“There is much beauty to behold in this world, moments that the eye captures, the wonders it sees... moments that should be committed to perpetual memory, but sadly only to become fragments of a faded recollection, or more often, simply forgotten. I draw inspiration to record these timeless and special moments, to capture them in my mind’s eye, and through my lens, transforming each image so that I can share them with others in hope they too may see what I see and find equal enjoyment.” Nicholas Teetelli is a member of American Photographic Artists, American Photography Association, International Leica Society, Professional Photographers of America and The Royal Photographic Society WWW.TEETELLI.COM NICHOLAS@TEETELLI.COM ▶

INTRODUCTION
“It is with great pride that we introduce the 3rd volume of the series of books: Current Masters. Like our other titles, Current Masters are anthologies of work of noteworthy artists from all over the world. It will feature all media of the plastic fine arts that can be depicted on the printed page. In this volume, we have selected 46 artists whose art we believe is interesting and representative as to what happens in art today. Current Masters has the same distribution, primarily to collectors and art professionals, and it is a valuable resource for all art lovers. Like all our other books, it will be available both in print and also online. The book series ‘Current Masters’ serves as a visual montage of influential fine art in today’s world, as it exists across the globe. Art is not bound by one medium or movement and is pursued regardless of power or profit. In this spirit, this book is inclusive of both classic and contemporary art forms, united for the unique purpose of reflecting this moment in art.” “Art provides an elegant voice that influences major issues across the world. It not only reveals the identity of a culture but functions within the culture as the utmost medium in raising awareness over major issues and new ideas circulating that community. Many artists today express and represent an influence on social, cultural, political and environmental themes from the personal to the political, the private to the public and the national to the global. We are providing dedicated spaces inside the show hall, where visitors will have the chance to walk through and visually explore these topics.” We trust that you, our readers, will derive as much pleasure from viewing the works in this book as we had collecting them and putting them together.”

ZOHAR WALLACH Canada
Born in 1965, Israeli-Canadian artist, Zohar Wallach’s artistic passion started at a young age when she would spend hours playing at her mom’s sculpture studio, experimenting with organic components and painting on anything she could find. Zohar holds a Bachelor’s of Communication and Art and worked several years as a Human Resources Handwriting Analysis Specialist. She became a full-time artist after moving with her family to Canada in 1998. Her interest in natural mechanisms and organic elements has been reflected in her work throughout the years, as she slowly shifted her style into abstraction. Zohar developed her unique technique of applying thick layers of fermented pigments, emulsion, and sand onto the canvas, letting natural chemistry determine the course of the image. Her intuitive approach incorporates dynamic sequences into the most trivial elements, as Zohar allows spontaneous alchemy to unfold and follows natural elements that start to form within the layers. Her process is highly intensive and each work takes several weeks to complete as the different layers slowly dry out and become a new denotation. She demonstrates a keen sensitivity to those basics, turning subtle variations in texture and tone into images with a powerful physicality and an otherworldly sense of mystery. Her skill at handling color combined with her strong compositions, result in works that vividly project a sense of space, depth, and movement. The visual world she creates is engaged in a process of slow transformation and change, presenting to the viewer reflections on natural forces that shape different structures found in nature. Zohar has had over 30 solo and group exhibitions in Canada, the USA, and Italy, among them at the Nevada Museum of Fine Arts in Las Vegas, Museum of Art, Geoje, South Korea, and The Museum of Art and Design, New York. Zohar has won numerous international awards over the years, and her works are being sought after by corporate, public and private collections worldwide.

“The person I am today reflects my experiences of the places I have traveled and the people I have met along the way. I was a traveler long before I was a painter. Discovering the world has been a lifelong personal journey of self-discovery. Recording what I see, has given me an increased empathy and connection to the world. When I first started painting, I painted dark, mostly in black and white, and based mainly on difficult and challenging personal experiences. At a certain point, I realized I could no longer paint in black and white, I needed color. It was as if I had worked through the obstacles, and could now experience the joys of life on my own terms, to do more of what I like. My passion is painting places I am traveling to, people that I meet and stories that I hear. Painting helps me search deeply and intensely for expression and connection with my subject even in the darkest of circumstances. Looking into the eyes of others has served as my own reflection and helped me realize that we all share one world with similar dreams and aspirations. Interacting with strangers is one of the greatest gifts travel has given me. Traveling and welcoming the unknown has changed my life for the better.”

