Value Map
VALUE MAP
WHY
Using a value map to understand your challenge will help you to expand your ideas. A Value Map is a powerful graphic technique. It maps out your thoughts using key words that trigger associations in the brain to spark further ideas.
per branch; 4. Colour code your branches: colour coding links the visual with the logical and helps your brain create mental shortcuts; 5. Include images: use images throughout your mind map
HOW
Value mapping is a team activity. Use the Value Map to visualise and analyse your team’s challenge by following the steps below: 1. Place your challenge in the centre: articulate the challenge to trigger associations; 2. Add branches to your map: the main branches, which flow from the central challenge, are the key themes. You can explore each main branch in greater depth by adding smaller, offshoot branches; 3. Add keywords: when you add a branch to your Value Map, you need to include a key idea. An important principle of mind mapping is using one key word or idea
EXAMPLE For an energy company, the team brainstormed about the meaning of energy for customers and they started with ‘Electricity’ as key word to create branches that included ‘Comfort’, ‘Light’, ‘Television’, etc.
