LOS CABOS 101

LOS CABOS & South Baja

Los Cabos (the capes) is located in the southernmost tip of the State of Baja California Sur and consists of four main areas: Cabo San Lucas, San José del Cabo, Todos Santos and the East Cape. In between you will find smaller towns and points of interest such as Santiago and Miraflores, located inland at the skirts of the Sierra de la Laguna, or Migriño and Pescadero which are located on the Pacific side, in between Cabo San Lucas and Todos Santos THE AQUARIUM OF THE WORLD. These are the words that Jacques Cousteau used to describe the Sea of Cortez. It is said that eons ago, back when the Earth and Continents were still taking their shape, the edge of Mexico split from the mainland to form the Gulf of California and the Baja Peninsula. This allowed the Pacific Ocean to rush into the gap and create the Sea of Cortez, or as some call it, Mother Nature’s own fish trap. Hundreds of varieties of fish and mammals found their way into this “trap” and either stayed in its warm shallow waters or ventured down into the cool bottom of the two mile-deep San Andreas Fault. For millenniums, the Colorado River has been dragging its rich minerals and nutrients into the Sea of Cortez, aiding the living species to thrive in these waters. In the months of January through March, Gray whales make their yearly migration from Alaska to give birth to their young in the shallow and warm waters of the Sea of Cortez.

THE BAJA SUR LOOP Take a look at the Baja Sur map below; you can see that the highways and towns form a loop. Ongoing road improvements and new highway constructions are making road trips quicker and easier every year. The new highway from Cabo San Lucas to Todos Santos is impressively well done, making it only a 45 minute drive. Cabo San Lucas Also just known as “Cabo,” is a tourist friendly town located on the tip of the Baja California peninsula that’s full of entertainment for every age and liking. The Sea of Cortez and the Pacific Ocean meet at Land’s End, where you can observe the beautiful rock formations and the famous Cabo arch. Cabo San Lucas has the liveliest beach in the Los Cabos area, an impressive marina and countless restaurants and bars that keep the town alive day and night. The Corridor The corridor is the 40 km highway that connects Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo (about a 25 minute drive). Along this road you can find various hotels, luxury ocean front homes, championship golf courses and beautiful views. Have your camera ready and make a roadside stop at the Costa Azul view-point for photo opportunities or at the Cabo Real arroyo for a refreshing coco frío (cold coconut). San José del Cabo Walking around downtown San José will allow you to experience a traditional Mexican town. You will find yourself surrounded by colorful buildings and quaint cobblestone streets that lead to the town’s picturesque zócalo (main plaza). Over the years, San José has become an artistic and cultural centre with numerous fine art galleries in its downtown art district. From November through June, the popular Art Walk takes place every Thursday evening where galleries welcome

guests to sip some wine while they view their exhibits; however, the galleries are open year-round. San José del Cabo’s historical downtown also offers world-class restaurants from Mexican gourmet cuisine to authentic Thai food. San José has a beautiful beach where you can take a horseback ride and explore the estuary that is home to many different bird species. East Cape People often call it “the old Cabo” because of its pristine beaches and small fishing towns such as Buena Vista and Los Barriles. The East Cape begins just east of San José and extends about 100 miles up the Sea of Cortez coast. Sixty miles outside of San José is the Cabo Pulmo National Marine Park, an eight fingered coral reef that offers outstanding snorkelling and scuba diving and turtle nesting on the beach. Very popular for fishing and surfing, the East Cape also attracts kite surfers, campers and folks who just want to get away from it all. Todos Santos Located on the Pacific Ocean side of the peninsula, Todos Santos is an oasis where artists and surfers flock to enjoy the culture and excellent surf. Home to the famous Hotel California, this charming town offers great restaurants and a cooler climate than Cabo San Lucas and San José due to the Pacific’s breezes. La Paz La Paz is the capital of the state of Baja California Sur and is known for its warm people and beautiful beaches. This authentic Mexican city (as well as the general south Baja region) has been rated as one of the safest in Mexico and still maintains the small town feel that is very welcoming for tourists. La Paz is a departure point for tours and charters to the stunning Espiritu Santo Island as well as whale watching excursions. Stroll down the colorful malecón (boardwalk), walk hundreds of feet in waist high water at Balandra beach or have a fine dining experience; La Paz has a lot to offer. *

LOS CABOS 101

USEFUL INFORMATION Exchange rates - Dollars are accepted almost everywhere and you will get your change in pesos. The exchange rate varies every day, but some places have a set rate.

Cash or Card? - Visa, Mastercard and American Express credit cards are generally accepted, but you often run into cash only places. Always ask beforehand and carry cash. Your bank will most likely charge you international transaction fees if you pay with your card.

ATMs - The easiest way to get pesos is to simply withdraw money from an ATM in Los Cabos. Bank ATMs give the daily exchange rate (best possible rate) with reasonable fees. Examples include Banorte, Bancomer, Santander, Banamex, and HSBC. Non-bank ATMs located in the street will charge higher fees. Some ATMs only give you dollars, some only pesos and some give you the option to withdraw both. Pay close attention to what currency you’re withdrawing and try to get as much cash as possible in one transaction to avoid paying high fees. Buying groceries - In Cabo San Lucas, Wal-Mart and Costco are good options and easy to get to. You can always find a taxi outside of these stores. San José has a Wal-Mart and Mega. If you just need to grab something quickly, OXXO stores are small, reasonably priced convenient stores located all over town.

Driving - Renting a car will allow you to enjoy the freedom of exploring Los Cabos. Driving in Mexico might be intimidating, but if you just go with the muddled flow, you will realize that there is some organization within the chaos. If you are pulled over by local police for committing a driving infraction, the standard procedure is for them to take your Driver’s License. You will then have to go to the Police Station to pay your ticket and pick-up your license. There are two types of gasoline: Magna, which is regular, and Premium. Lleno (pronounced ye-no) means full. Major credit cards are accepted. Tipping the gas station attendant around $10.00 pesos is customary. ALTO STOP

FISHING REPORT All that’s fishy from Lands End to La Paz by Gary Graham

Seasonal Fishing Chart:

BOATING & FISHING

With calm waters, extraordinary fishing and perfect weather, some may argue that boating is the most popular attraction in Los Cabos. Whether you want to take a cruise to Santa María Bay on a luxury yacht or wake up at the crack of dawn for a fishing adventure, there are endless options to fit your needs. BOAT RENTALS Private yachts and sailboats There are several charter companies that can accommodate your needs. What you do on your trip is really up to you, but it will typically consist of a tour of the landmark arch, a few hours of fishing, and a cruise to one of our beautiful bays for a swim. Most boats have fishing equipment and a knowledgeable crew, but the biggest difference between a yacht and a fishing boat rental is the cost. Fishing Boat Rentals You can always fish on a yacht, but cruisers and pangas and super-pangas are a more affordable option. Cruisers accommodate larger groups and are more comfortable when the sea is rough on a windy day. THE MARINAS Marina Cabo San Lucas, the area’s largest commercial marina, features 380 slips and accommodates vessels of up to 375 feet. Amenities include 24-hour security, electricity and potable water, a fuel dock, and convenient laundry and shower facilities. Puerto Los Cabos, located in La Playita, just north of San José del Cabo is the newest marina 8

