new 112’ Tri-Level features five staterooms including a full-beam master on the main deck. The fullbeam master has a large seating area along with a spacious vanity as well as a small night-head for the owners’ convenience. The master head, located forward, has a full-sized Jacuzzi tub with separate shower and his-and-her walk-in closets. The full-beam master will be a private oasis for the owner and will be very hard to find in this grand style on other yachts of comparable size. This yacht will also include formal dining with seating for 10 along with al fresco dining on the aft deck with the expansive table and settee. The crew quarter arrangements allows from four to six, depending on the configuration. The skylounge provides an additional living/entertaining area with seating for 8-10, a game table, and opens to the immense boat deck. The boat deck, being one of the largest found on this size, includes and oversized bar, an enormous settee and table, along with a hot tub. With all of these amenities, it still maintains a generous floor area for ease of access to all areas on the deck. The pilothouse forward has side doors leading out to a Portuguese bridge to help facilitate docking and provides panoramic views. This complete refurbishment of a Falcon 50 N96UJ was undertaken by the Fort Lauderdalebased Aviation Resource Group, Inc. The Falcon 50 is considered to be one of the best-designed corporate jets in the world. The 9 passenger executive configuration features a four place forward cabin. The same craftsman sewed each seat ensuring the same hand and attention to detail throughout the interior. The clean, uncluttered and functional lines has allowed for maximum onboard comfort. The luxurious finish and harmonious blend of discreet and elegant colors coupled with natural materials are combined to create a timeless aircraft interior. Modern forms and essential design cues create a soothing cabin environment and a unique and intimate relationship directly with the sky. Aviation Resource Group, Inc. have defied the industry norm with this Falcon 50 interior by using a gray oak veneer finish in matte clear coat. Organic and natural colours were incorporated to create a very contemporary yet soothing in-flight environment.

The interior design takes the high-tech capability of the cockpit (fly-by-wire / glass cockpit) into the cabin zones. A blend of state of the art technology and meticulous, detail oriented craftsmanship makes it a modern, comfortable and user friendly environment. Large glass panels in the valance sections feature touchscreen control and information monitors that merge modern styling with improved ergonomic function as well as reliable redundancy. Storage zones on the side ledges open like jewel boxes, framed by complex shaped machined accents. Floating surfaces allow for tasteful separation of materials that are crafted in the spirit of individually tailored elements chosen by the Owner. All this wealth of interior exploration is governed by an overlying architecture that uses GD&T principles for maximum fit and finish and accessibility reducing assembly and maintenance cost. Bombardier collaborated with Mr. Lauda’s own personal designer – Hannes Rausch to conceive and complete this unique project. As the focus point of the overall design, the inspiration for styling was a small grey pinstripe fabric. Although the veneer, to some tastes, could be considered quite busy, the fact that all the rest of the materials for the most part have all the same pattern and colour makes it look more relaxed. At the same time it has a very elegant and “manly” feel like a nice worsted wool or pinstriped suit. It makes one wonder if the entire scheme could be viewed as a window into Niki Lauda’s secret alter ego. The Global 6000 sets the performance benchmark in the ultra-long range jet category. This exclusive product features three dedicated ‘solid state’ zones: lounge, bathroom, bedroom just like an exclusive hotel room and is certiﬁed for two people – an unprecedented travel experience. Offering total privacy with a completely enclosed sleeping compartment, ‘The Residence’ offers 125 square feet of real-estate, ensuring a truly luxury experience for passengers. There are three separate and unique colour schemes with unique table marquetry and carpet designs for each. The Private double bedroom is completely enclosed and features a bedside table with two personal storage drawers, and a full length wardrobe. The layering of adjustable mood lighting is a spectacular feature. A fretwork-inspired mood light along the length of the bed is combined with a ‘dappled-light’ projection on the curved ceiling and an under bed mood light – together providing an enchanting ambience.

