PRESS RELEASE Nashville, TN---February 2006----This past January marked the huge success of the 3rd Annual Southern Entertainment Awards at the Grand Casino in Tunica, MS. Co-founders, Janiro Hawkins II and DJ Infamous are already gearing up another great year. Thanks to the incorporation of all the Southern states (TN, GA, OK, TX, MS, FL, AR, AL, NC SC and LA), new award categories including best “Urban Magazine”, “Mixtape Website”, “Model” and “Spoken Word Artist”, and the assistance of the Rap Coalition founder, Wendy Day, the SEAs have received more than just a little buzz around the urban entertainment community. Nationally-generated pre-press garnered them a feature on the celebrated online hip-hop magazine website, AllHipHop Dot Com and MTV was on site during the awards program that had an attendance of over 1,200 people. National DJs (Clinton Sparks, DJ Drama, Rapid Ric), artists (BG, Yo Gotti, La Chat, Ms. Cherry, Gangsta Boo, DSR), promoters and label executives from all over the country including New York, New Jersey, California, Ohio and Michigan were also in attendance, proving that this event is not just for southern-based artists but for all those in the independent industry. “I’ve also noticed more people planning ahead for the SEAs, from the timing of when artists release their CDs to magazines creating special issues around the event,” says Janiro Hawkins II. “I’m really proud of its progression. The only thing differently I would like to see in 2007 is for more people to make it out for the entire weekend so that they can benefit from not just the awards show but the conference and various panels as well. This year there were about 300-500 people in attendance at the conferences, which is approximately a 200% growth from when we first began. But, because we’re always trying to stay on top of the advancements in the entertainment industry, we believe that the entire experience could play a significant role in taking independent artists to that next level.” Next year will bring about more additions including new award categories (“Impact Personality”, “Slept On Personality”, “Record Pool”, “Independent DVD”, “Mix DVD”, “DVD Magazine”). However, while the founders of the SEAs currently reside in Nashville, the home of the awards show will remain in Tunica. “Tunica has welcomed us with open arms and for now, this is the place best suited for what we want to achieve,” says Hawkins.

EARWAX RECORDS
ATLANTA, GA
Earwax Records, is a 14 year old Atlanta music store. We started out with the mindset of being a self preservation of vinyl as it related to Hip Hop Music. We provided an early outlet for Hip Hop DJ’s to have access to the latest music on vinyl. DJ’s and music lovers came from far and wide to shop at Earwax. We were the first music store in Atlanta to sell Hip Hop Vinyl. As the word spread, artist visiting Atlanta made Earwax a promotional stop. Over the years, people from all over the US, Europe, Russia, Japan, Korea Australia, Brazil, Cuba have shopped at Earwax Records. We service several International music stores with vinyl. As technology changed we transitioned from cassettes to CD’s. We began to carry a wider variety of music including jazz, soul, reggae, pop and a lot of underground music. With emphasis on customer service, we have a reputation for having obscure or hard to find music. During this time, we attempted to corner the vinyl market collecting classic Hip Hop, Soul Classics, Movie Soundtracks, Classical Music, Broadway Musicals, Jazz, Soul, Gospel, Rock, and Pop. We have from Porgy & Bess to Oklahoma from The
6 DV8 MAGAZINE
Beatles to Elvis from Donny Hathaway to Frank Sinatra to Nina Simone to Awesome 2 from the Real Roxanne to Cooley High to the Drifters to Peter Frampton to Mozart. At this point our vinyl inventory boasts over 1 million pieces of vinyl. (Yes people still buy vinyl; actually turntables are making a comeback. Plus Asians and Europeans have a greater appreciation for American Classic Music. They buy a ton of it! We also service other small retail vinyl stores) You have probably noticed that small music shops are a dying breed. The introduction of the Wal-Marts and Circuit City’s have squeezed and squeezed until the Record Bars, Turtles, Towers, Coconuts, Top Banana’s have all said good bye. These superstores can sell music cheaper; as they use music as a loss leader. Lead you in their store with the music price, take a loss, but make up for it on higher margined electronics or volume orange juice. We’re not “Hating” on them, but it’s a fact. Earwax continues to re-invent itself to be more than just a record store. One way is that we have chosen to help Independent Artist and Labels sell more music. The superstores aren’t willing to work with the Indies. Sure if they can hang a poster of Jay Z or Destiny’s Child or Christina or Justin’s face in the store, they are ok with that. These are the same faces that are on MTV. These
