Member Volunteers Since its inception as the “Women’s Committee” in 1950, The Guild of the Jacksonville Symphony Association (JSA) has given substantial financial support to our Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra while spearheading innovative music education opportunities for school children of the First Coast.
Open to all men and women interested in supporting the continuity of symphonic music availability, as well as music education, The Guild is known for both its effective leadership and the extraordinary commitment of its member volunteers to the First Coast community. Today, a growing membership provides the necessary human resources, energy and enthusiasm to keep The Guild a vital community force through its many programs of fundraising for the JSA and music education. Organizing a wide variety of efforts supporting this mission includes hosting Friday coffee concerts, JSA staff and orchestra appreciation luncheons throughout the year, and running the Nutcracker Boutique in December.
Fundraising Orchestrating fund raising events throughout the year, The Guild is proud to be consistently singled out by the JSA as one of its largest contributors. The most anticipated and successful of these events is the annual, three-week long, Symphony Guild Showhouse, a collaborative Guild project that involves both corporate and public sectors of the First Coast and thousands of volunteers! In addition to the Showhouse project, The Guild hosts a variety of innovative fundraising events such as our “Pops Concerts,” prestigious Symphony dinner events under the stars, and “Music for your Eyes,” our trend-setting, award winning painted violin project that benefits area music educators under the Harmony Grants program.
The majority of all Guild proceeds directly benefit the JSA. Our members continue the creative process of discovering new fundraising opportunities to interest and excite our symphony supporters, volunteering in at least one fundraiser per year. Ongoing projects include The Gift of Music, an endeavor that provides funding for the Klacsmann Library to purchase specific concert orchestra scores. And membership in the Guild Friends of the Jacksonville Symphony ensures continued involvement by the Guild as significant sponsors of Symphony concert artists.
Education & Community Programs Promoting Music Education is an integral component of the Symphony Guild’s service to the First Coast. Programs such as Scholarships for student members of the Jacksonville Symphony Youth Orchestra (JSYO), our Instrument Zoo classroom visits, the Musical Safari teaching booklets that accompany the I-Zoo programs, and Harmony Grant awards to teachers are all designed to supplement music education in our public schools, while providing thousands of First Coast students an appreciation of and exposure to orchestral music.
Working closely with music educators and JSA staff, The Guild Education committee continues to explore thoughtful means to augment the musical experience for both children and adults throughout the Symphony season, encouraging city-wide volunteer support for all its programs. Informing youthful audiences of today ensures the development of interested, appreciative audiences of tomorrow. Please detach the information side of this form and mail with your check to the Symphony Guild. We look forward to welcoming you!