Designer: PIERREJEAN Design Studio The challenge for PIERREJEAN Design Studio was to create a state-of-the-art interior for Emirates A380, offering the very best in luxury and creativity, unparalleled in the market. The overriding philosophy was to optimise passenger well-being, to replicate the sense of comfort experienced when entering a top end hotel and to tie in with modern needs by providing the best in technological facilities. The brief from Tim Clark, President of Emirates was to create something unique following the brand launch for the A340-500. Based on PIERREJEAN Design Studio’s VIP aircraft experience we spent a lot of time together in discussion, sketching out and developing the concepts until the very best design was reached. Part of the challenge was to convince Airbus that this would be a great opportunity to take this new aircraft and move differently in relation to the aircraft regulation which had been written thirty years ago. PIERREJEAN Design Studio worked closely with the Airbus A380 design team to deﬁne the new concept, capitalising on mutual expertise and research opportunities that working together allowed.

Etihad Airways “The Apartments” First Class Cabin Submitted by: Acumen Design Associates Interior designer: Acumen Design Associates (Ian Dryburgh, Nigel Lawson, Anthony Harcup). ‘The Apartments’ First Class Cabin is the world’s largest, most luxurious and highly-customised ﬁrst-class suite, achieved via a revolutionary patent-pending cabin layout. The single central aisle (1:1) of ‘The Apartments’ is completely unique and different to any product that has gone before, with real room-like proportions, offering a separate seat and bed without compromise to either, and corridor of ﬂoorspace allowing dynamic passenger movement around the suite. This provides the passenger more choice in how and where they relax, eat, sleep, and even entertain other guests. In 6 of the 9 suites, the passengers can even open up the suites into doubles creating a spectacular space. The increased storage space has allowed the overhead bins to be removed and pave the way for the highest privacy walls in the sky – giving a unique architectural feel to the cabin. With an unrivalled space of 39 square feet, ‘The Apartments’ is likely to set the benchmark in luxury First-Class travel.

In particular the materials and colour palette have been developed to overcome regulatory constraints. The refreshed First Class product offers our Cathay Paciﬁc’s First Class passenger a more harmonious experience throughout their journey – from ground to the air.

In 2008, Etihad Airways embarked on a search for a leading design agency partner to design the future cabin interiors for their new ﬂeet of A380 (and latterly B787) aircraft. With an ambition to be the ‘best airline in the world,’ Etihad outlined a vision for their project that would build on their success and continue to redeﬁne airline travel. The EDC – Etihad Design Consortium brought together three companies. Acumen was chosen to design the on-board seating across First Class, Business and Economy. Factorydesign was tasked to design the passenger experience and cabin interior such as galleys, lavatories and passenger destination zones. Honour Branding’s role was to coordinate the project and interface with Etihad. The vision was to bring the individuality and exclusivity of a ‘Luxury Boutique hotel experience – that embraced Arabian modernism’.

Created by London-based Viewport Studio, this complete design of the Upper Class Cabin and Bar for Virgin Atlantic Airways creates a unique and dynamic experience for passengers. Specialising in product design and architecture, Viewport’s work on the Upper Class Cabin & Bar included monuments, lighting scheme and new Premium Economy feature wall. Virgin Atlantic are renowned for their on-board bar and this was Viewport’s second design for the world-class airline. The theme for the project was “emancipation of ﬂight” – to respond to the exciting innovations of the Boeing 787 and to create a new experience for the passenger. Viewport Studio have angled the bar so that is faces the passenger on boarding, which creates an entirely new dynamic for the crew interaction. The cantilevered bar and the sharp cutaway on the underside creates a distinctly architectural quality, which also provides emphasis on the lightness and volume of the aircraft entrance. The angled ceiling panels create a subtle refraction of light into the space. As a special feature on-board this aircraft, Viewport Studio developed a bespoke lighting system with over 400 individually programmable segments.

COMMERICAL CABIN - ECONOMY /BUSINESS CLASS

Etihad’s ‘Business Studio’ aims to be the game changer of business class travel. This product, exclusively designed by Acumen Design Associates provides unprecedented real estate to the business class passenger, rivalling the space, luxury and comfort of most airlines’ ﬁrst class seats. This unique FWD and AFT seating conﬁguration combined with staggered, interlocking ottomans allowed Acumen to maximise the amount of real estate for each business class passenger without compromising the overall seat count.