“My works are abstract, limited edition, digital giclée prints on fine art paper. Their creation combines aspects of traditional painting and sculpting along with the sensibilities of the potter and the printmaker. Two forces, however, both inherent in the digital medium, are at the true heart of the process. A divergent force derives from the medium’s plasticity. A convergent force stems from the fact that a series of images possess an inherent trajectory determined by its form and palette. This trajectory constrains the image’s evolution but also reveals new creative possibilities. Consequently, multiple paths of relationship emerge between the art and the observer. These direct the observer, not toward a single meaning, but toward an interactive flow, a language, of aesthetic, symbolic, and conceptual relations. In my other life, I am a theoretical psychologist. It is a very analytical, left-hemisphere process—each paper taking weeks, or months, to develop. Without consciously making it so, I have realized that I do just the opposite in my artwork. I called my first show “Primary Processes” because creating a work of art is a very primal, unconscious process. It is never goal-oriented, other than the constant, over-arching effort to create something beautiful. Sometimes I am successful.”

MANDY DARGIN Australia
◀
Spring Calendula
‘Spring Calendula’ (27.95” x 14.17”) was painted by the Artist in 2015. Painted with the inspiration of a real calendula, this is really an impressionist work. The important thing here is the sunlight shining directly on the face of the flower, revealing the contrasting vivid colors and shapes of the petals and the feeling of depth.
Australian Artist and Writer, Mandy Dargin has enjoyed art since childhood. Her parents encouraged her to draw and paint still lifes, portraits, and landscapes, which assisted her in gaining foundational artistic skills. She explored different mediums, including pencil, acrylics, and oils. Family holidays provided her with opportunities to depict a variety of landscapes. Increasingly she has worked with color, discovering its potential to create dynamic effects. She is a recipient of several juried awards and has exhibited her work online and in books.
▼ Farmer This original portrait sketch (12.4” x 9.25”) was completed in Graphite Pencil On Paper by Mandy Dargin in 2016, with permission from a photo taken by Jodie Pearson. The substance of the sketch is executed with such refinement and sensitivity as to create an authentic and meaningful depiction of the subject.
▲ Shirley Schaefer
‘Shirley Schaefer,’ (17” x 16”) was completed in Acrylic on Marine ply, by Mandy Dargin in 2017. Here we see this artist’s typical approach of combining realism with mood. On a subdued background, the effervescence of the subject is shown in luminous tones, making a striking statement about the subject’s character.

Mandy Dargin is inspired by the artistic approaches of Realist and Impressionist painters. She prefers to draw and paint everyday subjects which are before her in order to convey a sense of the moment in her artistic rendering. Typically her artwork contains an aesthetically pleasing interpretation with vivid hues which accentuate the character of the subject. Her still lifes possess brilliant simplicity and a sense of serenity.
▲ Still Life With Onions
▲ Old Friend
‘Still Life With Onions’ was painted by the Artist in 2016. This painting was done directly from the subjects shown. The subjects, onions, draw attention through rich and vivid colors. Though simple there is a unique sophistication in the lines and forms which recommend them as a subject and give them enduring appeal.
‘Old Friend,’ (14” x 18”) is a commissioned piece which was painted by Mandy Dargin in 2016, and which was subsequently sold. Here realism is combined with mood in a way that typifies the Artist’s style. The unique character of the subject is emphasized by a delicate interplay of tones and a series of soft transitions in the background.

Mandarins On A Plate ‘Mandarins On A Plate,’ (12” x 9”) was recognized as having artistic merit in the juried Richeson75 Small Works Competition of 2016 and was published in the same year in their full-color, hard-cover collectible exhibit book. This work was painted directly from the subject in Acrylic by Mandy Dargin in 2015, and features in her ‘Still Life Collection.’ The sense of simplicity and serenity that many of her still lifes possess is evident here.

Born and raised in Bermuda, Tika moved to London where she currently resides, in 2008 after a career change from Interior Design to study Architecture. She began constructing architectural models in plaster and concrete and using charcoal drawings to represent her ideas in detail. Her influences and inspiration is a juxtaposition between abstract expressionism and architectural craftsmanship. Her vocabulary of media remains within plaster, charcoal with an introduction of iron filler as a color. The plaster is used as the primary medium to underpin the structure of texture and gives her the freedom to build in three dimensions and focus on delicate details as necessary. Using the entire canvas to tell a story, the details aim to explore a subjective narrative, whilst creating a tangible embodiment of vitality. In doing this she hopes to communicate with the basic human emotion and ideas. Moreover, she has exhibited in group exhibitions and her art was selected from the first round of the Royal Academy, Summer Exhibition 2017 in London.

“I was hooked on the French Impressionist and Post Impressionist painters by the age of fifteen. My studies began by copying and studying the techniques of Monet, Van Gogh, Cezanne, and Gaugin; these artists are still my greatest influences today. My oil and chalk pastels are done in nature and then I use my favorites as templates for the acrylic paintings. With my oceanscapes, I try to recreate the peaceful feeling of watching and listening to the waves in constant motion. If I am lucky the clouds are fluffy with animal shapes. When I begin a sunset I never know what my final result will be. I have to work fast because the light changes rapidly and so does the magnificent colors in the sky. Mountainscapes present the same challenges with light changing rapidly. As the light changes so do the shapes and colors on the mountains; I think this must be where the Indians found patterns for their tribal art.”

