The 1972 DERRICK is dedicated to Mrs. Dorothy Page The words of William Faulkner truly portray the devotion of this worthy teacher.

"I feel that this award was not made to me as a man, but to my work - a life's work in the agony and sweat of the human spirit, not for glory and least of all for profit, but to create out of the materials of the human spirit something which did not exist before. "

New Principal Regulates Tempo

I would like to compliment the entire student body and faculty for a great year.

The student body has, throughout the year, merited the compliments

often paid them: namely one of the best mannered, most appreciative, and the most courteous group of students found anywhere. It makes me happy to see the way the whole student body has developed pride in your school, your community, and most of all in yourself. I hope that each student will realize the ambitions, dreams, and aspira tions that you have developed. May you always have a belief in the worth and dignity of your fellow man and gauge your life accordingly.

To School Spirit

A whistle command and a raised baton signaled the start of the first half-time show of the Bulldog Band, under the direction of Mr. Jimmy McClain. It also launched the opening of an active season of rehearsals, contests, and performances. This year the Burkbumett Bulldog Band received a "1" for the skillful precision drills performed at contest. Par ticipation in indoor and outdoor pep rallies and the playing of such songs as "Horse, " and "O Ye Como V a ," added to the over all feeling of unity.

Directing the band throughout the year is Mr. McClain.

The Mighty Burkbumett Bull dogs put together another fine season this year. At the beginning of the year we were rated fourth in the district. The Bulldogs were obviously underestimated. After our first shaky loss to Lawton, the dogs began to roll. Through seven straight games, they con quered every team . The most satisfying win was our victory over Iowa Park. What a game! One none of us will ever forget. But then there was the loss to fired up Hirschi and the disappointment of Brownwood. We ended the season 7 -3 , and rated #2 in the district. We’re all so proud of these young men. They’ll always be #1 to us. Coaches show concern for injured player, Rick Beard.

In recent years golf has become one of the most popular sports a round. BIB is no exception. Last year our golf team won a 2nd place trophy at the Bluebonnet Tourna ment at Brownwood. Although golf is not a major sport at BHS and is not recognized as much, it is still very much a part of our athletic program.