Guidelines speciﬁed that 80% of the look should be inspired by contemporary South African culture and the remaining 20 per cent from the wider African continent. Following a research visit, Priestmangoode and The Brand Union distilled a plethora of details – from colours to materials, traditional crafts, local fashion and trends, and inspiring interiors – into a concise visual story, portraying expressive pattern, warm tones, and textured surfaces. A well-proportioned colour palette of gold and anthracite with lively details was selected. Inspired by the country’s people and wealth of history, the palette contrasts the dark anthracite of contemporary South African architecture and cityscapes with the rich saturated golden tones of winter sun and earthen landscapes. Highlight colours such as burnt red and blues signify the ethnic colour burst of civilisation within the landscape. This offers vibrant, yet subtle notes of colour in the cabin through reveal details, brand panels, and feature stitching.

Interior designer: dSign Vertti Kivi & Co. With interior design from the renowned dSign Vertti Kivi & Co., the Helsinki-based company have created a product which is a first of its kind onboard an aircraft. Finnair´s new airbus aircraft feature a cabin interior largely based on the Space Alive concept developed by dSign, where the main idea is to change the mood of the cabin space as the flight progresses. Lighting colours and different moods have been programmed by the minute. As an example, when approaching the Far East the cabin is flooded by warm sunset tones, and when arriving in the Nordic countries the surfaces are lit with the colours of Scandinavian sky, from Northern Lights to a clear blue sky. Aircraft design offers many challenges, for instance with the weight of materials. dSign worked extensively to bring aboard something of an experience along with changeable moods using ecological lightweight materials. The lighting design is also to become an integral part of the new look of Finnair aircrafts. Only the newest materials of the highest quality are used. Business class seats have been fully customized to meet the needs of Finnair. This all creates fresh, clean, blue-white, high quality look for the aircraft. As the first European airline scheduled to receive the new generation Airbus 350XWB aircraft, Finnair are expecting delivery in the second half of 2015. Location: Paris, France Interior designer: D.L.2.A This Air France First Class Lounge concept was the “Air France House,” in reference to the famous French house of Haute Couture and tailor made services. This lounge, situated at CDG Airport, is an astonishing place of well-being where the guests can nicely prepare a long journey. Air France provides its clientele with a ﬁrst class service all through their journey: from their house, by providing a car driver, up to their destination. At the airport, travellers are welcomed by a valet in charge of the luggage and accompanied to the Check-in lounge, a real de-stress and quiet space, with a prime relaxing service, comfortable seating, relaxing wall lighting effects and no check-in counter, to avoid standing in line. After the VIP security checking, you arrive in the main First Class Lounge where you can enjoy a real À la carte meal by Alain Ducasse, the three star Michelin chef. Customers can also get a massage at the renowned Biologique research spa brand. Several salons and relaxing rooms with long chairs and alcoves give a wide choice of ambiance. A library, E salon and bar complete the ﬁrst class amenities. Upon boarding, passengers are accompanied by the hostess through the boarding salon with its red glass screen and are transported directly to the plane by private limousine. 88

The lounge is designed by the renowned architect, Ricky Liu, and represents a nation with exquisitely ﬁne culture. The façade of ‘Plum Garden’ has a “Moon Gate”, transformed from traditional circular shape into an oblong gate that looks like a peach (Tao) pronounced homophonically as ‘Taoyuan’ where the Lounge is located. The massive painting “Jade Mountain in a Sea of Clouds” of Master Junbi HUANG as well as the caisson ceiling elevate the exuberance and importance of the reception lobby. There are also two private VVIP lounge rooms which can be connected strategically with their own exclusive restrooms and showers behind the display window. On the other side of the hallway, single rooms and double rooms are programmed with various seating capacities which are able to meet the privacy requirements of the premium guests.

This Maple Leaf Lounge provides travellers with a Canadian experience in London’s ﬂagship Heathrow Airport. The renowned Toronto-based Dialogue 38 are responsible for the timeless interior. The lounge is infused with native sights and textures. Maple wood and cross-cut Eramosa marble are used to create drama and warmth throughout. Furniture and artworks by Canadian artists are displayed throughout the lounge. Hospitable areas and services present guests with a range of selections to work, or simply relax and refresh. The maple wood and Eramosa marble are highlighted by the dramatic lighting. The upscale lounge feels open and airy while providing zones for travellers to feel private as they explore Canadian furniture, art and materials that are used throughout the lounge.