stores are major music promoters. Will they hang your picture up? Will they sell your music? Will they play your video? Not likely, this is one way we can compete with them. By the way is iTunes playing your video? What about CD Baby? Didn’t think so. Earwax is located in Atlanta at 565 Spring Street, 30308. Our store is open from 12 Noon to 8 PM Monday thru Saturday. We are closed Sunday. We are located 2 blocks SW from the North Avenue Marta Train Station. We are next door to the Renaissance Hotel Downtown on the Spring Street side. Online we are located at www.earwaxrecords.com and we are open 24/7 on line. Always willing to help! Thanks for visiting. We hope to see you again soon. Have a great week! ABS (Always Be Selling)

While attending TSU Swift was known for being the D.J. for the fraternities and sororities on campus. He later graduated from TSU with a degree in marketing and decided to stay in Nashville to pursue his career in the music industry. Swift began to make his mark on the local scene by putting out some of the hottest mixtapes in the city. It was not too long until Swift began to hit the whole southeast and northeast regions selling in over 10 states and 50 cities by using ads in major magazines and finding regional music distribution companies to distribute his CDs. Ranging from thugged-out south joints to smooth R&B slow jams, Swift currently holds over 80 mixtapes under his belt. To help break local artists D.J. Sir Swift has began the Plain & Simple mixtape series. Major artists such as B.G., Maceo and Chamillionaire have hosted his most recent series Supply & Demand. DJ CHUCK T
Hailing from Charleston, SC DJ Chuck T is one of the South’s top DJs and has only been in the game since early 2001. Born David Thrower, Chuck T entered into the DJing game after a successful but stressful rap career. Losing his passion for rapping, but not his passion for music, Chuck T felt that through his knowledge of the music industry he could help aspiring rappers get the exposure they needed by dropping mix tapes. He also learned from his experience as a rapper that most radio stations won’t play music from underground artists due to radio station “politricks” so he infiltrated a well known Charleston radio station in hopes of changing the cruel and unusual treatment that underground artists were receiving. His first mix tape release, entitled Ghetto Gangstas Vol. 1, was released in March 2001 and quickly flew off the shelves of music stores across the southeastern region of the United States. Ghetto Gangsters Vol. 2 and Vol. 3 followed and also were major hits through out the southeast. DJ Chuck T not only gave his listeners the music they wanted from major artist, but also included many underground artists who were on the rise. Chuck T also used his weekend radio show to break new records from national artists and slide in a few records from underground artists as well. With his name ringing bells all over the southeast and both major and underground record labels calling for Chuck T’s assistance with various projects, many local DJs saw their stocks fall and chose to hate on
Chuck T rather than step their game up. In early 2002 Chuck T left the radio station and has been blackballed in Charleston radio ever since. “This radio game in my city is fucked up.” quotes Chuck T. “They only want to play the same shit all day long. Niggaz are tired of hearing the same music over and over again. There are 3 urban stations in my city and they are always gonna be the same unless someone takes a chance and plays the music the streets want to hear and break new records also.” But the streets embraced their King and not only did Chuck T’s mix tapes become a hotter commodity, but he copped some turntables and began spinnin’ at some of the biggest events in the southeast. In the last year DJ Chuck T has had many lucrative job offers for executive positions at record labels, radio stations, and music store chains but has chosen to stay independent and unaffiliated with one particular company or clique so he can further help underground artists and keep new music circulating in the streets. In 2003 DJ Chuck T dropped a total of 55 mix tapes and is responsible for helping 6 underground artists and their record labels sign major distribution deals. Right now Chuck T is hard at work on his record label and management firm, Port City Productions, his southeastern music and video distribution company. DJ Chuck T and Port City Productions is definitely a Super Power in the music industry.

