Placemaking Enhancement 2 - Existing Curb Extension Murals

WHAT

Throughout Downtown there are a number of street with existing curb extensions (bump outs) that were previously installed during various street improvement projects. These existing locations could be enhances with murals.

WHY

Curb extension murals provide opportunities for local artists to create artwork that is highly visible. These murals help to create interest and a sense of place. In addition, a recent analysis by Bloomberg Philanthropies found significantly improved safety performance across variety of measures during periods when asphalt art was installed.

BENEFITS

• Highly visible

• Creates interest and a sense of place

• Supports local artists

DOWNSIDES

• Some safety benefits but less than with entirely new curb extensions