‘Summum’ - the Dutch word for “summit” is the perfect name for The Netherlands’ most exclusive private jet lounge. Amsterdam-based FG stijl spent six months crafting an interior to reflect the lifestyles of those who use it: combining style and practical functionality at the highest level of luxury. Situated on the 4th floor of Schipol’s new private jet terminal, the lounge spans 500 square metres. This location offers an expansive vista through wide, landscape-shaped windows across the private jet runways, disembarkation area and helipads. The entrance corridor is dominated by a backlit honey-coloured onyx wall which is reflected by 6.5 metre mirrors on the opposite wall and offset by black carpet and ceiling. The bleached wenge wooden floor corridor leads to the reception area where a portrait “Xteriors XIII”, by one of Holland’s most famous living artists Désirée Dolron hangs - described as “the Vermeer of the 21st Century.’ The colour palette for The Private Jet Lounge features a selection of tones of inspired by nature, that are brought to life by complementary and contrasting touches of warm ochre, burnt orange, emerald green and the ever-stunning metallics bronze, silver and copper. These Lounges, aimed at the Business and First Class traveller, were to be an extension of existing Emirates Lounges around the world, incorporating the Emirates brand but a first ever for Emirates in terms of their scale. The Concourse A First and Business Class Lounges brief was to incorporate the key branding elements that describe Emirates: elegance, timelessness, warmth, hospitality, comfort, hospitality and neutral tones The lounges feature an excellent range of facilities – comfortable and welcoming as well as logical in their flow, incorporating privacy, comfort and technological convenience as top priorities. Sophisticated finishes and fabrics are practical and easy to maintain, which endure the traffic circulated through the lounges.

FIRST CLASS LOUNGE

Airport: Helsinki Airport Location: Vantaa, Finland. Interior designer: dSign Vertti Kivi & Co. This Finnair Premium Lounge opened early August, 2014, at the Helsinki-Vantaa airport. The lounge is located in the Non Schengen area in adjunction to the existing Finnair Lounge. The interior design of the new Premium Lounge as well as the reception area shared by both lounges will utilise the Space Alive concept of changeable spaces from dSign Vertti Kivi & Co. The mood, colours, lighting, wall pattern and the view in the “panorama Widows” change according to time of day and seasons. The design objective has been to create a consistent customer experience for whole trip, from the shops and lounges to the aircraft. With sauna facilities on offer in this Finnair Premium Lounge, customers can truly relax whilst waiting for their ﬂight. The Helsinki-based interior design ﬁrm have created a modernised look for Finnair, which clearly sets itself apart from other airlines with quality, freshness and changing moods. dSign managed to offer the customer a cohesive experience - the Customer Journey. The changeable moods and the Space Alive concept are integral to this.

This requires a high standard of outward appearance, ambiance and comfort. The design in combination with an outstanding service should enthusiast the sensitive and international clients, so that the new VIP-lounge will add to the positive reputation of Frankfurt Airport. The world wide typical lounge style should not serve as an example or framework for the new VIP-Lounge. High touch is more important than high tech. The overall appearance of the design is fresh and contemporary. With a warm and welcoming ambiance, travellers are treated like a guest at a friend’s house. The location, directly adjacent to the runway and with windows all the way to the ﬂoor, provides the guests with a spectacular view and experience. Privacy and cosines are essential for VIP-travelers. Classical furniture in combination with modern elements and art should help to achieve an elegant and individual atmosphere. A selection of high quality fabrics, wall coverings, furniture, lighting, accessories and, of great importance, the incorporation of art should emphasise the high standard of the VIP-lounge. The lounge is divided in several areas of different sizes. A combination of private areas such as a ﬁtness room with adjoining marble bathrooms, small private lounges, a well equipped conference room, an extra exclusive royal lounge/library, a shopping area, a bar and an open lounge for bigger delegations. Star Alliance wanted a very Brazilian Concept where passengers could relax in a special place and not in atmosphere similar to an airplane, an office or any cold living. Through extensive research, Indio da Costa AUDT acknowledge that clients want a homely feel – a warm place that could relieve feelings of stress and tension. Without using an easy approach of traditional luxury items to create the project, Indio da Costa AUDT decided to utilise the heritage of Brazilian craftsmanship. After this first step, the second approach was to be organic and fluid and with a diverse range of kind of woods, textures, natural material furniture, tiles, raw strings, but always ensuring excellence and comfort of each piece. Cultural and representative of Brazil, In Flight Solutions = Star Alliance VIP Lounge is provides a sense of sophistication to the VIP traveller.

