Forward Justice
Thesis - Ecological Design
Ecological Design -Sym Van Der Ryn The approach of this project is to create a symbiotic relationship between social and environmental justice through education and the exchange of ideas and realities.
Eco-Logic Design that is grounded in the natural systems and sustainable strategies to make decisions. Visual Ecology Putting the integrative technologies on display to foster an understanding of environment and place. Ecomorphic A new Aesthetic, where form is born from the responses to the climate and site. The building evolves from a series of positive traits.
Physical Context “We have rendered both nature and the consequences of our own technologies increasingly invisible. When living and working in nowhere places becomes normal, it is no wonder that we literally lose some of our sensitivity toward nature.” -analyze a site by the natural flows and cycles of energy embedded in the environment including; sun, water, and wind.
Formal Ordering “I find the term “regenerative” useful because it suggests the selfhealing, self-organizing, and self-evolving properties of living systems, which can coevolve with design and designers grounded in natural systems logic— what I call “eco-logic.” -A kind of aesthetic for the built environment, one that explicitly teaches people about relationship between culture, nature, and design. It is a powerful approach, since new ideas are learned most rapidly when they can be expressed visually and experienced directly.
Execution “The goal in ecological design is to create buildings and environments that are ecomorphic:, that is, their internal structure mimics and integrates with the natural systems within which they are embedded and connected. -The typology of the wall is conceptualized as a multilayered cell wall. The layers act together to regulate light, temperature, and airflow.

Visual Ecology Ecomorphic Skin Nature has designed an equilibrium in the environments ecological systems. This balance has been jolted my the built environment. 9
Environmental Control Office buildings (Internal Load Building) main energy consumptions is from cooling loads and lighting. The skin reduces radiation and controls lighting conditions.
Visual Ecology The building surface is emphasized as a tool to learn and support educational spaces on the inside. Reation to site is materialized in the surface.
Ecomorphic Form is generated from climate conditions and optimized through parametric evolution.
