FOREWORD The high school years, beginning with the freshman year, and ending with the graduating Senior class, are filled with memories which will be cherished long after high school years have gone by. To a freshman, these memories are not important, yet, as he becomes a sophomore or junior, memories become a part of his school curriculum. To the senior, the memories are a part of the past, to be remembered in an adult world as childish incidents. This 1960 Derrick is presented to you, the faculty and the student body, as a holder of the memories you will hold so dear as time continues.

DEDICATION

This year, the 1960 Derrick has been dedicated to the one teacher who holds a thankless jo b .

He has been an employee at Burkburnett High School for seven years.

Our bandleader has done much to bring honor and glory to our "alm a m a ter,* as you can see from the many awards the band has received in the contests it entered. Mr. Wickersham, the Derrick Staff, along with the rest of the faculty and student body, would like to take this opportunity to congratulate you on your wonderful work, and thanks for your devoted tim e and toil toward the making of a top-rate band, and a top-rate school.

"IN MEMORY OF” Death cares not for youth, nor youth’s ambition, and thus it snuffed out the life of a beloved school mate and friend, Joy Eidson, Her years were short, yet they were lengthened as she brought the happiness and casual carefreeness that can only be associated with a young g irl. Her capacity for undaunted humor, and a personality which was her trademark, followed her and grew with every day of her life . Life is so short, yet hers was shortened as she had only begun to discover life; a child on the threshold of adulthood. With Joy's death, we have all come to realize what joy she brought to each and every one who had met her.

An annual serves as a record of past accomplishments. It is a book of memories. As such, it does not reflect the true temper of the nation and world of which the school is a part. Today, the world is troubled and the American de mocracy that we hold so dear is facing a severe test at home and abroad. Many of the values your school has tried to impart becom e increasingly more important. As you take your place in the world, remember that the most vital component part of democracy is human relations-respecting the dignity and the integrity of the individual and the group. May your future be so planned and managed that the im portant experiences of your life will bring you both honor and satisfaction. Sincerely yours,

BAND The Burkburnett High School Bulldog Band has just completed another successful school year under the baton of Drum Major Lafaye M cDonnell. She was assisted in her duties by assistant drum major Shirley Thaxton and head m ajorette Joyce Frields. The band performed at the football games and various parades in this area. Dressed in their gold and black suits with white shoes to m atch, the band was a pretty picture to see at all performances With the marching season over, the band concentrated hard on their con cert season which included the Jacksboro and Interscholastic Contests. The band is under the direction of Mr. James C . Wickersham.

Electricity will close your windows at the first drop of rain. Lamps will cut on and off automatically to fit the lighting needs of your rooms. Television “screens” will hang on walls. An electric heat pump will use outside air to cool your home in summer, heat it in winter. And there will be plenty of electricity to operate these electrical wonders of tomorrow.