The first level features a bar and comfortable lounge zone. The second level is a mezzanine equipped with meeting rooms, shower facilities and restrooms. The idea of this area is that there is a literary component, which, in general, is not typical for this kind of architecture, but in this case becomes a successful allusion, suggesting a way of organising space. The volume of sophisticated shapes placed in the centre symbolises the famous Ural Mountains of Russia, and the insertion of stained glass in it – the Ural gems. The structure recalls a labyrinth, or a number of connected tunnels. The tunnels are filled with warm light inside and are finished in wood – in here are variously arranged cosy relax-zones. The outside of the labyrinth is painted in a greygreen colour with a rough texture – the etched copper and artistic plaster were applied for surface finishing. The contrast of cold and warm light as well as the colours literally draws the visitor into the “depths”. The labyrinth allows one to explore the variety of impressions in relatively small space. In general, these “Ural Mountains” are the attraction, fully functional and at the same time meaningful.

The design project for the United Club and United Global First Lounge at Heathrow Airport’s new Terminal 2 began with a clear focus: to creatively and responsibly deliver distinctive, stylish and state-of-the-art airport lounges”. The architect approached the project as a hospitality assignment, designing a series of spaces that offer customers many opportunities to feel at home while travelling by creating distinct and comfortable spaces. Using timepieces throughout to represent detail and precision, the lounges are shaped into three zones; the United Club, which includes signature furniture pieces, vintage aviation artwork and sculpted organic installations and private phone booths; Shower Suites, featuring high-end spa-quality shower and restroom facilities; and the Global First Lounge. The Global First Lounge establishes a new standard for international lounge design by elevating the concept of traveller luxury.

The brief from Qantas was to reflect a new boutique style concept representing Hong Kong adeveloped for the Qantas Singapore Lounge. Hong Kong is the perpetual Asian city: a fluid, swiftly evolving metropolis surrounded by stunning wilderness. It is a vibrant, vertical city split by an expanse of water and surrounded by clam and nature. Hong Kong also represents both a vital business gateway and a home away from home for a large international business community. This was the concept and vision that influenced both the planning and architecture of the lounge, in which the Qantas Hong Kong lounge became a metaphor of Hong Kong. Kowloon Peninsula and Hong Kong Island and are represented by the bar and dining areas which capture the vibrancy, movement and interaction of people. Surrounded by these elements, there is a calm and relaxed atmosphere. The verticality of Hong Kong is embodied within the building’s large steel structures which are used to break up the large site, creating intimate, private and secluded spaces for customers. These structures reference the steel signage structures fixed to the sides of buildings within the city area. Meanwhile the canopies pay homage to the city’s side streets where small eating-houses and stalls provide privacy and escape from the bustling city while still remaining connected to the action. 96

Designed to be an extension of the city of London, like cathedrals of the past, Vidal intended for the terminal to be a destination in itself—an iconic building where people can relax, enjoy the welcoming atmosphere and experience the wide range of amenities, services and retail the airport has to offer. Natural light, acoustics, textures and colors, intuitive way finding and retail and amenities are all elements in which Vidal incorporated into the terminal to enhance the passenger experience.Consistent with many of Vidal’s previous airport designs is Terminal 2’s striking roof, soon to be an iconic image of London. Oriented to the north, it supports the environmental credentials of the building by providing a generous presence of natural light, while also benefiting from a reduction in solar gain and energy consumption. As Heathrow’s most sustainable terminal yet, Terminal 2 reduces CO2 emissions by 40 percent compared to the buildings it replaces and will be the world’s first airport to be awarded a BREEAM EXCELLENT rating for its sustainable building design.

Airport: Christchurch International Airport Interior designer: BVN Architect: BVN in associateion with Jasmax led by National Director James Grose The functional brief was to provide the terminal hub for regional travel, but also to design a memorable and emblematic New Zealand space as this is the staging point for many international visitors to the major destinations of the South Island. Airside is designed as a reﬁned abstracted wing, which sits quietly but in afﬁnity with the propjet aesthetic. Emblematic of New Zealand, the narrative chosen was to abstract natural forms related to the South Island, where the Southern Alps, which are the backdrop for the airport, are expressed in the folded form of the ceiling. The large timber truss is expressive of the old timber trussed bridges found throughout the South Island and the organic forms of the café and the bespoke seating are found along the coastline as the forest meets the ocean with kelp swaying at the ocean edge. The truss functionally provides a dedicated access pathway for goods that need to be taken from the ground level loading dock to the upper level of the domestic terminal retail. The truss also provides high level glazing ensuring direct sun – especially in winter – can penetrate deep inside the terminal.