DJ Chela is the DJ for the next generation, representing her values and music with passion. Since her beginnings in 2002, she has performed on three continents, branding her name in everything from radio, clubs, mixtapes, battles and live shows to political activism. Out of her legwork she has birthed a movement all her own: the New Girl Order, embracing the new possibilities for our world when Womens voices have an undeniable and respected presence in Hip Hop and society as a whole. Spending her formative years between Durham, NC and Nicaragua, Chela saw a lot of the world and from a young age dedicated her life to a global movement for social justice. During this time she also became impassioned by music and in 93 learned to play the guitar, writing and performing original songs. In 1998, living in Oberlin, Ohio, she fell in love with DJing and after several years gathered the experience and courage to take it on. Later in Durham she worked alongside the Reggae sound system TNT Sound and turntablism pioneer DJ Soundmachine, honing her skills. Today, her live sets are a dynamic synthesis of Hip Hop, RnB, Reggae, Latin rhythms, Rock and Pop to classic funk and soul, and have secured her gigs everywhere from New York, Miami, DC, Philadelphia, to Caracas, Venezuela. Chelas recent mixtape releases Chela for President, Embedded Reporter: Live from the Front Line, High Treason and Torch Pass have helped her to establish a unique style all her own in mixtapes: revolutionary themes combined with scratch production, mixing and original blends, with a focus on showcasing emerging artists.
S.E.G.A. BOYS Every so often, a group emerges verbalizing the dreams cast by an entire people. A mission the S.E.GA Boys willingly have accepted. The group consists of four players armed with individual abilities that when harmonized, form an entity destined for greatness. Palay (pronounced Pa-Lay) serves as an urban Michelangelo with a new canvas painting lyrical pictures speaking volumes about living on the edge of an unprivileged life. Palay is motivated by realism as he states, I gotta get it, but Ive only got one life to live and I cant be on the block forever. Star-Easy serves as the pool of creativity that the group draws upon to focus its attack. Star-Easy explains his recording strategy as, you gotta have a fire beat. Plus, every song we make is recorded as if it will be a single. Next, Big Smoove is the soul of the crew whose vocal stylings have been directly touched by gospel great, Shirley Caesar. Smoove is not worried about success as the old folks put it, youve got somebody 10 DV8 MAGAZINE
praying for you. Finally, Killa serves as a silent but deadly tool for dispatching all obstacles to the red clay mountaintop. Growing up in Waycross, Georgia, the S.E.GA Boys felt the skills of the 912 region were nice, yet they did not receive any shine. In fact, according to Big Smoove in Ludacris Area Codes, the 912 was not even mentioned. Frustrated, the group created an organization consisting of over 20 Waycross warriors. Hence, the SouthEast Georgia Boys or S.E.GA Boys for short. However, as Palay said it best, everybody has ups and downs; some people had different levels of seriousness. So, we branched off. The current quartet serves as the survivors lighting the path for Waycross, Southeast Georgia, and Northern Florida. A great musician named Duck from The Five Heartbeats once said that you become a true artist once you experience pain. If that is the
criteria, the S.E.GA Boys artistry is pure as they have had their hearts broken not once, but twice. The first occurred with the record, Dead Tight. It generated enough buzz on neighboring WJBT-Jacksonvilles city wide callin poll to be ..1 for 10 weeks. Tragically, the song died when a label attempted to hijack the track. Broken dream number two occurred after they created a song and video celebrating the S.E.GA community named Georgia. Lo and behold, Star-Easy received a horrifying phone call announcing a new exclusive by Ludacris and Field Mob named Georgia that sounded eerily similar. There is no animosity towards the DTP Family from the S.E.GA Boys, because as Big Smoove says, our song has a different vibe.
In 2005 she earned the nomination for “Best Female Mixtape DJ” at the Justo’s Mixtape Awards, as well as the prestigious induction into both Justo Faison’s Justo’s Mixtape Allstars and the elite all-female Hip Hop movement the Murda Mamis. DJ Chela hosted and mixed the weekly radio program “New Girl Order Radio” at Duke University’s WXDU for three years, and was selected as one of the “Top 10 most influential College DJs” by Urban Network Magazine. She has been featured in The Source, Mixtape Magazine, Ozone Magazine, Down Magazine, Allhiphop.com, MTV’s Mixtape Mondays, and graced the front page of her hometown papers numerous times. Chela has worked alongside revolutionary MC Immortal Technique as his DJ, and has opened up for such artists as Remy Martin, Rah Digga, Talib Kweli, dead prez, Saigon, and KRS ONE, also sharing the turntables with legends Luv Bug Starski, DJ Showtime, DJ Envy, and many others.

