MORLEY TOWN’S FUTURE
THE BRITISH MUSEUM, GREAT COURT REDEVELOPED IN 2001
KING’S CROSS STATION
WINSDOR COURT REDEVELOPMENT Winsdor Court is from the most representative places in the town. It should inspire visitors and citizens of Morley. It is also one of the focal points in town. Therefore its renovation should be taken into careful consideration. Being renovated with an more organic roof the space will change completely its vibe. A new lattice roof ,like the famous British Museum’s renovation, will contribute to atmosphere in front of the Town Hall making it the perfect spot for interacting.
ST MARY’S IN THE WOODS
Saint Mary’s Church is one of the most distinguishable landmarks in Morley town. It played an essential role in town’s history. It also covers over 1,000 years. Saint Mary’s Church attracts and fascinates visitors even now when it is abandoned. Numerous people have expressed their fascination with it on internet. Therefore the my proposal is that the building should be kept. In my vision the church should be renovate so it would be safe for people to go in. With its high ceilings the space would be perfect for an art gallery. Inside the building itself it can be placed curved modular ramp. The construction of which would be light and easy to deconstruct but yet safe and stable. The ramp would have several levels depending on the height of the church. Moreover it will wrap around the walls on which will be displayed different exhibits. The Church’s garden will also play an essential role to the new renovated town landmark. In future there can be placed a stage where local bands and artists can share their work with people from Morley and town visitors.
ADJACENT SITE NEXT TO THE NEW PAVILLION CINEMA Morley town lacks places where young people can go in their free time. The free space next to the cinema pavilion gives the perfect opportunity for creating a space where youths can spend their after school-hours and elder people can join and engage in different activities. The area would be perfect for erecting an Youth Centre. It would provide space for various educational and recreational programs such as arts and crafts rooms, computer labs, dance rooms, a recording studio, costume design shop, tutoring and study spaces, classroom, office. It would also contain adaptable gymnasium with additional seating for daily practices. It could also convert into a performance area. There would also be included cafeteria which can overlook both to the gymnasium and to the town. By creating place for youngsters to spend their time the town will improve a lot.
THE GARY COMER YOUTH CENTRE
OVERALL FUTURE OF MORLEY Morley Town is close to Leeds. Many citizens travel to Leeds and to other bigger towns on a daily basics to reach their working places. There are mainly elderly people living there. However Morley has the potential to become a well developed dormitory town. There are some suggestions for improving town’s infrastructure: • Better shopping Facilities • Improving Health Facilities • Improving the state of the existing parks and creating new ones if possible • Improving Station’s appearance • Photovoltaic farm