Airport: EZEIZA International Airport Location: Buenos Aires, Argentina Interior designer/ Architect: Israel Alba Estudio + Kenny Risso SA Arquitectos Designed by the Madrid-based Israel Alba Estudio and Argentina’s Kenny Risso SA Arquitectos, the Buenos Aires Admiral’s Club was a twostage project, forming part of the expansion and refurbishment of Terminal C of the Ministro Pistarini International Airport in Ezeiza, Buenos Aires. The lounge, specifically for American Airlines and Iberia has a relaxing and quaint atmosphere, characterised by two horizontal plans, floor and ceiling, such as continuity and a white colour scheme. The customised furniture made with corian highlights the color of the floor. The proposal organises and orders the space by means of a central geometric core, which its undulating shape compresses and expands the space between the existing glass façades. This creates separate areas within the lounge complex to meet the tender requirements. This central element clasps the wet areas and technical installations within its structure, as well as those requiring a degree of privacy or isolation from noise, such as toilets, showers, kitchen or workcenter. This undulated and continuous part is clad in oak and contains a line of LED lights, energy efficient.

Airport: Gatwick Airport, South Terminal Location: London Architect & Interior designer: rpa:group rpa:group developed the design, managed approvals with the airport and provided construction phase drawings for the build. As part of this brief, rpa:group were required to take an existing concept and to adapt and apply this to ﬁt with the newly proposed space.

JHP’s store for Global duty free retailer Dufry in São Paulo’s Guarulhos Airport is unlike any others in the world of travel retail. It is a highly colourful, vibrant and dynamic store concept. At 3,400m2 it is very much ‘department store meets hypermarket’. The large circular glowing red ceiling drum acts as a great armature, facilitating the dispersion of customer journeys around it to different parts of the store. Brazilians are among the world’s greatest eyewear buyers so the design agency placed sunglasses in this location – the heart of the concept. The brand new store concept addressed two core elements facing the airport – preparation for the huge inﬂux of visitors arriving for the 2014 World Cup and the forthcoming Olympics in 2016. It also accommodates the projected increase in business due to the doubling of the import tax allowance from $500 to $1200 for passengers arriving into the country. The result is that arrival stores are vast and of almost hypermarket scale representing the ultimate meeting of luxury and commodity. By embracing the vibrant energy and passion of Brazil, JHP have created a grand affordable bazaar housing the world’s best fashion, beauty, confectionery, ﬁne wines, watches, electrical goods and accessory brands. 100

RETAIL/ LEISURE SPACE

With a free reign to develop and present new ideas, rpa:group maximised the use of the space, as well as the look and feel, fixtures and fittings and overall design elements of the entire retail space. The design layout literally “channels” the customers through the entire unit so that they are exposed to the maximum number of concessions in an effortless flow. As part of the redevelopment plans for the terminal, the departing travellers can only enter the main airport departure concourse through the World Duty Free store. The utilisation of a striking black curved raceway, made from high gloss ceramic with reflective elements in it, both defines and guides the customer journey through the store – generating interest and then maintaining it with the use of multi media zones, refreshment zones, and vendor display zones. The ceiling needed to comply with the fire safety requirements, by having large areas of it left open to the rafters above it. rpa:group ensured that the ceiling complied with this, but we also designed it to become a striking sculptural element, with curves and spirals undulating above the entire retail space.

Tjep. was speciﬁcally selected to design a prominent area of Schiphol Airport, in Amsterdam. The Area, lounge 3 features a restaurant (Bread), cheese counter (Say Cheese) and a ﬂower shop (House of Tulips).

TYIN was asked to design this regional area in the Heinemann store at Trondheim Airport.The project has two main objectives. First, to show the uniqueness of the city and its cultural heritage. Second, to create something authentic and real, in stark contrast to the otherwise artiﬁcial and sterile environment of the airport.