Sport fishing flags commonly seen in Los Cabos:

in the area with 200 available slips for boats up to 400 feet. Amenities are similar to Marina Cabo San Lucas, though the boatyard’s 150-ton travel lift can accommodate larger vessels. FISHING There’s a reason why the world’s richest fishing tournament - the Bisbee’s Black & Blue - has taken place in Los Cabos for over thirty years. This part of the world offers abundant sea life and an exceptionally high catch success rate, no matter what your level of fishing experience is. What to Expect Most charters include a fishing li-

cense, bait, tackle and equipment. Some also include food and drink or these amenities can be added at an additional cost. It is better to leave early, and trips usually begin at 6:00 and 7:00 am and last around 6 hours. Cost will depend on the number of people in your party and the size of the boat you choose to rent. It is customary to leave the crew a gratuity of 15% to 20%. Bait and Tackle Most likely, the boat you charter will include your bait and tackle. If you need your own fresh bait, you may buy it along the Cabo San Lucas Marina or the crew you hire may also stop to buy it from the local fishermen on your way out.

Where are the striped marlin? For the past three months that question has ricocheted through the Marina at Cabo San Lucas. Although there have been some good days for a few boats, it hasn't been the "barn burner bite" that is considered normal during the first quarter of the year. The sea temps have been 72 to 74 degrees in most areas with a warmer band of 76 degrees south of Cape Rocks, which seems to dispel the too high or too low theories. The lack of forage fish could be the culprit except that when the billfish are spotted they ignore the many baits offered, behaving like they are full. Regardless, the bite has recently picked up, leaving most Captains and crews optimistically predicting a late bite in April as weather transitions from winter to spring. Meanwhile, the colorful and good-eating dorado have taken center stage as the fish of the month with limits being caught on many days, delighting vacationing visitors. An oddity in this topsy-turvy season is the wahoo, usually an incidental catch this time of year. Although not wide open there have been some interesting reports; some boats were returning with one or two, but remarkably one lucky/skillful crew put their anglers on a bonanza bite that produced 17 … now that's a day to remember! Yellowfin tuna catches have been sporadic and farther offshore as more forage fish filter into the area. Both the porpoise and tuna are beginning to show in larger numbers just in time for Spring Break! While the other species have been slow settling in, the inshore action has been a great alternative. On the Pacific side, sierra have been consistent biters on the surface. Closer in, near the rocky shore-line, red snapper, cubera snapper and barred pargo are hanging out in the rocks. Getting the bite is the easy part; hauling them to the surface before they cut the line off in the rocks is the tough part. *

Mitch Pierson cracked the code, hauling this one to the surface before it got away.

SNORKELLING & SCUBA DIVING

Prepare yourself for an incredible show of nature as you swim side by side with colourful schools of fish, eels, rays, octopus, sea turtles and more. The Sea of Cortez or the “Aquarium of the World” offers many opportunities to experience incredible underwater wildlife.

SCUBA DIVING DESTINATIONS Note: travel time is from the Cabo San Lucas marina. Land’s End Intermediate-Advanced - 50’-60’ Five minutes by boat and you can share the water with sea lions and moray eels, with a sunken boat visible in the Falls. Sand Falls Beginners - Advanced - 30’-100’ Steep sand banks drop sharply into a canyon filled with tropical fish. The canyon runs from the depths of the Cabo San Lucas bay to within 30 feet of the beach. Pelican Rock Beginners - 25’-80’ This large rock attracts many tropical fish and is only five minutes from shore. Neptune’s Finger Advanced - 80’-100’ A spectacular canyon wall dive. Cabeza de Ballena Beginners - 20’-40’ A 25-minute boat ride leads to a dive through large boulders with many fish. Santa María Cave Beginners - 20’-40’ Reachable from the shore or a 35-minute boat ride, the entrance to Santa Maria canyon has a huge variety of fish which feed right from your hand. Chileno Beginners - 30’-70’ This location offers parking, sea turtle sightings, tropical fish, and night dives over a sandy and rocky bottom following a 35-minute boat ride. El Gavilán Intermediate/Advanced - 70’-100’ This rocky ledge leads into a canyon where groupers and larger fish are often sighted; 35 minutes by boat. Blow Hole Beginners/Advanced - 30’-70’ 35-minutes from San Lucas, or just 10 minutes from Chileno beach, this dive

offers rocky valleys presenting a variety of fish. Las Salinas Beginners - 30’-45’ - A sunken Japanese fishing boat attracts a large assortment of fish at this beginners’ dive; about 80 minutes from Cabo San Lucas or one hour from La Playita. Gordo Banks Advanced - 110’-120’ - A seamount provides views of marlin, hammerheads, skip jacks and at times huge manta rays; one hour from La Playita. Cabo Pulmo Beginner-Advanced - 30’-100’ A one hour drive east of San José or five minutes by boat and you’ll find the only living coral reef in the Sea of Cortez. SNORKELLING SPOTS Cabo offers several methods for snorkelling. You may drive to a local beach and swim out, book a tour with one of the many popular companies, or charter a private boat. Tours are typically two or three hours. Stay away from the Pacific side of the peninsula; its strong currents make it very dangerous for any kind of water sports. Pelican Rock

A quick five-minute ride from the Cabo San Lucas marina or Medano Beach is all it takes to get to this fish-attracting rock.

Lover’s Beach This popular and uniquely-named beach is accessible only by boat. Be on the look-out, however, as the water is not roped off for swimmers. Santa Maria Bay Snorkel tours regularly visit Santa Maria Bay. If you choose to drive there, it’s an easy swim from the shore to the reef on the right side of the cove. Chileno Bay Snorkelers will find a safe, roped-off area for swimming at this common tour destination. Cabo Pulmo A Natural Marine Reserve in the East Cape, and may offer the best snorkelling in the area. This eightfingered coral reef is about a 2-hour drive from San José del Cabo, but it is well worth it!

March through May This is the windy season. Swells are consistent and you’ll run into fewer crowds.

FLYBOARDING

Have you ever had a dream about flying like Superman or maybe swimming like a dolphin? Dreams can come true in Cabo! The FlyBoard is a device connected and powered by a personal watercraft, which allows propulsion underwater and in the air. Users are connected to the board by wakeboard boots, under which, water pressure provides thrust. A certified trainer controls the power and height and you control all the movement. Available at Medano beach or in the Puerto Los Cabos Marina in San José del Cabo.

