The Script Magazine Issue#2

welcome

First of all, I’d like to congratulate The Script for hitting 1 million followers. I remember when I saw the lads for the first time in 2009 as a supporting band. They gave hell of a show and I loved them immidiately. I’ve never seen such an uknown band with such a talent. Well, they didn’t stay uknown for long and 3 years later they’re celebrating 1 million followers and even more sold records.

because we couldn’t do it without your support for this magazine. I can’t even describe how I enjoy doing something like this. It’s an amazing feeling to work hard on something when people really appreciate it and give me back a lot of positivity and energy. Enjoy reading and keep waiting for Issue#3.

The launch of The Script magazine was a big success thanks to everyone who supported this project. In one month we have 1260 readers and positive reactions from The Script fans are endless. That’s why I want to thank you very much for reading! Me and my team tried to make this issue even better than the first one and we think we made it. It’s up to you to decide but we have an amazing special guest – The Fallen Drakes – and richer content than before. We have few new sections and the design was improved as well. We are all learning here with every little thing we make and I want to thank you

My special thanks goes to The Fallen Drakes, a great band from Dublin, and to my team - Carla Silva and Brittany Samson who helped me make this magazine. Nicole Venglovicova Editor

the latest news:

New single Hall Of Fame T

he day has come and we all heard The Script’s new song called “Hall of Fame“. All the fans were looking forward to hear it. However, not all of them liked it that much. First wave of a doubt about this song started with revealing that Will.i.am would be featured in the song. Most of the fans watched The Voice UK and knew that Will.i.am wasn’t the nicest person to Danny. This was the biggest reason why fans don’t really like him. However we all have to realise that professionalism is based on taking criticism with a cold head and then being able to continue working and even being a friend with a person you just wanted to send to hell during the show. They both were a competition to each other in the show but we shouldn’t expect them to be enemies in the real life too. Opinions on “Hall of Fame” were very positive and Will.i.am haters started loving him. The song is very inspirational, has strong lyrics (as does every The Script song) and very catchy rhythm. The sound is something new to all of us. The lads came up with something slightly different than we heard from them before. Some of the fans love it, some of them don’t, but I haven’t seen anybody saying that “Hall of Fame” is not a good song. I’ve seen some people saying that it’s so different than the first album and it doesn’t even sound like The Script. Well, in my opinion, that’s actually a positive comment because if The Script sounded like

“Breakeven” with every song, they would be a one hit band. I don’t agree with the opinion that it doesn’t sound like The Script. To my knowledge, Danny O’Donoghue, Mark Sheehan and Glen Power are part of The Script also in 2012. I don’t understand why some people mind that the lads are growing and developing their

even recognise it on the radio. I totally agree with @ScriptLoveUK when she said: “Even with the changes, it’s still distinctly “The Script”. If “Hall of Fame” came on the radio, etc. and you had never heard it before, you would know the second it started that it was The Script without a shadow of a doubt.”

talents, change style, try and explore new things. As Mark says,

After all the discussions the conclusion is that “Hall of Fame” is a winner and fans love it. Go on Twitter or Facebook and see for yourself. Positive comments are endless. People love it and few people don’t. Well, I don’t know anything in the world that would be loved by everyone.

“We wanted to capture as much emotion in the track’s sound as there is in the lyrics, which are definitely some of the most positive and upbeat we’ve ever written.” Anyway, I don’t personally think that “Hall of Fame” sounds so different from their older songs that you wouldn’t

Let’s add that after “Hall of Fame” was revealed, the fans trended #ProudOfTheScript on Twitter in the UK. Written by: Nicole Venglovicova

1 million followers! I

n 2008, The Script began their road to success and, from having 40 people at The Sugar Club to the 50k at Aviva in 2011, the band grew a remarkable fan base. Because of this, July 2012 saw the band reach 1 Million followers on Twitter. Knowing their fans, The Script rushed and thanked their loyal followers with a tweet and facebook post, made a Youtube video and as a present, they had a Q&A session online.

