A
politically correct term for snowblading is actually, “ski boarding.” I know because in the late 90’s, I bunked with a bunch of friends from Squaw who were sponsored ski boarders at the US Freeskiing Open in Vail. Then, the twin tip along side its rival, the ski board, was most commonly found in the back of any ski catalog. The section was called, “Do people really want these things?” The fact was, manufactures told us twin tips were a joke, race skis rocked and unless the skiers at the time risked it all to prove a point, it could have been just as easily forgotten as we have the Snowblade. 4FRNT was born during this era. The year was 2002, when thoughts of skiing backwards were “unconventional” and team riders were glorified ski models. We wanted respect. We demanded some authenticity and we deserved unsolicited input to the skis we envisioned to make our contribution to ski history possible.
Enter the rider owned revolution. We assembled as a group of friends, competitive peers and powder day lift line buddies. We turned our sponsors into our factories. We embarked down a path to create skis that enabled our passion for skiing to influence others. We’re proud to have suffered and survived the pains of jolting this old man’s industry back into a kid’s sport again. Ten years in the making. Thanks for your support. -Matt Sterbenz

FUTURE SERIES
for 4FRNT,
...it was also the culmination of six years of passion, drive and design. From day one 4FRNT’s mission has been to make skis designed by our riders for our riders. Our version of a skiers co-op. The first pair of skis we pressed in a Tahoe garage had it, and the countless rounds of prototypes we ordered from our manufacturers in the years that followed had it. But when the press arrived at our headquarters in Salt Lake, we bolted it to the ground. We knew that the future of our company, and the future of the sport, was going to come out of the layers of wood and fiberglass and metal that came out of that press. We call it the White Room. Every ski in our line-up has come from the technology we have developed through prototyping and testing in the White Room. Having an in-house prototyping facility of this caliber at the base of the Wasatch Mountains allows us unlimited potential to create new shapes and designs that can be instantly tested by our athletes in real world conditions. Whether it’s skiing big lines in Little Cottonwood or hitting urban rails at the Rail Garden, our riders put these skis through their paces and generate feedback we could never get from just flex testing a ski with a robot.
When we walked into the warehouse in Vancouver, BC to claim a ski press from an out of business snowboarding company, it wasn’t just the start of a whole new chapter Photo: Phil Herbert Location: The White Room
As we have grown the White Room, it has also become the home to the Renegade. A ski that we produce in-house with a team of ski techs, engineers and woodworkers who spend all summer at our headquarters shoulder-to-shoulder with Cody Barnhill and Eric Hjorleifson. Turning the White Room into a production environment has allowed us to create a level of efficiency and quality that is unmatched and it trickles down into our new ski designs. The HOJI and the CODY are direct descendants of those long, hot summers spent with the Renegade.

Signature Series:
The Signature Series is the embodiment of our philosophy of “Rider Driven” design, from the first pair of the MSP’s, to the brand-new HOJI and CODY models. We have always been about making the skis we want to ski ourselves. We don’t need focus g roups or marketing teams to tell us what skis to make. We have our Team. We start with an idea, or a sketch on a napkin, from our riders about what ski they would make if they could have the ski they’ve always dreamed of. From that initial idea, the riders work with Cody and the rest of the White Room crew to draft up technical designs and the first round of prototypes. What happens over the next few weeks and months, and countless hours of trial and error, is that we pull a ski off our press that is exactly what our riders wanted, with no compromises made on shape, f lex or materials. The skis that ultimately end up in your local shop are these same skis. Over the course of the last decade, our Signature Series skis have not only transformed the way our riders ski, or how we look at the mountain, they have fundamentally changed the sport itself. The Signature Series models are the skis of choice for anyone demanding the very best in technology and construction, or for someone looking to take their riding to the next level. Whether you’re looking to step into big mountain lines in AK, slash a tree line on the ice coast, or try your hand at ski mountaineering in Chamonix, the Signature Series should be your first stop. The beauty of chemistry is you take a bunch of simple elements, and depending on the ratios and the process, you can create amazing things. That’s what we do at 4FRNT. Simple, quality components, and proven designs that are combined in ways to make revolutionary skis.
4FRNT TECHNOLOGY
Reflect Technology was dreamed up by the mind of Eric Hjorleifson as a way to make rocker and side-cut work together. In the past, full rocker profiles would have a negative impact on the ability of the ski to edge consistently, and would cause the tips to hook and the tails to wash out while the ski was on edge. With Reflect Tech, the rocker radius and the side-cut radius are matched, to allow the ski to edge smoothly, and create predictable carving in all conditions. It virtually eliminates tip hook, as the ski will engage smoothly along the length of the ski, while still giving you the float and pivotability of a fully rockered ski. You can find Reflect Tech in the Renegade and HOJI.
Our women’s skis have shapes similar to our men’s line, but they are set apart with our women’s specific Contour Core construction. While men drive the ski from their chest, women tend to ski from their hips, which generates forces down through their heels. With our women’s cores, we’ve moved the weight of the core rearwards (5cm) to accommodate this more centered skiing style. This lets women drive the true center of the core weight instead of constantly fighting from behind, while still being centered over the side cut. You can find Countour Core in the Aretha, Madonna and Blondie.

