MELBOURNE Cruise Arrivals Guide Discover the city and beyond
Welcome to Melbourne, Victoria Hugging the base of the Australian east coast, Victoria is Australia’s secondsmallest state, covering 227,600 square kilometres – roughly the size of the British Isles. Packed into such a compact area is a wealth of diverse landscapes, from national parks teeming with wildlife to wineries, lakes and mountains. Best of all, many of Victoria’s unique and varied attractions are easily accessible as day trips from Melbourne. Victoria’s capital, Melbourne is located around the shores of Port Phillip Bay. Today a city of nearly 4 million people, Melbourne was established on the banks of the Yarra River in 1835. Renowned for its sense of style and elegance, Melbourne boasts world class festivals and events, Australia’s best shopping; a lively passion for eating and drinking, and a flourishing passion for the arts. With a huge variety of landscapes, a welcoming capital city, and a decidedly mild climate, Victoria can’t fail to impress... in fact you’ll love every piece of it! Image: John Gollings

Parks & Gardens Melbourne’s gorgeous helping of spring, summer, autumn and winter make it a gardener’s joy. So it’s no surprise to see so much space in and around the city centre dedicated to some of the most beautiful and innovative parks and gardens in the land. The incredible variety of native and imported specimens is as fascinating as it is beautiful. Historic buildings nestle among the trees, belying the fact that a bustling metropolis is only a block away. Here you can escape the hustle and bustle without having to leave the city at all. Birrarung Marr This is Melbourne remember, so the grace of the bygone era is wonderfully complemented by the contemporary. The latest editions to Melbourne’s garden landscape are Birrarung Marr - a large, open public space adjacent to the Yarra, distinctive for its native planting’s and linear design - and the water sensitive public spaces of the Docklands district - which have the added bonus of being filled with incredible works of urban art.
