dam Gosney is a 26 year old professional bartender who left New Zealand to take part in the vibrant Melbourne hospitality industry. Ferdydurke was the first bar he entered when he arrived in the middle of the night – all his bags in tow, and it was clearly meant to be as he now works at this popular watering hole. Tell us about Ferdydurke... It’s a special bar for me because it is eclectic, playful and stimulating in style, music, drinks and the people you find there. My theory is that some of that comes from the polish novel which is Ferdy's namesake, Ferdydurke by Witold Gombrowicz, the surrealist 1937 story of a man cast back into youth and immaturity. On any given day at Ferdy you can expect to find something fun and interesting. From our well stocked back bar and gourmet hot dogs, to visual artists, hip-hop beat makers, Latin dance music, live jazz, costume parties, face painting and sometimes Nintendo being played on cinema size projections across the laneways. It's a radical, modern and fun take on the more traditional cocktail bar. Adam’s tips for summer... drink: If I'm not drinking ales or gin and tonics in the sun, it's all about rum and citrus. Daiquiri's, Mai Tai's, Zombies, etc. Restaurant: Late night Asian at New Kum Den.

Ferdydurke

cafÉ: Right now it's Black Cat in Fitzroy. Good coffee, beers and the music is always great.

Stay Fire Safe This Summer Summer is the perfect time to experience regional Victoria. Relax and enjoy Victoria’s breathtaking scenery and diverse natural wonderlands knowing you’ve taken a few simple steps to stay bushfire safe. Before you leave • Check fire warnings and Fire Danger Ratings for the area you are visiting. • Download the FireReady app. • S ave the Victorian Bushfire Information Line (1800 240 667) to your mobile phone. • P ack a few essential items in your car such as woollen blankets, drinking water, sturdy shoes and long-sleeved tops and pants made from natural fibres. These items will help you if you are caught in a fire. While you are away • On hot, dry, windy days, check Fire Danger Ratings and warnings. Fires can start and spread quickly on these days and parks and forests may be closed. • C heck if a Total Fire Ban has been declared for the area you are visiting. • L isten to local radio for advice and warnings while you’re on the road. • N ever travel into a high risk bushfire area where a Code Red Fire Danger Rating has been declared or where fires are burning.

Stay Informed Visit cfa.vic.gov.au, call 1800 240 667, check the FireReady app, listen to local radio, talk to your host or visit an accredited Visitor Information Centre. And remember; always check more than one source of information.

What are Fire Danger Ratings & Total Fire Bans? Fire Danger Ratings tell you how dangerous a fire would be if one started. A Total Fire Ban sets legal restrictions on activities that may start a fire, including restrictions on barbecues and campfires.