CAMBER
When you’re looking for a one-ski-quiver, look no further than our all-mountain skis.
The neutral sidecut length at the tip and tails' widest dimension.
An upturned radius in the tips and tails lets the ski float through powder and off-trail conditions.
Take the park into the backcountry with these skis designed for maximum stompage.
The two contact points of the ski are at the tips and tails.
The camber of the ski is flattened in the tips allowing for the tips to splay outwards.
These skis take you away to that special place. POW.
The tail of the ski is also upturned to allow for switch skiing and landings.
A traditional ski shape that gives the ski maximum performance in groomed conditions.
Spin, flip and slide your way to glory with our skis designed for the park and pipe.
These skis have the same dimensions in the tip and the tail, along with a near centered mounting point.
A full radius along the length of the ski gives the ski maximum float, and nimble turning.
These skis will get you down the steepest, tightest and most exposed lines out there.
A directional shape gives the ski that delivers a more consistent feel.
When the deep gets deeper, you want a ski that with the float you need.
DIMENSIONS
GEOMETRY
Determines the length of the ski in centimeters along its base from end to end.
This measures the amount of sidecut the ski has in radial meters.
This measures the width of the tip of the ski at its widest point
The Effective Edge is the length of running surface along the base.
This measures the width at midsole of the skis' narrowest point. This measures the width of the tail at its widest point. Weight shows how heavy a single ski weighs in kilometers and pounds.
CONSTRUCTION The wood core is inserted into a fiberglass sleeve for a lightweight, durable construction. Layers of wood and fiberglass are sandwiched together to create the highest performance ski. Semi-cap partially wraps the topsheet around the sidewall for additional durability. Inherited construction technique from central Norway, this sidewall-less design provdides superb energy transmission to the edge.

hen you’re standing on top of a big mountain, or when you’re looking at a perfect powder field, you don’t want a ski that’s anything less than the best. Designed by Eric Hjorleifson and Cody Barnhill in the White Room, the Renegade has revolutionized the powder ski category, while simultaneously making us re-think the way we look at camber and sidecut. The reverse camber design and stiffer flex, paired with our Reflect Technology side cut, will effortlessly create any turn shape in any condition without tip and tail hook, while still giving you the stability you need to charge big mountain lines, or make high-speed carves through the crud.
“The name says it all, this ski was born to go against the accepted business & manufacturing models established within the ski industry. The design also runs against the grain of popular powder ski designs that commonly cater toward weaker intermediate skiers with poor technique: soft, sloppy with exaggerated side cut. The Renegade + Design is simple really: utilize a ski building heritage back when skiers didn’t soley rely on using plastics; built by skiers who create each pair with pride as if every pair were their own.” – Eric Hjorleifson

he HOJI is a direct result of the years of R&D put in by Eric Hjorleifson in creating the EHP and the Renegade. We took the same Reflect Technology of the Renegade, and transferred it to a slightly narrower platform. This makes the HOJI a perfect tool for touring in the backcountry for people seeking a functional climbing tool for the way up, without having to sacrifice anything on the way down. The HOJI is also a perfect resort ski for the big mountain resorts you find out West, or for crushing tree lines out east. Either way, the HOJI is great option for touring and POW days.
“Based off of the performance qualities developed, tested and proven by the Renegade, the HOJI incorporates Reflect Tech, matching the rocker profile with the sidecut radius. This gives the HOJI an unparalleled powder carving sensation that I have yet to experience on any other ski (except for the Renegade of course). With a 112 mm waist it is designed to also be a versatile ski in firmer snow conditions for ski touring. I am extremely excited about the HOJI and I will have them on my feet for a good portion of the season.” – Eric Hjorleifson

