Bed Levelling

1. Under the glass plate, there are four screws in the four corners that need to be adjusted to level the bed.

2. Rotate these four screws to make adjustments. It is a trial and error procedure.

3. Begin to set up the bed levelling procedure on the control unit. Click the black button to open the options panel.

4. Click “Prepare”.

6. Slip in a piece of paper between the bed and the nozzle. If there is just a small amount of friction between the bed and the paper, the bed has been levelled, else re-adjust the screws from the four corners till it is achieved.

5. Click “Auto Home”. The nozzle will automatically move to the front left corner close to the bed.

Page 13

11

Feeding the Filament

1. Cut the end of the filament diagonally. This will make it easier to insert into the printer.

2. Insert the filament

3. Insert through the hole of the extruder. The filament may bend during this process. Push the filament back into position else it may crack.

4. Push the clip of the spring together and continue feeding the filament.

6. Continue feeding till you see it come out in the nozzle. Push all the way through the PFTE tubing so it can melt when heated.

5. Feed further into the extruder.

Page 14

12

Filament Extrusion After levelling the bed, set the printer for a test print. Some pre-installed g-codes and .stl files are already provided on the SD card. Connect to your device and load a model onto the software. You can also use your own models.

The nozzle is too far away from the bed, the filament cannot adhere to the platform.

The filament is extruded evenly, sticking to the platform.

The nozzle is too close to the bed, the filament is not extruded enough, scraping the platform. If the print result does not stick to the bed or scrapes the bed, level the bed again and restart the printing procedure.

Cleaning and Maintenance To ensure a long, stable printing life for the Creality CR-10S, it must be cleaned and maintained before and after printing. Steps to be done every time before you print1.

2. 3. 4.

Clean/Maintain the print platform using specialized solutions like 90% isopropyl alcohol while wearing gloves . Replace the tape if used. (Warning- The Print Nozzle and Bed can be very hot, around 200 degrees Celsius!) Preheat the nozzle and extrude a small amount of filament. While the nozzle is still hot, use a steel brush on it to clean any excess filament. Preheat the print bed and level it.

After every 1500 hours of printing1. 2. 3. 4. 5.

Disassemble the extruder and brush excess material from the filament wheel teeth. Perform several cold filament pulls on the nozzle. Check all the belts for tightness and fraying.(replace or tighten as needed) Check that all screws throughout the printer are tight. Oil all the rods with good Synthetic Oil With PTFE (High Viscosity).

Cold Pulls Cold pulls are great for removing debris from the inside of your nozzle and removing clogs. Follow these easy steps to perform a cold pull1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6.

Heat your nozzle up to 200 Celsius. Insert the filament until you see it flow from the nozzle. Turn the heat off or down to 100 Celsius. Once the heat reaches 100 Celsius grab the filament give it a firm pull. The filament should pull free and be in the shape of the interior of the nozzle. Do this at least three times to ensure the nozzle is clean.

Page 21

Cleaning and Maintenance Motor Maintenance 1. 2. 3. 4.

After every 1500-2000 hours of printing, use high viscosity oil to grease the motor. Run the motor from top to bottom. Lubricate the bearing to avoid wear and tear. If dust accumulates, pass compressed air into the motor.

Nozzle blockage1. 2. 3.

Unscrew the body and remove any debris that is visible using a pair of tweezers. Heat up the nozzle to allow the blocked filament to melt. Plunge plastic through the nozzle and perform a cold pull.

Wiring issues- become loose, fuse or internally melt 1. 2. 3.

Cut open the wiring coating and replace the damaged wire. Cover the new wire with an insulating coating. Ensure the wiring does not touch the bed or nozzle.

Wobbly Plate1. Adjust the runners that are located under the bed plate. 2. Put an alan key into the bottom of the runners and a spanner in the top. 3. Simultaneously adjust both in a direction reverse of one another.

Frequently Asked Questions Q. How to replace the filament?

Q. What thickness of filament can be used?

A. Cut the old filament near the extruder and slowly feed the new filament. Preheat the nozzle, withdraw the old filament quickly and continue feeding the new filament.

A. The thickness of the filament used should not be over 1.75 mm as it cannot enter the extruder.

Q. Is there anything I will need other than the printer kit to start 3D printing?

Q. The quality of the prints has suddenly decreased. What do I do?

A.

A. If the print quality has decreased, the caliberation and bed levelling of the printer has gone wrong. It can also be due to a blocked nozzle, loose belts or faulty material (if the print has bubbles).

• • • •

Ideally, no. The kit is self sufficient; however, certain things could be helpfula pair of tweezers a paper knife a metal toothbrush some extra filament

Q. Why is the filament not passing through the extruder?

Q. What do I do if the printed raft is not sticking to the bed?

A. The filament could have snapped in the PTFE tubing, or the nozzle is not heated enough to allow the filament to melt through. It could also be because the gear spring have become loose.

A. Use masking tape, or Pritt stick on the bed and print over that. It could also be because of the filament- some coloured filaments require bed temperature 70ᵒC and nozzle temperature 205ᵒC.

Page 23

Frequently Asked Questions Q. How log will my printer last?

Q. Will parts need to be replaced?

A. It depends on how well it is maintained- it can last a few years year or over 10 years. However, it is safe to say to say that these printers will be technologically obsolete in perhaps 4-5 years and Creality will keep creating more advanced models.

A. The moving parts of the printer will be subject to wear and tear depending on how often the printer is used. Belts, motors, heaters, board, hot end, extruder and gears will eventually need to be removed and replaced but this is an inexpensive process.

However, to ensure that the printers as long as it should, it is essential to follow the maintenance procedures and keep the printer running from time to time.

The frame is sturdy and will last a lifetime, but other parts will need to be updated. A number of spare parts have already been provided in the kit.

Q. Where can I find samples to print?

Q. If I found a sample online, how do I print it on my printer?

A.

A. The files you find online are most often in the STL format. Your printer works by following instructions in a G-code file. You need to use a slicer program to convert the STL into G-code for your printer to use. In other words STL is the blueprint and the G-code is the instructions.

• • • • •

The microSD card provided in the kit has 4 testing samples which can be used. There are several other online sources that can be used likehttp://www.thingiverse.com/ https://www.stlfinder.com/ https://www.shapeways.com/ https://www.myminifactory.co m/ https://www.youmagine.com/ http://www.cookiecaster.com/ http://www.yeggi.com/

Open the STL file in the Creality Software (slicer) and convert it to G-code. Then send to the printer using the MicroSD card provided. Page 24