Makin her way quickly to the scene, DJ Dimepiece has continued to make her mark as the south’s premiere female dj. Hailing from the sunny state of California, Dimepiece came to Nashville, Tennessee to pursue her college career at Fisk University. Always desiring to get into radio, Dimepiece began interning at the University’s radio station, 88.1 WFSK. By her sophomore year she hosted a r&b midday shift and soon landed a weeknight shift. To suppliment her show with the hottest music, Dimepiece would purchase mix cds and mixtapes from Nashville’s well known music store, Platinum Bound Records. The store owners, DJ Infamous, DJ Outlaw and Janiro would always encouraged Dimepiece to learn the craft and start making her own Mixtapes and cds. With that in mind, Dimepiece made it a priority to become a DJ. She began to practice on the University’s Turntables, hangin out at the city’s clubs to spin with djs and soon opening for one of Nashville’s known djs, Derek Jurand who Dimepiece also claims as her mentor. Meeting Derek Jurand at 92Q, sister station of Blazin 106.7 where she interned, Derek saw the grind and hunger in Dimepiece and took her under his wing. Introducing her to one of the biggest DJ organization, Tech.Nitions where Dimepiece later became drafted in September 2003. From then on, she has been makin noise in Nashville, gettin her 1st time to shine on commercial radio and dropping her 1st mixtape within that year.
DJ TOOMP Toomp’s first hit song with Raheem the Dream in 1985, started his hit making cycle. Shortly after his debut success, Toomp went on tour with Miami rapper MC Shy D and continued touring with Luke’s 2 Live Crew. Finally, he settled back to his roots in Atlanta in the early ‘90’s with a vision of a New South in mind.

DJ SMALLZ “The Hottest Muthaf**kin Mix DJ in the F**kin World!” is the description legendary Hip Hop icon Luther Uncle Luke Campbell, formerly of 2 Live Crew, uses to describe 20 year-old DJ Smallz. Encompassing a blend of supreme turntable skills and marketing finesse, its no surprise why DJ Smallz has quickly risen to become one of the nations premier DJs and what has led him to the type of success that has eluded many in his field.
DJ G-SPOT DJ G-Spot is one of the hardest working DJs in the Midwest. His motto is To be the best at what I do. What exactly does he do? G-Spot holds it down with mix shows on WBLK in Buffalo, NY and www.1.fm. G-Spot also gets busy at the hottest nightclubs in Cleveland, OH weekly and keeps his name in the streets with the gulliest mix CDs. Music has been a priority for G-Spot as long as he can remember. I have been DJing over half my life. I started in the basement when I was 12. His mother purchased his first set of Gemini turntables and spinning at his 8th Grade Graduation was his first official party. Then he moved on to proms, graduations, and the college party circuit and eventually became one of the most well known DJs in Chicago. While he was spinning at one infamous Windy City club, he met Sam Sylk, who was there hosting the club for WGCI. Sam and G immediately clicked and formed a fast friendship. Sam was actually relocating from Chicago to Cleveland, Ohio to work at WENZ. Sam was so impressed with Gs skills he offered him the chance to tag along and work at WENZ with him. G decided to take a chance and fulfill a life long dream However, when G first arrived in Cleveland it took a minute for him to become an on air personality. In the meantime he did everything and anything at the station. G-Spot worked as a Board Operator, in the promotions department, a weekend mixer, overnight onair personality. Finally in 2000 became a full-fledged on-air personality and mixer working 6 nights a week. G-Spot learned some of his most valuable lessons while at WENZ, I touched every aspect of the (radio) game. I learned you can never be one-sided and you have to always consider everyones musical tastes. The best way to stay in touch with the streets is to make sure to stay in the public by going out to the clubs. From his humble radio roots G-Spot has expanded to a variety of mix shows nationally. You can listen to his show Monday-Friday with the Magic Ride @ 5pm on WBLK Buffalo, New York and Monday-Friday on www.1.fm @ 4pm. One of his best and worst experiences was with rap musics current king,

