28 CURRENT MASTERS - ZOHAR WALLACH
ZOHAR WALLACH Calgary, Alberta Canada
Born in Israel in 1965, Zohar’s artistic passion started at a very young age, when she used to experiment with organic components and use it in her creations. She completed her Bachelors of Arts degree in Haifa University, followed by Handwriting Analysis studies. Zohar later joined the corporate world as a human artist, as the vibrant local colors captured her heart and inspired her to pursue her original passion. Zohar has an intuitive approach which incorporates dynamic sequences into the most trivial elements. Over the years she developed her unique style of work by applying thick layers of paint and sand onto the canvas, peeling and distressing it, and adding new pigments as she goes along. She allows the spontaneous alchemy between her mediums to unfold and follow natural elements that start to form within the layers. Her process is highly intensive and each work takes several weeks to complete as the different layers dry and become a new denotation.
sensitivity to those basics, turning subtle variations in texture and tone into images with a powerful physicality and an otherworldly sense of mystery. Her skill at handling color, combined with her strong compositions, result in works that vividly project a sense of space, depth and movement. The visual world she creates is shape different structures found in nature. Zohar’s paintings are being sought after by corporate and private collections all over the world. She resides with her family in Calgary, Canada.

GÜLTEKIN BILGE Glasgow, United Kingdom
Turkish Cypriot artist, born in Cyprus in 1945, Gültekin Bilge received his M.A. from the Istanbul Academy of Fine Arts, where he studied under Devrim Erbil and Ali Çelebi before graduating from the atelier of Dinçer Erimez. Bilge was unable to paint for many years after losing the use of his right hand when he was shot in the 1974 Cyprus War. During recovery he worked as an art teacher whilst following developments in contemporary art and searching for ways to create his own unique style. His art philosophy is centered on the concept of concealment. He uses color to weave many hidden abstract portraits, deep into the texture of his works, to symbolize that many aspects of human relationships and human society are obscured. Since moving to the UK in 2011 he has received many awards and his work has been exhibited internationally throughout Europe and in the USA, Canada, Australia, and Japan. His works are held in private collections in Turkey, Cyprus, Norway, Germany, UK and Japan.

My gradual immersion in the theme of the Orient began in 1991 when I received a commission from a Zurichbased publisher to illustrate Leo Tolstoy’s parable “How Much Land a Man Needs”. I revel in improvisation in the style of the oriental miniature, improving my technique and sense of colour and composition while I work. It was an Arabian carpet that inspired me to realize this triptych. It my meditations, and which took two years to paint.”

Anderson was a full partner in EsbinAnderson Photography in New York City for more than 20 years. Together with her husband, they were a husband/wife team and did photography for corporate and book publishing clients as well as head shots and family portraits. As independent photographers, they developed an idea, then she would write up/draw story boards for them to use on the stock photo shoots. They would send these to eight different stock photo agencies all over the world who would market them on their behalf. Anderson has dedicated her career art and creating unique and beautiful pieces of work. She is extremely proud of her career and in the recognition she has received for all of her work. Anderson stays active in the artist community through her Art Society and American Cetacean Society. Outside of her professional endeavors, she is charitably involved with the San Diego Natural History Museum, and enjoys listening to jazz, protecting the environment, attending the opera and reading.

I began drawing as a small child. My aunt framed a little drawing of Cowboys and Indians and hung it in the room where we ate. The recognition and encouragement from my family and others made me the artist that I am. I take a sketch book with me most all the time, especially when I travel. Today I make collages of trees and forests and like the windows in that room we ate. Since retiring as a graphic artist, I continue to do drawing, painting and constructions of found objects. “My vision as an artist is to challenge society’s tendencies towards conformity and trivial matters through focused play. My creative process often begins with a note that stands out because it is off key – or with crazy forms and colours, ending – if all goes well – with a more balanced sensory impression. The creative play may commence at the piano, continue in a text and end up in a painting – or in the reverse order. To me, what is decisive is not the tool, fabric or medium with which I work. On the contrary, I feel strongly about passing on my thoughts and feelings during the work process in a powerful and balanced seek out coincidences. I work constantly with the interplay between intuition and logic. Intuition, when I throw paint at the canvas, strongly inspired by the American painter Jackson Pollock. “My pieces are instinctual; an emotional response to some aspect of the model or to a quality in nature rather than their depiction. Notes are taken from life and then completed in studio. This allows for the initial feeling to pervade, use of materials, or predominance of mood. The idea of the “open statement” is also important to me. I want viewers to actively participate in the decision making process. Minimizing descriptive detail lends a sense of enigma to the work, allowing for multiple interpretations and contributing to a sense of timelessness.” Jane du Brin had a scholarship for Figure Drawing at Laguna Beach School of Art, studied with Hans Burkhardt and Wayne Thiebaud and received her MA at Cal State Northridge. It is they that complete the work, and in essence create the conversations inherent in the work, allowing us to connect in a way that wouldn’t have existed otherwise. I am fascinated by this, and wish I could talk and listen to everyone captured by my work. It becomes a glimpse into the creative and often psychological realm of our nature. A believer in the Mystic Law of Cause and Effect, the choices I make from one mark to another, one symbol cause leads to an effect and on and on which does determine how our lives unfold. These stories are told through the use of rhythms, colors and symbols with an occasional representational reference. They are told from my heart.

