Since 1970, the Detroit Symphony Orchestras Civic Youth Ensembles (CYE) have provided musicians with comprehensive music education. CYE offers training and performance opportunities for all ages and ability levels — from elementary school students through adults in the following areas: Civic advanced studies, Civic large ensembles, Civic chamber music and small ensembles and Civic classes and labs. CYE is one of the only programs of its kind associated with one of the world’s greatest symphony orchestras, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. All members of CYE benefit from engaging one-on-one interactions with DSO musicians and internationally renowned artists, all while performing in the state of the art facilities of the Max M. Fisher Music Center — including historic Orchestra Hall. CYE’s mission is to foster the development of every student’s artistic and creative potential. CYE faculty believe music can provide youth with the necessary tools to develop important life skills such as critical and analytical thinking, creative problem solving, effective communication and teamwork, and to help them to discover success no matter what path in life they choose. We invite you to join our ever-expanding Civic Youth Ensembles family.
