From Tuesday to Friday each week, visitors can join Indigenous guides for a walk through the Royal Botanic Gardens to discover the traditional uses for plants.

The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia This gallery in Federation Square focuses solely on Australian art. The Aboriginal collection is particularly strong, with both artefacts and works by major indigenous artists on permanent display.

Enjoy a free, two to four-hour walking orientation of the city, conducted by a trained volunteer. Orientations in English depart the Melbourne Visitor Centre at Federation Square daily. Transport in Melbourne The easiest way to get to the city centre from Station Pier is by bus or tram, using a myki card. myki is your ticket to travel on Melbourne’s public transport network.

Bus Route 109 – City Express An express shuttle bus operates as a return service from Station Pier to Arts Centre Melbourne on St Kilda Road, every cruise ship day, from 8am to 5pm. Follow these easy steps for an express bus ride into Melbourne.

1. Buy a myki Visitor Value Pack from the pop-up PTV hub located in the upper level foyer of the international terminal. 2. Board the Route 109 express bus at the end of the pier. 3. Touch on your myki at one of the myki readers on board the bus to ensure you have a valid ticket. Tram Route 109

Melbourne City Sightseeing

The red hop on/hop off double decker bus will pick you up from the end of Station Pier and take you around some of Melbourne and St Kilda’s most recognised sights. You must pre-purchase your ticket to board the bus. w melbournecitysightseeing.com.au

The Route 109 tram departs from stop 129 – Beacon Cove/Light Rail, at the end of Station Pier. It travels through Port Melbourne, past the Crown Entertainment Complex, and crosses the Yarra River before turning right into Collins Street in the heart of the city. To board the tram, you can buy a myki Visitor Value Pack from the pop-up PTV Hub at Station Pier. Be sure to touch on your myki at one of the myki readers on board to ensure you have a valid ticket.

Free Trams

Travel on trams across parts of Melbourne’s CBD and Docklands is free, in the Free Tram Zone. You can also take the City Circle tram (Route 35), an iconic W-Class tram that travels past major attractions and shops. See the City Map in this guide for route details.

Returning to Station Pier

Board the Route 109 bus which departs from Arts Centre Melbourne and travels express to Station Pier. Alternatively, you can board any west-bound Route 109 tram to Port Melbourne at any tram stop along Collins Street in the CBD. myki reader

Stroll past the sculptured bollards dotted along the foreshore that chronicle characters from the city’s past and present. Geelong is also the major gateway to the Bellarine Peninsula and Great Ocean Road.

1½–2 hours from Melbourne Phillip Island is famed for seeing Australian wildlife in its natural habitat. It is home to a colony of little penguins that make their way from the sea up Summerland Beach to their burrows every day at dusk. Australia’s largest colony of fur seals, koalas and a large population of mutton birds and migratory water birds also live on the island. Ideally your ship will be staying overnight or depart late at night to allow you to witness the penguin parade at dusk.

The Mornington Peninsula is dotted with historic seaside villages. Visit stylish Sorrento, take a stroll along the picturesque harbor of Mornington and stop at the charming nineteenth century fishing hamlet of Flinders. A trip to nearby Cape Schanck will provide superb views of Bass Strait.