KITE SURFING

This sport is most popular in the East Cape due to the El Norte winds. Playa Norte (the north-east side of the beach) in Los Barriles is said to be the most popular destination and is also the location for a professional kite-boarding school. La Ventana is also a popular spot and is closer to La Paz. There is less wind in Los Barriles than La Ventana, but the surf is bigger. The best months are January, February, March, October, November, December.

STAND UP PADDLING

There is something special about paddling out and finding yourself floating in the ocean with just a paddle and a board. Stand up paddling is a great way to see marine life and to get a great workout and while enjoying nature. At Medano beach you can rent boards in several locations. Certain companies offer paddling lessons and some have yoga classes on the board. Tips! • Your feet should be parallel, about hip-width distance apart, centred between the board rails (edges). • Keep toes pointed forward, knees bent and your back straight. Balance with your hips and core. Keep your arms straight and twist from your torso as you paddle, you have more strength in the abdominal muscles than in your arms. Your gaze should be level at the horizon and avoid staring at your feet. • If you’re paddling on the right, your right hand is lower and on the paddle shaft. Your top left hand is on the top of the grip. The elbow (angle) of the paddle faces away from you. • Plant the paddle by pushing the blade all the way under the surface, pull it back to your ankle, then out of the water. To go in a reasonably straight line, paddle about 4 or 5 strokes on one side, then switch to the other. When you switch sides, you’ll reverse hand positions. • When you fall aim yourself to the side so you don’t fall the board.

SKATEBOARDING

Visit the Pescadero Skate Park located on km. 64 of HWY 19, in the town of El Pescadero. The park is surrounded by lush gardens, and the cost to enter this pro-park is $2.00 USD.

ACTIVITIES FOR FAMILIES

Los Cabos is an ideal destination for families with children of all ages. Ask your concierge to help you book any of these activities.

Blown Glass Factory Don’t miss this factory located in Cabo San Lucas where youngsters can watch the highly-skilled artisans perform the art of glass-blowing. Adults can shop for that one (or probably more than one) perfect piece to take home. Make sure you visit the factory before 2:00 pm in order to catch the show. Adventure Parks There are several adventure parks and eco-adventure companies in Los Cabos where you and your kids can experience zip-lining, back-country ATV tours, a camel safari, and more. Zip-lines are appropriate for kids of 8 years and up and be prepared to hike from 5 to 15 minutes from line to line. Most companies include transportation. Ask your concierge to set-up your adventure. Swim with Dolphins Los Cabos has a few facilities where you and your kids can swim with trained dolphins. By visiting one of the dolphin centres you and your kids will experience a one-on-one connection that will be memorable. You will learn special hand signals and ways to communicate positive reinforcement to the dolphins. Wet Fun Water Park Located about 20 minutes from San José, this water park has shallow pools and small slides for young children, water mushrooms, a pirate ship and a giant bucket that dumps water on the bystanders bellow. For the adrenaline seekers, several fast and large slides stand tall and mighty and offer a great view of the beautiful surrounding mountains. To get there

take HWY 1 north from the San José International Airport towards La Paz and East Cape. After about 15 miles, the exit for Caudaño and the water park will be at km 66. Follow this road for a few minutes and you will find the park on your right. Turtle Release Every year, several species of endangered sea turtles nest in the warm sands of Los Cabos. Your family will have the opportunity to help these fragile and tiny creatures make it safely into the sea. Children will learn about the importance of conservation and they will surely enjoy the experience of helping these little friends. Whale Watching Whale watching in Los Cabos is an unforgettable experience for any age. During the months of December through March, it is not hard to find whales breaching just off the shore. Book a private charter or take one of the many whale watching tours available.

ADVENTURE

Los Cabos offers a number of entertainment options for adventure seekers. From guided bicycle tours to a sunset horseback ride on the beach or a highspeed zipline across one of the many local canyons, pick an adventure that is right for you and get out there! Buggy, Atv, Or Bike Rentals There are several local companies which offer ATVs, buggies, and other off-road vehicles for trail and beach cruising. Strap on some goggles and hop behind the wheel of one of these off-road racers for an afternoon of fast-paced fun! Vehicles include typical ATVs or enclosed rail buggies or RZR ATVs. Tours are typically three hours, and drivers must be 16 years of age with a valid drivers’ license. If pedal-powered rides are more your speed, look into renting a mountain bike, beach cruiser, or joining a guided bicycle tour of town. Just make sure to wear a helmet!

Parasailing, Bungee Jumping, and Ziplines Get ready to shout “Geronimo!” as you leap off a platform in one of the most extreme outings! Several local adventure-parks provide bungee jumping packages and high speed zipline canopy tours are offered in a number of local canyons. If heights over land are not right for you, try a parasailing trip and gain some altitude to enjoy beautiful views of Cabo while tethered firmly to a speedboat!

Horseback Rides, Nature Walks, and Bird Watching Los Cabos (particularly San José del Cabo) offers a number of horseback excursions for all ages. Saddle up for a sunset guided beach ride, venture up a hidden canyon trail, or just sit back in the shade while experienced horse trainers give the kids lessons in horsemanship – there’s something for everyone! San José also boasts a natural estuary and nature preserve. Enjoy a peaceful, self-guided nature walk to observe some of the lushest landscape in the area. Species of flora and fauna are abundant: dozens of species of cactus, lizards, and birds can be spotted on this solitary walk, just a few minutes from downtown. Cactus-lovers may also want to check out the nearby cactus gardens Wirikuta, offering a large variety of cacti laid out in an artful outdoor setting.

Horse-back lessons at Cuadra San Francisco This world class equestrian centre was established in 1994 by Francisco J. Barrena M. and is home to about 50 horses. Each one has been trained by professionals to ensure safety and an enjoyable ride. The riding school’s speciality is high level dressage, which is an excellent way to perfect any riding discipline. The staff can accommodate riders of any age and skill level. Cuadra San Francisco is located at km. 19.5 of the main highway between Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo. www.DestinoMagazine.com | APRIL 2015

LOS CABOS 101

Imagine floating in a turquoise bay with pink sand or riding some epic waves: every Baja beach offers something unique. Here is a list of the must-see beaches -- visit them all to decide which one is your dream beach!

Cabo San Lucas

Along the Corridor

If you’re looking for the action, here it is. El Médano (as the locals call it) is a 2-mile stretch of hotels, restaurants and bars, right on the sand. It’s a swimmable and family-friendly beach with endless options for souvenir shopping. Numerous activities and water sports are available. If you want to take a water taxi to Lover’s Beach, this is the best spot to do it. Its stunning view of Land’s End and the vast entertainment options make this beach a must-see.

