FROM THE EDITOR

Motivation Is the KEY!

F

or MOST women, motivation is more than just a

word. Of course it has a meaning to inspire or a driving force to move forward. In today’s society a driving force is a necessity with family, community and every day routines. Unless we have an automatic brain device to stay motivated, one must find outlets and avenues that inspire. There are times in life when the inevitable will occur in everybody’s life. Through situations in which we all must cope with are death, illness, a broken relationship or personal issues. With those situations some type of therapy has to occur in order to motivate ourselves enough to move forward through the pain. Motivation is about a positive motion to stimulate, prompt and encourage oneself. This type of motivation comes from within the dept of our souls. Digging deep within ourselves will allow us to see the bigger picture that life has to offer. Hopefully that bigger picture will provoke us to stay motivated for ourselves and the love of our family and friends.

Pastor Hope Carpenter 2013 Birthday Extravaganza with Family and Friends of RWOC My

daughter and I formed a new family at RWOC’s Beautiful Birthday Extravaganza for Pastor Hope Carpenter. As soon as you walked into the door, absolute love from EVERYBODY that you passed. Warm hellos, smiles, hugs and blessings were shared through the entire gym. Blessings were coming from Mothers, Daughters, Granddaughters, Sisters, and Aunts. Hope Carpenter is the first lady of RWOC and the wife of Pastor Ron Carpenter. She celebrated another birthday with friends, family and church members. This type of event is not usually shared with church members in such a large capacity but it shows the love and support that Hope has for her friends. We commend

Hope Carpenter on extending an invitation to bring together a large group of women for a spirit filled night with laughter, fun, dance, food and a delicious straw berry birthday cake. Her time was spent taking pictures with everybody, dancing with everybody and spreading lots of hugs and blessings. People were lined up to get ALL of the above! If you have not had the opportunity to attend A Hope Carpenter Birthday Bash, you are truly missing out on a fun filled spirited party. To get more information about RWOC Ministry, please visit

HEALTH

Kalyea Moss a Health Coach from the Institution of Integrative Nutrition is passionate about Educating Women on Holistic Nutrition.

Anyone

has the ability to live beautifully. When you look in the mirror do you see a confident, determined and courageous woman? You should because everything that you need to live beautifully lies within you. Losing weight and becoming fit are right within your reach. I’m going to share with you My Top 6 weight loss Tips, which I affectionately call “Kalyea’s Six Pack.” 1. Stay Positive. When positive energy flows, you would be surprised how things turn around. Say positive affirmations such as, “I am getting fit every day.” Avoid negative talk like, “I’m so fat and ugly.” Your words have power. Only affirm the positive!! 2. It has been said, “The company you keep will determine the levels you reach.” Make sure you surround yourself with positive people who will support your efforts. When attempting to lose weight, stay away from negative people and conversation. 3. Stay Active. Physical Activity is important; it

keeps your heart strong, burns fat, and makes you feel great. Start off by walking; there is nothing wrong with taking baby steps. After gaining 60 pounds from my pregnancy and an emergency c –section I was scared to work out. Once I started walking, I wanted to try jogging and before I knew it I loved working out. The benefits were incredible; the weight started to melt off, and I felt energized. 4. Take your time. In order to keep the weight off you must do it slowly. When you lose the weight quickly you’re more likely to gain it back and more. It may seem like it’s taking forever, but it’s well worth the wait. 5. Eat more veggies. Can you imagine craving kale instead of chocolate? I couldn’t either. Dark leafy greens have been proven effective in Cancer prevention, improved circulation, and a strengthened immune system. 6. Water, Water, Water- I can’t say it enough. Water does wonders in the body. Your body is made up of mostly water and you must keep it hydrated. Water detoxifies the body, transports nutrients and oxygen into cells and helps with metabolism. It doesn’t get any better than that. Ladies water is also great in keeping our skin clear and looking refreshed. Weight loss is like anything else in life you want. You must stay focused on your goal and true to yourself. I can’t say there won’t be times when you want to give up and just say forget it. There will be times when you don’t want to eat a salad and that burger and fries look better. I know because I’ve been there. Ladies it gets better and easier. You have to stick to it and believe me you will be elated that you fought through the hard times. It takes months, sometimes years for us to put on the weight, and it will take time and patience to get it off. Your time is now, Live Beautifully. Q: What Spiritual Beliefs or Other steps do you practice to get motivated every morning? A: I say GO FOR IT and don’t give up. Unfortunately, people don’t like to see other people succeed. You must showcase a positive attitude in order to overcome negativity. Get to a level where it doesn’t matter what others think and proceed toward success with or without others support. If you are passionate about something then you will not give up regardless of any obstacles in your path. Always fulfill your passion from inside out. Q: What do you think about the current economic conditions of the World? A: It really saddens me with the bad situations that are going on in the world today. I can only hope and pray it gets better. I rather not speak in details about world political or economical issues because I have supporters from different walks of life and I do not want to stir up controversy among people.

THE UNAPOLOGETIC WOMAN By: A Native African Student

Zama Peter WOMAN, I can't help but think of the word Woman and find myself smiling. Years back the reference was never one of my preferred names. I remember when the time came for my menstrual transition of leaving my “girly body” and embracing a more mature me. This was not a time I welcomed in a light-hearted manner. For me the process seemed unnecessary and I just couldn't make sense of the transition. The fact was that I had to buy sanitary towels, wear bras and behave like a lady. Simply because my body was reaching a stage of adolescence with major hormone changes. The necessity of this process never made sense to me because I had enjoyed and became very attached to the person I was, what I wore and how I behaved. The idea of having to adapt and embrace unrequested change in nature was not appealing to me. I still find myself puzzled at the reference “WOMAN”. After years of owning a body which seemingly qualifies me for the term 'WOMAN'. To try and make better sense of this reference “WOMAN”, I researched the history of both South African Women as well as a broad spectrum of World Re-

nowned Women. I came across the likes of Princess Diana, Mother Theresa and Maya Angelou. The light was clearer only when I researched deep into the contributions of these women that the reference “WOMAN” seemed appealing to me. These women had been responsible for change in so many dynamics. They are symbols and statures of life, ability, success, freedom, strength and courage. All traits that are worth the recognition and credit they have been given. A question arose in my mind and as I looked deeper into many instances which had given women such as Princess Diana their recognition. I asked myself the question, did these women get their recognition because of achieving something inline with the opinions of everyone. Or did they rise above the status quo to achieving greatness? Some people believe that high tributes and recognition are unachievable. As I tried to answer my questions I found myself asking the question, ''What do their achievements, inspirations and motivation mean to me? What type of inspiration are other women obtaining? Of course I do not bare all the answers to my questions. When referencing these women and apDestiny 18

plauding their ability, a part of me worry about the reaction as opposed to the intent of using these famous women as beacons of hope to encourage and remind WOMEN that we are ABLE. I cannot stress enough how important it is that we make our unique contributions in our respective fields of interest and not limit our endeavors to imitating the achievements of others. This insight we need to apply in all spheres of our lives from the religious content of being aware for Christians that the bible had for Mary, Ruth and Esther and you were not born to copy Mary, Ruth or Esther. You should by all means refer to some traits of historical women, but also establish your individual purpose. You are NOW in that position to trust that you are the perfect model. Look within you and ONLY then will you see how much of a unique history you are called to make. Do not desire anything but to be the Best “YOU” can be. No matter where you are located.
