Formstorming 100 Iterations

Introduction During this project I wanted to challenge myself while designing something meaningful. I chose to create 100 iterations of blood because blood is something I see on a daily basis while living with type 1 diabetes. To me, blood is both the reality of living with a chronic illness, and the means which pushes me to preform to the best of my ability. When I started this project, I knew it would be easy to create dark gorey iterations, because blood is usually depicted this way. However, I wanted to show a different side of blood. I hoped to produce iterations showing and celebrating the ordinary role blood plays in life. The same role I witness everyday.
The title I chose for this project comes from the Amazon Original television series Mozart in the Jungle. In this series, the conductor is constantly telling his orchestra to “play with the blood”. He tells them in hopes they will be inspired to play their instruments with passion and dedication. This idea fit my project perfectly, because I was “playing with blood”. To make this phrase more applicable to design, I changed it to “paint with the blood”. Furthermore, the phrase fits my personal work ethic and how I tackle design problems. When I design, I work with all of my energy, excitement, and passionate determination. I let whatever doubts, hardships, and life concerns fall away, and I paint with the blood.