Jay-Z. I opened for Jay on the Blueprint Tour and it gave me a chance to meet and work with Jay-Z. However, there were a million egos on the stage and everyone wanted to be the man. The soft-spoken G-Spot is more content to let his work ethic speak for him than to brag about himself. For years hes been recognized for his excellent skills as a mix master. He was nominated in 2001 & 2004 for the Mid West DJ of the Year at the Mix Show Power Summit. In 2003 and 2004, he won Mid-West DJ of the Year at Just Os Mixtape Awards and in 2003; he won the Cleveland Scene Music Award for DJ of the Year. DJ G-Spot was also the 2004 Official DJ for the Coors Distribution Convention in Honolulu. He has also been inducted in Whoo Kids Shadyville DJ Crew, the Core DJs, LXG and Pure Pain. G wants to start doing A&R for labels and promoting more records. Revealing a small portion of his master plan he says, I come across so much new talent as a DJ. I want to use my mix CDs to push new artists and send those to other labels. Hes currently working with rappers, Twizted Mind of 220 Records and Phoenix Jones. G-Spot knows they are destined to be the next big things in hip-hop. If they can sell in Cleveland they can sell anywhere. They are 2 of the best raw talents Ive ever heard. Besides all this G-Spot launched www.globalmixtapes.com in 2004 which features his mix CDs. He also has a house music label, SolFreek Records with DJ Sincere of Houston. I bust my butt to make it happen, Im always working. I dont sleep very often. In addition to his busy radio schedule he keeps himself accessible to the public as the resident urban DJ at The Spy Bar on Thursday and Friday Nights, Envy Nightclub on Saturday Nights and Touch Supper Club on Sundays. G Spot also produces Mix CDs (Reggae, Reggaeton Neo-Soul, Rap, and Old School) monthly and promotes records. The music industry better be ready because the hardest working DJ in the Midwest is about to take over the world. Contact info: Marlo Martin-Jackson (917) 592-6917

DJ KHALED Since the early 1990’s, the Miami scene has steadily grown into a personal playground for the entire entertainment industry. Events like How Can I Be Down, The Mix Power Summit, and the MTV Music Awards have attracted thousands of stars to the illusion of the Magic City nightlife. But once all the smoke clears, we get to finally focus on the true essence of Miami, which means attending the annual Fall Classic that is DJ Khaled’s Birthday Bash. The “mark your calendar event” started off as a simple get together for South Florida’s hottest DJ has since grown into a Dade County ritual, and that’s all due to one man, two turntables, and a squad of terror. Born Khaled Khaled (he’s so nice his mom named him twice), 30, in New Orleans to Arabic parents, Khaled was the second of three children. At age fourteen his love for music and influence from his parents led him down a path that would birth one of the greatest Deejays Miami has ever seen. Fans quickly took notice of DJ Khaled’s powerful style and energetic personality as he began throwing parties while a deejay on college radio. “God gave me a gift, so it’s only right that I lead the way with this new style.” Great energy and an undeniable voice have helped Khaled land radio gigs with Mixx 96 and 99 Jamz, but for Khaled that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Success happens when preparation meets opportunity, which is why Mixx 96 quickly became Miami’s premiere underground radio station with Khaled as the deejay. For two years, DJ Khaled bigged up, dropped bombs, and rewound enough tracks to be
crowned the official voice of South Florida. Never one to just sit comfortably on the throne, Khaled decided to “takeover” mainstream radio as the deejay for one of Miami’s most notable radio stations, 99 Jamz. Paired up with K-Foxx, DJ Khaled currently has the ..1 rated radio show in South Florida, adding another notch to his belt. Over a decade on the radio has inspired Khaled to develop his own sound of music as he prepares to release his debut album. “HipHop is everything and everywhere, so I have to be everything and everywhere.” Khaled’s album filled with new energy and different ideas is exactly what the game needs right now. The LP, yet to be titled, will feature artist such as Fat Joe, Terror Squad, Lil Wayne, Game, and Juelz Santana just to name a few. The album will also include “crazy” production from the infamous DJ Khaled, and if it’s anything like his birthday bash, it’s sure to be a “mark your calendar event.” Although many Khaled fans may think that this is his first crack at production, it is not. The versatile deejay has produced tracks for artist like Trick Daddy, Pitbull, Young Jeezy, and his Terror Squad brother Fat Joe. As part of the Terror Squad family, Khaled has built a foundation strong enough to hold weight with his debut album. An album packed with loyalty, respect, and Miami love that can be described in one word, Incredible! “I can see the headlines now, DJ Khaled’s new album reigns terror on the Hip-Hop world.”Renaissance Man.