As a surprising and innovative ﬂower shop, the prominent green design incorporates two Dutch icons: a typical Amsterdam town-house façade and a greenhouse. Every morning a hydraulic system lifts up the house, creating the sunny atmosphere of a ﬂower market underneath. The new plaza is a leading and inspiring space with an atmosphere that has a strong link with The Netherlands. This important landmark allows for a unique experience for passengers at Schiphol Airport.

Hiding behind the facades of Trondheims unique wooden buildings are the backbones of Norwegian building tradition, the timber log structures. This way of building is several centuries old, and still in use today. Trondheim is also known for its steel industry related to shipping and seafare, another integral part of Norwegian cultural heritage. TYIN began the process by searching for an old, traditional log house typical for the Trondheimarea. The log house dates back to the 1880s. After saving it from certain destruction, it was carefully dissected and moved it to an indoor building hall. The rotting logs were removed, and the shape of the remaining structure dictated the design. All work on the project was done by local craftsmen in a local setting. With this project TYIN attempted to display their core values, way of design and love for simplicity in details and material choice, at the very heart of the commercial world. Interior Designer: Jeremy White, Richard Seale Seymourpowell has designed a concept economy seat for airline travel that has been inspired by difference, new materials and ﬂexibility. Called Morph, the seat has been designed to offer passengers choice over the amount of space they pay for and to provide a better ﬁt for more travellers.

The gap between business and economy class has never been so wide. B/E Aerospace’s concept aims to add glamour, prestige and luxury to intercontinental economy class travel. The design re-imagines a benchmark for comfort, living space and customization. As trade increases between China, the Middle East, Europe and Australia, the demand for intercontinental travel will rise. Airlines with an unrefined main cabin and sophisticated business class create inconsistency in the carrier’s branding. Future forward travel will use economy class seats with optimized space, sumptuous comfort and finishes that harmonize all cabins to create a better experience. Major components of the seats have been redesigned to bespoke standards. Gone is the infamous round recline button, replaced by a larger flush mounted design. Tactile surfaces are wrapped in Italian leather. The typical flat seat back has been re-sculpted with a wraparound headrest shroud evocative of mid-century lines. Aisle side panels use custom inserts to incorporate finishes consistent with business and first class designs. Lastly, the same panels and armrests are fitted with fiber optic lighting. The patent-pending design gently illuminates the aisle floor and between the passenger footprint for ease of way finding. 104

CONCEPT CABIN

Morph uses smart architecture to adjust both the width of the seat, and individually control seat pan height and seat pan depth to suit varying sizes of passenger. This creates a scalable value offer for airlines, allowing them to arrange the economy cabin by people’s willingness and ability to pay for space, blurring the boundaries between the classes. Morph replaces traditional foam pads with a fabric that is stretched across the width of three seats, around a frame and over formers. One piece of fabric is used for the seat back and one is used for the seat base. The fabric is clamped down by the armrests and the upper dividers to form three individual hammock seats. By moving the formers and pushing them through the fabric we can control the recline and a large range of ergonomic adjustments, morphing the fabric to provide a tailored ﬁt and greater comfort.

Optima Concept Submitted by: Acumen Design Associates Interior designer: Ian Dryburgh, Ali Ersan, Daniel Clucas, Bujar Muharremi Optima is a patented, high-density, lay-flat, all-aisle-access business class seat-layout designed exclusively by Acumen. The design combines in-line and angled seats to give an unrivalled density and passenger offer. As a prominent consultancy in the premium aircraft interiors industry, Acumen have designed many cabin interior products for airlines and manufacturers alike. With a thorough knowledge of the opportunities for innovation within the existing marketplace, “Optima” was designed in-house as a speculative project to the following brief: to create the most space-efficient lay-flat business class cabin with individual aisle access for every passenger, whilst maintaining a truly premium seat offer. A high density product means more passengers, so the design had to be lightweight in order to counter the increased weight. From a passenger standpoint, it was important to deliver classleading space, with the high-end, yet simple and intuitive amenities. Lastly, in order to be commercially flexible, the underlying layout and structure needed to be adaptable enough to cater for every wide body air-frame type, and be easily customisable for the airline. The reason “Optima” is so special is that with a clever pairing of in-line seats with angled aisle-seats, it delivers a flat bed, individual aisle access for all passengers, lots of side furniture, and most of all it matches the density of a standard ‘step-over’ passenger layout. This seat is more efficient on almost every wide-body aircraft than any other lay-flat seating product in the industry – which is great for the airline, and offers a very premium, private experience to the passenger. Completion Centre: List Interior Designer: Design Q Design Q has created an innovative cabin mock-up for Inairvation. The design rethinks the traditional aircraft layout creating a living space for aviation travel.