AYDA MANSOUR Montreal, Quebec Canada
Born in 1990, Ayda Mansour grew up in an artistic surrounding, with an internationally renowned photographer as an uncle and a grandmother who was a curator, artist, interior decorator, gallery owner and art promoter. Mansour was exposed to the art world at a young age. She attended a private American school in Egypt; Cairo American Collage where ‘Artist of the year’ and ‘Highest Art Achievement’. Following her graduation in 2008, she moved to Montreal, where she continued her studies at Concordia University, graduating with distinction in Bachelor of Fine Arts. “My artwork is a portrayal of all of the social, political, and cultural issues that I have experienced throughout my lifetime. As an
my release through my use of colors on a canvas. I began by painting realistic and surreal images of my fears and thoughts, but eventually, I evolved towards the abstract. It is not always easy to capture an exact image of an emotion that is taking over your mind. However, through using different techniques of applying paint to a canvas, as well as carefully choosing my colors, I am able to express myself, allowing the viewers to let their imaginations hold individual interpretations. In my opinion, what differentiates me from other artists are the calculations that my mind makes as I am putting the colors onto the canvas; it is not spontaneous. I was born in Cairo and I currently live in Montreal, Canada. The idea of living between two very different cultures tends to create an emotional struggle, as your mind is constantly bouncing back and forth between what’s going on in your two homes.” - A. M.

Because I was born in a Romanian family in Geneva, Switzerland, the eccentric tendencies of my relatives often clashed with the principles of the Calvinist society we lived in. Raised in a Cartesian society where only a pragmatic attitude was acceptable, I succumbed to the irrationality of the reality described by Latin American writers. VANESSA NAHOUL SERIO Mexico DF, Mexico
Of Lebanese origin, Vanessa Nahoul Serio is a Mexican-born artist who seeks to convey the expressiveness of the human being through her drawings and paintings. She has always been amazed by the different means the human body has to express; its deepest identity through movement, gestures, gaze, microexpressions and those somatic signs that conceal previous experiences and the narrative of one´s life and personality. Visual art allows Vanessa to tell her own story and transform it within and from darkest places of the human soul and may alleviate the burden of having to live knowing death will eventually come. Art may be a powerful instrument as it may bring about positive change both individually and socially. Vanessa Nahoul Serio was awarded in August, 2015 in the city of Oaxaca, Mexico the national recognition “Pergamino de Oro al Mérito Andrés Henestrosa”, for her cultural and artistic career and for “registering in her work the expressiveness of the human soul”. She has a 24 year experience in drawing and painting, since she started her academic studies in art, composition, drawing and art materials, in Mexico City. Over the years she has produced several drawing and painting series in oil, pastel, acrylic and mixed media.

Thus, sadness anxiety and fear come up automatically and humanely, when an innocent child is standing there before us wretchedly. At this point, I am trying to confront the viewer with feelings from the past that leave in the dark because we can not bring to light.” - S. S. A.

“Gedeon Tatti is a Belgian artist, whose experience began a long time ago. Inspired by abstract expressionism he became able to interpret the voyeuristic approach, on the basis that splashes of colors correspond to the vision of the surrounding space. Tatti’s technique resembles Pollock’s style, working constraints. Tatti’s movement and liberating gesture become turbulent, The result is a casting of paint and other materials, a congestion of layers corresponding to contrasting moods.” - Maria Assunta Fodde.