LAS VIUDAS

José, follow the sign which reads “Santa María” and exit the highway at Km. 13. Follow the dirt road until you reach the parking area. Santa Maria provides no services and hardly any shade. You can rent umbrellas on the beach, but if you happen to have one, bring it anyway. Snorkelling gear will help you get the most of this beautiful beach!

Location:

San Jose del Cabo

MEDANO BEACH

Las Viudas (The Widows) beach is not visible from the road and is possibly the most private beach you will find on this list. What makes it unique are the rock formations which create small pools and coves where you can have a private and peaceful beach day. This beach is swimmable with caution but if you find your own pool you can avoid the waves. Turn right at Km. 12.5 of the corridor and follow the dirt road down to the beach. There is a sign that reads “Las Viudas” but slow down and keep your eyes peeled; the entrance may sneak up on you. You won’t find any services or vendors so bring all your beach essentials with you.

Tips:

CHILENO

Chileno is a very popular location for snorkelling, swimming or just spending the day under the newly-installed palapas. You’ll find tide pools at the east end of the beach and beautiful reefs offering excellent snorkelling and scuba diving. This is the only beach with public restrooms and it has plenty of palapas for shade. Going from Cabo San Lucas towards San José, follow the signs for Chileno Beach Club near Km. 14 of the main highway. If you visit Chileno on a weekend, make an effort to arrive early; snorkelling visibility is often better in the mornings, you’ll avoid the mid-day snorkel tours and, if you beat the crowds, you’ll be guaranteed a palapa to yourself for much-needed shade. Bring snorkelling gear!

Tips:

PALMILLA

Palmilla beach is known for its family-friendly calm waters and a mile-long stretch of beach. Located within the resort community of Palmilla, you will find yourself surrounded by oceanfront luxury homes, the One&Only Hotel and the world renowned Jack Nicklaus Ocean Nine golf course. Pangas and fishing cruisers are available for charter, but you won’t find water sport rentals such as kayaks or jet skis.

Location: Location:

In the heart of downtown Cabo San Lucas. This is accessible by foot through the east side of the marina or via Avenida del Pescador.

Tips:

Be prepared to be approached by souvenir vendors. If you’re not there for the shopping, just respond with “No, gracias.” Prices don’t vary much from one water sports rental place to another. Visit Lover’s Beach while you’re there.

LOVER’S BEACH

Getting there is an adventure in itself, due to the fact that it is reachable only by boat or kayak. The easiest way is to take a water taxi from the Cabo San Lucas Marina or Medano Beach. Prices are around $15.00 USD per person. Ask your captain to cruise by the arch and the sea lion rock for some great photo opportunities. Once you arrive, you’ll notice the striking rock formations and caves. Walk to the other side of the rocks and you’ll find yourself looking at the Pacific Ocean; the locals call this Divorce Beach. This side is very dangerous for swimming because of the powerful undertow, so swim on Lover’s Beach only. Land’s End beside the famous arch. This beach is accessible only by boat. There are a couple of vendors who offer beer and water, but you won’t find any other services. A good idea is to spend the day at Medano Beach and take an hour or two to go to Lover’s Beach; this should be time enough to explore this natural wonderland.

Tips:

SANTA MARIA

Santa Maria offers a stunning horseshoe cove with coralcoloured sand and abundant marine life. Boat excursions and private charters often stop here to enjoy the snorkelling and scuba diving that this National Marine Preserve offers. This family-friendly beach is relatively secluded; therefore, you rarely run into beach vendors. Travelling west from Cabo San Lucas towards San

Location: Take the Palmilla ramp exit at Km. 27. Follow

the signs and turn into the main beach parking area before the entrance to the One&Only Hotel. Palmilla is popular among local families on the weekends, so arrive early if you want a palapa, or bring your own umbrella. No services are available here.

Tips:

COSTA AZUL

If what you’re looking for is a good surf spot you can find it here without driving out of town. Head over to Zipper’s for a surf session and lunch and beers at the restaurant. To the west of Zippers is Acapulquito beach where the Cabo Surf Hotel and Mike Doyle Surf School are located. You can find surf shops in the area where you can rent surf and stand-up paddle boards and set up lessons. The surf is bigger during the summer, and in the winter this is a good spot for snorkelling and swimming. Exit at Km. 28 via the Costa Azul Bridge. Swimming with caution is possible in this area but keep an eye out for surfers.

LOS CABOS 101 LA PLAYITA

La Playita (the little beach) is a long stretch of beach where you will often find locals fishing from the shore and families with children enjoying the beach-front playground. On the right end of La Playita you can find a roped-off swimming area just outside the entrance to the beautiful Puerto Los Cabos 500-slip marina. To the left is the natural open beach where you can swim, skim-board and enjoy a peaceful beach day away from the crowds. Follow the signs to La Playita/ Puerto Los Cabos from Boulevard Mijares in downtown San José del Cabo (across from the fire department). You will find new and well-maintained bathrooms, palapas and fishing charters. There are no food services directly on the beach, but several casual restaurants dot the surrounding area.

Location: Tips:

On the Pacific CERRITOS

Cerritos beach is a popular surf spot and swimming here is relatively safe. The scenic 45-minute drive from Cabo San Lucas is well worth the trip as you drive along the pristine Pacific coast. The Cerritos Beach Club Restaurant is a perfect spot to spend a relaxing day on the beach or, if you want to be active, you can take a surf lesson at Baja Surf Camp or rent surf and boogie boards at the Costa Azul Surf Shop.

Location: This bay lies about 30 minutes

from the boardwalk in La Paz. Simply follow the main drag along the boardwalk, then through Costa Baja Golf Course and continue to wind around the coast and through the mountains until you see the signs for the beach. No bathroom facilities. There is a truck where you can buy water and snacks, but it is recommended to bring your own in case they are closed. There are palapas, but not many. Kayaks and snorkel gear are offered.

Tips:

Loreto

ISLA CORONADO

A wildlife reserve where visitors may anchor, snorkel, scuba and camp lies on this island. The panga ride usually includes a cruise around the island where it’s very common to see sea lions, seals and even sea otters. The only swimmable beach on the island has pristine white sand and shallow crystal clear turquoise water, which creates ideal snorkelling conditions. Coronado Island is the ideal place for an adventure or to simply immerse yourself in nature and relax.

Location: Tips:

Location:

Exit at Km. 66 of the Cabo San Lucas to Todos Santos Highway. Watch the markers and look for the signs. Drive about 1.7 miles to the beach area. Tips: Lounge chairs, restrooms, food and drinks are available at The Cerritos Beach Club Restaurant.

About 7 miles or 30 minutes northeast of Loreto by boat. To get to Coronado Island you must take a boat or a panga. You will find pangas in Loreto’s Marina which you can hire. The best option is to ask your concierge to arrange this for you. There are no services or restaurants on the beach, but there are several large palapas with tables and benches and an eco-restroom. Bring hiking shoes if you plan to explore the area. Snorkelling gear is a plus!

