More than 80 members of Conductor’s Club experienced a Jacksonville Symphony rehearsal from a unique perspective: on the stage! “Stars of the Symphony” soloists Les Roettges, Jeff Peterson, Peter Wright and Philip Pan shared musical insights during an exclusive luncheon prior to the rehearsal. Special Guest with JSYO JSYM Principal Oboist Eric Olson was the guest soloist with the JSYO Philharmonic in Marcello’s Concerto for Oboe and Strings, conducted by Scott Gregg. The work was featured at the Jacksonville Symphony Youth Orchestra Spring Concert on March 9.

Aurelia Duca and Clinton Dewing are excited to introduce the newest member of the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra family, Siena Bella Dewing. “We are pretty certain she will be playing the violin very soon,” said the proud parents. The photo was taken on Siena’s first road trip with the Orchestra to the Kravis Center in West Palm Beach.

Concert & Pizza Party

More than 300 young musicians gathered on (and around) the Jacoby Hall stage for the Jacksonville Symphony Youth Orchestra Festival of Strings finale. Led by Scott Gregg, this showcase event included the JSYO Philharmonic and Overture, Foundation, Encore and Premiere strings, our Jump Start Strings violin students, and ensembles from LaVilla School of the Arts and Douglas Anderson.

“Pizza With the Players” is a new program bringing students and musicians together. Thanks to a donation from the DuBow Family Foundation,“Pizza With the Players” is being offered four times to select high school groups, free of charge. Students attend a Coffee concert and gather for a pizza with Jacksonville Symphony musicians as they learn about their roles in the orchestra. Jump Start Strings Receives Getty Education Grant

JSYM Community Concert Tour

The Jacksonville Symphony’s Jump Start Strings after-school music program was awarded a prestigious Getty Education and Community Investment Grant from the League of American Orchestras. The grant will be used to enhance the program, which is located in four Title 1 elementary schools in Duval County, enrolling nearly 100 children.

The entire Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra performed at Palms Presbyterian Church in Jacksonville Beach for a “Stars of the Symphony” concert led by Michael Butterman and featuring principal musicians including Philip Pan (pictured) as soloists. The concert was also performed at First Baptist Church in Fernandina Beach. Both Community Concerts were enjoyed by hundreds of local concert-goers.

Guest Conductors in the Spotlight This has been an amazing season for symphony-goers, with a roster of some of today’s best emerging young conductors on stage. There is much more great music to come as the Jacksonville Symphony’s music director search continues to take shape. Perry So (pictured at left) and the Jacksonville Symphony earned rave reviews at the Kravis Center in West Palm Beach, which was a reprise of the Masterworks weekend program. “Well, it happened again,” exclaimed the Palm Beach Daily News.“The Kravis Center audience was thrilled by the performance of the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra.” In addition to rehearsals and performances, a whirlwind schedule of welcoming events is planned for each guest conductor.