Reading some of the posts from the fans we can easily see that The Script are loved by the fans not for their looks, but for their dedication to their music and because they recognize their fans unparalled dedication. Two Million is up next!!

After this remarkable achievement, the fans rushed to congratulate them. Here are some fan support:

place: camden director: Charles mehling lenght: 4:33 MINUTES “Nothing” is one of the most popular music videos of The Script. In our monthly statistics, “Nothing” is the most popular video from the Science & Faith album with almost 13 million views on Youtube.

It’s in 4th place for the most

viewed videos of The Script, and its number of viewers is increasing very quickly. The success of this video is maybe hidden behind the fact that all 3 members of The Script are acting in the video. It’s not just Danny but the whole band is involved in the story, and we can finally see the boys without instruments as well. Not that they look bad with the instruments, but we can see them naturally and from the different perspective than we did before. The story of the video is based on trying to take away the pain with the help of alcohol and friends. How-

17

ever, the end of video shows us how useless it is because alcohol simply doesn’t solve problems and we end up exactly where we started. This idea is expressed by finishing the video with the same shot the video started with. In the music video with a story, there are usually 2 different lines. The first one is the story itself and the second one is when the band is playing in an unknown place. These 2 lines are crossing each other to keep the rhythm and the pictures on the same level. You can even test this theory when you turn off the sound and just look at the moving pictures. Without knowing a song, you should be able to

say if it’s a sad, energetic, fast or slow. The lyrics are very emotional and this means to use a lot of close ups. You can see them mostly in the beginning when Danny is in the bar drinking and almost the whole section is made of close ups. We can see a lot of red and blue lights in the background, too. The connection between these colours is shown later

on – when Danny jumps into the Camden Lock. The water is blue and the girl he’s in love with is wearing a red dress. I like that The Script used humour in this video although the lyrics are so sad. It made me laugh when I saw that Danny was about to jump off of the bridge and his friends were talking and walking like everything’s fine. The boys obviously enjoyed

filming the video and it’s not hard to notice that. Danny actually jumped into the pool in the filming studios, and he admitted that it was a bit scary to jump from a decent height with all those clothes on. Mark said that the video reflects their typical Saturday evening. Danny also said that the song is very emotional, and he was crying during filming but we couldn’t see the tears because he was under the water.

the dark knight rises review

Directed by: Christopher Nolan Screenplay by: Jonathan Nolan and Christopher Nolan Cast: Christian Bale, Gary Oldman, Tom Hardy, Anne Hathaway, Michael Caine and more.

C

hristian Bale’s perfor mance in “The Dark Knight rises” was the best from all the Batman movies he played in. I think the Academy Award he got in 2011 for the performance in “The Fighter” gave him more confidence and it was not hard to notice. Anne Hathaway was playing her typical character which is itchy bitchy on the outside and hurt inside girl of many faces. She was really funny and as usual she gave a great performance. It was hard for Bane (Tom Hardy) to put a shadow on Joker’s

19

performance from “The Dark Knight (2008)” and I think that the filmmakers knew it and they didn’t even try that much. They did something else instead and I think it paid off. “The Dark Knight Rises” doesn’t start with a lot of action. Don’t expect fights or explosions and don’t expect them too soon. It’s a story about pain, however, you can feel that it’s only the calm before the storm. You know that the “fireworks” will

start and Batman (Christian Bale) will rise as it is written in the name but you don’t know when it’s going to happen. At some point I started feeling that some scenes were a bit of a fill into the cake that is too sweet already. The audience’s attention wasn’t there for 100%, however, there was always a lot of humour that broke the pain of Bruce Wayne. It seemed that the Batman will start rising very slowly. Interesting character with humour full of irony was a girl of many faces (Anne Hatha-

way). She seemed more clever than Bruce Wayne, and she changed her position from bad to good very often. Everyone was confused and everyone was laughing. Humour was used, I think, more than ever before in Batman movies. I assume it was because of making a balance in this sad story.