La Paz

BALANDRA

Balandra is a stunning bay that will take your breath away. You can walk back and forth in the bay in waist-high, crystal clear water with shades of turquoise blue. Follow the shore towards the north-east side and you will find the famous “mushroom rock” as well as other interesting rock formations. Pictures just don’t do it justice. You won’t regret visiting Playa Balandra!

HAPPENING NOW

By Fernando Rodriguez

LOS CABOS is an energetic place. San José del Cabo buzzes with culture and tradition, while Cabo San Lucas alerts your senses with bright lights and sounds of a good time coming from every direction. Events such as fishing tournaments, festivals, triathlons, conventions, charity galas, trendy parties and concerts take place in Cabo year-round. Here are this month's events! April 2 Holy Thursday (Jueves Santo) Holy Thursday is a bank holiday in Mexico. The date commemorates the Last Supper of Jesus Christ with the Apostles as described in the gospels of the bible. Holy Thursday is the most complex and profound of all religious observances, saving only the Easter Vigil. It celebrates both the institution by Christ himself of the Eucharist and of the institution of the sacerdotal priesthood -- for in this, His last supper with the disciples, a celebration of Passover, He is the selfoffered Passover victim, and every ordained priest to this modern day presents this same sacrifice, by Christ’s authority and command, in exactly the same way at every mass. The Last Supper was also Christ’s farewell to His assembled disciples, some of whom would betray, desert or deny Him before the sun rose again. April 3 Good Friday Good Friday is also a bank holiday in Mexico. Good Friday is a religious holiday observed primarily by Catholic/Christians commemorating the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and his 14

death at Calvary. Many of the restaurants in Los Cabos will offer breakfast, lunch and dinner meals in accordance with Good Friday tradition and history of not eating meat on this honoured, religious, once a year date. April 4 Holy Saturday Holy Saturday (Sábado Santo) is a Christian holiday celebrated nationwide in predominantly Catholic Mexico prior to Easter Sunday. On this day, solemn vigils are held at Catholic churches throughout the country. It is the day before Easter and the last day of Holy Week, in which Christians/Catholics prepare for Easter. It commemorates the day that Jesus Christ’s body lay in the tomb.

April 5, 2015 Easter Sunday One of Mexico’s biggest celebrations is Easter Sunday, the celebration in remembrance of the biblical story when Jesus rose from death. Easter is the culmination of

the Passion of Christ, preceded by Lent, a forty-day period of fasting, prayer, and penance. Easter Break, which begins April 1st, is when Cabo San Lucas is at its peak occupancy during pre-Easter Holy week. The Easter Break arrival of college kids from American universities follows the March Madness Spring Break exodus of partying college youth that crowd Medano Beach, and all the nightclubs along the downtown strip thrive during their alcoholconsuming evenings enjoying the vibrant Cabo nightlife. San Jose del Cabo hosts an annual Easter Sunday celebration whose festivities include a colourful parade, and flying eggs filled with confetti.

April 12 10th Annual Paws n' Claws Golf Tournament & Dinner The Los Cabos Humane Society presents their 10th Annual Paw n' Claws Golf Tournament & Dinner fundraising event to help continue to provide the benefits of a decreasing pet population and a cleaner environment in Los Cabos thanks to the tireless work their staff does in the community. Because there is no governmental agency to address the problem of homeless domestic animals living on the streets of Los Cabos, The Los Cabos Humane Society operates as a non-profit organization which exists as the only form of animal pro-

tection and control in the Southern Baja California region of both tourist-popular San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo. The LCHS Center only has a few paid staff members. The rest of the work (pet adoption, neutering) is accomplished by hardworking volunteers from both communities. Event Details: 18 holes on the Palmilla Golf Course. Registration at 11:00 am. Shotgun start: 12:00 pm. Dinner at Don Sanchez Restaurant featuring award winning Chef Tadd Chapman's "signature menu" created especially for this event. Cocktail reception: 6 pm. Dinner: 7:30 pm. Golf ticket: $375 USD. Dinner only ticket: $125.00. www.loscaboshumanesociety.com/paws_2015

April 24-26 4th Annual Gastrovino Festival By James Longton The 4th Annual Gastrovino Festival will be held on April 24, 25, and 26, with the main celebration culminating on Sunday at the Public Plaza in Todos Santos. This festival is dedicated to celebrating some of the best restaurants in Baja and favorite wineries from all over Mexico. Meet the chefs and sample their creations, while also meeting the winemakers and enjoying an array of tastings.Since 2012 this festival has raised more than $ 16,000 USD to support local institutions in need such as Hogar del Niño, the Fire Department, and the Boarding Home’ School. This is a great opportunity to experience the historic local culture, as well as help to support the budding local community. For $400 pesos (pre-sale) or $499 pesos (day of the event), attendees will receive a bracelet, a coupon for 5 culinary samples from any of the participating restaurants, 7 tasting from participating wineries, and a custom souvenir wine glass. Exhibitors will also be selling their products directly by the glass or bottle, as well as additional appetizers at special prices. www.DestinoMagazine.com | APRIL 2015

ENTERTAINMENT The festival will also feature many live music performances all over town including an acoustic guitar trio, traditional jazz, and gypsy flamenco, as well as the annual silent auction with all proceeds going to further benefit local charities. In its first 3 years, GastroVino has welcome approximately 1,750 attendees from all over the world, and this year guaranties to be the biggest yet. The highly anticipated addition this year will be the Gastrotour. From 6-9 pm, Saturday the 25th, participants can walk from restaurant to restaurant in the historic center of Todos Santos and enjoy unique wine pairings offered by special winemaker guests working with the renowned local chefs. Each year GastroVino has recorded almost 100% occupancy in hotels and local restaurants, so be sure to make your reservations early. For a full schedule of events, visit www.gastrovino.mx/fest

It’s Cabo, baby!

C’mon, who hasn’t heard of Cabo? This amazing destination offers gorgeous beaches, grand resorts, breath-taking sunsets, world-class cuisine, fishing, relaxation, adventure, culture, non-stop parties, the ocean, and nearly year-round sunshine. Cabo actually does have something for everyone. Our charming little Land’s End is easy to get to, safe, and loads of fun, which is why it’s also the most returned to vacation destination. Visitors love it so much that they continue to come back again and again. Don’t expect to hear any complaints when you tell your friends and family that you’re having your wedding in Cabo!

Predictable Weather Conditions

Every elderly Italian lady on earth can assure you that rainfall on your wedding day is extremely lucky, but it will still be your biggest wedding day fear. All the planning, the beautiful centerpieces, printed menus

and programs, and let’s not forget the hours of hair and makeup. The last thing you want to think about is moving your dream wedding indoors at the last minute to escape the rain. But we have good news – Los Cabos is warm and sunny almost all year long. You can count on predictably beautiful weather at least nine months out of the year. The hot and rainy season in Cabo is in the months of August and September, which are also the months when tropical storms are a possibility. Steer away from those pages of the calendar and your wedding day will surely be a beautiful one.

