HOW TO ORGANIZE A PROJECT FOR PRESENTATIONS

PROJECT STRUCTURE

TITLE + Short Description ASSESSMENT Projects are divided into four sequential phases, each assigned specific objectives, timeframes and requirements.

PHASE 1 DISCOVERY AND SYNTHESIS

PHASE 2 IDEATION/ CONCEPTS GENERATION

PHASE 3 PROTOTYPING

PHASE 4 DESIGN FINALIZATION

Collect information, data, photos, films, articles and interview people to gain a broad overview of findings and needs for potential design directions. Deliverables: The research presentation must communicate your findings and persuasively illustrate the trends you have identified and the qualities you intend to explore in your design work. This should include technology, actual production and trends in lighting, interior and architecture. - The presentation will be a combination of digital and physical boards - Use bullet points to highlight the problems you have identified.

FINDINGS *1 Problem Identification / Goals / Opportunities *1 ------------------------------FINDINGS *2 ------------------------------FINDINGS *3

Based on and supported by your research, generate user scenarios and conceptual sketches and mock-ups to define the project’s general characteristics. Deliverables: Produce a large volume of ideation sketches and mock-ups that extensively explore the conceptual, aesthetic, user based needs and technical possibilities of the project. The outcome of this phase is a presentation depicting at least three design directions and concepts that represent the design’s contents in a clear way. - Organize ideas/sketches into groups according to the problems you have identified in phase 1 and clearly outline three concepts and design directions.

SKETCHES RELATED TO FINDINGS *1 ------------------------------TO FINDINGS *2 ------------------------------TO FINDINGS *3

Based on the feedback from the previous presentation, one concept will be selected for refinement and all aesthetic and technical choices will be consolidated; the project will be elaborated and refined in all its formal aspects. Deliverables: Renderings, sketches, mock-ups, technical details, storyboards and any useful information to clearly explain your design intentions and

The design is finalized through elaboration of the project in all its formal aspects, functions and user experience. Deliverables: A professional presentation including the digital portion. Physical model, poster and a process book that will outline all phases of the project including project description, market research, selected copies of sketches and renderings, photos and/or digital renderings.

THE SUCCESSFUL PRESENTATION IS A POWERFUL STAND-ALONE WORK WHICH CONVEYS ITS MESSAGE IN HOW IT IS DISPLAYED

Project refining, prototyping and validation

The final design must reflect the solutions to the findings identified in phase 1. It must be packaged in a story-telling presentation highlighting the main characteristics of the project.

SINGLE SERVE COFFEE MACHINE While doing the research, I quickly realized that the coffee world is always the same: black and silver, metal and plastic, similar size and proportions. I felt this language was not appropriate and I set out to design a form and experience that would compliment the dynamic and warm feeling of making and drinking coffee.

HELPING HAND Upper Limb assist A Device that can be worn by stroke survivors that will improve or re-establish upper limb function. A person can suffer a debilitating stroke at any time, with little notice. The lasting effects can be traumatic; in a moment, that person can go from being a fully-functioning member of society to being severely disabled.

Special thanks to Mike Harmon and Joe Cooper for providing their project for the case studies
