JAMES ROSE JR.
Conductor amon Gupton is the first-ever Principal Guest Conductor of the Cincinnati Pops. A native of Detroit, he previously served as American Conducting Fellow of the Houston Symphony and Assistant Conductor of the Kansas City Symphony, and has conducted leading orchestras including the Boston Pops, San Francisco Symphony, National Symphony Orchestra, and Toledo Symphony. Other musical collaborations include work with Marcus Miller, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Common, Leslie Odom Jr., Byron Stripling, Tony DeSare, The Midtown Men, Kenn Hicks, and Jamie Cullum. Gupton received his Bachelor of Music Education degree from the University of Michigan and is a graduate of the Drama Division of The Juilliard School. Awards include the Robert J. Harth Conducting Prize, Aspen Conducting Prize, and the inaugural Emerging Artist Award from the University of Michigan School of Music and Alumni Society. An accomplished actor, Gupton has held roles in television, film, and on stage, including series regular roles on Big Door Prize, The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey starring Samuel L. Jackson, Black Lightning, Criminal Minds, and Deadline. He has appeared in films including Whiplash, La La Land, This is 40, The Last Airbender, and The Loretta Claiborne Story. Stage roles include the Broadway production of Bruce Norris’s Pulitzer Prize- and Tony Awardwinning Clybourne Park, the Ovation and LA Drama Critic’s Circle award-winning Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, Superior Donuts, and Christina Anderson’s Inked Baby, among others.
Narrator and DSO Board of Trustees member ames Rose Jr. serves as the Global Managing Director of Client Services for all Deloitte member service firms to the Ford Motor Company. He is responsible for delivering the firm’s multidisciplinary solutions, including business innovation and IT consulting, digital transformation, privacy and enterprise risk management, tax, and financial advisory services to Ford Motor Company worldwide. Prior to joining Deloitte, Rose worked as an advanced engineering director for Tata Technologies, held executive management roles in consulting and software services at Carlisle and Company, served as Vice President Blue Titan Software and Vice President and Corporate Officer at OEConnection and worked for IBM, his seminal experience, where Rose held many positions, culminating as the Director and Business Unit Executive of Global Automotive Software and Services. A multi-disciplinary individual, Rose holds a BA degree in Music Performance from the New England Conservatory of Music, completed post-graduate studies at The Julliard School of Music, and is a graduate of the IBM Executive Education Program with a concentration in Marketing from Warwick University and the Harvard University Executive Negotiation Clinic. Recently, Rose was awarded the “Deloitte Innovator of the Year Award” for exceptional strategic client service. Rose currently serves on the Board of Trustees of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and the Community Board of Beaumont Hospital. He was recently appointed to the Board of Trustees of Olivet College.