Affordability

Weddings in Los Cabos can certainly range in price, but whether your budget is $5,000 or $100,000, you’re sure to get more bang for your buck with a Cabo wedding than one in your own home town. With the breath-taking backdrops that this magical place has to offer, there’s no need for excessive décor. Also, destination weddings tend to go hand-in-hand with a smaller guest list, and fewer mouths to feed means less spending. This brings us to our next topic – The Guest List!

DESTINO DIARIES

A More Exclusive Guest List

A trip to Cabo will require travel, several days out of town, and hotel stays. This gives you the perfect opportunity to cut down on what usually starts out as an unmanageable guest list. We call it “The C List”. It’s the list of people you don’t necessarily want to invite, but you think they might be expecting an invitation, so you feel a strange obligation to include them. Not to worry, when your neighbor across the street learns that your wedding is in Los Cabos, any prior expectation for an invitation will quickly diminish. You can always throw a casual post-wedding party when you get back home. While a Cabo wedding will definitely offer you some control with who you want to invite, it certainly won’t limit you. The event venues in Los Cabos can accommodate anything from a romantic, private 2 person elopement to a grand event with a thousand guests. You choose!

Give Your Guests Something to Remember

After six months to a year or more of planning, most couples feel like the day of the wedding is over in a blink, no matter how good you are at savoring the moment. With a destination wedding, you have 3 or more days of fun with your guests. Of course, your actual wedding day will be the pièce de résistance, but you can also give you guest another full day or more of memories. Show your loved ones how much you appreciate them by planning a fun event like a welcome party, rehearsal dinner, pool day, or group excursion. A dinner cruise or sunset cruise is a great way to show your guests the famed Arch of Cabo while sailing around the bay. As soon as you settle on a Los Cabos destination wedding, you can say goodbye to the age-old ritual of spending half of your wedding reception walking around to every table to catch up with guests. You’ll already have spent hours of fun, quality time together on the days leading up to your wedding. Destination weddings tend to be more like family reunions, except that they combine two families. And isn’t the point of a wedding to join two families together?

Beautiful Scene

Your wedding day is supposed to be one of the most beautiful days of your life, and certainly among the most memorable. Why not celebrate it in one of the most stunning settings that the world has to offer? Maybe you want to incorporate a little

Mexican flare, a bit of fairytale sparkle, some rustic elegance, or some bold and colorful charm. Whatever you decide on will be surrounded by stretches gorgeous sandy beaches, swaying palm trees, crystal blue waters, warm ocean breezes, the sun setting over the Pacific Ocean, and moon rising over the Sea of Cortez. The landscape of this incredible place is almost unbelievable. Los Cabos is has no shortage of breathtaking views; the perfect setting for your wedding day.

Safety

One of our favorite things about Cabo is that the biggest safety concern should be a severe sun burn. Many Americans have concerns about traveling to Mexico, but Los Cabos is among the very safest of tourist destinations. You can rest assured that you’ll be bringing your wedding guests somewhere safe. While in town, you should exercise the same safety practices that you would at home, or in any other town. For example, don’t accept drinks from strangers, use the buddy system when out at night, especially when drinking, don’t leave your drink unattended, and don’t carry large amounts of cash on you. Aside from these general safety standards of travel, Cabo is a place that you can feel safe and secure. That said, with the many activities like boating, jet skiing, diving, paddle boarding, surfing, and fly boarding available, it’s strongly advised to be extra careful of yourself and others while in the water. Even swimming in certain places can be dangerous. Ask a local where the best swim spots are before you hop in. And definitely, definitely apply sunblock!

Travel Convenience

Los Cabos is among the most sought-after destinations for weddings in the world, in part because connectivity from the United States, Canada, Latin America, and Europe is decidedly efficient. Travel from anywhere is relatively easy and well-priced, particularly from North America. Every major international airline now has flights to Los Cabos, including new-to-thescene Southwest Airlines, offering direct flights from several major cities. Travelers from the western United States have always had it easy with short, 2-hour jaunts down the Baja, but now you can find direct flights originating from the Midwest and the East Coast, making a trip to Cabo as easy as domestic travel. To boot, the current exchange rate from dollars to pesos is nothing short of remarkable, making your Cabo visit more affordable than ever. Let’s face it, Mexico has never found itself on the list of most expensive places to visit.

A Variety of Options

One of the big appeals to a Cabo wedding is the sheer endless variety. From quaint boutique hotels that give guests a feeling of Old Mexico to the meticulously designed fivediamond resorts for the high-end affair, Cabo can give you exactly what you want. This charming little town can accommodate the simple bride whose only requirement is to have her toes in the sand, as well as the discerning bride with specific ideas in mind. And let’s not forget the creative do-it-yourself bride who wants to put her own special touch on her special day. Feeling a little country? Cabo has several renowned organic farm-to-table restaurants with a rustic, down-home atmosphere. Want to say your vows at sea? The Cabo San Lucas marina is one of the biggest and highly populated in the world. Take your pick from hundreds of beautiful boats. Cabo even offers services for avid scuba divers to get married under the sea! Los Cabos has become such a desirable wedding destination that it offers world class photographers, musicians, stylists, award winning chefs, and more. Whether you prefer a band or a DJ, Jazz or Mariachi, Authentic Mexican or Italian cuisine – you name it; Cabo has it!

It’s Easy!

Los Cabos boasts a plethora of qualified and experienced event planners who exist to make your wedding planning experience stress-free and easy. These talented coordinators know the ropes, can make calls on your behalf, negotiate rates, suggest creative ideas, and help you avoid unnecessary hurdles. In almost every case, your wedding planner will save you far more than he or she will charge for planning services. What could be more enjoyable that to have every detail of your weekend handled before you even arrive – airport shuttles, dinner reservations, spa treatments, activities, and of course, the wedding! Your planner’s top priority is to keep you under your budget, and that should be the first thing you discuss together. Give yourself the best wedding gift possible when you decide to tie the knot in Cabo – find a planner who you like and let go of any worrying and stress. This is supposed to be one of the happiest times of your life; enjoy it! * For Event planning and design specialists in beautiful Los Cabos, you can follow Bonnie’s blog at blissloscabos.wordpress.com or visit her website www.blissloscabos.com