DJ PRINCESS CUT When DJ Princess Cut (Juri Koshikawa) came to the United States, she didn’t know what to expect. She came just for a short visit to see first hand what the land of oppertunity had to offer. Here she studied the culture of America that Japan was thristy for. The southern rap scene was what truely embraced her and influenced her to stay. For a young impressionable teenager in foreign country, times could be very difficult. For DJ Princess Cut the decision to stay was an easy one. In a very short time she gravitated toward the urban music culture. She wanted to be a part of budding art of Hip Hop. When returning to her hometown of Wakayama, Japan, she began making attempts to push her way into the music scene. She tried her hand in everything related to the music culture including: breakdancing, graffitti art and even rapping. It was only when she got behind the turntables did she find her true calling. After mastering her newfound skill, she began ripping turntables all over the country of Japan. She began generating street credibility as a profound Hip Hop DJ. Princess Cut wanted more than anything to move to the United States and join the ranks of the hottest DJs in the South, such as DJ Screw, DJ Michael Watts and O.G. Ron C. FInally, she saved up enough money to follow her dreams to Texas. Princess Cut has become a certified dirty south chopped and screwed DJ. Her techniqes and quality far surpassed the current standard of screw music. She is now building a name for herself as Dallas’s number one female DJ by spinning in clubs and creating mixtapes that the fans can’t get enough of. She is the DJ that Japan has been waiting for. Texas is behind her. She is about to show Japan how Texas does it.

At the age of 7, Nu Jerzey Devil began rapping and knew he was destined to be in the music game. At the age of 18, he traded a friend a .45 calliber gun for a DJ equipment setup. After rapping over others’ beats, Nu Jerzey Devil bought himself a Dr. Rhythum beat machine & a Yamaha DJX keyboard and started making his own beats. About 2 years later after supplying the whole hood with beats, he received a 2way email from Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins of Darkchild Productions. Rodney, impressed by what he heard in Nu Jerzey Devil’s music, initiated a few meetings in Miami where they worked on a few projects. As soon as Nu Jerzey Devil got back, he became a part of the Darkchild team. From that point, they scored the movie “Honey” and laced the soundtrack. After the success of that movie score, the two moved out to L.A. to work on “My Baby’s Daddy”. In the midst of working, Rodney told Nu Jerzey Devil he was beyond impressed. Phat Rat another member of the Darkchild team was close with Game and was able to link the two in the studio to record. Their first recording was “The Black Wall Street Anthem” most notable on The Black Wallstreet’s Official Website’s intro page. After that initial recording, the two continued to record numerous songs as their chemistry between beats and rhymes grew. Game told Nu Jerzey Devil about future plans with his own Black Wall Street label; and asked Nu Jerzey Devil to be a part of his label. As Nu Jerzey Devil saw a brighter future with The Black Wall Street, he opted in on the offer and was flown back out to Compton, California where he now resides with the rest of the BWS family
GAMETIME ATHLETICS By: Shadeed Eleazer
The pride of Memphis, TN, Checliss Rice is building his foundation in his hometown. As a child from humble beginnings, to progress to overseeing an empire in-the-making is no small tasks. Known throughout the industry as Big C, this mogul-in-training is currently the CEO of Madhouse Media and Gametime Athletics, both based in Memphis, TN. “I’m doin’ this for my company, myself, and my city. We have a lot of talent in Memphis, We need a Russell and a Puffy to blow up the city. I have a lot of city officials supporting my moves to open some doors to make a fashion district so that our talented people don’t have to move to Atlanta. Everybody on my staff is from Memphis, Tennessee.” Growing up Big C always admired those involved big business deals and the minds behind the operation. The difference between Big C and his peers, is that C viewed Russell Simmons, Puffy, Dame Dash , J Prince, and Jay-Z as his equals and not as his mentors. “Those dudes are making big moves, but I know that none of them can outhustle me. I’m doin’ this from Memphis, if you put me and my hustle in New York, it would be large. I look at the big guys as my competition, I don’t compete with local guys.” The man behind the company that designed