“I thought that the last scene wouldn’t surprise me because everything seemed so clear and obvious. How wrong I was...” Christopher Nolan movies are known for unexpected situations and conclusions. He always plays with viewers’ minds. He lets them think that this is going to happen and then he does a complete opposite. That’s what I love about his movies, I love when I’m never sure what’s going to happen. In the beginning it was obvious that Bruce Wayne and Batman will come back and it might be a bit boring but that’s how the story goes. What happened next was a little flashback from “The Dark Knight (2008)” but then the “fireworks” started. A set of original and unexpected situations, curiosity was growing and you wondered if Batman will actually survive or will he die. Close to the end of the movie you will just open your mouth, and you will see and hear what you would have

never expected. And it goes like a domino effect, one thing after another. Slow start of the movie has long and steep end. Batman has to save Gotham and in this scene there is almost a silence in the movie and the whole audience wasn’t even breathing. Everybody knew that this is it, this is the end of Batman and we will never see him again. People in the cinema were crying together with the characters in the movie. The story continued for a little longer and showed signs of some potential for the

future. I thought that the last scene wouldn’t surprise me because everything seemed so clear and obvious. How wrong I was. I can just say I left the cinema with a big smile, feeling a bit fooled but still smiling. Once again my opinion about Christopher Nolan’s talent and skills got stronger. The Script Some people live their lives, but never find the meaning. Some people see a life, but never understand the reason, but a poet lives and sees those lives, and with his eyes gleaming, puts into song, the love, the pain, the beauty, and the season. Robin Burcham

I heard you for the first time, one hot Texas summer day. Instantly I was in love, I had to hear more. And that’s exactly what I did. I rushed out to by your cd and had it on repeat for days on end. Something I still do this very hour. Your music is so much more than that to me. To me it represents love, hope, commitment Proof that hard work pays off. Proof that not everybody has the picture perfect romance. Proof that heartbreak is real. It also showed me how to overcome a pain. If I was in a dark place, I would put you on shuffle and play it over and over again Until I was ready to face the world. Thank you for being here to help me, when nobody else was. You mean the world to me. Here’s to you, Glen, Danny and Mark for being my inspiration for doing what you love for staying true to yourselves. I hope to meet you in person again one day, so until that day comes Thank You. Mailen Deddens, @MailenDeddens

The Script Magazine: Tell us something about yourselves. Introductions please (for the ones who never heard of you)

come from anywhere, watching a movie, hearing another song, or from personal experiences!

The Fallen Drakes: Hey everybody we’re a band called The Fallen Drakes and we come from Dublin, Ireland.

TSM: Any specific formula to write your songs?

TSM: How did you get together as a band? TFD: We formed in late 2010 while we were all separately traveling around the USA. Brian met Hyder in a bar in Memphis, and started drinking together, and Hyder introduced him to Nabz, and from there became friends and decided to form a band, so we rang a great guitarist we had heard of called Michal and asked if he’d join, and the rest as they say is history! TSM: Your songs are so emotionally charged. Where do you draw your inspiration? TFD: Inspiration for songs can

TFD: We don’t really have a formula for writing songs, and I think that works best, otherwise songs will all sound the same. Sometimes we start with a lyric, sometimes a melody, sometimes a guitar riff and once it was a drum beat that set us off! TSM: What is the best thing about live performances? TFD: The best thing about playing live is the connection you can have with the crowd. Lately our gigs have been getting busier and busier and most people know all the words, and sing them back to us, which is amazing! TSM: What or who is your biggest musical inspiration?