Hurry hurry!” I don’t remember exactly what I said, but I can tell you I smiled to remind this lady that it is OK to wear a painted shirt, that it is OK to look like an artist, that after all, clothes are meant to be useful to us as garments for protection, but most importantly to remind her that whatever her feelings were at that moment - in regards to children getting their shirts painted while painting - well, they were just that: her feelings. “It is OK. Don’t worry. He is enjoying paint.” I might have just smiled and said, but what I meant to say was “Please, do not impose to my child your feelings about the art of living.” Be mindful, this story has no intention to condemn an obviously caring person, but to ask a question worth asking: What are we teaching our children? Los Cabos is an inspiring place. Everyone living here is following a dream and at one point or another you will get involved in teaching our youth and children about how they can follow theirs. It is our dreams that wake our desire and motivation into action. A perfect example is the beautiful events that Baja successful people organize -- Francois Paris, Onagh Ash, Caroline Wilson come to mind -- to gather us around positive causes and influence the lives of our next generation. Rich in wellness, Los Cabos charities, art galleries, food artisans, real estate companies, media, and local associations partner to inspire the community through service and fun interesting events, such as The Journey of Discovery ®, helping children with education and experiences to work towards their dreams, through change. Beautiful. Thank you. We can never assume that everyone we meet has or loves children, but we can always be certain that we all have been a child. And there is the artist. Being a child, all we know is the creative energy of all there is. Every child’s experience is a direct manifestation in consequence to his participation in it, thus the child lives every moment in a fluent feeling of awe. The child sees, hears, smells, tastes, touches, then he or she thinks (hopefully without judgement or expectation) and records a living diary based on observation and experiential truth. The child’s senses activate memory, comprehension, imagination, will and determination; sensorial perception will mould the child’s identity as she or he becomes who they choose to be. The child feels either a pleasant sensation or an unpleasant sensation. He observes the sensation, feels it., once it passes, the child moves on to the next experience, the next moment, the next breath, we hope learning whatever lesson that presented itself within the experience; but for sure the body/mind connection will record a memory in its Self consciousness that, if well directed, can blossom into awareness. It is all of us, as teachers, who will teach the judgment and the expectation about the experience the child is having. How we react to their natural decisions teaches them how to judge what they feel. How we manifest what we think about every situation will teach our children how to judge not only others, but themselves. When we share our abundant world with them, we awake not only the child senses into a magnetic youth, we also activate the senses of that child we all experience within, remaining eternally young. To teach the young to trust their own voice is maybe the most important lesson. The rest is indeed children's own journey. An odyssey of discovery. *

HEALTHY LIVING

by yeye

FEELINGS "The only person you are destined to become, is the person you decide to be." Ralph Waldon Emerson

True, nobody can tell me what living healthy is; I must discover it myself. How do I feel when I eat this or that? How do I feel when I say this or that? How do I feel when I do this or that? How do I feel when I think this or that? The question is, How do I feel? Everyone has a certain sound, a note, a deep tone within that is attached to a frequency that establishes our voice. Awe and majesty are naturally experienced in a healthy mind, hence how I define awesome and majestic defines my experience. To recognize ourselves as a co-creator of reality and to observe the role our emotions play in our understanding of the world around us is very important, because in this realization rests the value of finding our true nature. Psychology tells us that we become like the 5 people with whom we spend the most time. New Biology discovered that our cellular behaviour and DNA information are determined by the environment in which we live, physically, mentally and emotionally. Wild enough, neuroscience explains that the plasticity of the mind allows the brain to establish new hemispheric connections, allowing it to change and restore itself. Then, it seems clear that our physical, emotional and mental wellbeing is a direct reflexion of our choices. Yes? What is wonderfully healthy about Baja Sur, México is its freedom. Here, you are free to choose the most awesome and majestic experiences, all inspired by the ocean, by the sand, by clean air, by its awesome and majestic people. The details of such experiences are customized to who you are, hence to ‘know thyself’ is at the core of being healthy. When you don’t know who you are, somebody else will surely tell you who they think you should be. The choice is yours. Back to where we started, if I was to take the liberty to tell you what a healthy lifestyle looks like, I would probably say that you are looking at it. What is that which you see? Welcome to your Self. Thank you for choosing to live your life beautifully, soulfully, and in the most ignited way that you can. How do you feel? ( We hope Baja healthy, wink wink.

Sex

The couple’s workout

“Tantra is not technique but prayer. It’s not head oriented, but a relaxation into the heart. Please remember it.” Osho

As times change and our collective consciousness evolves into awareness of a more wholesome way of living, the stories we tell each other remain as the more powerful influence that essentially create the world as we know it, and bound us as we explore our true nature. Sex is still a taboo in many families. Contradictory enough, a lot of people seem to be talking about sex, redefining tradition, fantasizing desires, sometimes distorting liberation with lustful hedonistic practices. Misunderstood, we risk travelling through relationship as introverts, or even worse accommodating to the social sexual trends of others without awareness. But is this really nurturing our sense of Self? Is this really bringing us closer to each other? Is this making us happier people? Is this a beneficial example to our children? In yoga tradition, sex is seen only as a diversion into the sensorial plane, distracting us from the path to enlightenment. Thus, one of the precepts followed by the yogi is to avoid sexual misconduct, to avoid harming yourself or others. Celibacy has its magical source of energetic force. and monks study it as a discipline; but the yogi who chooses the householder lifestyle must nurture true wisdom. Tantra being a combination of practices such as asana, pranayama, mudra, mantra, meditation and insight for kundalinni awakening, has no place whatsoever for S&M psychology or any other type of abusive behaviour, let’s say no shades of grey. Tantra sex message is very clear: Sex is sacred...it is the energy of life. Pure and light energy. It is all about Love. Cosmic Love. Selfish Love. Pure love. May your relationship with divine, yourself, and others, be blessed with Love. *

“It is through our intimate relationships with others that we come to know and love ourselves.” Partner Yoga

The benefits of exercising with your lover can be many. Somebody who loves you motivates you to be the best of who you are. In return, you want to see the one you love happy and healthy, and naturally you support their success. Fitness is all about clear thinking and strength of character. It requires discipline, sobriety, consistence, strong will, but essentially lots of deep breathing and focus. Who does not benefit from deep breathing and focus? Through a shared fitness routine, you and your lover inspire each other while spending quality time together. Interestingly, during a couple’s workout, it is not as much the time spent with each other as the time spent with the Self that will benefit your relationship. A successful fitness routine for two will allow you both to see that Love is Space. Space to let each other feel all the emotions that make us human, without judgement or expectation. During a good workout, we feel all the emotions of who we are at that moment, but instead of projecting them to our other-half we get to sweat them out and observe them pass, leaving us with a better understanding of ourselves and the other. And the best part of partner fitness is that, after lots of deep breathing and focus, we get to share the sensation of bliss we are left with, simultaneously. Isn’t that why we exercise after all? To feel that bliss. A walk by the beach, a run through the marina, a bike ride through the canyons, a gym boot camp for two, a partner yoga session, a dancing class, a swim in the ocean, a marathon training, or a 30 minutes meditation in the mornings, a couple’s work out is bound to make you a happier couple. Every day is a new day. Breathe.

