This skill originated more than five centuries back and is still practiced by the Rafoogars of Najibabad, Priya's home town in Uttar Pradesh, India. Priya's project looks at making visible the invisibility of the Rafoogari tradition, moving the social and historical context of their artistic skills into the light. Huntly has its own unique history, based on the linen boom in the 18th century. Priya aims to highlight this textile tradition together with two members of the Rafoogar community, Intekhab and Zakir. They are conducting a workshop stretching over all of October where people are invited to bring along their favourite damaged textiles to be mended, renewed and transformed by Indian hands. A unique opportunity to learn and interact with the Rafoogars to experience their invisible darning tradition. www.deveron–arts.com