TFD: We all listen to different music, which we feel adds to our sound, but the acts that we admire greatly would be Coldplay/The Script/Temper Trap/ Snow Patrol...... TSM: Many bands have come out of Ireland and gained international success U2, The Coors, The Coronas, The Script. Do you feel like the general people are taking notice more of the artists that come out of Ireland now? TFD: There is a great scene in Ireland at the moment, and I feel the success of Irish bands on a worldwide scale helps to promote the scene and keeps people interested in hearing new Irish music, which is great for new bands like us! TSM: With all the economical struggle happening , not just in Ireland, but also all over Europe, how does that influences your music? TFD: We’ve all been affected by the recession in one way or

another and it was a catalyst in the formation of the band when some of us lost our jobs, so we’ve tried to portray that in some of the lyrics, so hopefully people can relate to the struggle that we’re singing about! TSM: Tell us something about you that no one knows... TFD: We all have a massive hatred for ketchup! Honestly! TSM: Favourite Hobbies TFD: Michal goes to a lot of gigs, Hyder loves to play golf, Nabz likes to go to the gym, and Brian likes to go to the zoo!! And we all love to eat Haribo Tangfastic jellies!! TSM: You’re preparing a new album. Tell us something about it. Where are you heading, creatively after the success of

“Death of An Actress”? Did you expect this type of acceptance from the fans? TFD: We recorded ‘Death of an Actress’ very quickly, and put it out not really expecting much of a reaction from people, but it really took off. We had thousands of downloads in a few weeks, and got some huge gigs from it, but we weren’t together very long when we recorded the EP and we feel we’ve developed our sound a lot since then, so hopefully the fans like the new songs. We love them, so fingers crossed they do too!! TSM: Last but not least, a message to your current fans and to your future ones. What would you tell them?

TFD: To our current fans, we would love to say thank you so

much for all your support and for helping us achieve our dreams, and to future fans, thank you for taking a chance and taking the time to listen to us, hope you enjoy the music!

We thank The Fallen Drakes for their awesome music and we can tell that they are just beginning their awesome journey. The band is preparing their forthcoming album and you must take your time to listen to them. Their sound is unique and no one is disappointed! Written by: Carla Silva

We love drinking tea Tea is a much appreciated drink throughout the world

This document defined China as the country in the world that introduced tea to the world. By the 9th century, Buddhist monks take tea plants to Japan and, both in China and Japan, tea sees a development and growth in several areas: Economically, artistically, poetically and religiously. Nowadays, Japan has a very complex tea ceremony called Cha-no-yu and it originates from very ancient Chinese rituals that go back to the Ming Dynasty (ruled between 1368 and 1644).

Tea…. One on One

Tea is the leaf of the tree ca-

mellia Sinensis. It was originated in Tibet (China) over 5000 years ago. This was a drink used only by Buddhist monks until Chinese Emperor Cheng Nong started to consume it. The first written evidence about tea was called Luyu Treaty or Ch’a Ching. Written during the Tang Dynasty, it explains the cultivation and preparation processes in China.

Tea time during the Ming Dynasty

After Japan, tea started to arrive to the West when Portuguese ships brought the plant to Lisbon. From Lisbon, it was spread out to other countries like France and Holland. Soon after, Holland conquered this commerce and started shipping it to other places . The first European to even write about tea was a Portuguese Jesuit Priest Gaspar da Cruz in 1560. The Introduction of tea in British Court was made by Catherine of Braganza, when she married King Charles II in 1662. She taught the royals how to prepare and to drink it with scones and marmalade (marmalade is the English word for the Portuguese marmelada). Marmalade in England is orange jam, while in Portugal it is quince jam (quince is very rare in England, so it was substituted by

In Europe, there are only two plantations that still produce tea. Both of them are in the Azorean island of São Miguel. The initial experimentations for tea cultivation on the islands started in 1750, but it was only in 1874 that Jose do Canto, a botanical expert on the island, started the cultivation of tea at his family plant Gorreana. Today this factory still runs and produces most of the tea on the island. Besides Gorreana, there is only one other plant called Porto Formoso.