ECO-Friendly Chic ECOlover Congratulations, when you chose Baja you have already chosen a location that will show the beauty of the environment. Next, choose a hotel that uses solar panels and a seawater purification system; a hotel with a grey water recycling program, a location which grows their own produce and herbs on site may be ideal. Make sure they recycle aluminium, glass and plastic. Now, do you know where your rings come from? To use recycled metals and fair-labour gemstones is very eco. You can very well start by hiring a green wedding planner, or by expressing how important it is for you to plan an Eco wedding, so that effort is invested in keeping the transportation emissions low and in supporting the local economy by hiring local vendors. When choosing your dress, opt for recycled materials or make sure your designer supports a good cause. HEALTHY LIVING tography does. Who said recycled invitations can’t be beautiful? But you also have the alternative to cut back on paper, create a wedding Web site where your guests can get directions, reply, and find out wedding information. Use farmers’ market finds to create bouquet and table arrangements, or use potted plants which can be given away to your attendants at the end of your big day. Choose an Organic menu. When you’re planning your honeymoon, keep in mind the practice of ecotourism, which is defined by The International Ecotourism Society as “responsible travel to natural areas that conserves the environment and improves the well-being of local people.” Avoid cosmetics containing shark squalene and jewellery made of coral or sea turtle shell. These products are directly linked to unsustainable fishing methods and the destruction of entire ecosystems. Avoid products produced through unsustainable or environmentally harmful methods. Purify your mind of toxic thinking. Be a Chic ECOlover.

Organic WATER - creates the structure of DNA. We would not have the DNA Helix without water. Our bodies would not work. Pollution is not the only danger to our water. Thoughts and emotions affect the quality of our water. It is the memory of information, like a computer memory. Then, if water is picking up and embedding our thoughts, what is that we are thinking? Known to ancients as a transmitter to and from the higher realms, water retains memory and conveys information to DNA. However, water can die if treated poorly. Influences such as sound, thoughts, intention, and prayer, as well as toxins such as chlorine, structure water’s molecular arrangement – affecting all it comes in contact with. Think positive, our bodies are made almost 80% of water. Love. HOME IMAGINE you live here

a Honey Moon at Land s End By Yeye

Q:

Real Estate questions asked by you, answered by local real estate expert Blake Harrington, of REmexico Real Estate Group

What is the closing process when purchasing a home in Los Cabos?

Honeymooners! Do you know the origin of the honeymoon? There are several versions; one dates back 40,000 years to Babylon. The father of the bride would give the groom all the mead (a honey-wine brew) that he could drink for a whole month, or an entire "moon." Another version claims that it was in Germany where the tradition started. The Teutons, a Celtic tribe, celebrated their weddings only under the full moon. After the event, the couple drank an elixir made with honey and wine for 30 days to enhance their fertility. This period came to be known as the Honey Moon. For the Scandinavians, a honeymoon meant to hide. During the times of Attila the King of the Huns, when a man kidnapped a woman from a nearby town, he would be forced to hide her for some time. During this period, the only one who knew where she was hidden was the “best man.” When the bride’s family stopped looking for her, the groom could then return to his town with his newly-kidnapped bride. Whether the bride liked this tradition or not has not been passed down as a part of this story. So, this leaves us to assume that it was all about the wine brewed with honey. One might guess that they were so drunk and their intelligence so blurred as to think that stealing women was a sign of manhood. Crazy! Today, more than 1,500 years later, in many places a honey moon means that you are to travel to a romantic place, often far away and exotic, and that the bride comes willingly. Couples see it as the perfect opportunity to retreat together from the world, and freely celebrate their life as a couple. To keep

with the tradition though, during their honeymoon couples still hope to see a beautiful moon together, and want their drink to be as exquisite as honey. Los Cabos is indeed a perfect honeymoon destination. In San José del Cabo, we brew our own beer -- you might even get to try a sea urchin, mezcal and peyote brew -- but at least 7 types of craft beer are offered at our Art District Brewery: bottled, growlers and pints to go. Then, you have Baja wines from Valle de Guadalupe; the restaurant at your resort or boutique hotel has a cava of selected ones, and many restaurants in town will take you through a holy pairing experience. You might even decide to participate in one of our wine and cheese tasting famous Cabo charity events, or book a weekend to enjoy the Baja winery route. If you enjoy cactus more, San José and San Lucas tequilerías and mezcalerías are quite an educating experience about the Mexican Maguey. For the bubble lovers, a Moét & Chandon white party while experiencing some of the finest sailing is a perfect start to your honeymoon in Cabo. For healthy living lovers, non-alcoholic herbal aphrodisiac cocktails abound, and Baja retreats offer you a beautiful peaceful experience with organic menus, where instead of drinking mead to connect with each other, you do yoga and meditation, which enhances fertility and keeps your body and mind in ecstasy. If what you want is exotic nature, definitely visit the Islands of Loreto. Now, imagine you live here... *

A:

There are thousands of Americans, Canadians, and/or ExPats that reside in Los Cabos full time in their deeded full ownership property. The process of closing a deal on your next Baja dream home has continually improved over the years. While each transaction has its own characteristics, here's how it works in most cases and with our buyers at REmexico Real Estate Group. Deposits: Once the buyer and seller have come to an agreement on price and terms in writing, we categorize the property as "Pending" and/or "Under Contract". The initial deposit is usually between 5-10% of the purchase price, or as had been written and agreed upon in the Offer to Purchase submitted by the buyer, and delivered to an escrow account within 5-7 days of acceptance. Escrow: There are two commonly used escrow holders in Cabo. Stewart Title and Fidelity both have representatives locally and provide services for safe transfers of purchase or proceed funds for both buyer and seller. Each company, respectively, hold accounts in United States and Mexico so the principals/clients can determine which account best suits their needs. Our clients find piece of mind in using these well-respected escrow companies when purchasing a home and we do work hand in hand with the escrow companies on the closings of each deal. Title and Closing Time Frames: As we've discussed before in the Destino Magazine Q&A, the two instruments to hold title depend on your citizenship and status within Mexico. 1. For nationals of Mexico, they may use traditional title with "Escritura". This process is a quicker process where titles can be drawn up in as little as 30 days and closing thereafter. 2. For foreigners, the "Fideicomiso" takes a bit longer to draw up within the banks. So, this makes the closing process more of a 60-90 day process, with most closings happening around the 90th day. Notary and Closing: Once all paperwork, titles are ready for transfer, the buyers and sellers meet with their broker and attorney with a local notary to finalize the deal. At this point, funds are released and all legal documentation transfers are completed. At REmexico Real Estate, we understand that this process may be a bit confusing. However, that is why we are here! We take pride in our knowledge of the process and in assisting our clients through the closing process smoothly.