After two years of studying Fine Art at the Ruhr Academie Schwerte, he continued refining his skill by focusing on a wide range of commissioned portraits. By the end of 2014 and after deliberately limiting himself to the craft of drawing, he began exploring the world of painting in oil. Since then he merely concentrates on his own projects which are mostly landscapes, dark forests, and portraits, done in his signature style; a monochrome form of classical realism.

“It is the spiritual and intellectual qualities that I am aiming at with colors, lines, shapes, forms and movements. For example, about the Amazon River, a line such as, “This river, a wound on the earth, carved by serpents as they passed,“ has more apprehensive power over me than the seven thousand words or more in the Wikipedia reporting the facts of the river. In writing, words, their choice, combination and order, give the power and conviction to the reader. In the same way, the aim of my lines, colors, planes, forms, shapes and movements, is to achieve such a magical conveyance to the viewer.” https://www.artmo.com/user/kratz • kratz@aiwenwukratzartstudio.com [70] • CURRENT MASTERS

“Polyphonic Visual Space” The presented work displays some examples of “Polyphonic Visual Space” I’m working with. The basic question here is: How is it possible to grasp experience about a simultaneously perceived environment in its many layers, integrating perceptions over time to reflect changes in the environment? I consider how something like a form or forms changes from various viewpoints, and motion and/or when they are placed from one reference system into another. In my works, I look for the resulting visual interactions connected to change itself. I attempt to visualize forms altogether from different viewpoints in picture plane and in space. It means vision in motion and multiview-points of space vision. What happens with forms in picture plane when they move for instance from a Euclidian reference system to a Spherical reference system? Their visual outcome will be completely different. This notion is valid for forms, spaces, and ideas when their respective reference systems change as well. It means that truths and facts change along with the motions, positions and by reference systems. www.andrasmengyan.com • amengyan@t-online.hu [74] • CURRENT MASTERS

“Early life was filled with music since I came from a musically inclined family. Barely into my 20s, I turned to painting and knew that would be my life’s creative endeavor. My first classes were at the McNay Art Institute in San Antonio, Texas, followed by classes with other private instructors to learn specific skills. Eventually, I attended the University of Houston to finish my Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Painting. Still lifes, landscapes, arroyos, wetlands, contemporary interpretation of fruit, flowers, and the occasional namesake swan have all been subjects through the years motivated by musical energy and color. When painting, it is important for the objects to be close at hand to be able to explore the lines and variations of color and shape. If one visits my space it is realized that the bunches of not only living flowers or fruit but vases of dried ones have a purpose. My intent is to capture the beauty of nature during the entire life process.”

“After 35 years of working in the private sector and having signed for many successful projects as an Architect, I have felt that I needed a hobby with my busy and intensive schedule. My journey in the fine arts started with the art of marbling and continued with the art of cutting paper. I realized how calming it was to work with all these beautiful colors on water, and how all my daily life anxieties and thoughts could go away. Basically, I was resting my soul. It was a challenge for a long time to be able to create the perfect figures trying maybe a thousand times just to be able to produce the right one and this process had an impeccable influence on my patience and its boundaries. Thereby I started learning the love of art and its true nature. The courses I have taken and the experiences I have had during the years of studying and working as an architect have had an immense effect on how I think, act, feel and work differently from any other artist. These experiences make every single work of art authentic, original and unique.”

Nicholas Teetelli is both a published and international award-winning fine art photographer. He was born in New York City and grew up in lower Manhattan’s Greenwich Village. During the late 1960s, and into the 1970s, the Village was a hotbed of culture and the arts. During this period, Teetelli was introduced to art and photography, developing an interest in what would become his lifelong passion. While he took some photography courses in college, Nicholas Teetelli is primarily self-taught. Spanning the last four decades, he has learned, developed, and honed his skills independently, becoming an avid and serious amateur photographer who has recently turned professional. Although he lived and grew up in New York City, he has spent many summers in the Greek islands and has traveled to many other places in the world. He continues to travel extensively in pursuit of the perfect photographic image. During each journey, with camera in hand, he records much of what he sees, sharing the impression of his mind’s eye through composition, light play, and shape and design. His photographic portfolio is diverse: it includes landscape, architecture, portrait, flora and fauna, underwater, and street photography. He has recently brought his portfolio to the public eye and, in short order, has had dozens of his photographs juried and invited into exhibition at many galleries and museums through the United States, receiving many awards for this work along the way. He has won awards in international competitions in Moscow, London and Tokyo, a featured artist at major art shows at Art San Diego, Spectrum Miami, Artexpo New York, has private gallery placements in Vienna, Austria and Bologna, Italy, as well as being a featured gallery fine art photographer on Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines. It is a reflection of the external world, but it is not visible or literal, which makes it mysterious and engaging. The internal world is affected by the external world to some extent.
