23/01/04 PRESS RELEASE From Deveron Arts, The Studio, Brander Building, The Square, Huntly, AB54 5BR Contact: Claudia Zeiske: 01466 792734 Subject: Paul Anderson Concert Scotland’s first ever fiddler in residence, Paul Anderson, bids Huntly farewell on Friday 30th January, presenting ‘The Strathbogie Collection’ at a concert in the town’s Stewart’s Hall, 7.30pm. The internationally acclaimed musician from the small north-east community of Tarland will be presenting new compositions based on his time as musician in residence in Huntly. His new tunes celebrate both Huntly’s past, such as the historic castle, and more hum drum present concerns, such as the shortbread factory, football club and local butchers shop, where Paul surprised shoppers one day with an off the cuff performance. Paul will be accompanied during the concert by pianist and comedian George Donald, of ‘Scotland the What’ fame. There will be music from the Huntly and District Pipe Band, and some of the young local fiddlers who Paul has been working with during the past four months. The Pipe Band will be playing for the first time a tune specially composed for them by Paul. Paul was brought to Huntly by locally based arts organisation Deveron Arts, with the aid of Scottish Arts Council funding. He has been a lively asset to the town over the winter months, performing at ceilidhs and in lunchtime pub sessions, as well as allowing the next generation of fiddlers from the area to benefit from his considerable talent and knowledge.