the official Southern Entertainment Awards Sneaker did not get his start with a half-million dollars in the bank or rich relatives. He started out noticing the shopping patterns of local teenagers at the shopping centers around the city. “I always noticed that people buy outfits based on their shoes. The shoes sell the outfits.” After designing a few pairs of custom kicks that built a buzz around the city, Big C landed a deal with one of the major shoe companies which is a big deal for any custom designer trying to get their foot in the door of the sneaker industry. In a cruel twist of fate, C’s hopes got caught up in the major restructuring of the company. The restructuring would take 18-24 months to complete, which lead to a decision that C had to make. Either stay loyal to the company and starve without the steady income or get out on his own and make his own way. It was during this time that C’s faith in his product was tested. “ I stayed on my grind and never let nobody tell me no. Always use no as your inspiration. I wanted to quit a couple times, but the people around me made a big difference. When choosing the people around you, make sure that they have your heart in their best interests. If they have money in their best interests, then they won’t be around when the money is short.” Big C also is the CEO of Madhouse Media. Madhouse utilized the internet to pioneer a new way for fans to communicate with their favorite artists. The first on-demand voice messaging system ever created. VONTOO allows the industry’s top recording artist to directly interact with their fans through sending audio messages direct to their mobile phones. After desigining custom outfits for industry heavyweights such as Master P, Chamillionaire, Mario, and David Banner, the sky was the limit for Gametime. The NBA soon came knocking at the office doors as Gametime designed shoe collections for the Milwaukee Bucks, Memphis Grizzlies, and Minnesota T-Wolves. Big C’s hustle bought him from Memphis to the small screen as he is set to appear on BET’s Access Granted. Gametime is set to release the A Dubs shoe line for All Access DVD, a signature line of custom designs for DJ’s, Cashville shoes, H-town shoes and much, much more in the works. As a testimonial to his business mind that fuels his talent, Big C separates himself from those who claim false business titles to bring themselves to a higher status. “People holler the word “CEO” when in reality they’re just a dude with a company. Show me your board of directors. I’m the Chairman, my company is going public on the NY Stock Exchange in 24-36 months. In order to do that, you have to set up the foundation with accountants and lawyers. I want people to feel proud. People say Big C done did it, and because they know me it makes it that much better.” With the entire city behind him, Big C has huge plans in store for 2007. “2006 was baking the cake. I have a reality show that I’m developing. I got a line of watches Cloxx, The Hustler’s Timepiece, because every hustler gotta be on time. Everybody is talkin’ bout buying bricks, well I’m gonna get the real bricks. I’m buying bricks and mortar and building my offices and helping my mother retire.” Any businessman with an idea knows that it takes a team to execute that vision. Big C would like to thank the following people. I want to take God. I want to thank my entire staff Link, Jamian, Edward, Tracy, my publicist Ariel Ellis, my attorney, my accountant, and my mentor Bob.

ANTHONY DAVID by; Marquita Gonzalez
Internationally known and locally undisputed, Anthony David’s bluesy tone is the calm before the storm. He began by writing ‘Part of My Life’ for his good friend India Arie’s debut album Acoustic Soul. She showed her gratitude by duetting with him on ‘Words’, a song they co-wrote for his promising new album, The Red Clay Chronicles. Anthony performed exclusively in the UK and throughout Europe for the past two years. Before his international success Savannah, Georgia was Anthony’s home but his musical journey started in Atlanta where a friendship bloomed into a life partnership when he meet India Arie. That moment woved the internal thread to his success. Many critics compare David to a modern-day Bill Withers, who is acclaimed blues singer because of his blues voice and contemporary social issues he tackles in his songs. Anthony’s music is pleasurable, thought-provking and brilliantly crafted. His neo-soul like feel gives the South new familiar kind of flavor.
In Houston every night Monday-Friday 10pm2am or Saturdays 10am-2pm on 97.9 The Box Or on HOT TV in Houston every Friday night at midnight on TV 51 (Channel 2)