he CRJ is a ski that is designed to be a do-everything soft snow ski. It’s a fun, playful and poppy ski that turns the whole mountain into your theme park. From trees and soft bumps, to miles of untracked, you’ll never find a place that the CRJs can’t shred. The CRJ has been ahead of it’s time since we launched it three years ago, and the shapes and ideas from the CRJ have changed the industry’s take on all-mountain skis. “The CRJ is a ski that the late CR Johnson painted on a truly blank canvas. The original images CR sketched in the fall of 2007 were hilarious, and up until we heard him talk about the design he had drawn did we think it could work nor be as popular as it has been. A true piece of CR’s legacy - the
CRJ is a ski that provides the modern demands a mountain climate skier should expect out of an all around ski. The contact point between camber under foot and rocker in the tip and tail has a crucial point of contact with the snow that also mirrors the blend between traditional antd reverse sidecut to offer the skier the ultimate control as to when a ski should grip and when a ski should smear its turn. The controlling factor of these two techniques is made possible by a contact point located at nearly half the length where a traditional skis’ contact point should be, providing the skier a very sensitive feel of control and playfulness. The generous width makes this ski equally powerful in deep snow conditions.” – Matt Sterbenz

ith Wiley Miller’s signature ski, we set out to create a backcountry park ski. When we finished the design of the YLE, we had created a ski that was so much more than that. Designed to be symmetrical, and mounted close to center, the YLE gives you the low-swing weight, sidecut and switch skiing performance of a park ski. The 120 mm waist paired with rocker in the tip and tail gives you all the performance you need for skiing every condition off the beaten path. The skis provide a solid platform for stomping landings no matter if it’s snowed two feet overnight, or you’re a week out from your last storm. The YLE stays true to Wiley’s skiing roots of skiing the Montana backcountry.
Photo: Freedle Coty Location: Kootenay Range, British Columbia
“The YLE excels on everything from park, crud, and ice, to pow, bc jumps and big lines. The only decision I had to make was what size to be on. I ride the 177 in park, smaller bc jumps, features, resort crusing, etc, and the 187 on bigger lines, and basically faster, bigger skiing in general. I designed the YLE to be ‘non-directional,’ meaning you can ski it switch, and having more tail increases the surface area behind the skier when landing airs. Also if one chooses to take a spin off a cat track, bump or jump the ski offers a low swing weight. Although you may be skiing a 187 the swing weight is more balanced than if you where to be skiing a 187 mounted 7 cm’s back from true center.” – Wiley Miller

e wanted to design an all-mountain ski to be as at home on the groomers as on the tight, high-consequence lines you’ll find on large peaks. We tapped Cody Barnhill, our Global team rider and R&D guru, to design his ski for just this purpose. “The CODY is a ski that I designed with the idea that the less-than-epic days can be more fun if you have the right tool. With a semi-tight turn radius and long running surface, I wanted a ski that would be stable at high speeds yet capable of quick turns when things get tight. This design is perfect for the days when it hasn’t snowed
in a while and you just want to take some laps on the hill. At roughly 100 under foot, this ski can still manage a lot more than just resort skiing. The CODY has a relatively short rocker radius in both the tip and tail to provide a catch free feeling. It floats smoothly off trail and combined with a tiny taper tip and tail, this ski gives just enough ease in transition from edge to base. The art for the CODY was done by my brother, Dylan, making this ski the realization of a collaborative project that I have had in mind for a long time.” – Cody Barnhill

YLE Coyote Future Series Artist: Max Neutra
Finally! Symmetrical powder skis for the young rippers. The YLE Coyote is based off of the YLE, Wiley Miller's signature ski. Whether it’s venturing out on their own or just trying to keep up with dad, this ski bridges the gap for a lot of young skiers dialing in their backcountry skills.

FUTURE SERIES
W
e want to make junior skis that are a springboard to learning and progression. That means we take adult ski technology and shapes and tweak them to make them light, playful and fun for young skiers. We have switched over to foam cores to allow for softer flex and cap construction to make them light and durable. What we haven’t done is skimp on any of the cutting-edge shapes from our adult lines. This allows the shredder to have a ski that’s forgiving enough to learn on, but will still support a higher level of skiing across a wide range of terrain.