Interior Designer: Eddie Sotto Exterior Designer: Eddie Sotto “What if a Yacht could ﬂy?” Eddie Sotto’s background as an experiential designer comes from a non-traditional source, the entertainment industry. He feels that applying the methods used in ﬁlm design to a yacht or aircraft can add a new dimension to luxury as it has a providence or story. SottoStudios/LA starts with emotion and creates a design from what you want the owner to feel.

Design Q has integrated functionality into the aircraft. Cabin management systems are controlled by a concealed touch sensitive user interface system embedded into the furniture. Working with the Inairvation team Design Q has used technology to drive design. Design Q has changed the base inside the aircraft using a diamond conﬁguration to create a greater sense of space. Zones of four seating areas can be transformed to allow additional features to be implemented such as a dining area and full size bed. The design creates a unique social layout, containing and integrating original ideas and concepts with amazing use of light.

The interior is seamlessly informed by both classic and modern design, while focusing on handmade luxury. The details all reinforce a cohesive “Story” within the practical envelope of an Embraer Lineage 1000E. Skyacht One’s striking faux mahogany fuselage suggests a Ship’s “Hull” and “Rudder”. The Entry lounge features an Italian marquetry mural recalling the “Age of Exploration.” The British Campaign inspired Galley reinforces this theme. Skyacht’s Ofﬁce and Main Cabin contain bejeweled analog controls embedded in varnished “trusses” suspending intricately planked walls and brass bezeled windows. The Captain’s Quarters features a malachite inlaid Master Bath. HX1 Jet concept Submitted by: Peugeot Design Lab Interior Designer: Peugeot Design Lab Exterior Designer: Peugeot Design Lab Inspired by the Peugeot HX1 concept car, this private jet concept offers a vision of exclusive, hi-tech and luxurious travel. The innovative design is highlighted by a strong and distinctive visual identity. The HX1 jet concept is notable for its sleek body proﬁle, terminating in the jet ﬁghter inspired integration of the turbines. Continuing the theme, the tail plane is divided into V-tail stabilizers, mounted at 45 °, which create a unique signature in this segment of airplanes. Integrated into the leading edges of the wings are powerful, state of the art LED lighting systems. The lightweight interior was created with luxury and optimized ergonomics in mind. With a modular design and intelligent seating system, it is possible to adapt the interior to comfortably accommodate 14 business class passengers or create an 8 seat VIP lounge.

Belvedere Submitted by: Mecaer Aviation Group (MAG DESIGN STUDIO) Interior designer: MAG Design Studio Exterior designer: MAG Design Studio The concept “Belvedere” developed by MAG Design Studio explores augmented reality and a new approach to the flight experience. A video of the concept can viewed here: www.skyachtone.com/video/ High-definition floor and ceiling screens play images captured by external cameras; creating a virtual separation of the cabin and an appearance of two divided shells. The passengers will experience a unique and privileged view of the external environment and dynamic panorama. Upon entering the aircraft, a spacious galley can be found, including several amenities and other storage compartments; near the galley is an attendant’s seat, lavatory and access to the cargo area. The VIP area is equipped with four adjustable armchairs, enclosed in two spacious shell-like ledges and equipped with four additional seats creating a sofa effect. The upper Passenger Service Units (PSU) are equipped with LED accent lights, reading lights and storage areas. Each VIP seat has two dedicated extractable tables and removable supports for touchpads. Electrochromic windows, MAG proprietary product, are disguised behind adjustable Louvres. A fitness area equipped with cardio and strength training equipment separates the VIP area from the master bedroom. The bedroom features a king size bed, a monitor and an en-suite lavatory equipped with a shower. When the aircraft door is open, the master bedroom enjoys the view of a small terrace, equipped with chairs and tables for an outdoor lunch. Such a design solution is achieved thanks to the specific aircraft type and doors layout.
