One can speak poetry by arranging colors well. - Vincent van Gogh

Letter from the editor This season we’re inspired by the way a person’s surroundings influences their mood and state of mind. A simple change in environment has a huge impact on the way we think and behave. A major factor in the atmosphere in which we submerge ourselves is color. Depending on hues, shades and tints, they can invoke certain emotions in people without recognizing any change. In these following color collections, we experiment with many different combinations bringing forth a certain feeling depending on the scheme. Starting with a bold and adventurous mixture of hues, we’re thrown into a warm, spontaneous road trip through the desert. After the thrill of an escape, we drift into a tranquil apartment on a Sunday morning, with warm neutrals exuding a sense of serenity. Then being heaved into dark, stormy shades, emanating the perception of a frightening yet mysterious night only the gods have control over. But as the clouds drift away, the sun rises over a meadow of tiny flowers where fawns and lambs graze the pasture under the pink hues of dawn. Each of the collections tells a story and stays contingent with the tale, and the hues will evoke emotion within the viewer.

y a w a t eG These hues represent the boldness of not having a plan. They reflect the spontaneity of driving alongside the desert with the sun’s rays warming everything they touch, looking out the window to see the sand and cacti blended together from the fast movement of the getaway. There is boldness in doing something simple such as stopping when something vibrant catches the eye like a giant open field of dandelions or the mesmerizing view of layered roasted clay forming a canyon. The hues reflect escaping into a daydream while driving the open road and getting lost in the radio playing Lynyrd Skynyrd and The Rolling Stones. .

The colors replicate the easy softness of a bright Sunday morning. These neutrals will always complement each other giving a calm, serene ambiance. This trend is inspired by the lackadaisical movements of rolling out of a feathery bed to make a cup of tea while the sun begins to light an apartment with silky warm rays. Some tints come from the serendipitous movements one might experience on a lethargic morning; finishing the last chapter of a book that has tanned pages from laying on the windowsill for too long, turning on the record player to fill the room with Edith Piaf’s soothing blush melody, or walking to the farmers market to purchase some fresh flowers wrapped in brown paper and tied off with a thin white string. It’s these small moments in the early dawn when this collection of hues awakens.

Theoi colors illustrate a mountain surrounded by darkness, the only temporary light being that of a swift lightning bolt hurtled to the ground, scorching a lonely tree into ash. The ocean below is restless, aggressively mingling the sand below into its rough waters, turning the waves a gloomy navy. Sitting on top of the overcast mauve mountain is a grand home hanging on the edge near one of the peaks. Inside a couple is dressed in finely adorned garments sitting at a stretched mahogany table surrounded by cold candlelight. They sit and chat while swirling their dark red wines in crystal goblets, the only interruptions being the thunder cracking through their voices. The candlelight’s reach slowly recedes as the wick nears the pool of wax on the table and shadows dance around them as they lounge in the night covered room, only illuminating into full view as the lightening floods the hall ablaze.

w o d a e M e z e e r B As the crickets stretch their legs and go quiet into slumber, the soft sun rises and dusts off the darkness of the meadow below. Hues begin to appear in the delicate light. The billowing grass sways as if it is under the sea, transforming into a turquoise wave. A fawn wanders out of the shelter it took from the past night’s rain and into the field now sparkling with dew. As the sun breaks the horizon the dusty colors burst into vibrant hues altering the sky into a delightful array of pinks. On the sun’s cue, birds hidden away in the bordering trees begin to sing their morning lullaby and soar over the prairie, striping the sky with quick, disappearing feathery blues.
